We went with coleslaw and sweet potato fries, and apparently I was feeling particularly committed that night because I ate almost the entire thing myself. The brisket was good. The slaw was good. The sweet potato fries were good. The hushpuppies were good. See the pattern? For something called the Pig Out, I also found myself wishing the meat felt a little less like the precious commodity on the plate and, once again, the pulled pork mostly made me wish I had a pound of Lupita's sitting in front of me instead. Midwood Smokehouse isn't bad BBQ by any stretch. It just landed firmly in the "good" category for us when I was hoping for something memorable. Considering I used some relationship capital convincing her to abandon Mac's for the night, I don't think I'll be suggesting a return trip anytime soon. The delicate white fish was incredible with the carrot puree and pistachio topping (there's a fancier word for it but I don't remember) I just couldn't get over how good the 3 were together!
