This place is awesome! The fries are very good and you can tell all the food is great quality. We got the fried chicken this time and wow! Best fried chicken ever. Definitely need to hit this up while you're over here.

Ok, so this is 2 different review ratings. Take into consideration we arrived just after a huge rush (possibly bus) of people. We sat at the end of the bar in front of the glass wash station. Our waitress was pleasant despite. She checked in with us a few times during our meal. The prices are comperable to other similar establishments but I feel the portions here make it one step above. The wings are the huge sized wings if you like those. The curly fries (for the 2nd time) were overcooked and crunchy. They have 1919 root beer on it's own tap! It was fun to just look around at the decor and play "I Spy". The restrooms were pleasant. Now, the part I hope the owner reads. There was a busboy, whom I feel may be family, "working" there. I surmised this because if I were one of those waitresses, I'd have had some WORDS long ago. I can honestly say this young man is probably costing you way more money than having him there, unless your sole reason is to keep him out of trouble...even so. He was very obviously working harder at not working than actually doing so. I feel like this is a very common example of our youth as a whole right now. He literally, for our ENTIRE stay (which took double the time as any usual meal does due to the kitchen being so slow) basically shuffled in front of us getting in the way of every waitress trying to do their job. He opened the coolers repeatedly turning labels, looking like he was checking stock, etc. I'm certain the bottles ended up being 4 degrees warmer, especially when he left the doors cracked open. Waitresses were carrying LOADS of dishes to the back and only occasionally, when he noticed, would he go back to the kitchen only to emerge right back in front of us. He seemed to like washing glasses though. Just one or two he'd slowly concentrate on them spending as much time as possible. Nothing like someone's face constantly inches from your food. Another time after coming from the back, he switched the big screen from football to car racing, which was also on the smaller TV. People were mildly watching the game. They had to ask a waitress to switch it back. When we were finished with our meals, we neatly stacked the tray/basket/silverware with the napkins on top, clearly indicating they were ready to be taken, at the edge of the bar, pretty much right under his nose as he washed glasses. Nope, the lightbulb didn't go on. A waitress came and took mine away. My Mom finished hers later and did the same. Still he didn't get a clue. I could see the frustration on the other's faces. I was exhausted just watching him do absolutely nothing. PLEASE teach this young man manners, consideration, work ethic, and teamwork. If he plans to go into management of any kind, nevermind, carry on. At the very least, find someplace else for him to be and alleviate the frustration for those employees who ARE trying to do their jobs. On the flip side, if I were to give the benefit of the doubt, perhaps he was doing his intended job of monitoring other employees to ensure everything is on the up and up and to report back. In any case, this seems to be going more into a rant than a review of the establishment. Love Gronk's in general and look forward for an opportunity to stop in when I'm in town. Don't miss out!

Food was great as well as the service. Just got some dogs & 1/2 of onion rings to tied us over until dinner. Everything looked clean as well as the bathrooms. Nice little hole in the wall if I wasn't driving I would've gotten a drink

This is my favorite place in town and a must go for me when I am visiting. I always get the bacon cheesy cheese burger, so good, and there are so many other options as well. Definitely something for everyone. Service can be hit and miss but it is usually good unless it is busy. This is your typical casual sports bar and grill with a dining area and a bar area.

I came here on a work trip. My friend talked this place up and mentioned their burger challenges. We avoided the challenges and were treated to some great food and great service. The inside had a sports museum/bar feel with Gronk theme logos and shirts for sale. We ordered chicken strips for starters. Despite being on the slimmer side, the strips were lightly breaded and very good. For my meal, I got the upside-down cheeseburger with amazing tater tots, which is exactly how it sounds. The burger was well done and perfect. My friend ordered a Mac & cheese hot dog and fries. He devoured it of course. I'll keep this place in mind if I ever return to the area. Walked outside to see a double rainbow. The perfect way to end the trip.

Best burgers around. I got the upside down bacon cheeseburger, California style. We ate at a high top in the bar area. There are TVS with sports on and no volume to compete with. Service was fast and friendly. Nice clean bar & grill that is family friendly.

Prime rib sandwich was half fat, waitress sad "you never know....." Really the cooks eyes were closed? Luckily my guys was great, he gave me some of his or half my sandwich wb wo meat!!!

