I am a very loyal customer to this place and come here often for coffee and am a pretty loyal customer. I took my friend here to show her how amazing it was and they kicked us out because they said we weren't wearing any shirts. We were both wearing crop tops but all cleavage was coverage. At first i thought she was kidding but she rudely told us we were not allowed to be inside because it was a family owned business. Now if we were wearing bikinis i could see how this would be an issue but we werent. Even so, a more appropriate response would be asking us to order online outside (we were trying leave after ordering). Customer service by the older lady was horrible. She told me I couldn't stay to eat the very expensive burrito I bought there because I had coffee from another place. Mind you the coffee did not have a logo. It was a clear cup. I asked if my burrito could be made with no cheese or onions. She said no. I had walked in the sun for 20 plus min to get there, visibly sweating and hot and she told me I had to leave. So rude. I will never ever be back. I initially left a five star review after my first time here but I feel so strongly about recent experiences that I had it formally removed (I've never done that on Yelp- didn't even know that it was an option and I've been an "elite" yelper for several years). I've been here quite a few times and their service/attitude and product are inconsistent. I live in the neighborhood and it's easy to stop in often. The beverage will taste different depending on the barista. The attitude with which you're served is also dependent on with whom it is you're speaking. My friend actually calls this the "mean cafe." I noticed they tend to use more to-go cups for "here" orders when it's the afternoon and they use ceramic in the mornings. This business practice makes it convenient to close up (less dishes to wash) but it's bad practice for the environment. The place also has poor ventilation so you end up smelling like grease even after just being inside for ten minutes. I've given it a good try and really wanted to like this place more given that it's a family business. But this area has a cute cafe nearly on every block with great coffee so I'd recommend going elsewhere. I have to say the drinks are really good. There is an older lady who works there pretty sure it's the owner too, that is really rude and not welcoming at all. I was holding the door open for my friend to come out and she yelled out for me to close it in front of everyone . And that's just one of the things she did. And from past reviews I have viewed I won't be surprised if people stop showing up to the coffee shop. One thing is you being an owner and another thing is being a bitter person. When I visited I waited outside with our dog as to be respectful while my husband went inside. The server (I'm guessing) came outside and snapped at me for having tables pushed together. It was just me and my dog... I didn't push them together. I had sat down about 3 seconds before. I then watched her snap at another lady with a small dog because the dog looked at her. I'm not exaggerating. She told her to "get control of her dog!" It was a huge over exaggeration. I saw the lady get offended then leave. Very COVID friendly, observing all the social distancing and mask protocols. The staff greeted us and was super friendly, which is important to us. Our drinks came out super quick for how complicated they were. I got the Orange Cardamom latte w/ oat milk and it was amazing. The orange is the perfect compliment to the cardamom spice and the whole drink really works together well. My wife got the Rose Matcha latte with almond milk, which came out like a work of art with two-tone layers of pink rose and green matcha adorned with edible rose petals on the top. We were very happy with both our drinks with taste, temperature, and the speedy/friendly service. The only thing I didn't like was a full $1 up-charge for alternative milks. The drinks were already hovering around $5.75 without that, so with the both of us that was $2 extra to the total, so $13.65 for 2 coffee drinks. That's high for me. A friend recommended Ground Hideout as a meetup space in Long Beach, and I was charmed by the stylish interior as soon as I entered. They offer your standard coffee/espresso menu, but they also have a food menu (and I'm pretty sure if I return, I will try one of their breakfast sandwiches). Ground hideout is one of my favorite coffee shops in Long Beach because not only does it have amazing coffee, it also has great breakfast options as well! The coffee is always well balanced and flavorful. My favorite is the orange cardamom latte which is wonderful either hot or iced. I've never had a bad coffee drink here! My favorite breakfast are the avocado toast or the sunrise sandwich. They have the best avocado toast around, hands down! Get an egg on it. Perfection. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place we love that's a nice walk from home with good coffee. We weren't expecting to eat, but im glad we decided to. We shared the Caprese melt and it was delicious and came out quick. I had the Chagacinno and he had a drip coffee. The coffee shops directly near us don't have our full approval so I'm glad we found this one that gives us a nice morning walk and really good coffee! He can be very picky when it comes to his drip coffee whereas I don't drink drip coffee but I do love a diverse menu and appreciate healthy alternatives and ingredients, which this place has. I have always wanted to delve into mushroom coffee and this was my first time trying it and it was amazing. I am excited to keep trying the other ones! I picked up mid-afternoon for the long drive back home and I didn't experience a crash, instead a boost of sustained energy that didn't interrupt my early bedtime. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Coffee house with friendly staff and relaxed vibes. I've passed by this place many times over the years, but have never had a coffee there until just recently (both times on the way to/from jury duty). So far, I've tried a latte with whole milk, and a latte with oat milk and they were both great. On the second occasion I got to hang out there and chill inside for a while, and since it was early morning I had the place to myself, which was nice. Close to downtown LBC in the East Village Arts district side of town is this cute little coffee shop that does big things. Ground Hideout makes really good use of its space to offer seating and a cozy, casual, relaxed and somewhat romantic atmosphere. They have a really great selection of coffees but really stand out with their attention to detail and quality of coffee, cappucini and cafe lattes. They have a wonderful selection of pastries and food as well. I ordered a hazelnut cafe latte and a brioche breakfast sandwich and it was amazingly good. The food is on another level, not the prepacked and nuked food of some corporate coffee spots. This is really great food so it might take a minute to prepate, but its well worth it. The almond croissant is so good with coffee. Sit and enjoy your time there between sips, read a book, or talk with a friend. Don't be in a rush or you will miss the point.
