One of my favorite cafés in Marina del Rey! Fratelli Café is in such a great location -- literally a 5-minute walk from the beach, making it the perfect place to stop for coffee and breakfast. Sivan deserves a special shoutout because she is the heart of the place! She has the BEST energy, is incredibly welcoming and friendly, and makes you feel taken care of from the second you walk in. She's also super helpful when you're trying to decide what to order and is always happy to give her opinion on the food and coffee. (Did i also mention-she makes all syrups in house daily) The tofu scramble was delicious, especially with an over-medium egg added on top. Their white mocha latte was also amazing. Nah, skip. Been trying to find another breakfast spot, especially one that had biscuits and gravy on the menu. I was excited to see that this place had a biscuits and gravy and one with fried chicken bits nonetheless, but I guess they... lied? My biscuits and gravy came without fried chicken bits. Unless by "bits of fried chicken gravy" they meant fried chicken emulsified into a gravy- but I thought that "bits" implied that I would be receiving actual *bits* of fried chicken. The biscuits were nice and buttery enough but paired with the proteinless gravy, it kind of just tasted like butter overload. This place is also pretty inflexible. Wanted to replace my potatoes with turkey sausage, but it would've been an upcharge despite these two sides being of equal value a la carte on the menu. Alright. Then, I ordered a chocolate crepe, sat for a minute, and then changed my mind and wanted to switch to the cinnamon and sugar crepe. Problem is is that they only have one cashier at all times, and the bald cashier was pretty busy ranting about this serial grubhub scammer to his line of customers, so by the time I got to the front, the crepe had already been made; and they were unwilling to switch it for me at that point. Cool. The ambiance itself seemed nice-ish; they had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for the space and the indoor was nicely decorated, but the clientele that day made it a miserable dine-in experience (at least two screaming toddlers and a man who refused to hand over the bathroom key until I explained to him that if they gave the bathroom key to another customer, someone would walk in on me in the bathroom). The restaurant itself felt clean and comfortable, but the food didn't quite wow me. It was good, but I've had better eggs Benedict and better shakshuka. Eggs Benedict is one of my favorite breakfast dishes, but the hollandaise sauce lacked the acidity needed to balance out the richness of the dish. The location and the vibes made the place perfect spot to come for weekend brunch. Could easily imagine beach stop right before or after brunch, or simple stroll at either the marina or Abbot Kinney. The menu was long with bunch of selections available so you might take some time to prolly make up your mind. We went for one savory and one sweet dish. Starting with the Biscuits Benny, serving scrambled eggs with biscuits/scones, cubed potato wedges, fried chicken and obviously gravy sauce. I loved the well-seasoned wedges and tender chicken with nice crispy coating, but the gravy sauce was just not for me. Tad too thick and made the overall meal felt heavy paired to it. Got the Chocolate crepe for the sweet dish, but sub the strawberries with peanut butter at extra charge. Nothing special to call out from the crepe batter itself. Toppings were obviously yum cos nothing could go wrong with Nutella and PB. Would consider this bit pricey being close to $15. read more

I first tried Fratelli Cafe via DoorDash while I was visiting the area and I now make it a point to order something when we I visit. First off, how fun is the name The Fratelli's. I love the movie the Goonies, so the name is a plus for me. I normally get a vanilla latte and one of their breakfast burritos. The burritos are super phat and tasty and their lattes are consistently good. The service in store is friendly and quick. I still haven't eaten in the store but I have always had a good experience with the staff taking orders at the register. Parking can be a hassle on a Sunday in the summer around 10am, so be prepared for that. Otherwise, it's worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