I GUARANTEE you, that all these four and five star reviews are coming from locals that live here in Superior. If you don't live here, God help you. Read on my little festerlings.... I just left this place. And I am so close to dropping this down to one star. DISCLAIMER: if you're not a local and don't mind being ignored and sitting for unnecessary stretches of time without being acknowledged, or checked on, even at the bar, then this might be the place for you. Otherwise go elsewhere. 90 minutes for two cocktails and appetizers. I will never, ever come back here. My server/bartender, a brunette gal with a bruise on her cheek and swollen jowel was amongst the most lackluster inattentive staff people I've ever encountered in a restaurant/bar. Probably because I'm not local. I had 19 people around me, all of them knew one another on first name basis. I guess in order for me to actually be acknowledged I need to live here. Although I've been sitting there for well over an hour, with an empty Glass, she's sure quick to jump at asking the locals that come in at various times what they would like to drink. Lime Wheels. And not even full-lime wheels, I didn't think Lime Wheels could get any worse, but these were half Lime Wheels. I ordered my trademark vodka and soda with extra lime. What do I get? Lime juice and pulp stuck in my fingernails. I asked her if she had lime wedges that I could actually squeeze into my drink instead of getting lime everywhere except inside my drink. I even asked for napkins and told her that I will need them because the lime is going to go everywhere except inside of my glass, and what does she do? She laughs. But do you think she offered to cut me lime WEDGES? No it was "well I can dump some roses lime juice in there for you if you want". Are you effing serious? Don't take the time to do your job correctly because you might miss pouring a Busch Light for one of your local dock workers that won't spend more than $10, than to take 30 extra seconds and give me lime I can actually use. Unacceptable. The other bar back girl was really nice, but all in all the entire staff is strange. Probably because it's so close to Canada. I'm fuming right now, my server just gives ZERO f****. The place is actually really clean and has nice decorum. I didn't use the bathroom because I was afraid if I stood up for more than 10 seconds, my area would have been cleared. Looking back in retrospect, maybe that would have got me my check and out of there in a timely manner. I ordered fried pickles and cheese curds. The pickles were super super good. Actually some of the best pickles I've had. The cheese curds, well, whatever. They're cheese curds. As I sat there with an empty glass for about the last 30 minutes, with my credit card on the bar wanting to cash out, and my ever so attentive bartender passed me at least a dozen times, I had to literally put my credit card in her face in order to get out of there. Because the coveted vocals were coming in and ordering their Busch Light. This place could be so much more, but it's evident that the owners only focus on the locale and the local clientele. I just feel highly insulted. I hope people reading this review take it as a stroke of Truth and not a rant, and plan accordingly. I can't say that you'll have a different experience if you sit at a table with an actual server, but if you're at the bar, and you're not FROM here, then you're NOBODY. Too bad for my bartender, because I'm that guy that typically tips 50%. She only got about 7% today, which was very generous considering what I went through.

I always stop at Gronk's when I'm in NW Wisconsin. I straddled up to the bar on Thursday night with my daughter (she's 30) and we ordered all app's - 1lb. of Chicken Wings, Cheese Curds, & Fried Pickles. The Wisconsin Holy Trinity if you will! Protein, dairy, and a veggie. My daughter also added the soup of the day. Almost everything was outstanding! Best cheese curds I've had period. Wings were huge and fried pickles to die for! The only thing was tho, my daughter reported that the soup wasn't that good. Great drink prices if you are from California, but don't order the soup!

The men's restroom gave my husband a good laugh!

Continuing our two month motorhome trip, we find ourselves in Superior, WI for five days. When I…read morefirst saw mention of Anchor Bar, I wondered if it was a location of the Anchor Bar and Grill in Buffalo, NY (IYKYK). It is not associated in any way. I persuaded my wife to go for an early dinner. I told her my perception was a "dive bar". She wasn't too pleased and I told her maybe an "eclectic bar" would be a better description. Yes...an eclectic bar. Cash only with an ATM at the ready with only a $2.50 service fee (my bank refunds all ATM service fees). We got the last two seats at the bar. There were two people working the bar and they were extremely welcoming, friendly, and attentive. We are from Texas and as soon as I open my mouth, you can see the "look" on their face. We both were very glad we went. My wife ordered the California burger and I ordered the mushroom and swiss cheese with the addition of sauteed onions and bacon. My burger was absolutely delicious. My wife really enjoyed hers, but mentioned she wished she had ordered it medium. The fries were obviously hand-cut and I assume on the premises...hot and delicious. Don't worry about plenty of ketchup. The bar had several, very large bottles of Heinz ketchup within easy reach. Plenty of rolls of paper towels. We ordered two Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy drafts; nice and cold. They use a very unique pint glass with a hole and magnet in the bottom. The glass is placed on the machine and it is enters through the bottom. Never have seen this before. Ambiance? Very eclectic with a nautical theme. I loved this place! Again, both servers at the bar were very attentive. Never walked by without asking is everything OK, or if there was anything we needed. This is a must when in Superior or Duluth. Would return again and I highly recommend.

Everything looked super cute but there were coloring and crayon scribbles on everything. It was on the books, the tables the displays etc. I asked a local friend and they said this is normal. When the waitress went to take our drink orders she was ok slightly rude. We looked at our friend and he said they aren't known for their service and can be a little rude. I asked if it's like Dicks Last Resort and he laughed and said no. I think she was okay after that and was like a standard waitress at more restaurants after . I would just say dont expect bending over backwards to make the customer number 1 service . I'm okay with that. They have some very interesting and yummy selections for burgers . I got excited for a blue cheese Burger. I will say that my Pattie was very well done and the bun was on point. The blue cheese dressing top.... Not what I want for a blue cheese burger . I was expecting the blue cheese crumble. The fries... bomb! Definitely get fries. Do I want to go back? Maybe if can sit outside on a nice day. Sort of got the ick sitting inside but it's because I'm not a dive bar kind of girl.

