Although Grotto Pizza is a Delaware/Maryland chain, it typically caters to local customers. Their locations span pretty much from Rehoboth Beach to Concord Pike. It's been awhile since we've dined in one, so we figured we try it again. Their pizza is fairly well prepared. The crust is crispy and thin. However, the sauce seems to be a bit blend, like lacking some seasoning or spices. Toppings are good, and they do offer a variety of special pizzas. Staff was friendly and helpful. The dining experience seems lacking a bit, although it's no fault of the management nor the staff. It just seems like dining in a crowded diner, than a top notch pizza place. read more

Food and service were ok for my recent take out order. I ordered a cheesesteak and the kid's mac n' cheese with fries. The cheesesteak was good. The mac n' cheese seemed old and wasn't hot. Pizza has been going down hill. This Friday was the worst. I ordered two juniors; one with mushrooms and extra cheese; one with sweet peppers onion and extra cheese to pick up. Stopped for pizza here while in town following an event hosted by friends. This chain pizza spot did the job for hungry hotel guests. Experience, food and service was as expected. Came in tonight after a shopping spree. Sat at a table in the bar. Ordered a Chicken cheesesteak with fries. I think our waitress forgot about our food. It took like 40 minutes to receive our cheesesteak. By the time she brought it out to us and left, I called her over and told her the cheesesteak was cold. The chicken looked dry because it was starting to get cold. She said she was sorry about that and would have the kitchen make us a new one. She took the food back, and we think she just put it under a heating lamb because when she brought it back out, the food was luke warm, the bun was burned and the chicken was dry. I took the food up to the bar and told her just to forget the cheesesteak and bring us 2 slices of cheese pizza. The pizza was very greasy and the crust was dry and burned. Waitress did not come to check on us. She was at the opposite end of the bar, eating and checking her phone. Won't be back!!! read more

Holy smokes, I've never before seen a 12 inch Mexican pizza priced at 19 bucks. That's nearly double the price of what most pizza places around my area charge! At least it tasted good though - we would have been really pissed if it didn't at that price. I think the cheesy garlic bread and side salad were the only things under ten bucks on the menu. I can't give this place anything less than 3 stars simply because of how hard they try. Let's just be clear: first...you do not eat here because you like good pizza. The pizza sucks. If you have ever had a real slice of New York pizza or you have been to Brooklyn you can't possibly say this pizza is good. It's definitely NOT amazing. But what if you don't give pepperonis ass? First time going to this Grottos, I enjoy it's location because they're usually only near the beach. Definitely going again, I went with my siblings for dinner. I highly recommend the beach fries with a side of cheese, if you're a Thrashers fan then these fries are for you. They are probably some of the best fries I had with pizza in a long time. We got boneless wings because they were a little cheaper, and it was a great idea because they were delicious and crispy. The staff was super friendly and we tipped well for their efforts. The Grotto's specialty though, their Pizza was very mid. We got a large pie and it was very overdone with the bottom of the pizza being burnt in some areas. I stopped at Grotto for lunch. The restaurant building is fairly new and nicely appointed. The drink specials looked inviting (but too early in the day for me). I had a pizza and salad lunch special for $6.99. The salad was okay, but had too much of the white center part of the lettuce which is not my favorite part of a head of lettuce. I really wanted to try a Grotto pizza (I heard it was good). The "Grotto legendary" pizza was disappointing and tasted more like a frozen supermarket pizza. I was hoping for a better pizza experience. I would return for the daily drink special and try some of the other food items, but not the pizza. read more

Grotto Pizza has always been a favorite beach pizza place for me but not I live in DE & can regularly enjoy it. Was surprised on a previous visit where the pizza just wasn't as good as usual which was a big surprise because I have never been disappointed at any of there locations. I stayed at the hotel across the parking lot from this pizza place and picked up a large pie and wings for a late night meal after a long day of traveling. The place was fairly busy but the pickup was pretty quick after placing the order. We ordered a large Baker's Choice pizza which had a variety of toppings, including pepperoni, sausages, mushrooms, and onion and garlic. The pizza smelled delicious and was super hot and fresh. Unfortunately, when I got back to the hotel room and started eating it, I was not as excited as I had hoped to have been. The cheese was a waxy tasting and the tomato sauce was not my favorite (a little too sweet for my liking). The toppings were all pretty tasty except for the garlic which was a little burnt and therefore did not taste as floral and strong as it could have. The boneless wings though, which were coated in a sweet soy/teriyaki sauce were amazing! I wish I had ordered just the wings, for if I forget the pizza, this review would be 5 stars! If staying in the area, I would definitely recommend the wings (but not necessarily the pizza)! read more

Excellent addition to the Middletown pizza scene. Always dependable food and the service is excellent as well. Pizza is top notch as you'd expect at Grotto as well as the excellent boli's and pasta dishes. The new weekday dine-in specials are great as well. A great place to take the family. Only downside is lack of delivery option and the fact they haven't yet enacted football betting at this location. Hands down the new best pie in Middletown. read more

First time at Grotto despite years living in and near Delaware. Ordered a Junior with sausage and while its not the Philly style I tend to prefer I really enjoyed it. I'm reminded of pizza I had in Italy but that was in Naples in 1991 so who really knows? The crust was thin, crispy and the sauce just spicy enough to make it interesting.
