This was my fourth visit to Tartine (Venice location) solely for this toast. It's delicious and their coffee is also great. Ambiance is nice but they do not have public wifi (relevant if you're wanting to stop in and do some work while you eat). Highly recommend and can't wait for visit #5!! read more

This is very close to my house so I thought I'd give it a try. It is very spacious and clean inside with a lot of seating. There is also plenty of seating outside. I immediately saw they had a small lemon tart which I then felt like I couldn't live without. I ordered that and a cup of coffee. The tart was delicious but I thought that $11.50 was a bit high for it. You order at a counter and the service was friendly. I'm a Tartine fan ever since I lived in San Francisco a decade ago. I like this location because of its convenience and accessibility. The outside seating area is nice, but can get noisy due to its proximity to Lincoln Blvd. The service was fast and the line much shorter than at their Santa Monica location. Had the opportunity to try the recently opened Tartine this morning. Was disappointed they didn't have French Toast (explanation: no bread???) but tried the croissant, soft scramble, and avocado tartine, as well as a latte. The premises was nice and open with some outdoor seating. The food is consistently great, the coffee strong, and the staff are nice and welcoming. Inside seating is great here although I wish there was wifi for those of us who work from home. Still - love coming here and I actually prefer this location to the Santa Monica spot which is beautiful but crowded. They have free underground parking for the building as well as metered street parking out front. I wish though, that they would have kept the wifi that was apparently briefly up after the LA fires. Who's that Latino guy that looks miserable at 7am working his shift at Tartine? .Usually stop by when I have an early day at the office and get my usual. Nearly every time I've been there there is this cranky unfriendly Latino guy that works in the A.M shift who like magic happens to be there. Today was no different. He doesn't greet (great for business) at all and looks annoyed as if you're bothering him. He was there with 2 other employees and had his back to the entrance while he was talking and the othetwo employees facing the door made eye contact but continued to talk as if wasn't there. Yes they all heard me come in. I said "Hello? He turned and rolled his eyes and ..."What do you want?" Umm maybe a better attitude. I've worked in the service industry so I'm no stranger but how one treats you at an establishment is how you will always view it. Sure their croissants are the best and 2 pastries and coffee type drink always comes to $30 but I do expect anyone working the service industry to be polite. This bakery location feels so disconnected when it comes to service. I frequent the Adams location and completely different vibe. Employee at that location are friendlier. It's good! Just expensive as all hell. The food is good, however not worth the price. But if you can afford the price, go ahead and get the food. I do love their seasonal veggie quiche and wide variety of pastries, all well-made and delicious. And of course, the loaves of bread are absolutely amazing. The line is always out the door, but do take advantage of their online ordering in advance. There is a paid parking lot and meter street parking. The space is really cute for meeting folks for coffee, dining in, reading a book, do a little work. It can get loud inside the acoustics are not the best but the outside garden area stays pretty calm. Tartine is a little expensive but still a very nice place to have a coffee, pastry, or lunch meal. There are 2 locations in Santa Monica. I now prefer the newest location on Lincoln Blvd. It has indoor and outdoor seating (umbrellas to shield from sun). This Tartine location is smaller than the one on 20th & Arizona which is really an interesting place since in a former life it was a funeral home (a service for Ronald Reagan was held there). The Arizona Ave Tartine has lots of character and ample outdoor seating including picnic benches; the Lincoln Blvd Tartine is more modern and contemporary with a somewhat minimalist vibe. I believe that the Arizona Ave kitchen closes at 2 PM? I like both locations, just depends on which side of town you're on at the moment. read more

I've been to this location in the past. And didn't really have any issues. Drinks & food are on the pricer side, but that's to be expected. However, today wasn't a great experience. I'm writing this review to warn others to not order food items from the huge (chalkboard looking) menus above the pastry cases. But instead, take a look at the paper menus because they have a lot more detail regarding the items - details that are missing on the bigger menu boards. For example. I wanted a simple ham and cheese sandwich that was listed on the big board. But what I received was a sandwich with tomato- peppers - pickles not sure what else. It was definitely spicy and not at all what I wanted. I expressed my concern with the server and let her know that I ordered from the board thinking I was getting a simple ham and cheese sandwich and she made it clear that "No I should've read the paper menu" which sadly I didn't even see. It just felt shitty. Paying for a $20 sandwich that was definitely not what I thought I ordered. I've been in customer service a long time and I've done my share of food service jobs. It would've been exceptional If the server made it right instead of making me feel bad For not reading the details of the menu that I didn't even see. read more

Tartine's Banana Cream Pie has always been my favorite. I used to live near the original bakery in San Francisco and was a frequent patron. When I found out they were opening a location in my new neighborhood, I was so excited. Unfortunately, the pie at this location is not the same. The crust is not as flaky as I remember, and the bananas are too mushy. It almost seems like they might be serving pies that have been sitting for a while, possibly due to lower foot traffic. I'm not gonna tell you about their famous Porridge Bread because then you'll buy it up and I won't get any. Okay, I'll tell you a secret: If they're out of their Porridge Bread at Tartine, they may still have it at the Ehrwhon Market, a "hop, skip and a jump" away.
