This is becoming our go-to restaurant when heading up to the Duluth / Superior area to visit my family. This is a pretty classic greasy spoon type breakfast and lunch diner, where most folks seem to know each other. In fact, we had a gentleman stop over and make small talk with one of my uncles. So if you're into that kind of ambience, this place is great. The food is pretty typical type stuff, hashbrowns, eggs, pancakes, etc. Since it doesn't appear to be a gluten controlled area, I have Celiacs disease, I pretty much exclusively stick with the omelets, with the Superior Dump (pretty much everything in it: onions, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, ham, sausage, bacon, cheese) becoming my favorite option. They put toast on my omelet, which I gave to a family member, but I didn't mention I was gluten-free, so you have to bring that up, if it's a concern for you. I felt just fine afterwards, but you should be cautious if you have more severe Celiacs reactions. Our server was just fine, actually had two of them. They stopped by a handful of times, which was pretty much the right frequency and were very friendly. Again it's the kind of place where people are pretty familiar with each other. If you happen to be in the area and are looking for a more small-town breakfast feel, KD's is great choice! read more

If you want delicious, hot, family style food served fast by friendly staff, KD's Family Restaurant is the place for you. You should check out the homemade corned beef hash, I've never had better! They carve off chunks of meat with potatoes, onions, peppers if you want 'em... delicious! The bread is all made from scratch and taste great with great texture. Always have a great special, soup, chili, etc. Top it off with unlimited coffee or pop and a great dessert selection. Such good "greasy spoon" or diner type food. I wish they were open earlier on Saturdays. There doesn't seem to be a lot of early options in Superior. Service was prompt, all staff was friendly and greeted customers. Great place and delicious food, would recommend and eat here again. I got the steak omelet and the steak was great. Too often it's super well done and then thrown into an omelette. It was perfection. My daughter got a cheese burger and she loved it. Rarely finishes a meal and she destroyed that burger and fries! read more

Went for lunch today. Very good food, good service, and truly - huge portions for dirt cheap. It's a standard American diner type place. I recommend without hesitation. I will note that this genre of restaurant tends to be on the greasy side, but it's not excessive. Also note a few vegetarian options. Decided to drive across the bridge and check this out after checking out the pretty extensive breakfast menu online. I went with the #7 which is biscuits and gravy with hash browns and eggs. The dish presented as a pretty awesome, stick to your ribs breakfast upon first look. I loved that there was some hash browns under that gravy too. After a few bites, I realized I hadn't had any sausage yet. A few more bites, no sausage. I literally had one chunk of sausage on my entire plate. Gravy could have used more coarse black pepper as well, so I don't think I would order this again, and that makes me sad because I really wanted to love it. Hubby got an omelet he said was outstanding and it looked it. My son had French toast and eggs that he liked. I'd definitely go again and try something different. read more

Everything in the restaurant is homemade from scratch and beyond amazing. My picky kids were even trying things off our plates because it smelled so good. Prime rib was the best I've ever had. After reading a ton of reviews about this joint I was excited to try it out. The place was hoppin' and the girls were short staffed which makes for a frustrating day and they weren't hiding it bickering back and fourth. Bickering with the kitchen staff.. I couldn't help but hear their conversations because the restaurant is small. Anyways on to the food... I ordered my breakfast, which was eggs Benedict with a side of hash browns & a sweet tea to drink. The taste of the tea is hard to explain all I can say it wasn't very good it was was also $1.99 for a 8oz cup. The food there is "meh" I'd say it is nothing to write home about, but it would be a good place to come for hangover food that's for sure. read more

Our family of 5 stopped in for breakfast before driving back to the Twin Cities. We all had something different. The Eggs Benedict was beautiful with obviously homemade hollandiase sauce, which was delicious! The biscuits and gravy was generous and also wonderful, even though it was a half order. We also ordered the cheese curds to share which were also great. The smothered burrito had to be good judging by how quickly it disappeared from our son's plate! My ham and cheese omelet came with homemade bread (whole wheat). Who bothers making homemade bread every morning?! Our family of 4 stopped in just passing through and we were not disappointed! I ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich on the fresh baked bread, and it was easily the BEST Philly I've ever had. The cheese curds were super fresh and cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the Dad's Favorite (steak and eggs) and he loved his meal as well. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger and fries and clearly labeled her left overs so no one in the family would steal them lol. My 6 year old son said anytime we come to superior we HAVE to eat there lol. We will for sure be back again! Also, super friendly, personable staff and large portions. I don't know how this place has earned 4 stars??? It was disgusting! Our food was nasty and the place was filthy! My husband ordered eggs Benedict...eggs were way over cooked, the ham tasted metallic and the hash browns were way undercooked. They tout homemade bread and English muffins but they were not fully cooked nor toasted much at all. I ordered a standard eggs, bacon, hash browns and English muffin...eggs were over, bacon was rubbery, hash browns way under as well as doughy, undercooked/toasted muffin. Well, I don't dine in there. I can't stand Christian contemporary, and that's all they play over their speakers. I used to call into order for pick-up, but they started playing this lovely little game. They answer the phone, ask me hold, then just don't come back to the phone. After ten minutes of waiting, I try and all back, and the line is busy. Twenty minutes later, the line is busy. Once is a mistake, twice is bad service. If you read this, and I doubt it, if you're busy just don't answer the phone. It's not hard to do. Thanks for wasting my time. read more