I had the special, a simple cheeseburger and fries. Simple it was not. This will now be my go-to place for a burger whenever I'm in town. The burger is never frozen, the fries are real and fresh cut (but they do it right and soak them in water). OMG, I was expecting a typical flat little burger and a half a dozen bites of fries...oh no, bring your appetite my friend! The burger was juicy and thick but also fully cooked. The fries were divine! They were golden brown with a perfect crisp, skin on for flavor, and not too skinny nor thick AND didn't leave me wanting more. I ALWAYS want more fries. I made the mistake of saying "no" to tomato and lettuce and onion. They are usually a little limp leaf of nearly white lettuce and a paper thin slice of lacy flavorless wet tomato. Nope, not here. I saw them preparing other baskets as I was sitting at the counter awaiting my order...the fixings were thick, bright, and crunchy! Don't skip it. I'm also super excited to try their other dinner selections like meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. I have a hunch the potatoes won't be instant. I'm curious about breakfast too, although I'm never in town that early. They have a small selection of desserts as well. They also serve my favorite root beer, 1919, along with 1919 cream soda which I didn't even know they had! Just like the quality and quantity of food, the service is what I remember it used to be. I was greeted with a genuine warm and welcome smile. I wad given an appropriate amount of time to decide before being pestered multiple times. My questions were answered without a look of annoyance and I wasn't made to feel like a bother. The small talk was personable and appropriate. Service sets the tone and I felt comfortable and belonging. The ONLY reason I didn't give it 5 stars was it kinda yucked me out nobody wore gloves at any point. Grabbing fistful of potatoes out of a bucket of water would require a type of dishwashing glove, and I get that they are fried in hot oil so that didn't bother me as much. It was more the handling the raw fixings without gloves and noting that the lettuce (as beautiful as it was), and I'm assuming the other vegetables, we're not washed prior. I don't think many restaurants do for the reason of preparation speed and ingredient longevity. That part bothers me everywhere because all I can think of is pesticides and germs. I don't typically end on a less than positive note but, I knew this one was going to be lengthy and people's attention spans short. I lied, I will say this...I left very happy and satisfied and NOT smelling of grease! In summary, GO!

Turns out the state line between Minnesota and Wisconsin is just past the Horseshoe Pit in the parking lot and most of the parking and all of the restaurant is in Wisconsin. I ordered take out (during COViD times), called ahead to place my order. It was ready for pick up when I arrived. The building is large and brown. There is almost no signage on the outside, but this is it. PBR sign out front. Miller Lite sign in a small window. Front and back doors (maybe north and south side) both serve as main entrance. Outdoor patio overlooks the parking lot and a lot of trees. Several locals we're enjoying a relaxing day at the bar. Lots of seating inside for dining. Seemed comfortable. I did get the "who's this look" when I walked in. The bartender was nice, friendly and took my plastic and gave me my burger quickly. Easy peasey. I ordered the green olive burger and fries to go. The burger was solid, cooked just right and the olives come with bLue cheese on this one and it is a good tasty combination. The fries were very good. I'd like to try their Friday night fish fry sometime. Their website talks about the history of this place, kinda interesting if you have time check it out.

According to them it was a limited time flavor only during the season. Of course we instantly added it into our plans and the next morning we made the 30 minute drive from Duluth to give them a try! Driving into the parking lot, we were surprised seeing the almost Disney-fied, amusement park nature of this establishment. It's essentially an entire complex of buildings, including two food shops (one the main restaurant, one more like a cafe), a picnic shelter, completely separate bathroom building, playground, and even a dog walk park. This place seems like a destination type place, almost like Wall Drug in South Dakota or Bronner's in Michigan. We arrived just 15 minutes after opening and there were already a ton of people milling about. Luckily the main restaurant didn't have too much of a line and soon we had our milkshake in hand. Large Honeyberry Shake ($7.29) - Having eaten fresh honeyberries just the previous day, we knew that the flavor profile would be similar to blueberry, but more tangy and with some varieties having a somewhat of a tannic quality. This one tastes a little different, possibly transformed from being frozen and then blended with ice cream. It's pleasantly tart which is great on top of the sweetness from the ice cream. It's balanced and not too sweet. There are a lot of blended honeyberry pieces in the syrup that settle on the bottom of the cup. The overall texture is smooth and thick, tough to suck up the straw at first but softens later on for fuller sips. (5/5) Gordy's Hi Hat seems like one of those classic America, must visit attractions, on every road trip through Minnesota. From the one milkshake I ordered, I can see how they built up their reputation. I'd certainly revisit if I happen to be in the area again in the future! For what it is pricing feels pretty reasonable, and it's good to support local businesses. Seriously, this is such a cool, unique, and memorable place. I was really impressed with the BlackBerry shake specifically. I know they're known for it, and for good reason. Very creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness and fruity-ness. Also a good consistency where it is drink-able through a straw, but also enjoyable with a spoon. The burger was also very juicy, had a nice bun, and paired well with their fries and cheese curds. I would definitely recommend stopping at Gordy's if you're up north!
