First time at Ground hideout! To be honest, it's a little uppity. I get that the hipster vibe is a thing, and I think I look for homey when it comes to a coffee spot! That's just me though, definitely not a diss on the place. (I'm also a queer POC woman just fyi lmao) This spot is nice, clean and has strong WiFi! The drinks are good! I got an iced tea and my partner got a latte, which we both enjoyed. They have a small seating area inside with outlets, and seating outside as well but with no outlets! The baristas are nice and accommodated our no bacon in the burrito. I probably wouldn't come here again, but only because Long Beach has so many amazing coffee shop options! read more

A 5-star spot for coffee. Ambience is so nice with decorative and clean interior that offers a calm atmosphere. A great place to chat with a friend. It's a small shop, so seating may be limited. Definitely high quality coffee, not too strong, not too sweet with the perfect in-between balance. I went with: VANILLA CLOUD BREW (5/5): Lightly sweetened, not overly bitter, and has a subtle bold taste to it. The foam is dense and adds a nice creamy essence to the drink. BARBIE LATTE (5/5): This one was seasonal, and to be quite honest, I was very enticed. It's a strawberry latte with pink strawberry foam (which can be substituted for a matcha latte). Definitely taste the strawberry and it is the right amount of sweetness. It's a nice stop for a day in DTLB, and the area is more calm and perfect for an afternoon stroll. read more

I originally came here to try their Barbie Latte, but they ran out of the ingredients so I settled for an iced Vanilla Latte. It was good! The breakfast burrito was also good, but could have been better. All the cheese was at the bottom and it was a bit dry. The service was also good. One of the baristas was a bit cold, but the one who attended us answered all our questions and provided alternatives to the drinks they didn't have available. Good WiFi tho! Didn't have any issues. I came into a Ground Hideout Coffee to grab a quick latte. They were offering Barbie themed coffee, so I said "why not?!" to be honest it wasn't very great but my friend ordered a regular iced vanilla latte and it was actually pretty delicious. I've never been to this location before and have never heard about it, but it is around the corner from one of the places that I get lunch often. The inside is pretty small, but you can get pretty cozy in the corner on some couches or you can sit outside on a cute summer day to enjoy it. The service is great. I had no issues. The coffee itself is decent, but the way she treats customers is shocking. She's incredibly rude, dismissive, and seems to have no patience for simple questions or requests. I believe that good service is just as important as good coffee, and sadly, this place fails in that regard. There are plenty of other coffee spots nearby with friendly staff who actually appreciate their customers--I'll be taking my business elsewhere. We just couldn't pass up this cute little coffee shop. There are a few tables which line up against the window with seatings on the window ledge. Pillows make it super cozy. And supporting any small business brings us joy. So we stopped in and grabbed a latte, straight up. wow, great coffee. They source their coffee beans from Verve (out of Santa Cruz). What a good tasting coffee. Due to the recent rise in covid-19 cases, we had our coffee to go. What a cool lid - a pentagon-shaped bowl to prevent any spills. This lid impresses me. It goes to show how important choosing products for your business is. Maybe next time we will enjoy our lattes there and grab a snack. They do have some pastries and egg plates on the menu. Be safe. I'm all about supporting small businesses, however this coffee shop will not be one of them. A $5. cup of coffee with attitude, and guess what it came from the owner. Had I known there was another coffee cafe just a few feet away I would've walked over. I turned the corner parked directly across from the spot. A small line was in front of me, so I decided to use the restroom first, specifically to wash my hands. The owner wouldn't provide the code until I bought something. Very COVID friendly, observing all the social distancing and mask protocols. The staff greeted us and was super friendly, which is important to us. Our drinks came out super quick for how complicated they were. I got the Orange Cardamom latte w/ oat milk and it was amazing. The orange is the perfect compliment to the cardamom spice and the whole drink really works together well. My wife got the Rose Matcha latte with almond milk, which came out like a work of art with two-tone layers of pink rose and green matcha adorned with edible rose petals on the top. We were very happy with both our drinks with taste, temperature, and the speedy/friendly service. The only thing I didn't like was a full $1 up-charge for alternative milks. The drinks were already hovering around $5.75 without that, so with the both of us that was $2 extra to the total, so $13.65 for 2 coffee drinks. That's high for me. Not like like we got food or pastries or anything. It is downtown rent, so I get it, but the full $1 just kinda irked us. read more

