I have much to criticize about yesterday, since I ordered, then delivered two sandwiches to two different family members/locations, only to find that Grove Grinder gave me the wrong order. I wouldn't be yelping here if they only answered the phone instead of letting it ring off the hook, twice, a half hour after I left. I only wanted to inform and help them of their mistake; an apology would've been acceptable. I ordered a whole Steak & Cheese and a Pastrami Sandwich, 2 large chips and 3 bottled drinks; only to leave with two Turkey Sandwiches. I even tipped for a total of nearly $60. Here is the irony; the cashier (great personality) has me verify each of my sandwiches and their content. I howl now because, it's of no-good purpose if they cannot produce the correct sandwiches on their end anyway. I was the last person waiting there (although they could've given me someone's call-in order). Since each sandwich is wrapped twice, taped, and bagged, it would be impractical to open them up at the counter, in order to confirm that they pulled off their job correctly. Here's a brilliant solution; Write the Sandwich Name on its wrapper, immediately after they make it. Then no one has to guess what it is. I must admit the food is better than the franchise, Sub-Something; but I've never walked away with something different from there - how could one possibly leave with the wrong sandwich while it's made in front of you. Nevertheless, other than the charming, warm gentleman at the cashier yesterday, at times they usually seem irritable and put out - not friendly. There is no ambiance, but a couple of tables and small chairs, to wait for your order; but they don't need them as this is an overwhelmingly take-out place. Cheers read more

I've been coming to this little hole in the wall sandwich shop for years. I really like their Godfather which basically has everything on it.. Ham, Roast beef, Pastrami, Salami, Meatballs, & Sausage. Let me start by saying I have traveled all over the country and have tasted my way through small towns and major cities and when a place talks about having grinders, they usually miss the mark. GROVE GRINDER DOES NOT, they produced they most authentic grinders I have had outside of New England. I usually take foodie, artsy pictures but from the smell alone I tore into the grinder... we had a pastrami on rye with the works and it was perfect... it's not a stacked pastrami like you would get at Katz deli so don't expect a sandwich, expect a tasty grinder with loads of meat and fixings to go with it. We also got a Cheesesteak, with onions, peppers and whiz... just like in Philadelphia... it's a thin sliced beef full of flavor and they had whiz!!! (If you've been to Philly then you know) it reminds me of Delassandros which is one of my favorite joints out there in Philadelphia to grab a cheesesteak. (They had a smoked option which my son got and it was incredible as well) They have a HUGE selection of craft bottled sodas, some are new flavors and some are old time classics, I grabbed a big red for my kid who misses our time in Dallas, a butterscotch soda for my wife who has been looking for it since Harry Potter came out, and I drank my first grape nehi just like Radar from the 4077. It's an antique sub shop that's been around for as long as I can remember and easily well before the yelps and teh interwebs. Most recently I've ordered The Godfather and before that it was a steak and cheese sandwich. If you're expecting a proper Philly cheesesteak, then go in with tempered expectations. It's probably closer to plain carne asada instead of thinly sliced ribeye. The sandwich was served up as a molten hot mess and the sandwich roll nearly fell apart. It was just ok for me. The Godfather was a bucket list pick. It's a hefty meal and a large is easily shareable. I had to wrap up the other half for later, which worked out well since everything marinated and mellowed out nicely after a few hours in the fridge. Not too too long though, before the bread got soggy. If you're especially a fan of root beer, then you should check out their refrigerated selection of bottled soft drinks, which usually offers a wide variety of root beer, some with useful, funny, and cool bottle labels. It'll take some time before you work through their full list of root beer bottles. There is also nothing better than washing it down with a good ole flavored root beer, and they don't just have one style, they have about 80. I opted for the James special (ham, salami, pastrami & meatballs) and I only got the half because the giant sounded insane (which it was). Not only were the flavors there and rockin, but the combo with the root beer is really what made my day. I would definitely come back here again and recommend it to others in the area.
