Ordered doordash. Received very quickly. Doordash did their job. Grottos forgot our French fries, bag was stapled and sealed when we Received the order. Also, the meat on the cheesesteak was burnt. Again, nothing to do with doordash. Called Grottos, young lady who i spoke with talked to the manager, if you want to call them that, said that it's not on them, I have to put my complaint in with Doordash. We have been customers for years. Guess who we will not be visiting anymore. Management can make or break a place. Passing the buck and not apologizing is just showing how poor the management really is. When I told the young lady on the phone that it's a shame they were going to lose a good customer over a burnt cheesesteak and French fries, she laughed. I have already written a google review on this place, but since I am unable to edit it I needed to share another piece of important information. The rewards program/swirl card system seems like a good idea in theory. You give them your name and number and every so often you will get a 10.00 discount on your order and a free children's pizza on your birthday. But beware, if you have any kind of issue in their restaurant, even if it has nothing to do with the staff, they will use your participation in this program against you. They will give your name and number to the police and involve themselves in matters that should not concern them. I am nearly 40 and have never had any trouble with the law in my entire life until they meddled in my business; the context of which they knew nothing about. They will do this with no hesitation. When you confront them about this they will deny it. But no one else there knew my number but their computer system. To make matters worse they will then ban you from their restaurant. The servers are very two-faced, and the general manager John is one of the most heartless men I've ever met. I was a very loyal regular customer every Friday night for years. I had friends there I loved who I will never see again. That is the hardest part of all. No goodbyes, no second chances. They did it to me, please don't think it won't happen to you. I don't think a few ten dollar discounts here and there and a once a year baby sized pizza with no toppings are worth it. Proceed with caution. Was looking for a simple lunch and a place to sit down to dine. Visiting Dover the past 10 days, my dining has been limited. Grottos was in walking distance so I thought I would give them a shot. I walked in to the Sports Bar and there was seating available. Its nice how there are tv screens along all walls. If you are a NFL or sports fan, this would be the place to go. I was greeted quickly and decided to order a Philly and fries. Since this place prides itself on pizza, I wanted to try a slice of cheese. I recieved the slice first. It was hot, cheese melted in my mouth. The slice wasn't thick, but it wasn't super thin either. I dont like paper thin pizza crust. The Philly was a touch dry, and I was surprised I didn't see any with onions and peppers. Fries were hot and on point. I would say good simple lunch that I was looking for. Great place to catch a game, grab a beer, and hangout with friends or family. This place is split, so the "adult" and kid side don't collide. There are multiple TVs in the game area and plenty of games in the game room for kids. I've only ever gotten pizza and wings here and I can't complain about the flavor or price. Nothing spectacular, but not horrible. Service wise, I am always greeted with a smile and check on appropriately. If your dropping off your kid to college, stop here before heading back. read more