I initially left a five star review after my first time here but I feel so strongly about recent experiences that I had it formally removed (I've never done that on Yelp- didn't even know that it was an option and I've been an "elite" yelper for several years). I've been here quite a few times and their service/attitude and product are inconsistent. I live in the neighborhood and it's easy to stop in often. The beverage will taste different depending on the barista. The attitude with which you're served is also dependent on with whom it is you're speaking. My friend actually calls this the "mean cafe." I noticed they tend to use more to-go cups for "here" orders when it's the afternoon and they use ceramic in the mornings. This business practice makes it convenient to close up (less dishes to wash) but it's bad practice for the environment. The place also has poor ventilation so you end up smelling like grease even after just being inside for ten minutes. I've given it a good try and really wanted to like this place more given that it's a family business. But this area has a cute cafe nearly on every block with great coffee so I'd recommend going elsewhere. Idk I went to meetup with coworker for a workday who had already been there for an hour or so. When I arrived I needed to use the bathroom and asked for the code and the lady was pretty rude. She wouldn't let me use the restroom until I purchased something. I would have obviously bought something but to not let me use the restroom first seemed a little dramatic. i wanted to like this place but i will never come back. so trash the cashier said the drink i picked wasn't too sweet but it ended up being extremely sweet. I wanted to switch out the drink after spending $50+ here with breakfast I figured it wouldn't be an issue. All i asked for was a simple drink change and I was told no because they can't please everyone. I have never been to a coffee shop that doesn't change your drink if you are displeased with the way it was made. Such a simple request turned into a hostile issue that didn't even need to happen. Recreational Coffee is super close by and is super welcoming and friendly and will change your drink if it's not made to your liking. Take your business elsewhere. This place needs to learn how to treat their customers. All the 1 star reviews have the same conclusion the people who run this place are rude and lack customer service skills. As you can see on ig the mango matcha LATTE looks like a latte & ANDREA the lady whose photo is on here (she's literally so rude another yelp reviewer posted a photo of andrea on here LOL) anyways. she claimed it's not a latte it's supposed to be all foam it basically tastes like mango foam no matcha at all in my photo you can see it's just foam no matcha. fumbling as a small business losing local customers. and on top of all of that my boyfriend wanted to make sure i was happy so he PURCHASED another drink on top of not being able to get a new drink on the house so basically didn't even get a refund we paid for the replacement drink. I am a very loyal customer to this place and come here often for coffee and am a pretty loyal customer. I took my friend here to show her how amazing it was and they kicked us out because they said we weren't wearing any shirts. We were both wearing crop tops but all cleavage was coverage. At first i thought she was kidding but she rudely told us we were not allowed to be inside because it was a family owned business. Now if we were wearing bikinis i could see how this would be an issue but we werent. Even so, a more appropriate response would be asking us to order online outside (we were trying leave after ordering). I have to say the drinks are really good. There is an older lady who works there pretty sure it's the owner too, that is really rude and not welcoming at all. I was holding the door open for my friend to come out and she yelled out for me to close it in front of everyone . And that's just one of the things she did. And from past reviews I have viewed I won't be surprised if people stop showing up to the coffee shop. One thing is you being an owner and another thing is being a bitter person. When I visited I waited outside with our dog as to be respectful while my husband went inside. The server (I'm guessing) came outside and snapped at me for having tables pushed together. A friend recommended Ground Hideout as a meetup space in Long Beach, and I was charmed by the stylish interior as soon as I entered. They offer your standard coffee/espresso menu, but they also have a food menu (and I'm pretty sure if I return, I will try one of their breakfast sandwiches). I ordered an iced orange cardamom latte, and the bits of orange zest gave it a fun citrus kick. Ground hideout is one of my favorite coffee shops in Long Beach because not only does it have amazing coffee, it also has great breakfast options as well! The coffee is always well balanced and flavorful. My favorite is the orange cardamom latte which is wonderful either hot or iced. I've never had a bad coffee drink here! My favorite breakfast are the avocado toast or the sunrise sandwich. They have the best avocado toast around, hands down! Get an egg on it. Perfection. Their newest menu item, the sunrise sandwich, is also probably my favorite breakfast sandwich around. A little sweet, a little salty, a little spicy - it's mouthwatering!
