    Bar area.

Bottom line: Growler Grlz is an appealing little bar/shop to enjoy a beer or two, with over 40 beers on tap to choose. Cheerful helpful service during my visit and a charming little shop to relax in with both indoor and outdoor seating available. The Deets: I got the chance to enjoy a visit to Growler Grlz with friends Melissa O. and Robert O. after brunch one rainy Sunday, I found it was a nice place to pass the time away sharing a beer or two with good friends on a rainy day. Walking inside the little place in a strip mall near the Woodcroft area in Durham, you are pleasantly surprised coming into the nice, cheerful, quaint shop, with a good amount of outside seating (that we could not use that rainy afternoon) along with the limited seating around the inside bar. I like the assortment of the metal signs that are displayed all over the walls, simple but very nice decor that suits the place well. Over 40 beers on their board to choose from...quite the selection on tap! There are also a assortment of bagged snacks to purchase and enjoy as well with your beverage choice. Our bartender that day was super friendly and helpful, and I found one of my faves Cheerwine Ale from NoDa to enjoy and ordered one. Growler Grlz is a charming little shop/beer bar to hang out in, and I am glad we dropped by.

Wow, how can this place be seven years old already? We were here previously to fill up growlers of beer but on my last visit, I just wanted to drink a pint on a Sunday evening while sitting in their patio area. When the weather is nice, the patio is quite lively. People will get food from the pizza place next door, and they occasionally have musicians playing as well. The vibe is very relaxed and neighborly, and the selection on draft is huge. They've got a good thing going.

Wow, 42 beers to choose from. Holy indecisiveness! It is very small inside but outdoor seating is available. I got a flight of different IPAs. I wasn't too impressed with the IPA selection when we visited but the selection rotates regularly. If you need a growler fill, this is your spot.

Really cool spot with a large variety of beer on draft. They make use of all their space even though it is small. The staff was friendly and great suggesting beer based on your likes and preferences.

    42 drafts!

My first impression of Growler Grlz, just walking into the shop, was wow! Who would guess that a tiny interior would be so full of beer options?! However, after taking in the very FULL board of 42 drafts, it wasn't as easy as one two three. Although the staff was incredibly friendly and inviting, it took him a minimum of ten minutes to explain the color-coded, asterisk and check mark labels system and four pour options they have going on. This wouldn't be a problem regularly, but I couldn't help feeling after one even more overwhelmed by the overcomplicated system. However, aside from all this, if you're looking for a place to try several things, Growler Grlz offers flights of any five 4oz pours for $7.95 (some premium beers are $10.95 for a flight). The bartender also gave us samples of anything we were interested in. We tried five of their IPA's, the majority of which were more malt centered but I'm curious how often they're cleaning their lines. Growler Grlz aims at filling growlers, so they constantly have rotating taps. They offer the crazy low price of $2 drafts on Mondays for craft beer HOWEVER only 6 of the 42 drafts were on sale during our Monday visit. And although Growler Grlz focuses on drafts, they did have three bottles for sale in the shop: Canvas Series by Wicked Weed, Saints and Sinners by Big Boss and something by North Carolina Brewing Company out of Fort Brag. Overall, I'd return to the small space beer-centered space again (although be warned, if gets really noisy when busy), but I wouldn't make Growler Grlz a regular hangout place.

This is a great place to hang out! It's a small shop but they have a great selection of beers. It's mainly a grab and go place but they have both indoor and outdoor seating available. They are pet friendly so you don't have to leave your pups at home! I went there with a Groupon for their beer flights. Basically, you can pick any 5 except the ones with stars next to them. They have a wide selection of beers to go through so you still have plenty to choose from. Always clean, staff is friendly, and good beers.

We've landed in the mothership! Could this really be a clean, FRIENDLY place with 42 very interesting taps AND an actual knowledgeable staff?????? (Who knew you could serve beer without dumb servers who can't learn the tap line and make up beer "words", ) -these people can do it!!!! So incredibly glad we found this gem! STANDING OVATION!!!!!

My husband really liked chatting with the last owner, who knew a lot about wine. He had not been since the new owner took over. I convinced him to go for a tasting, and I'm so sorry I dragged him in there on his weekend time. We were the only people tasting at the bar. Despite this the managers showed zero interest in us. It was very awkward. They asked no questions, not even how long we'd been going there. Management actively avoided us. No one wanted to talk beyond shelling out basic wine info on what they were trying to sell at the tasting. When we stepped away from the counter to look around after the tasting, they suddenly gathered with one another behind the counter to talk among themselves, leaving me somewhat confused and left to peruse the shelves alone (we were the only ones there looking at wine too) instead of taking any opportunity to approach us, get to know us, and retain local clients and entice us to want come in more often. All 4 seats were empty at the counter around them. It was a weekend night. Had I felt more hospitality, we might have bought a nice bottle of wine and sat down to talk. Instead we left. My husband just shrugged (he likes Wine Authorities anyhow) but I actually felt somewhat shocked, in all honesty. It's hard to believe they're trying to run a hospitality business. That experience was anything but fun. In fact it was stressful and a disappointing waste of time. If they want to justify their higher prices over other stores, or encourage people to drink on premises, they need much better management. Preferably people who like people. We had every intention of supporting this local business, but won't be returning anytime soon.

