2 Stars - Disappointing Portions & Not Worth the Price I stopped by Groucho's Deli in South Charlotte and ordered two sandwiches to go--the Roast Beef Marinate and the Reuben Variation with slaw instead of kraut. We didn't open the boxes until we got to the park, and honestly, we were both shocked at how tiny the portions were. The Roast Beef Marinate was especially disappointing. The menu uses over 50 words to describe this "piled high," "savory," "tender," "signature sauced" sandwich... but what I received was basically bread with a very small amount of roast beef. Nothing else appeared to be on it. For over $10, it felt more like a sample than a meal. Please look at my photo and keep the menu description in mind--it's almost humorous compared to what's actually served. The Reuben Variation didn't fare much better. Also very small, lacking flavor, and honestly the weakest versions of these sandwiches we've had anywhere in the Charlotte area. One of the sandwiches came with a small prepackaged bag of chips and a pickle spear. We also grabbed three cans of diet cream soda, and the total came out to over $30. For two undersized sandwiches and a few drinks, that price is pretty surprising. We really wanted to like this place, but based on our experience, we'll be passing on Groucho's next time we're craving deli sandwiches. read more

Another good franchise sandwich shop we tried on our visit to Charlotte. Small dining room floor with a half dozen tables, and a closed off kitchen where they do the magic but don't let you peek. Service was routine but friendly, and this place seems to do mostly take out orders. While we felt it was a bit on the pricey side, the sandwiches were good. We had the Bacon & Turkey Club (3 stars serviceable), the Chicken Salad Sandwich (3 Stars nice), and the Pastrami Sandwich (4 stars and the obvious hit of the meal). The meats were all very nice, with the pastrami being the best of the lot. If we had to call out the most notable thing, it would be the dipping sauces they offer and sell. All in all, a good lunchtime stop. read more

Had not been to a grouch deli in a while my daughter saw that there was one here in Charlotte and we immediately drove 45 minutes out. It was well worth it... I got my favorite the STP Dipper with extra sauce. My sandwich was delicious. The staff was very friendly, beautiful aesthetics. Only concern was when I open the take out container a bag of chips was directly on top of my sub. I just think they should've had a protective sheet or a napkin to separate the potato chip bag from my sandwich. But nonetheless, I had a great time. read more

Very disappointed in this Charlotte location. I use to be a regular at the Spartanburg location. The apollo dipper is the perfect lunch sandwich. Unfortunately, the past few visits at the Charlotte location, a stench that can only be described as blunt or weed smoke that has filled the store. I still remember the first time I had Groucho's while visiting a buddy at USC. If you are a fan of subs absolutely packed with meat and cheese like I am then this is your kind of sandwich place. Also bonus points if you enjoy dipping your sandwiches because that's what they are all about here! They are known for their signature 45 sauce and some of their best sandwiches include the Apollo and STP dippers which come absolutely packed with meat and cheese and are perfect for dunking in the 45, or my favorite the Danish Bleu. Walked in 45 mins prior to close and employees were nowhere to be found- acted like it was a burden for me to be ordering. When I asked if my cold sub could be made warm, the employee told me "well... we'd have to microwave it.." My sandwich was made wrong TWICE. I just accepted defeat and left with the wrong sandwich and sauce. Was charged extra for things that came with my sub too. $15 for a waste of time . Only upside is they have good bread. read more

It has been a while since I have visited this location, however, I was in the area around lunch time and remembered the STP (Swiss, Turkey, Roast Beef with Crumbled Bacon). Unfortunately Covid-19 has definitely impacted this location. Like my visit in 2018, the ordering process was still confusing. Upon arrival I walked right to the counter, thinking that is where to order. No one was there, but a few minutes later an employee came and took my order, STP with a side of Pasta Salad and Sprite. I proceeded to go to a booth and realized people in the booth next to me were waiting to order from someone at the booth. Should we order at the counter or table. What is right? Ultimately I felt bad because they were there when I arrived, but ordered after me. So, after 10 minutes of being seated I never received my drink. Finally, a waitress, if that is what you want to call them, came to my booth to ask if I would like to order. I explained I ordered and was just waiting on my drink and food. I had to tell her what I ordered and shortly after was brought my Sprite, in a Red Solo cup. Really? A red solo cup? No lid? Very strange. My sandwich arrived and was definitely disappointing. The meat to bread ratio was completely off. Very little turkey and roast beef, and covered with crumbled bacon. The cheese was melted but I felt instead of being heated under an oven it was microwaved. Not sure, but the taste was different. As for the pasta salad, no words. I spent $4.00 for a little cup of maybe four pieces of pasta and veggies in oil. I cannot believe they had the nerve to serve it, need the less charge $4.00. And, the menu says an 8oz portion, it was not. See photos. Ultimately I was very disappointed as I did really like the STP in the past, but not sure I will be rushing back anytime soon. read more

Gave this place another shot, and the same results. Arghhhh... All of the meats were overly salty on the sandwiches. The salad was bountiful, but you guessed it, overwhelmed by the salty protein (turkey). 45 dressing and potato salad, are they adding sugar to these things?! I really just don't get it, review peeps. Looking for a nice lunch spot? Look no further! Groucho's has a lot of character and the food is very tasty! Groucho's is located in a plaza with a few fitness and food businesses. Parking is plentiful and you can typically get a spot our front. There are plenty of spaces at the bar or in the dining room. You seat yourself, the server comes to you, and you then order. I wanted to try a salad and a sandwich, but didn't want a full size of either. So I was very happy to hear they have a half and half combo which worked out perfectly! I ordered the white moose and turkey cheddar and bacon salad. The sandwich was basic, exactly what I was looking for, and the Formula 45 sauce made it extra tasty! The roll the sandwich came on was a little dry, but they had other options for bread, which is what I may recommend. They have deals during the week and post on Instagram frequently. FYI- you pay 25 cents for cups of water. read more

