The place was packed and it's obviously a local Favorite. My wife's meal looked amazing but my sandwich was missing lettuce and tomato for some reason. Should have been all of three ingredients but only got one and bread. Staff were friendly though a little scatterbrained and on the younger and untrained side. I was in the Columbia area and needed some lunch on the fly. Additionally, I was hoping for something healthier than many fast casual/quick options. Groucho's Deli to the rescue! Groucho's is a regional chain with most locations in South Carolina (and a couple in North Carolina and one in Georgia). That said, it all started in Columbia in 1941 with Harold "Groucho" Miller. I love the story that he dreamed up recipes during childhood living in the orphanage in Philadelphia, made his way to Columbia with those recipes and the rest if Groucho's Deli history. They serve up a wonderful variety of sandwiches and an impressive variety of salads as well. I opted for the chicken power salad, which consisted of a bed of crisp and fresh greens, feta, greek olives, cucumber, tomato, and sliced chicken breast marinated in their Italian dressing. It was exactly what I was looking for--filling, fresh, veggie filled fabulousness. I didn't dine in but got my salad delivered and it was well packaged and cool and fresh on arrival. After a day of walking through Congaree National Park I was craving a salad and searched yelp as my brother drove.. out of all the places I picked her and BAM!! Simple done wonderful! I had My Wife's Salad- it the spot perfectly! Added the pasta salad and it was great! He had a Greek type salad and loved it- so much chicken. The only thing we would both add is red onions. I really love the location and really should eat here much more than I do. They are right next to my dentist's office so I will at least come in twice a year. I don't know why I don't go more, because it's delicious. That 45 sauce is so good, I always get extra. I grew up eating Groucho's, mostly the five points location. I even played on their softball team one summer. My go to is the my wife's salad. I just make sure no cucumbers, and so far they've never let me down. We were driving through town and were looking for a quick bite to eat with lots of options for our family of 4 and my in-laws. This place is definitely family friendly. The staff was so nice and helpful as this was our first time visiting and it did take a minute to read over the menu. And I fully intended to take pictures of our food but when it came we all dug in so fast that it was gone by the time I remembered I meant to take a picture! But I highly recommend the BLC Chicken Critter. We also had 2 people order the mid east special. They have a few homemade sauces and they were surprisingly good. Staff & manger could not figure out how to add bacon strips and remove turkey from a sandwich; I've ordered the same sandwich many times with no issue. I went for lunch today and the waitress never returned after bringing drinks. I tried the app but it crashed while trying to order at the table. I was able to ask the runner if she could take our order. After about 1 hour we received cold food. My wife asked to speak with the manager Isaac and he told her she needed to find him someone to hire. The waitress that couldn't take the order chimed in and told her she could not do her job for 1 hour. I came back inside and asked for the owners contact and he told me to get lost. My husband and I have been here three times and every time they have gotten my husband's corned beef on rye wrong. The sandwiches are good but we will not be going back; today was the last straw. Came here for lunch and this location is probably the largest than all the others that I have visited. This is great. Once we were in, it's seat yourself. My friend and I came right on in and sat down. Our waitress came by and took our drink and then brought them out. We ordered immediately and then we waited. We waited some more and some more. We ordered salads. Then once we were done, I needed a box. Our waitress was nowhere to be found. The restaurant was packed at this time. So I grabbed my salad and drink and got in line. While in line, a cashier asked me if I needed a box, which I replied yes. She handed it to me with all the other stuff in my hand so once I got to the register to pay, I sat all of it down to use my card, picked it up with my receipt and move to an empty table to sign. My friend ordered a to-go order when we placed our orders and we had to wait 5 minutes for that to come out. Once that came out, she asked for an extra bag for me and then I put my salad in that. Then we left. It was a different experience to say the least but I will more than likely stop back by here again. read more

Update: I read the manager comment and need to clarify I'm not "upset" about the experience, but overall annoyed that it took so much effort to get my drinks remade. While he was correct in pointing out that the issue was "quickly resolved", I could have done without the arguments, sarcasm or mocking faces from the staff before the drinks were poured. I won't be going back to this location. Thanks Very rude staff, even after I tipped them for takeout. The soda machines had been serviced and the first sodas poured (mine and my sons) tasted like soda water, I'm assuming due to low syrup dispenser pressure after the service. After asking several times and having to ignore comments that an employee tasted the soda and it was "fine", I finally got my sodas remade and they tasted great. (Newsflash - employee said the soda was good AFTER the original sodas were made, so after the dispensers had caught up to normal pressure, but I didn't feel the need to argue or point that out. It was funny that even my nine year old could figure it out.) Getting two sodas remade after spending over $50 on sandwiches today shouldn't have been an argument, an opportunity to share their doubt with me (the manager said the soda machine settings were "normal") - it was two sodas, for heaven's sake.
