Will give two stars because it wasn't the worst experience all around. I had a great experience booking my appointment and with the front desk. However after bringing my dog home I noticed his ears were cut choppy and his body is uneven. For $95 I expected a more even, polished cut. It seems they may have rushed through the appt. maybe they need re-training for their groomers to cut dogs hair properly. Since my last review I have adopted a second dog, a little puppy-teenager who gets into trouble and needs more frequent bathing than my first dog. Sundance and and Carmen always remember our dogs when we come in and absolutely adore them (despite the fact that my little one used to howl in their faces during his first couple of baths - his manners have improved slightly over time!). These wonderful ladies give special attention to both dogs and always are sure to note any little oddities they find during the grooming practice. The blueberry facials are now a regular treat for our German Shepherd since she has to put up with her little brother. Both dogs smell so great following their baths. Their fur always comes out so fluffy and soft. I can't say enough nice things about Grrreendog Grooming. The prices are reasonable, the location is really convenient, they use all-natural products and, best of all, they really love the dogs they serve. read more

We adopted a 13 year old dog with some special needs, moles, lipomas and the like - we were concerned about getting her groomed but she is the kind of dog with hair that grows long (not fur) and we looked online to try and find a place where they would be patient and kind, understanding it was about Lucy's comfort - we are not entering the dog at Westminster so we did not care what the cut looked like technically as long as the dog was treated well. We were thrilled with Sundance - Lucy looks adorable and is so clean and has the cutest little puppy cut. You can see her face and she no longer looks unkempt. She looks loved, clean, sanitary, and well cared for and she was treated like royalty. We will definitely be back!!!! read more

First off, let me say that the stars are for the two women that work here. They were amazing, sweet, charming, and clearly loved the bejeesus out of my dog, which is honestly my biggest concern when leaving a pet somewhere to be groomed. You want to know that the person caring for your fur baby in your absence is someone who will treat them well and even baby talk sweet nothings into their ear to soothe them while being groomed. You will get that and then some at Grrreendog. The cons: - It took many many hours to groom my 4 lb long haired chihuahua. We made an appointment, dropped her off, were quoted a time to come get her, came late on purpose to allow for extra time (they seemed a little backlogged), and then waited another 30m on top of that. It seemed they had barely even started by the time we got back (2.5 hrs later) and then rushed to finish the job. - The haircut was just not good. It was nothing like the (very specific) cut I requested, and the owner seemed to know that when I picked her up. She told me it would "grow out" to look like what I asked, but weeks later, the cut is just growing in choppy, uneven, and weird. Even the sanitary trim was lackluster, and only a few weeks later, I'm already having to (ahem) help my dog get all cleaned up after #2s. I'm usually spared of this task for at least 6 weeks after a good grooming. - It was expensive ($60) given the size of my dog, the excessive wait time, and the crappy/generic haircut. Basically, if you have a dog who just needs a super close crop or who needs to be sheared like a sheep for the summer, this is your place. It's an awesome, friendly little shop with sweet-as-pie owners who do an okay, basic job. Don't have high expectations or shallow pockets. read more

We, and our dog, love Sundance. He's gone there for his haircuts three times now. We live in Brooklyn, but my in-laws live in Albany, and we generally wait to schedule haircuts for our pup until we're in Albany just because we like Sundance so much. The first time I dropped my pup off there, I was naturally a bit nervous, but when I came to pick him up (and I was about 30 minutes late), he was hanging out in a play area waiting for me, and looked totally relaxed. I felt so much better about this than I did when he was sitting in a cage waiting for me to pick him up from his last groomers. Sundance had also taken a little video with my pup which she posted to fb where he was totally at ease. The most recent haircut took a lot longer as it was right after Christmas, and Sundance was super busy, but we understood and also our pup was perfectly relaxed when he came home. His haircut was a little longer than before, but that's because it's winter in NY. Honestly, the peace of mind knowing that my pup is being taken care of by someone generally interested in his well-being means I'm happy with whatever haircut he comes out with. their humane business practices are also amazing. If I could make any suggestion, it would be - get blueberry shampoo! read more