A Yelp find that I have been wanting to try for a few weeks now and finally made it happen. Ordered the Biscuit Benny with a side 2-stack Buttermilk Pancake. The second meal ordered was The Chicken n Waffle with a side of 2-Scrambled Eggs. Pistachio Latte as well. The service was straight forward. The ambiance was one of a trendy Breakfast/Brunch spot. The environment however was a little uncomfortable for us as we arrived. It's like we walked in and the music stopped the record scratched and all eyes were on us briefly. Made more uncomfortable by the fact one of the hosts (Jose) kept bumping into me as if the place couldn't fit the both of us at the same time. After the second such bump, I had to ask him, was he ok. He apologized and feigned not to notice. However (afterwards and to his credit) he seemed a little more vigilant toward us ensuring we were well throughout our dining experience. So, (initially) not a very welcoming crowd for certain. Food arrived and I was really looking forward to it due to the delectable appearances of all the photos of past patrons. Our meals arrived together and looked perfect. And they were well put together meals just lacking flavor in certain areas. The Biscuit Benny's Gravy was thick, and textured the way I like for a Gravy over a Biscuit, just lacked flavor. And the Fried Chicken it covered was lacking, flavor wise, as well. Nice and crunchy however mine was a little tough due to an over cook. The Buttermilk Pancakes were well cooked just lacked Butter. Initially I assumed they were buttered when prepared but if so, not very much. The Home Potatoes however were the star of this dish. My guest even ate several off my plate as well. Very flavorful standing on their own. Over all solid meal that looked great. Prepared fresh and very eatable. The Chicken and Waffles were a definite solid as well. Just lacking flavor on the Fried Chicken, but the Waffle hit all markers. I'd say this is very much so a delicious safe place to consume breakfast or brunch. Reasonably priced (we were just short of $85 for our meals and a tip). Initially for us coming in, it didn't seem so welcoming but by the time we were to leave, things seemed somewhat better, and we felt better about it all, at that point. This place is pretty good! Glad there is another option and they serve breakfast all day. While visiting for a week we came in twice around breakfast/brunch hour. A little busier on Friday than a Tuesday for sure, but we found plenty of open seating at the long family style table in the center of the restaurant. The Vanilla Caramel latte (hot) and Chai Tea latte (hot) were good. If eating-in, they are served in a big mug which I found aesthetically pleasing to drink out of. You choose a place to sit and peruse the menu (lots of options) then you go up and order at the counter and take a number. They have a small selection of pastries, but nothing looked inspiring so can't speak to those. The food: We tried two of their omelets, The Jackson and California. The description sounded more thrilling than the actual experience. They were average. Brioche french toast was thick slices of yumminess. My son liked that they were a bit soft in the middle. He said "undercooked", but that was not the cause. Much better than just using two slices of sandwich bread which some places do. Bit pricey to not come with anything else. The Fried Chicken Burger was really good. It had enough sauce and toppings to my satisfaction. I hate a dry sandwich or burger. Decent crisp to the fries. Son enjoyed the smash burger with fries. The only con are the prices for most dishes. Everyone in our party did not like this place as much as our go-to spot so, 3 stars. Expect to pay $18-20 for some eggs and potatoes. Pricing and tipping has gotten out of control. They do have someone walking around to bring your food to the table, but it's self-serve for water, utensils, condiments, etc. Asking for a tip when I'm at the counter to order and have not received any service outside of that is forever odd. Came to have breakfast with some friends. At nine am on a Sunday there was plenty of open parking. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted and helped to an appropriate table for our party even though it's order at the counter. I liked getting to look over the menu at the table then ordering when ready. I got the sweet and savory (waffles w eggs, sausage). I also got the spiced mocha. The food came out quickly and accurately. The food was good, although I didn't really taste the pearl sugar in the Belgian waffle... It just tasted like a regular waffle instead. This place is very close to us and I had been wanting to try their breakfast. The food was average. We ordered the chilaquiles (with both sauces but they forgot green) with chicken on the side. The chicken oddly came as the first item even before our coffees so the chicken was getting cold in the table awaiting the rest of the food. We also tried the choco french toast, which I had high expectations for but honestly, something I could make at home. We found it somewhat overpriced, including the tipping when its a self serve cafe, and not much food for the value. The only absolute good thing was the pistachio latte. The set up is that you go up to their counter to order your food, they'll give you a number to put on your table so they can find you to bring out your food to you when it's ready. I ordered a hot chai tea, the choco croissant French toast, and a side of turkey sausage. The chai was good, and so was the French toast, which had banana slices and Nutella drizzle on top along with a side of syrup. I have been to the one on Melrose, but this is my first time at the newly opened MDR location. It's a casual breakfast restaurant, I would classify as no-frills and fast service. You order at the counter and then they bring the food to you, it is not a sit down with full service sort of place. Parking is very easy because there is a large free parking lot right out front. Service is very fast so it is a good option if you are in a rush. The menu is not very large, but does have some solid options on it. This is not this sort of place that will blow you away, but it definitely gets the job done. I would say it classifies more as good, not great, but I still enjoy it and plan to be back more times in the future because I live very close to this location. I started off with a vanilla and caramel latte, and I honestly really liked it. It was my favorite part of the meal and I would highly recommend ordering it. The flavors were well balanced, and it was pleasantly strong. For my meal I chose The Biscuit Benny and thought it was fairly good. The eggs were a bit bland and I wish the biscuit on the bottom would have been fluffier but overall it was still enjoyable. Wasn't my favorite version I've had but definitely not the worst. We went to Fratelli Cafe today for breakfast/brunch and I had forgotten that it used to be Cafe Buna which we loved! We were greeted warmly and looked at the menu before ordering at the counter. The restaurant looks very similar to the way Cafe Buna looked but has a much bigger menu, including a lunch menu on the back. My friend had an egg white scramble with potatoes and toast and I had the Fried Chicken and Waffle. We both had lattes and we ordered a chocolate croissant. My friend said the scramble was just okay. The waffle was very good but the syrup was way to sweet and runny and kind of ruined the waffle. The fried chicken was a relatively small portion but was pretty good. It was basically two fried small thin sliced chicken breasts. I did need to add a little salt to the chicken to give it more flavor, but overall the chicken with the waffles worked. The lattes were strong and very pretty. The croissant was the best part of the meal and I'd come back for that any time! read more

The cashier was incredibly impatient--borderline annoyed--because I was placing my order at the counter to eat in the dining area (since the servers don't take your order at the table). She gave me such an attitude that I actually had to ask her if she was feeling okay, or if she was upset because I was taking my time ordering my food--which I was doing because it was my first time at the restaurant. And it will definitely be my last.
