I'm actually not a coffee drinker myself, but I had friends visiting and wanted to try some local coffee shops. Grounded coffee was one that we hit, loved how airy and bright it was? The decor is great. Whether you're trying to have a conversation and chat trying to get some work done. I'm definitely going to be coming back We all ordered something to eat as well as something to drink. Favorite service was wonderful
I wanted to try local coffee shops in the area and this shop popped up. Unfortunately I wasn't able to enjoy a drink inside, so I ordered drinks to go. The place was homey with plenty of seating. I was expecting to pick up my drinks at the counter but the staff brought all the drinks to me and all packed up. The Florist had the perfect ratio of coffee, lavender, and honey. The temperature could have been served hotter. It was however safe to consume immediately without burning yourself. I would like to come back again and try other drinks.
Weird little coffee shop. When we pulled into the parking lot, we thought we had the wrong address. It is located in a medical building and once we found the entrance, we were impressed by the ample parking and by the super clean interior of the shop. One thing that we immediately noticed: this place was almost overly quiet. There were lots of people working and even with the bits of noise contributed by them, it just felt too quiet. The music definitely could have been turned up a few notches. Otherwise, the atmosphere is great. I loved my coffee, I got "The Pumpkin" and really enjoyed their homemade pumpkin syrup. Food, on the other hand, was super lacking. We both ordered something: my friend got the breakfast sandwich and I got the tacos. Both were served cold and very bland. We would not order food again here.
Okay first the pros I really love the variety of coffee offered, especially for the seasonal drinks. We tried the dirty luck and the pick me up they were both very very good. Even though that kind of took over the pick me up it was still a good iced coffee That chocolate mint cake tasted amazing, and was very moist when they warmed it up The staff are super sweet and the decor inside is beautiful. They have Wi-Fi and would be a great study spot for any of the local college kids or even a mom looking to read a book quietly lol From the outside, you can't tell this is actually a coffee spot it blends in with the medical building maybe if they put some sort of Decour outside it would help The prices are a little high for amount served in my opinion The other thing that they could improve on is packaging I really enjoyed the cake I tried however, it was very tricky to eat. They should have wrapped it in wax paper or maybe put it in a plastic container. It stuck to the bag and I had chocolate everywhere lol. But the flavor made up for the mess Overall definitely worth a stop
I finally checked out Grounded Coffee recently. It's a cute little shop located on the bottom floor of an office building. It has a nice, calming vibe with neutral tones. There is a mix of tables and chairs, with two couch seating areas and one large communal table for meetings. My favorite spot was the couch in the front with a gorgeous driftwood-like coffee table. Super cozy. There are also power bars that line the main wall, so great for teleworking! I had one of their seasonal drinks, the eggnog latte. I love eggnog, so this was great with the right amount of spice. I also ordered the chocolate croissant that they had in their case, which is sourced from Indulge Bakery in Hilton Village in NN. The croissant was pretty good too. I'll have to pass by the bakery on another visit to the peninsula. Being located in an office building, I thought the place would be bustling with people, but it was pretty quiet, so this made the perfect teleworking spot for me. The staff there were friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back to work there if I find myself on that side! I've also heard that their food was decent, so I'll be sure to try some on future visits and I'll report back. Stay safe, Friends!
After charging at Patrick Henry, I wanted to grab a tea latte. This should've been an obvious find, but I went round and round before catching this. It's attached to a medical office and you can't see it until you're on it. Stepping inside, it's a chic, modern shop that looks like it fell out of Pottery Barn's younger decor shop. Clean, airy, and cozy seating. I got a London fog and we all picked out pastries. I forgot to ask for oat milk, so the latte was a bit off for me. Totally my fault and I'd go back to get it right and try it out. The pastries were delightful! Even the little one kept chowing down. This is a much needed coffee shop in the area, so I'm glad it seems to have a good following. Will try it again when in the area.
I was struggling with acid reflux and needed a bite. Grounded Coffee fulfilled this need! Avo Toast was sooooo delicious and totally worth the nearly $8. They have such unique coffee drinks (see photo), except the first sip was so sweet and then you don't taste much of the settle flavors due to the over powering notes of the espresso. Lots of parking. The shop is located at the Costal Virginia surgery center. Thankfully, I decided to try this shop on a Saturday because it took 20 minutes...
Pretty cool place! The service was great! The staff showed me their coffee specials, and they had all kinds of goodies in the display case. The carrot cake muffins were amazing! They were moist, and wait for it - gluten-free!!! The Brekkie bagel sandwich I had was decent. It had cheese, egg, bacon, and this tomato spreadMy latte was delicious and oh so pretty! They have lots of tables, chairs, lounge areas - it could definitely be a great place to meet up with friends, grab some java, and hang out.
First time at this coffee shop and loved the environment. I was interested in the London Fog and the Florist, but ended up getting the Northerner. It was a latte with house-smoked maple syrup and crushed butterscotch. I wish that the maple syrup and/or the crushed butterscotch flavors were stronger. Thus I couldn't say I 100% enjoyed my drink BUT I did hear many other customers enjoying their coffee so maybe the Northerner wasn't my cup of tea (coffee). I went on a snow day so the kitchen was unfortunately closed. I nevertheless got to try the nutella croissant and that was pretty solid! Overall, great vibes and aesthetics! The place was big enough for hangouts, studying, and dates. They had some cute couches but also high top benches with lots of outlets around. Lots of parking around as well!!
What a great find. I was in this side of the water for a race weekend at the coliseum and woke up jonesing got coffee bad. I love to find local coffee shops so I drove a bit out of my way but it was so well worth it. I got here just a bit before closing and snagged a drink special - the beekeeper. It's a simple latte with cinnamon and honey added. I did oat milk and loved it. I needed it to be 3x bigger. Ha. I wanted a snack before dinner and they have cookies, crumbles, cinnamon buns, and other pastries as well as a nice sized menu with food options like oatmeal, tacos, avo toast and more. Loved the boho vibes inside with beautiful comfy warm leather couches and a pop of pink with wooden tables and lots of natural light from the floor to ceiling windows. There are also a few patio tables out front to sit outside if you'd like. They also sell Three Ships Coffee and tea from VaB as well as some cute themed merch. Free wifi too. A gem! Note on parking: GPS brought me around a weird way and I parallel parked and walked over - but you can easily find parking here right in front of the shop if you pull into the complex (it looks like a school). No need to park and walk like I did. There are tons of spots.

