I love Groundwork Coffee but just recently found out this Venice location was their first! Their first Yelp review was nearly 20 years ago...that is wild and so telling of how great Groundwork is. When it opened, it was the first organic coffee shop in LA and now they have like 10 locations around town - very cool to see local places expand when they are great. Kindness is one of the pillars of Groundwork Coffee and I wholeheartedly dig that because it's one of mine, as well. Now good feelings aside, they also do have very solid teas, coffees, and matchas - I've had 'em all, plus tons of pastries. I'm always having their Nitro cold brew, dirty chais and most importantly, their shroomworks coffee! Foodwise, my go to is usually the Burrito Bite! It's exactly as it says - a tiny burrito filled with scrambled eggs, avocado, cheddar cheese, house made pico de gallo, & chipotle aioli. I'm obsessed with this and it's the perfect breakfast size for me. Groundwork Coffee is one of my favorite Los Angeles coffee shop chains and I will absolutely be coming to this location + all the others in the future! read more

Rating: 3.5/5 Stumbled across this place while walking around the boardwalk and got a 16 oz iced vanilla latte with regular milk for around $7. The latte was ok and I didn't really taste the vanilla, but it did its job for my caffeine fix! As for the service, it was great. There was one worker and he was super sweet taking our orders + making them. When you go, just know it's a small space, so don't expect to sit down and drink your coffee inside. Depending on how busy it is or how many workers, you can expect to wait a bit but it's not that long of a wait. read more

Let me start by saying, I've lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years. I don't go here often so no real loss for Groundwork. I go here once in a while because it's close to my house. This is the second time I ordered a dirty chai latte. The first time it was pretty good. This morning is was not. All I got was a regular latte with cinnamon. Whole Foods makes a much better dirty chai. I guess I just need to stick to my regular drip black coffee, which I will get at Flake right down the street. The staff doesn't know anything about the food items they sell and when I ask specific questions, they make up answers instead of asking the kitchen or a manager for the correct information. This has happened to me more than once. They have no interest in providing good customer service but they expect a tip for doing nothing more than taking your coffee order. They don't ask if you want your cold pastry heated. They don't offer sleeves for hot coffee. I shared my concerns with a manager but he wasn't interested in training the young staff about how to provide good service. With a coffeehouse on every corner, they need to up their game. "Super chill" seems like code for lousy service. I expect more for my $6.00 latte than indifference. read more

Nice and warm setup is what you will immediately feel when you look at the shop from outside. It was raining on the day I went. It looked even more beautiful and cozy because of the rain. The setup inside was also warm and rustic. Ordered the spice chai, it tasted fresh and aromatic. Not too sweet, the service was Ok and the guy serving me seemed to be a little distracted and not paying attention. May be it is a one off day but that is how I felt. Nevertheless, will visit again if I am around the area to try out different drinks that they have. There were few tables if you wanted to hang out and study, work. Never ordering from here ever again ! My coworkers and I decided to order some coffee and food from this place to have a nice" pick me up " but they missed an order and were very inconvenient on the situation. First off my coworkers order 3 drinks and 2 food IT ONLY CAME WITH 2 drinks and 2 food ! So my friend tried to call the place but every time was giving an "not in service tone" and so then we ended up calling the 3rd party which was Chownow ( even the customer service rep at Chownow couldn't get ahold of them!) so I myself went ahead and gave them a call and finally it went through . I told them about the situation and they told me that " you can either come and pick it up or we can refund you" I asked " since it was your guys fault that I'm missing an order can't you guys just walk it to us ? We are literally a 2 -5 min walk from you guys " and so she goes " no I'm sorry we can't do that it has to be a third party " it's a inconvenience for us to even think about just going over there to pick up the order that THEY made that mistake on . So at the end of everything I just told to give the refund . Never again I would order from this place again . Maybe better in person but never having it delivered read more

I've been to 3 Groundwork Coffee locations now and the great coffee, friendly service and cool locations are consistent across the board! This was a quick energy stop so I just had a drip coffee & banana cookie. I didn't note the beans but the coffee was very good and the cookie was fresh & tasty :) Can't wait to come back for a longer visit, it will be a nice place to get some work done. I had no problem finding street parking and wish I had time to enjoy the large patio area, next time. One of the things I like about Groundwork are their use of older existing buildings. Preface: I only order black coffee. It's great coffee. I like the medium and dark roasts here. Excellent breakfast burrito. It contends in the top tier (in my opinion) for LA breakfast burritos. Loved this place!! We stayed at an Airbnb 2 blocks from the coffee place so I walked there every morning early, mid day and my afternoon coffee. Their baked goods are incredible and fresh. This is easily my favorite coffee shop in Venice. The few times I have stopped by have been nothing short of great experiences. I'm a huge fan of the Horchata cold brew, even in the cold months. I stumbled upon this location of Groundwork Coffee and thought I gave it a quick stop after dinner to pick up a fresh batch of coffee beans. A library of fascinating mixes, stashed on the cabinet, colour-coded in a pleasing arrangement, makes you wonder how long it would take to capture all those flavours with my coffee palate. My go-to is the Black Gold signature blend. Groundwork is known for exceptionally high-quality organic beans, and this mix has that rich, smoothness with a slight hint of dark chocolate. Forgetting that my purchase came with a drink, I saved the Horchata Cold brew for the morning commute, and woah did I not regret picking it. Flavorful that kept me sipping on it throughout the day, the coffee. Down to earth with some seating and WiFi, this place is a fitting neighbourhood house nested comfortably the Venice beach atmosphere. I met up with a coworker at Groundwork to get some work done alongside lunch. Social distancing was encourage inside the cafe when you order. You get to pick up your drinks right after you order while the food comes later to your table. The cafe offers only outdoor seating. They have a lovely space outside for customers to enjoy their food and drinks with a splash of LA beach air and sun. I have visited the cafe before but never tried their food until now and WOWEE was I missing out!! My friend and I ordered the bitches brew hash and breakfast tacos. Hers looked amazingly good and mine was basically the best breakfast tacos I've had. Everything tasted freshly made and the sauces were to die for. We paired our lunch with hot matcha lattes with a drizzle of honey (not pictured), which was what we needed to battle the chilly Venice air. Apart from that, they did also have an awesome playlist on if you're into old school Beyoncé. We had a great time working and eating at Groundwork. The crew there were extremely helpful and friendly.
