Called in for takeout on a Friday afternoon, just before 5:00. Ordered two pizzas and 16 wings-inly took 20 minutes! I arrived to a crowded restaurant, there was a lot going on. Food was ready when i got there, also asked for 6 bottled drinks. Total was over $100-a little crazy if you ask me. Pizza was typical Grotto-meh. Wings were surprisingly really good-quite meaty, good tasting sauce. My biggest takeaway was that they are overpriced, and can be, due to the brand they built. If the wings were bad, this would've been two stars. read more

Stopped in to pick up a Large meat lovers pizza and a veggie pizza (held the olives) for the San Francisco/Philly game yesterday and was so disappointed. Hardly any meat on the meat lovers and the veggie was dry and crust was burnt. I should have gone to Domino's for the veggie and POLISENOS for the meat lovers. I've heard so much about this place so I decided to take a road trip and try it for myself. Ordered a large pizza to try out. Ordered the 16" for $20. The restaurant is very cozy and the service is right on ,at this location. Didn't know this is a franchise and they are located all around the Delaware shore .Now I'm originally a New Yorker,and will always be one but let me say this pizza tops a lot from NY. The crust is thin but sturdy. I was told the dough is hand spun . Not doughy at all. It looks like they put the cheese down first then the sauce. It's the perfect amounts with no oil on the pizza surface. Not too filling because of less dough. The 5 stars are for the service,pizza and atmosphere.. Pizza was OK,way too expensive for what it is,the regular size is the size of a medium pizza from the big chain stores,i would not recommend this restaurant,it looks clean though,can't comment on service because I order carry out. read more

This place does not have the worst pizza I've had, but it is far from good. If you're not picky about your pizza, then this is the place for you, but being from the Connecticut/New York area, this pizza could have been better, from the sauce to the cheese to the crust. I love grottos pizza. This is a very sanitary location (can't say the same about some of the others). Service was a bit slow. Other than that it is a good experience. Expect for the stalls in the women's bathroom. There are massive gaps in the stalls and it is very uncomfortable. read more

Can say that the pizzas were hot, ready on time, and were large enough to feed our group. However, taste wasn't great. The 'traditional' cheese pizza was bizarre- cheese is directly on the crust, then the pizza sauce (which is way too sweet) is added on top in a swirl pattern (so only parts of each slice have any sauce). The cheese blend also tasted strange, like maybe it had cheddar in it? The margherita pizza was okay, except for the onions, which Grotto's online ordering doesn't allow you to remove. Onions don't belong on a margherita pizza! Next time we're in town, we'll be looking for somewhere else to get pizza. read more

Food is getting expensive enough these days, so that when you spend $35 for dinner for two and get subpar food, that's shameful. I ordered the large antipasto salad which supposedly comes with anchovies. This salad was all wilting romaine, it was not supposed to have iceberg but it did. I asked about the lettuce and the anchovies before ordering. My wife had a traditional pizza which was brought to the table fully burnt, bottom was black. The days of Grottos being a great beach pizza restaurant are over. The service was great however. The section we were seated in looked like it had not been cleaned in days. Trash everywhere. Beware. Grotto is always reliable. The pizza remains unique with the saucy swirl. I don't know if I've visited enough that it's lost it's "must go to" appeal or if the quality of the food has dropped, could also be a location issue. Pizza was ok. The kids enjoyed garlic bread and buttered noodles. Our salads were wilted like they were pre-made and stored in a cooler -- probably a COVID thing. I don't drive almost 8 hours on a busy beach weekend to get any ol' crappy pizza in lower Delaware. There is a reason that Grotto has remained consistent and stayed open for 50+ years now. I'd give anything to replicate the sweetness of that sauce. The swirl they place on top is a beautiful pinwheel of deliciousness. The cheese is sparse in parts but for good reason, they have their own unique style and I like that the most about them. I'm such a piggly wiggly that I got a 12" on the way down for my trip and then another 12" on the way back. I ate both in full, in my car and I'm not ashamed to publicly admit it. I've been getting Grotto since the Bloomsburg Fair and can NEVER pass it up when it comes to visiting relatives at the Delaware shore. Reasonable prices, it was rather clean with a nice bar area in the restaurant itself. And the young girls manning the counters were pleasant and helpful when I made my two pickup orders, assisting me with plates and napkins for the devouring that was about to take place in the passenger seat. I hope my fascination continues for another 50 years with this chain and I don't want them to ever change. I heart you Grotto, please love me back. Please? read more