Enjoyed my visit with friends here today. The tea set-up is beautiful when you order tea. You can have honey or milk for your tea as well and just makes for a lovely tea experience. A few friends had coffee and enjoyed their drinks! Service was kind and friendly. Inside is beautiful and has different seating areas including long tables for groups, comfortable chairs and a couch sitting area. read more
I really liked this cute little coffee shop! I ordered an iced latte with vanilla and cinnamon and then also got a chicken, bacon, ranch sandwich. Both were great! My total with tip came out to be around $24 so a little pricey but delicious! The atmosphere is perfect for studying or getting some work done. Plenty of outlet plugs and tables. Came here for the first time this week to grab a coffee and get some work done. I got a seasonal drink called the florist -- I'll say the drink size was pretty small for the cost, but was tasty, although very sweet. I also had an apple cinnamon bread, which was just alright. There were two girls working - one working very hard and the other working very hard on her phone ... I stood 5 feet from her at the register waiting to order for at least a minute without being acknowledged. Otherwise, cute vibes, lots of seating. Fast WiFi. Good place to do some work. Not sure I'll make my way back here, but glad I tried it. read more

Grounded Coffee is one of my new favorite remote work locations -- nice open space with sort of a country/Native American vibe in terms of decor. Free wifi works great, staff is super friendly, and they have gender neutral bathrooms! It's right off City Center drive, and there is plenty of parking since it's in a large medical office complex. And - of utmost importance - the music selection here is conducive to chill/relaxed thinking. In terms of offerings, I'm more of a tea person than a coffee person, and in that department, they don't do great -- it's just a selection of tea bags, which is fine, but they're not loose leaf. But the food options make up for it - the avocado toast is AMAZING, the roast beef DIVINE. Breakfast pastries I've tried have been lovely - especially the blueberry crumble. You can get an egg and cheese on a croissant or a bagel and it's pretty standard (comes with an aioli - I didn't know that and it's not listed on the menu, so if you're not a fan like me - make sure to ask them to hold that). Overall, this is a great addition to the Newport News coffee shop scene! read more

