Hey, don't get me wrong , these guys have great coffee BUT they are cutting corners. this is the second time one of there cheap cups has let me down. The lids do not fit the coffee cups, we're they made for different cups and they got a deal? Either way the lid pops off, the coffee cup looses I what little strength it has and I am wearing my latte. Short story long, I won't go bak. They have saved themselves a couple of dollars but at a cost to there clients. read more

I've visited Venice many times over the years and look forward each time to going to Groundworks to meet up with characters from the community. Not sure why but things keep getting more and more expensive every time there! A berry granola yogurt parfait in a plastic cup now costs more than the raw vegan gluten-free version you can get sitting down at cafe gratitude (more than $8!) what is up with that? And too bad about the reduced seating space. I'm now more tempted to have my breakfast at home then just drop by for a standing chat outside. read more

Pros- kind staff, organic beans, 10% Yelp discount, reward program, nitro brew on tap/in cans, bottles, and concentrated forms! Visited Groundwork on Friday afternoon. Peaceful inside with some conversations and others working. Many people just grab to-go. I had their 16oz cold brew. It was amazingly creamy and not too acidic (which I personally prefer). The cashier recommended the cinnamon coffee cake, which I enjoyed very much. I came back later in the afternoon to bring a cold brew back for a friend and I was then told that if you join their rewards program, 40 points = 1 free drink :) Yeah, $1 = 1 point but it's cute and useful for regulars! Worst place I have ever been! The place had a horrible smell that didn't let me enjoy the coffee. The coffee is served on a paper mug even if you are going to stay in the cafeteria. No pets of any kind are allowed, but the place was full of dogs. Go there if you want to experience when homeless meet hipsters. read more

My favorite coffee shop to visit in Venice. I like to journey over from the east side on my work from home days for a little caffeine and relaxing environment. I generally go for a cold brew, latte, or espresso and sometimes a bite to eat. I've always had a great experience with the quality of food, beverage, and everyone working there has been incredibly polite and joyful. The only reason I took a star off is because of the size inside - the geek in me prays for more outlets. The space is cozy and fills up fast! Usually never an issue if you come solo but if you come with friends don't expect to have a lot of privacy if it's busy. Parking is incredibly easy with street options readily available. read more

I went to the one on Main St in Santa Monica. Loved the coffee. Nowhere to sit to speak of, just 3 bar height round tables (whatever those are called) but as far as to-go coffee, skip the Starbucks and Peet's nearby and come to Groundwork for seriously good coffee. Groundwork Coffee sells a scrumptious banana walnut bread, and I even wanted to try their rasberry tofu muffin. I liked how it felt like a country barn on the inside, but it was also really cold inside to the point of uncomfortableness on a winter day, and this is southern Cali. Also ask the employees for where the outlets are, since they are not easily seen. Also, another downfall was that it doesn't seem to have many places to sit down. read more

The coffee here is alright. My real problem is where am I supposed to sit and work. If I'm outside, there's no plug for my laptop, plus those chairs are frign' uncomfortable. There's no space inside either. I dunno, it is a sort of stop and go place to get a good cup of coffee. Since moving away from Southern California I haven't missed much about California. The 3 things I do miss though are the sunshine, beach and Groundworks. I found Groundworks in the last year of living in SoCal and I would have to say that I drank it on a daily basis until I left. I then bought 2 bags of beans and brought them back with me to the east coast. Nothing beats going to the store though with the vibe the place has and now that I have run out of my coffee I guess its time to order more online. They also have great fresh food - the breakfast options are amazing & the bitches brew short rib sandwich is bomb. I get coffee here more often than I make it at home. It's around the corner from me and I'm glad they are in the neighborhood. Wonderful coffee that is not too acidic and delicious herbal teas (really like the Moroccan mint tea on a hot day!). Not a place to sit and lounge as it is more of an in and out operation (limited seats inside with a strange setup) and a few seats outside in a covered patio. They were really cool about explaining what type of sweeteners were in the drinks and the non-dairy milk options which I really appreciate. I love patronizing small, local businesses but every time I come here I leave wondering why I bother. The coffee is quite expensive for how much you get ($3.25 for a 16oz cup) and isn't any better than their more corporate competitors - in fact it's not very good. Had an espresso milkshake WITH WHIPPED CREAM and it was delicious. The guy working was adorable!! They had bean coffee to purchase and cool travel mugs too. Great coffee and they usually have 7 or so brews to select from. Also, the day old pastry bags are awesome! One BIG complaint: the line. Even though they have two cash registers, even if there is literally a line going out the door, only one is open. I have no love waiting in line for up to 15 minutes to buy a coffee. Groundworks coffee is wonderful, but the place and location itself has become a nightmare for parking and if you get caught in the lunch or breakfast lunch just forget about it. For the coffee drinker it is a must stop in Los Angeles, but as an everyday thing b/c of the location I would avoid it. read more