The service here has progressively gone downhill. It used to be a fun place to come and get pizza and anymore, it's just not. Today, we ordered 2 kids meals and a large pizza and the waitress was more interested in "yep, yep, yep, got it" then actually listening to the order. A different server brought the pizza out and when our waitress walked past she said is everything ok? I said we're just waiting on the kids meals....she nodded and kept walking. 20 minutes later when she finally came back, asked if we needed a box to go and I said that we still have no kids meals and she told us she "didn't hear us order kids meals" They weren't even busy. The waitresses are more interested in standing around chatting with each other, than they are taking care of customers. I shouldn't have to ask for drinks to be refilled. You go in and they are more worried about looking cute than actually taking care of their customers. read more

A pleasant surprise! Thought I try this place while I was in Delaware to see what all the fuss is about and it was good experience for me. This place had a very helpful staff and flavorful food. We thought we would have a wait and almost left this place, but when I went inside to see the wait time the hostess said no wait for a party of 3 and she held table while I communicated this info to my friends waiting in the car parking lot. This place /location has a boatload of specials (like 8) through out the week. We had the Margherita pizza. It was my first time tasting this and I found it good, not the best pizza I have eaten, but very fresh. It had just the right amount of fresh tomatoes, not enough basil and mushrooms on it for my liking, but the waitress was very helpful in lots of ways. Had the strawberry gelato and found that to be very refreshing after having pizza and I had never experience this offering at a pizza place! The gelato had an excellent strawberry flavor to it. They let you sample all their flavors. I had sample 4 flavors. Seems like a great place for family type of pizza eating. It has a bar area and give discounts to kids in their team uniforms everyday. Honestly I didn't stop at grottos for the longest time, I am more of a small pizza shop place and grottos being as big and having as many sore fronts as they do, I believed them to have more of the big chain style pizzas. I was wrong, grottos makes a really good pizza. The cheese crust and sauce are all really flavorful, and they make pretty good wings as well. I would absolutely recommend checking them out and believe me I think you'll be surprised if you think they are going to be like some of the bigger pizza chains. read more

Every time we go to OC we stop at the Milford location, while the staff is always nice, polite snd tentative. The pizza has been going down hill to no more than to become a boxed pizza, we had the pepperoni and it was sliced so thin you could see thru it and you probably only got 2 pieces per slice. Sadly we will not be coming back. read more

Well let's say the pizza is very average. Lots of people hype it up but really it's just in the tier of little Caesars. They also add way to much sauce on the pizza were you just taste the sauce. On my way home from visiting the Delaware beaches I often stop at this grotto's location to get a pizza to take home. When I got home this evening I opened the box to discover my $18.99 large "made to order" pizza was several pizzas put together. This is a disgrace. I will never come here again. read more

We ordered a "Baker's Choice" pizza and it was so good. The sauce was not too spicy but just right. It had all the toppings you would want along with extra cheese. I would highly recommend this pizza and this restaurant. Usually we have a slice or 2 leftover but there was no leftovers. read more

The staff is friendly and the location is convenient, but what it's known for - the pizza - is just not good. Unfortunately it's a local favorite, but my wife and I just couldn't stomach the bland sauce and crust. If you're looking for a large location to host a party or have a gathering, go to Grottos (and order anything but pizza).