I visited Grounded Coffee for a quick caffeine fix and a bite to eat. What I really liked was its modern aesthetic. I haven't seen many places like it in Newport News. It seems this coffee shop is a calm workspace as many other patrons were working on their laptops. The baristas were very friendly and welcoming! I'm not that into coffee but it looks like that gave a decent selection of coffee options. I had the chicken salad sandwich. I thought pretty solid sandwich served on a croissant. I can't really say the same for the iced matcha latte I ordered. I could barely taste any matcha, idk if it was just mostly milk or diluted since it was iced, but it was not like any matcha I've had in Richmond Va for example. Overall, I had a good experience. Maybe my matcha order was a one time thing so I'd consider visiting again and order a different drink. read more
Great location, attached to the medical center. The atmosphere is also very inviting, I like the artwork on the walls. But this was just not a great drink. I asked for an iced chai latte. It took about 8 minutes to get it, since the tea had to steep. But the drink I got looked and tasted like cold skim milk with a tiny hint of ginger and nutmeg. I drank most of it, but I was not thrilled with the quality. read more
UPDATE MAY, 2022: I was in between appointments, so I had time to stop for a late lunch. This was a bacon turkey sandwich (and yes, half was already eaten before I took the photo) which was just great, basic house coffee which was just right, but I got the biggest kick out of the Cheetos which added a different taste and texture to the mix. I'm glad to see this coffee shop is busy, and adding something extra (and maybe unexpected) will bring people like me back for more. read more

If there is a new coffee shop in Newport News, I am going to go. Grounded is a minimalist coffee shop with similar vibes to another shop in the area, honestly, very similar. I like that the options are straightforward and no frills. I opted for a lavender latter which was super yum but honestly the smallest sized latte I ever had in my life. read more

OOoo found myself a new hidden gem! I am finally back in my hometown and a lot has changed since I have been gone! Through word of mouth I was told to take note that this place had some awesome java, and they were right! You can find Grounded coffee located off Jefferson Avenue and City center road (which is a new road and was not there when I moved...so I would have never visited if no one had mentioned this place ) I was frantically in a hurry, BUT as most people...they will stop for a java not caring if they need to be somewhere on time...(I was 15 min early...so I am not one of those people) Anyways! Walking into Grounded coffee gave me a great first impression. It had a modern, elegant, touch of boho decor....and unlike most coffee places...It had quite the square footage. It did not give that claustrophobic feeling...which was nice! Service was great. I have NEVER been here before and although I was in a rush the ladies working there were more than willing to recommend some items. Now for the best part! THE JAVA! My whole perspective on how a coffee should be made has just been shifted. Literally...no more pumpkin spice for me. Wanna know why!? I ordered the "Pick-me-up" which as described "its a shaken double espresso with blueberry lemon zest, and a splash of oatmilk"...wait what? Did you say lemon in my coffee? Who thinks of putting lemon in coffee to flavor it? (I heard a pastor actually has a hidden talent for creating things on their menu) He is a genius if that is the case. I cannot rave more about this cup of coffee! I took one sip and now I feel I can't ever go back...As long as this is on the menu...I will order it. The blueberry is poppin but the lemon is what makes it! Surprisingly, the pieces of zest compliments it really well...to get those tiny bits are quite satisfying. Don't knock it til you try it! They do have some other specials on their menu I would like to try out. Looking forward to trying all of them! Ha! I feel that Grounded has decent prices, and my coffee was delicious. This place was clean, quiet, and relaxing. If you need some you time...or quiet time to work on something...this place is perfect. I highly recommend if you live in the area that you try this place at least once, and if you are in the area...try it. However, I do have one minor thing...about the coffee...The SIZE. I would like to have the option to get this coffee in a much larger size. read more

The location of the cafe Is right near a hospital, so you can't miss it. The outside of the buildings is see through and mostly glass, so you are able to see inside and vise versa- a very natural lighted cafe. When walking in, the celling of the cafe feels very spacious. The decor and furniture is like a boho style I would say, which I personally love. The service is great, very sweet and fast with making your drinks. Unfortunately, I do have a con with this cafe thought. The drink size is very small.. I wish there was an option of 16oz-20oz for someone who loves coffee. Don't get me wrong, the coffee here is amazing, but paying $6 for a iced coffee that is only around 10 ounces (I believe) of coffee... I don't think that is worth the price. Overall though it isn't bad at all, BUT I wished there was more options with the serving sizes for the drinks. read more
This coffee shop is in a good location and has a great set up, nice aesthetics, and lots of seating and outlets. I was excited to try it after hearing good reviews from friends. However, I've been twice and did not care for either of my drinks (a northerner and a pick-me-up). The milk overpowered the espresso in both drinks, the smoked flavor of the northerner latte was not appealing, and I didn't taste blueberry or lime in the pick-me-up. read more

First time here and the coffee was super delicious! The atmosphere was very clean relaxing and spacious. Almost everyone had on a mask. All of the staff had on mask. "The Sandwich" was very good and was more than I could eat. I had to take half to go. The parking was convenient and the service was pretty quick. I will be returning read more
