I read they have good food, but you can't believe everything you read online. So down MN Highway 23 I went. Thing that makes this place truly unique is that it's in Wisconsin but you can only get there from Minnesota Highway 23. And it's easy to miss as you enjoy scenic Hwy 23. Turns out the state line between Minnesota and Wisconsin is just past the Horseshoe Pit in the parking lot and most of the parking and all of the restaurant is in Wisconsin. I ordered take out (during COViD times), called ahead to place my order. It was ready for pick up when I arrived. The building is large and brown. There is almost no signage on the outside, but this is it. PBR sign out front. Miller Lite sign in a small window. Front and back doors (maybe north and south side) both serve as main entrance. Outdoor patio overlooks the parking lot and a lot of trees. Several locals we're enjoying a relaxing day at the bar. Lots of seating inside for dining. Seemed comfortable. I did get the "who's this look" when I walked in. The bartender was nice, friendly and took my plastic and gave me my burger quickly. Easy peasey. I ordered the green olive burger and fries to go. The burger was solid, cooked just right and the olives come with bLue cheese on this one and it is a good tasty combination. The fries were very good. Stopped in for a fish fry on my second weekend in town after moving to Duluth... What an impressive fish fry! I wasn't expecting it at all coming from Milwaukee fish fry my entire life. Outstanding Performance and great atmosphere. This place I can remember way back since the 60s Always had been a favorite for many way back from then to now . Has been upgraded and improved yet still remained that cozy little place with a good menu. Depending on you personal tastes and personal preferences it can accommodate you with plenty of options. My family rarely took summer vacations; it was my dad's "busy time" for work. Instead, we skied. A lot. We'd travel around the Upper Midwest on weekends, throw in an occasional trip out West, but our "go to" local place was/is called "Mont du Lac", and it was at the other end of town from our house, on Minnesota highway 23, right after you left the city limits. We were there a lot as a family, but my most vivid memory of the place was it was the scene of the only head-on car collision I have been in, thankfully at low speed, and thankfully with my brother driving, and not me. Fast forward 5 decades, and at the entrance of the ski hill is a local tavern, which even though the highway in front of the joint is in Minnesota, due to a geographic anomaly, the tavern is on a little spit of land claimed by Wisconsin. The Wabegon (I have no idea what that means, unless it's a pun on "Wobegon") is open 7 days at varying hours, and serves a variety of bar favorites, including burgers and pizza. It's been perched there since 1932. Wabby Burgers start off with a 1/2 pound of fresh ground, and combinations of all ilks are available. Kawika said the basic cheeseburgert was very enjoyable. If you want to take the "scenic route" to Duluth from Minneapolis, hop off I-35 at Minnesota 23, and amble up this back road, stopping for a cool brew at the Wab. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday to have an afternoon drink and app. Bartender was super friendly and prompt on refills and getting us our food. It was clean and offered a good selection for a small bar. They offer Spotted Cow and Castle Danger on tap which was really popular. It is handicapped accessible and they sell off sale. There is a room for family dining if folks don't want to sit in the bar area. read more

This establishment needs a thorough investigation from the health department. Moldy beer lines, no routine kitchen hood cleaning despite having a charbroiler, a leaky walk-in cooler with many food safety storage violations, and above all a sludgy Coca-Cola pop gun. I have witnessed these things, and am not surprised that many folks chose to drink canned beer and chips instead of tap beer and eat from the kitchen. read more

This place is a hidden gem! Wobegon Grill is a cute little bar and grill tucked away on highway 23, barely in Wisconsin, but only accessible from Minnesota (their mailbox is in Minnesota, but the restaurant is in Wisconsin). We started off with a couple of their bloody marys, which were delicious. I had a delicious steak and eggs, and my wife had the french toast which was 3 huge slices of cinnamon toast, with butter and syrup. This is a great place to drink beer and bloody marys and watch football! Warning: it can be hard to find. We drove by it without recognizing it at first, and had to turn around and go back (protip: Look for the Pabst Blue Ribbon sign). Would highly recommend, we will definitely eat there again. read more

Nothing to look at hit great hamburgers. I had a blue cheese and olive burger which I really liked wife had a cheeseburger. The French fries were some of the best. Their menu said Sunday special was fried chicken but they no longer have chicken as a special anytime. The server was very nice but not very organized. read more

Tried this place for the first time this weekend(11/14/2915). Wow! What a surprise. Very good food and lots of it. I had a portobello bacon cheese burger. It's a half pound burger topped with a sliced up portobello mushroom that I think was sautéed in butter. Then they pile a insane amount of thick cut bacon. It's then covered with cheese. The bun was excellent. The burger stood about 5 inches tall. The burger was perfectly cooked with a little pink in it. Very juicy. This ranks up there with some of my favorite burgers from the Nook and Jerseys. The fries were very good too. My brother got their prime rib special. $15.99 for a 12 to 16oz cut. They say 12 to 16 because they hand cut it there. The cut my brother got was all of 16oz. It was cooked exactly as he ordered which was medium rare. Brother said it was tender and flavorful. He also got the baby red potatoes that were seasoned with rosemary and something else he could not figure out. Said they were amazing. Two of my nephews got their California deluxe burgers. Both said they were awesome. We started out with a order of buffalo wings. Very good sauce. We all agreed that this is our new favorite place to go to during deer hunting season. Plus they have a row of slot machines to lose money at while you wait for your food. In my nephews case, win $200. Going again this weekend. Will add pics and another review. read more

I have lived in the area since 2012 and have driven by many times but finally stopped by in April 2019. I LOVE the food and the wait-staff. The first time was for a fish fry and it was hopping but the staff always took their time with everyone and did not make anyone feel rushed. Then we went to Prime Rib Saturday. I do not like Prime Rib but wow! What can I say it was delish! My mom has a severe food allergy and staff were kind, accommodating and knowledgeable so she was able to enjoy food there too! Just visited May 17th, Party of 6, and had the best of time, the food was better than we could ever ask for, the service also was great.... It was Friday Fish Fry, all you can eat... it was fantastic, lightly breaded Alaskan Pollock, fresh,tasty, excellently cooked, tartare was also fantastic...cole slaw, tasty and choice of potato, of which I had the baby red mashed potatoes w/gravy and the potato's were to die for...I have never ever had such good mashed potatoes, ever...I ordered a tossed salad on side, very very fresh and also really good..I seen burgers and steaks and a pasta dish go by and at my table there was steak and a BLT and all looked delicious and were so raved about... I will definitely return, it was well worth the scenic ride, will definitely return for more dinners... read more

Was excited to get some Wisconsin fish fry since we were camping right down the road at Fondulac Campground. They even put fliers out there to get business from the campers. This bar is RACIST RACIST RACIST! The overweight female bartender saw me and immediately ignored us. She went to get a young male bartender to serve us. The locals were also racist. They kept staring and people actually moved away from us and left the bar. My husband was trying to ignore it and just wanted to have our dinner and enjoy the night, but it was hard to ignore. When our drinks were empty, the racist bartender went and got the other bartender to serve us. They should put whites only on their fliers so the wrong campers don't come into their establishment. It's embarrassing that there are still so many racist in this country. Trash establishment. We tipped the nice bartender and left. We plan on camping up there much more this summer and we would have loved to have given this place more of our business if they would have treated us with a little respect. read more