I saw a picture of the STP Dipper and I knew I had to try it!! Lunch plans were thus confirmed and I headed to the new Groucho's Deli in South Park. Groucho's Deli took over the old IPho spot near Montford. It shares a parking lot with the "lil" Harris Teeter and Portofino's. The inside is very inviting and there are plenty of seating. There are booths, tables and a cool wood community table. The decor is very clean with an industrial feel. When I arrived I was quickly greeted and able to choose a table. The whole place was empty cause I came around 3:30pm for a late lunch. I placed my order and it arrived to me within 10 minutes of me ordering. I ordered the STP Dipper cause I had to after seeing the picture but I did sub the Formula 45/Danish Bleu for ranch. I also subbed the chips for the Pasta Salad. I was impressed with my sandwich and the taste of the pasta salad. The pasta salad is an oil and vinegar based pasta salad with a good amount of veggies in it. The cup is kinda small it's served in and the veggies are a large chop so I didn't get much pasta. Now the STP Dipper was delish. It's tasted great with the ranch also. It came out all warm and toasty and the meats work well together. I did get the 6in and it was just enough for lunch. A pickle spear is also served on the side. I was also able to place a togo order for a friend at work and it was easy breezy. I also downloaded the app to get the $5 reward and to start earning points. I would definitely recommend giving Groucho's Deli a try. I know I will be coming back and trying more of their menu items. 2020 Oct 05, 13:26; I have visited this particular store numerous times and the store has been clean , restrooms clean and stocked, the food very good and the service being tip top. However, those visits were always weekends and I had never visited on a week day until today. Today the experience was not up to what I have come to expect at all. And I can understand an off day. But I now have to wonder if this pattern I saw today is normal for week days... If this was my first time here, I would not come back. From the moment of entering the door I could see the experience was not the norm I have come to expect. The staff was not friendly and could even be said as not nice. The restrooms were messy and needed serious attention. The server was not friendly or even happy with what she was doing. Getting the table cleaned was not good. When my food arrived it was burnt and hard. I did try to eat it but I had to ask them to please remake it. When I asked for a napkin, they had not brought any with the food, I was told they can't have any on the table. Overall a bad experience read more

I love a good deli sandwich and have been wanting to try Grocho's for a while. When Foodsby (our building lunch delivery service) announced they were adding Groucho's as a restaurant partner, I hopped on board. I was glad to have finally tried it. I didn't think the sandwich was anything special. (ordered the STP) I believe the bread is microwaved to melt the cheese because the bread was very tough and chewy. The meat to bread ratio was way off also. I had to tear most of the bread away. The roast beef was good and the bacon is real bacon bits which is a plus, but the turkey was flavorless. The famous formula 45 dip is basically thousand island dressing with maybe added dill. Their famous chips are flavorless also. Pretty basic meal, and nothing to rave about in my book. So now I know. The sandwiches are fantastic and the service is better! The Rueben is my favorite, try it with the herb slaw instead of kraut! It's mustard based and complements it perfectly. They also do a hybrid 1000 Island/ Russian dressing that's great on everything, called Formula 45- don't miss it! The pasta I salad is also mustard based with dill and it's a delight. The lady that owns the place and her sweet son make the experience so much better, you can tell they like what they serve and take pride in it. I will be back more often! read more

I have been seeing the sign for several weeks and was very glad they finally opened. This area could really use a great sandwich place. Unfortunately, Groucho's may not be what I was looking for. It was only a single visit, but a second visit is not guaranteed. The location is great with plenty of parking and easy access. It was a very comfortable interior where you seat yourself. Service was friendly and prompt. The menu is extensive with tons of options. That is where my positive points end. The food was just ok and not a good value. A $10 sandwich should be much bigger than a slider. The mustard marinated chicken (BLC) tasted good but the portion was terrible for the price. The chips were ok but nothing special. My coworker had pastrami which he said was good. I will end on a positive and say the salted caramel brownie was amazing. At least it ended on a high note. My total for a small sandwich, chips, soda, and brownie was $16.... I could see the sandwich, chips and drink more appropriately priced at $9-10, $13 seems too expensive for what you get. read more

I failed to open the bag until I got where I was going and - you guessed it - no bottle of water! Too much time & trouble to go back for it hence the poor review. Also the thousand island dressing I asked to be put on the sandwich was in the box in a separate container. I was given no utensils or even napkins so couldn't put it on myself. Overall issue, as many other reviews have stated, is portion size. Sandwiches are all bread, little meat. The protein portions are clearly measured by the ounce in prep. Management should consider increasing portion size or they're not going to make it. Maybe in 1941 those sandwiches were normal sized. Today, not so much. If a table service sandwich experience is what you're looking for, walk across the parking lot to Portofino's. You can get a monster steak and cheese, meatball parm, chicken parm, or any other sub of your choice (served with chips) for the same price that would be enough to feed two people easily. A short walk up the hill on Park Rd, you can have any number of hearty sandwiches at Pasta and Provisions for less, and not be forced into table service to boot. Management has a clear opportunity to fix this one glaring issue. They can stick to the script and maintain margin at the sake of volume (and likely a large lease break charge when they close), or they can just make the right choice and increase portion sizing with some promotion around it. read more