They have 2 locations- Raleigh and Durham. The entire store is filled with wines from all over the world. The best part? None of them are from big companies. Every single one of them are from local/ small businesses (You can see some of the business owners photos by the wines!). The owner/ founder of Wine Authorities has been working with a lot of the wineries for many years. They taste every new batch they purchase to ensure quality. Although they have many businesses they've been working with for a long time, they go to wine shows and events in Europe to discover new ones! I like my wine very sweet but there were so many choices that I was a bit overwhelmed. I asked the nice lady at the register to give me recommendations and I loved the wine she recommended. If you are a bit overwhelmed with all the choices, just ask for help. They are very informative and helpful! Aside from their amazing wine, they also have beer, cider, sake, hot sauce, honey, meats, and etc. You will find at least one thing you will love. On Saturdays, they have free wine tastings from 12-3pm! If you cannot make it there on time, you can always buy a bottle or two. They will give you glasses to drink in the back or outside if the weather is nice outside! You can also buy snacks or cheese to go with your wines. Also, if you are a little hungry, you can buy a bottle from Wine Authorities and head to Thai Cafe next door and they will let you drink there without extra charge!

Our Chapel Hill home is equidistant between this location, store #224 "Hope Valley Commons" in Durham, and store #120 "Meadowmont Village" in Chapel Hill. Simply put, we like this Harris Teeter more than the Meadowmont location because we think the stuff here is fresher and there's more variety. The items I've personally purchased the most from this store are coffee creamer, diet soda, bagged or boxed salads and veggies, and occasionally salad dressing. My coffee creamer of choice is Silk Almond Creamer in the 32-ounce bottles. Harris Teeter regularly sells these at $4.79 per bottle and offers at least one or two flavors more than Walmart. Walmart's price is cheaper, though. A 12-pack of canned diet soda has regularly cost $6.59, but I've often gotten packs for less than that through discounts and specials. Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Dr. Pepper, and Diet Cheerwine are the types I've purchased. I also like the 8-packs of bottled Diet Coke, but it's a little more expensive at $6.59 for 8 bottles. Each bottle holds the same amount as a can (12 ounces), but I like that I don't have to commit to an entire bottle. I can seal it back up and drink it later without sacrificing carbonation. We like the Harris Teeter house brand "Farmers Market" salads (e.g. Romaine Blend) and Organic Girl boxed salads (e.g. Super Greens!). I'm not so much a fan of Fresh Express, but I'll buy it if there's nothing better. The bags of Fresh Express can be as low as $1.99 per bag of Italian salad and as high as $3.79 per bag of Hearts of Romaine. 10-ounce bags of the Harris Teeter Romaine Blend have cost $3.49 at regular price while Organic Girl has naturally been more expensive at $4.29 per 5-ounce box. However, we've often purchased boxes of Organic Girl, and many other items, when they're on sale. We've gotten Organic Girl for as low as $2.99 and $2.14 per box. The small bags of Eat Smart Vegetable Medley, Broccoli and Cauliflower, etc. have typically cost $2.99 per small bag. As for salad dressing, we like Briannas which has run $3.49 per 12-ounce bottle. The New American Creamy Balsamic and Asiago Caesar flavors have been yummy. My wife does most of the grocery shopping and cooking for us. A sampling of things she's purchased from this Harris Teeter in recent months includes blueberries ($4.99 per box), clementines ($2.99 per 3-lb bag), green grapes ($5.99 per bag), baby bok choy ($2.49/lb), seasoned Brussels sprouts ($4.99 per package), Hass avocado ($2 per bag, each bag has 2 small avocados, so $1 per small avocado), yellow onions ($1.99 for a 3-lb bag), organic lettuce ($2.49 for 1 head), natural free-range eggs ($6.49 for 12 large eggs), ground chicken ($6.99 per package), asparagus ($3.99/lb), frozen blueberries ($9.99 per bag; great in smoothies), yellow bananas ($0.49/lb), Tillamook Mudslide and Chocolate Ice Creams ($6.99 for a 1.5-qt carton), white mushrooms ($2.49 for 16 ounces), cremini mushrooms ($2.49 for 8 ounces), shiitake mushrooms ($4.49 per package), baby bella mushrooms ($2.49 per package), leeks ($2.99/lb), sweet potatoes ($1.19/lb), Bush brand beans, assorted (e.g. dark kidney beans, black beans) ($1.49 per can), organic red seedless grapes ($2.99/lb), Dave's Killer Bread assorted bagels (e.g. berry, Cinnamon Raisin Remix) ($5.49 per bag of 6 bagels), thin Oreos ($3.99), Philadelphia cream cheese ($3.69 each), mangoes ($5 for 5, but we could buy them in singles at $1 each), red grapes ($5.99 per bag), ground turkey breast ($6.99 per package), Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce ($4.49 per bottle), Harris Teeter sharp cheddar ($3.39 per bag), Yukon potatoes ($1.49/lb), Nielsen-Massey vanilla extract ($10.99 per bottle), Screamin' Sicilian Supremus Maximus Pizza ($9.59 each), Quaker Old-Fashioned Oats ($5.69 for a 42-ounce carton), Classic Coke ($6.99 for pack of 8 smaller cans), Dark Horse Rose wine ($7.99 per bottle), NatureSweet Cherubs sweet grape tomatoes ($6.99 per 10.5-ounce resealable container), and Ghirardelli 72% Cacao Dark Chocolate Premium Baking Chips ($5.49 per bag). OK - that list of examples was more detailed and exhaustive than I thought it was going to be. Admittedly, I saved up several receipts from my wife's visits to this particular store and saved them to write about in this review. We've also gotten our fair share of extra creamy Reddi Wip in both the large ($5.49) and smaller ($3.29) cans. It was a guilty pleasure which we would add to a lot of desserts, for a while. My wife has a Harris Teeter VIC card. I do not. Maybe I should get one. Coming from Atlanta, I've been using the Kroger Plus "Card" on my phone via the Kroger app. I think I get the same discounts as a VIC. Practically speaking, in general, parking is easy at this Harris Teeter. It's usually never crowded. The store is clean and the customer service is good. We've yet to have a bad experience here.