I read a lot of great reviews so I took my family out to eat. The place wasn't busy which was awesome. We went before the dinner rush. The food was amazing and the portion sizes are bigger than what I expected. My boyfriend who rarely says anything more than "meh" when he eats out really enjoyed his sandwich. I went here today for breakfast, and it wasn't anything special. The menu is pretty basic; typical diner stuff with nothing special. I had a breakfast sandwich which was delicious! It had tons of butter and was cooked perfectly. However, my boyfriend had a burger which was subpar. The meat quality wasn't great, and the fries tasted like they hadn't been soaked. The food is wonderful. My girlfriend andI enjoyed it very much, so much that I called in this early afternoon for a late breakfast. I was put on hold right away, which is completely fine. I told her to take her time, eight minutes later I am still on hold and hear her and a coworker talking casually next to the phone. I figure they are busy and forgot about me, which is understandable and is fine. So I call back after hanging up and the line is busy, and continues to be busy for ten minutes after as well. The reason this is such a big deal to me is because last week when I tried calling to place an order the line was busy for an hour as well and I had to end up going to the superior family restaurant instead for me meal. Food is wonderful, staff seems to not give a f*ck. If I was the owner I would re-think my staff. The date is 4-18-21 incase the owner of the establishment sees this comment. I am writing a response to Carol J. I can not agree with anything she had written. I'm not sure where to start but here I go! I can assure you that their floors are swept and mopped every night after closing. Maybe Carol, you came in after a rush so it looked a little dirty. I'm not sure about you but I think it would be a little rude to start sweeping when you have a full house. I have seen them clean the menus throughout the times I have been there so maybe you just got a dirty one but if it was that big of a deal i'm sure you would of complained about that's too. As for their service, you could not had of been more far off. Their are no excuses for rude waitress but maybe when you came in when he/she was finishing up a bill or helping another table. Maybe they were short staffed. You have no idea what those people are going threw in their lives so maybe they had a bad day and your nasty attitude wasn't helping. Treat others how you want to be treated. Just be nice!! Now let's get to the food/drinks. Their lemonade taste just fine to me, maybe you just got the last of what was in the bottle. Or maybe you just don't like the brand of lemonade they buy. It's not the restaurants fault that you have poor taste buds. As for their fries, you are a bold face liar! They cut those baby's fresh and they are NOT bagged. They are then tossed into the fryer and cooked. Then put on your plate. Once again, maybe you just don't like the type of fries. I'm very disappointed in Carols review because she is misleading and stating false information. Please don't listen to what she has to say. The food/drinks are great and so are the workers. I was excited to hear about a newer locally owned restaurant. I enjoy supporting local businesses, and "Mom and Pop" type places. Right off the bat I was unimpressed. The floor looked like it hadn't been swept all day. The cashier/waiter was so bored and it was clear he did not want to be there as he barley noticed we came in he eventually brought over dirty menus. At this point I had not given up all hope, there were a few people there who seemed to be enjoying their meal. I perused the basic menu and settled on the Eggs Benedict while my boyfriend chose the Gyro. I ordered a lemonade, it was old, it tasted like old refrigerator, and I understand this may not be a popular menu item, so I told a woman (who I am not sure was the owner, cook, it was unclear) rather than apologizing I got an attitude back as she said "it was made fresh this morning" I assure you it had not been. A simple I am sorry, can I get you something else would have been just fine by me. Sadly I could tell she was irritated and offended so I apologized, she did not bother to address my sorry, very bad customer service in itself. The food came, it was not bad but not impressive either, soggy fries for my partner....I would have been okay with all that happened until this woman made it a point to comment how "she made more lemonade" to the bored waiter. It was directed at me, and not in a pleasant way...it was her way of getting across, again, that she was annoyed. Needless to say I will not go back. And the friend who recommended the place also called her and said she was embarrassed to have suggested the place....sadly this woman did not really care.... read more
