I do love this place don't get me wrong, but I tried their lox bagel for the first time today and I'm extremely disappointed. The bagel isn't even toasted and there's barely a sliver of cream cheese. I will never understand why restaurants refuse to put a decent amount of cream cheese on anything, but this is something else. I am definitely coming back, but I would never get this lox bagel again unless I asked for extra cream cheese which I would most likely be charged for. read more

I drove past this place many times for a few years and never went inside but was always curious to try it. Ended up going for the first time a few months back while tagging along with someone who stopped by for a coffee run. Its very quaint inside; an old rustic style decor with an amazing smell of fresh coffee beans. One wall is lined with fresh coffee beans in light, medium and dark roast in a variety of blends and flavors. They have fresh scones, muffins and pastries in a glass case to look at while you stand in line. They have THE best Latte I have ever had!!!! I use to be a Starbucks regular and now I can't stand the taste of their coffee. I have been purchasing a 1/2 pound of their coffee beans to take home and try and all of them have been really good. The best so far is the Black Gold. The atmosphere is very inviting and conducive to promoting community interaction. There is an outdoor patio area where you can sit and relax, benches lining the front and a large table inside. I can't wait to try more of what they have to offer including their food, bakery items, teas and other coffee items on the menu. read more

Small cafe off of Lincoln and Rose towards the beach. There is a parking lot immediately adjacent but you can park on the street. Soy latte was well done and the service was fast. There is a great selection of food at specific times. The atmosphere is quite comfortable but I can see the seating becoming quite limited when it's crowded. All I can say is that Groundwork made me smile--which most coffee shops do--but the combo of a great space, friendly baristas and incredible coffee just worked for me. I became very fond of the Rose St. area during my short 24 hour trip to Venice (not just because of name bias :) ) because of it's cool, hip, eclectic vibe and this coffee shop fit right in. I stopped in at 6:45 am Sunday morning while walking around the area. The baristas were super sweet and greeted me with a nice good morning--especially considering how early it was on a Sunday. I was really intrigued by all the alternative milk options (I'm a lactose intolerant) and while they had the standards you see these days like soy and almond, I had to try their house-made cashew milk! That's right, they make it in house. It was so rich and creamy and tasted SO SO good with the sweet / rich flavors of the espresso. Which btw was some of the best espresso I've had in a long time. While 4.50 is more than I normally pay for a latte in Ohio, that price seemed on par with most of the LA area. I didn't stay to sit down because I wanted to walk to the beach and drink my coffee there. This shop is about a 10 minute walk to the beach if anyone else has the same idea. I wish I had more of an appetite because the food menu looked BOMB. The Egg McLovin sandwich specifically had my name written all over it--English muffin + bacon + egg + cheese + kale. If I'm ever back in this area (which someday I hope to!) you better believe I'm saving room for one. 10/10, would visit again on any future trips I have to the LA area. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed last weekend in a great bungalow nearby in Venice. This was the closest coffee place to us, so I walked there for the usual Saturday morning caffeine and food outing. I stepped inside and it was packed to the gills. Every seat was taken and the line was about to the door (not too long, the interior isn't too big), but I quickly arrived at the very friendly cashier and placed my order: two Vietnamese coffees, an Egg McLovin', and Tree Hugger cereal. I received my coffees (absolutely perfect) and sandwich in less than ten minutes, which was impressive given the volume of orders. I waited around for my cereal for another 10-ish minutes or so and started to wonder if it was coming. I asked one of the cashiers about it and he turned out to be the manager, a really nice guy who informed me the cereal wasn't an available menu option anymore, but offered to substitute the oatmeal instead (SO good) and give me a free iced coffee. I walked out the door just a couple minutes later and was definitely happy with how friendly, unpretentious, and helpful everyone was. I returned the next morning and, despite being there only once before, the manager remembered my name and I was treated with just as much courtesy and promptness as before. This is a great place and I'll make a concerted effort to visit in the future. read more

I don't get complicated drinks (it's rare if I do) and I'm a fan of iced drinks so when I try coffee places, I usually order their cold brew. I've had many good cold brews from various places and I've concluded Groundwork Coffee Co's cold brew is one of THEE best I've ever had. Very, very smooth flavor, no aftertaste, not bitter, not a burnt-bean flavor. Just perfect. I could drink it black, which I tried, and with a dash of half and half, it's a elevated treat. I also had a really delicious slice of coffee cake, forgot it's name but it topped off this great experience. Color me impressed! read more