I don't like going to Grottos but my sister makes me anytime she is visiting from out of town. She loves the pizza, me not so much. It's best to eat the pizza while it's still hot because as soon as it cools down it tastes like plastic. It is a nice and big restaurant with lots of TVs for you to enjoy sports games. we went to watch the eagles vs greenbay game tonight & have dinner. our two kids are greenbay fans so we took them out to watch the game. the young man who seated us was great!!! the food was yummy!! manger was great in the arcade when issues with the prizes. our only issue was how rude the staff got over not being a ealges supporter. we were rushed out the door b4 we even made to the 2nd quarter!!! we weren't even finshed our food b4 we were brought box's/bill b4 we were done eating. place was dead so no reason to rush us out like this. kids can't sit at the bar to young & figured this is the best place kid friendly to take them to see the game since we didn't have cable to watch it. wrong!!! we got dirty looks when we didn't get up fast enough staff lingered by our table until we would leave very unprofessional & rude!!! they are kids wearing jerseys!! 7 year old girl & 12 year old boy not very one is going to like the same football team it's america!!! It's pretty festive at Grotto Pizza Dover. I've counted 20 Christmas trees thus far. Nice. After a long day of cooking, family, friends and fellowship, it was time to unwind. We returned to Dover Downs casino but as it was a bit crowded, decide to give this place a try. It's one spot devided into two, Pizza parlor and pub. I even saw my bartender doubling up as a waiter on the pizza side. We got here on last call but was able to get the elusive magarita (because it's a seasonal drink and winter is not the season). My magarita was okay. The vibe of the place was nice. Telly screens surround most of the walls but when I walked in they were all on the same channel. Seems like this is the spot the 30-40 something Dovanians (obviously my word) chill at. The place was also clean especially this close to closing time. Nice. Promptly seated during lunch hour on Feb 1st, in a hurry so ordered off quick lunch menu. After a wait of 30minutes we witnessed a server at an adjacent table reconcile a mistaken food delivery by taking our food which was ordered before that table and give it to her patrons who had clearly ordered the same item. We were then told we're waiting on fresh fries, and after another 15minutes of listening to staff chatting at the register, we asked for our food and were given an apology. We ordered grotto pizza for delivery to our hotel. Everything came hot and fresh. The pizza was good but I've had better at other places. I think it's the sauce that I'm not quite a fan of but that's just my personal opinion. The wedge salad with blue cheese dressing was absolutely delicious and the cheesy garlic bread with marinara sauce was good as well. Now we are seated... our server Tessa walks up and introduced herself and asked what I would like to drink. My better half was in the bathroom so I said coke for him and asked if they had cherry coke. She said no but I can make it for you. Omg already I'm super excited about this dinner. My drink was delicious. My better half loves French onion soup however hates onions, I know weird right? However he still always asks if the kitchen can make it without onions. Tessa said I'll be right back. They said they will do their best. Y'ALL ...there was not one onion in the broth. The kitchen staff knocked my mans favorite soup out of the park. I was in Ocean City for the weekend and while I was there I kept seeing Grotto Pizza all over Delaware and O.C I knew I had to try it before I left and stopped at this location. I was shocked by how big it was and that they actually have a full bar. They seem to have a lot of options for families, kid parties and even half cooked pizza to finish baking at home. However the pizza itself was not good. The slices were tiny, too much sauce, the cheese didn't taste good and since when is cheese ever bad. I came in with some coworkers and we had a pizza and an antipasta salad along with a clam chowder soup. The soup was so delicious, would HIGHLY recommend it! The most awful pizza ever! We live in New Jersey and we were craving pizza. We had another pizza place in mind, but we saw The Grotto popping out every few miles, we took a gamble. I was greeted promptly as I walked into the door. I didn't have too much time for lunch and hit the bar. It has numerous TVs and enough screens to watch NFL Sunday or March Madness. So I sat down glanced the menu and ordered the regular sized Veggie Bianco and the Inferno wings. The wings came out in about 10-15 minutes. I was expecting something with a little more kick if you call it Inferno. If Caliente Insanity wings were 10, Buffalo Wild Wings (on a good day) reformulated Blazin' were a 7, these Inferno wings are a 4. Not even enough to make you break a sweat. Decent flavor though but disappointing. At least there is a good amount of meat per wing but not enough to justify the $8.99 price for 6. So you come here for the pizza. Topped with artichokes, diced tomatoes, and some type of leafy green (kale?). The regular size is 12" and the large is 16". To start things off, this is a thin crust pizza. Wish I had known that earlier since the crust cannot hold up to the veggies. The crust was either soggy because of the veggies (draining the tomatoes would've helped) or didn't spend enough time in the oven. The only way you could pick a slice up with one hand was to eat 7/8ths of the pizza with a knife and fork and then pick up the remaining outer crust. Not the ideal eating experience. Service was okay at best. Had my drink refilled once but was only checked on as I was about to pay for my meal. Overall, I would agree with the Yelp majority of the poor reviews of this place. Come here for the sports, not for the pizza. You're better off going to the major chains which are marginally better. C'mon Delaware, you can do better for pizza. read more

It's been years since I had Grottos pizza. After eating their pizza yesterday I think I can wait decades to eat it again. I ordered a regular Grande pizza which according to the description is a stuffed pizza. When I opened the box I was underwhelmed. I can down a medium pizza without much effort. I stopped after 2 slices of the Grotto Grande and put it in the fridge. I also ordered a large Beach Fries. If you like fries, or at least a large quantity of fries, you might like these. It's literally a bucket of fries for $7. Be sure to eat them quick though because they are unsalvageable pieces of potato goo when they cool. read more

My family and I decided to go here for our family dinner tonight. We were sat down by the friendly hostess and we waited for our server. We were greeted by Leslie (I think that was her name, long black hair--Caucasian women) and Beckey (sweet older lady) they took our drinks. Another server came her name was Morgan she was so nice and bubbly. She took our order. Prior to this, there was a miss up with who was going to take the table and after small talk at the side they decided to give it to Leslie. Everything was going smoothly until the mix up, My significant other and I order large fries for our appetizer and pizzas for dinner. (BBQ chicken and Pepperoni--regular) well our pizza came out before our appetizer and our sauces (ranch and bbq sauce) came out half way towards the end of our meal. We had to ask Beckey the previous server to get drinks refilled and here is the icing on the cake .... when the fries came I questioned if it was a large. Leslie mentioned (and I can't make this up) "I rang in a small because I figured since you guys ordered a lot of food you weren't going to finish it. So to not waste food I used my better judgement and gave you a small" I was lost for words and I honestly didn't know what to say. She was the worst server I had in my entire life, and for this to be my significant other's first time here he mentioned he doesn't want to come back. Lastly, we told her to apply the military discount onto our checks she did it for me, my significant other and my parents but not the other check at our table. Things I loved: -Kids menu -Employee working the gelato case up front. -My friend who has celiac disease can order gluten free pizza here and NOT get sick which means the kitchen is careful about cross-contamination for allergies. -Gelato -They give your kids balloons. Things I did not love: -The arcade and how nobody told us you can't redeem any prizes for your tickets because the prize thing was broken. Made for some sad kids. I mean c'mon! I want a sample sized laffy taffy for spending $20 dollars in your arcade!!! -Mediocre table service. -Cleanliness of the arcade area and bathroom. -They give your kids balloons.