My family was staying at a house in Venice just a short walk a way, and the 4-pack of cold brew (pretty pricey) was enough caffeine to wake up my 4 brightly red-headed bleary eyed siblings. You won't find a better espresso within a fairly large radius. Period. Super busy in the morning, but the afternoon guys have the time and knowledge to help you get exactly what you need. Superb roasts abound here. They offer great, dark, intense varieties, like Bitches Brew and Black Gold. The closest thing to caffeine nirvana in L.A. Not for the lightweights. Reminds me of Seattle's brew masters. I first sampled their coffee at a catered film shoot and was hooked ever since. We stumbled across this place by accident while heading to LAX. It's been a long time that a coffee shop and Eatery hits all the marks for me. There was easy to find street parking which was free. The space was unassuming on the outside, when you step in had an urban-chic feel. Great assortments of gluten and non gluten free items. Excellent hot coffee tea and soda drinks available. A full breakfast menu which can cater from gluten free vegetarian vegan or paleo. The staff was friendly and to the point. I ordered the short beef hash with a side of gluten-free toast. This has been the best breakfast that I've eaten an extremely long time. The flavors for each item were superb. The short ribs were cooked to Perfection falling off and shredding beautifully wonderfully season. The white sweet potato hash highlighted flavor of the Savory of the meat, perfectly steamed spinach with a sauce which highlighted everything and married it together perfectly. The gluten-free bread was so good that I question that was possibly not gluten free. I love the fact that they offer real butter. When the wonderful things I noticed is that they used non-star phone containers, corn plastic utensils. Not only was our food and Severus excellent but they're mindful to the environment as well. If they had one of these in Colorado I would frequent it all the time. Do yourself a favor if you like a sustainable business with the environment and others in mine go visit them. I've been a client here for years since it was Gourmet Coffee Warehouse. Used to be a great place with good coffee but the last few times I've gone in it's been so humorless, with staff barking orders about where to stand, sit, behave as if your patronage is an actual nuisance that it's no longer worth a visit in my opinion. I'm a coffee-holic. I love everything about it. When I was a kid, my dad would always order French-Vietnamese coffee at restaurants and sneak me sips. And it didn't stunt my growth! I've been trying to switch over to tea since it's healthier but I just really love the taste of coffee. Tea is fine from time to time, but the perfect cup of joe is hard to beat. Especially on sleepy mornings. And at Groundwork, they make the great coffee. I always order the latte or cappuccino but I'm sure every other kind of mocha-soy-doubleshot-skim-chai variety is good too. They also have a wide variety of tea. I only wish that there was an area where I could lounge around and read but the place is literally a shed. There are a few chairs and benches outside but it's not really set up to hang out. I usually just take my cup to-go and walk my dog to the beach. read more

It looks like an old time General Store with screen doors, antique coffee pots and wood bins filled with coffee. I love that people sit out front and watch the Rose Ave. traffic go by. I love that it's on my way to work and that parking is no big deal. I love that they give me 10 cents off when I bring my own mug! hint hint. I love that one of the lady employees there gives me compliments and makes me feel good about myself so early in the morning! I love the Black Gold coffee and the Irish Breakfast tea. I'm always on the hunt for truly good coffee, and Starbucks just keeps going downhill in my book as it seems their drinks get more and more watered- or milked-down by the cup. I'd read so much about this place that I was itching for the opportunity to give it a try - and now I know why it was rated the #2 best coffee in Los Angeles! Truly fresh, rich flavors - with real body and depth like a real cup of coffee should have. I love that it's fair trade and organic as well. It really makes Starbucks taste like the powdered stuff you'd buy in the local supermarket. Prices are totally reasonable ($23 for 2 lbs), staff are very helpful and knowledgeable, and I love that you can sample the different flavors so that you know what you're getting when you go in to refill on beans. I just finished my cup of Black Gold and am looking forward to going back to get a pound of their Brazilian beans. I didn't care for their lighter blends (I think it was an Ethiopian bean) but that's just matter of preference - I do appreciate that they have something for everyone. I agree with the other Yelper who said the one down-side to this place is that there's nowhere to sit down and enjoy a cup with a friend. But all the more reason to bring a pound or two home! read more

Delicious, organic, COFFEE. I went to the Main Street location (I think) - on a visit from NYC. I've become a coffee snob and this place lived up to my expectations. My boyfriend got the coffee shake - better than a frappa-whatever-ccino! I had a latte. They've gotten rid of the self pour stands, which I think is for the better. They've generally have a good variety of beans for the bagging, but the main reason I come here is that they actually make a pretty tasty breakfast burrito. Uh we love Groundwork on Rose! My husband love to sit outside of the cafe before heading to the beach. We like the granola, the regular coffee (choose from 2-3 options), the iced chai, the mocha, and their lattes are amazing too! They serve pastries, sandwiches and other stuff. 4.5/5 stars. good beans, lots of good food choices including granola(made in house), oatmeal and pastries. lots of different brews to choose from. i had a 3 shot latte, with nice foam. the espresso wasn't as restricted as i like but the drink was good enough. prices are fair too. i would stop here 9 times out of 10 comapred to intelligestia(which had a 30 person line at about 3-4 minutes per person-just for "drip" immersion coffee) haven't tried their espresso straight up, but i have had a almost all of their brewed coffee and they are tasty for sure read more

Great service, and staff. Free wifi. Very busy scene, you'll wait on line in AM. A lot of locals tend to frequent this spot, a lot of "colorful" characters in there, and some really solid folks too. Takes all kinds in Venice, and particularly so at Groundworks. As for the coffee, honestly not my fav roasts, by a long shot, and I've tried all that they offer at their flagship location, as well as their stuff as brewed at other venues... Best coffee roaster in the city. I've tried beans from almost every local shop that roasts their own coffee but nothing beats their beans. I usually buy a bag of their beans and put it in my espresso machine and my favorite part is that you get a FREE cup of coffee with every bag you purchase. The horchata was amazing FYI. read more