I'm still happy with the place, but a few things need updating. First, I noticed that other reviews seem to generally be happy with Grrreendog if they drop off their pets for baths, but reviewers who get actual haircuts done are not so happy with the place. I do often need to do touchups on my pup, finding a missed spot. That happens. No big whoop - I have scissors. I think the TLC balances out having to touch up her eyebrows. Have I gotten more technically proficient haircut at Petsmart? Sure. That's because they see so many more dogs in a day. That's good and bad, mostly not all that important in the end. Changes at Grrreendog in recent months from a customer's perspective: more business. That's a good thing. It means more dogs hanging around waiting for their people, which is good if your pet doesn't get to play with other dogs much and really good if you have a young dog that's had all its shots and need socializing. It's like a rotating mini-doggie daycare included in the grooming price. However...there are a lot of dogs underfoot and too much equipment for the current size shop. The next year will be interesting....but, dog willing, we'll keep coming and see what happens. read more

Very upset with Grrreendog..... so we know the Saturday appointments are hard to get and we waited.... We made an appointment for June 19th at the beginning of May..... mind you when we made this appointment we gave all of our correct info (my husband repeated my phone number to the person several times) and they never stated in that call that we had to fill out a new client application which we would have had no problem doing..... well, we got there today about 10 mins prior to the appointment we thought we had and we told the lady our dogs name and she was like who?! We said what time our appointment was for and gave our info..... finally after a while of looking around she found our previous appointment which she then stated was cancelled, without notice, by them as we had not completed the new client application within 48 hours of making the appointment..... she read us the contact number they had in the system for us and it was wrong....... So obviously we never got the forms...... after she looked through their disorganized papers and system they were like we can try to fit you in next weekend...... they wanted to reschedule an appointment they had cancelled, without notice, when we had moved mountains to navigate their strange and inconvenient hours...suffice it to say standing there with our puppy we made a decision..... this level of disrespect is unacceptable...we will make a longer drive for the security of knowing that an appointment is set in stone... we will take our dog to a better groomer that respects them and our time..... we like that this place has natural products and seemed pretty reputable, but frankly this sour taste can not be washed from our mouths...We will not be back read more

My first visit was post pandemic shutdown and I was pleased with the service. So much so that I scheduled another appointment for my dog 5 weeks later. After the "pause" was put in place, I was concerned this may affect my dogs appointment but I received an appointment reminder via text and confirmed we would be there. I brought my Dog to his confirmed appt only to find the doors locked and salon empty. I called and emailed the salon and received a response that they needed to close down but would call me to reschedule upon re-opening. Weeks went by and I heard nothing. On a whim, I called today and found, to my surprise, they were accepting appointments but were scheduling three weeks out?? Where was my call to reschedule as promised?? Terrible customer service! I understand we are in unprecedented times but if you tell me you are going to call me to reschedule once you have reopened, I expect a call. I have taken my business elsewhere! read more

I took my standard poodle in yesterday for her first professional groom (she's been groomed by a breeder a couple of times). Just wanted the "sweet + neat" plus face. I thought that came with a bath. After paying $58 and getting home, I realized they did not even bathe, let alone brush the dog, which I still just can't believe. I didn't know what to expect but she had crust buildup in her eyes and I brushed one leg at home and it was visibly obvious that the rest of her hadn't been brushed. They did cut the hair on her feet and sanitary and around her eyes, but I had asked for a close cut on her muzzle and that was not done. Moreover, there was no blending whatsoever done so the hair is very choppy and sloppy around the back end and feet (there's one spot with 1/2 inch sticking out from between her toes, too). They did clean/pluck her ears for the first time, but then also for the first time my pup had mats behind her ears. I comb my pup's hair out at least every few days and had just done it 2 days prior and there were no mats there then. I called within an hour of getting home to ask questions but no one answered, and as of one day later, no one has called me back yet. Another issue was that the parking lot had several spots where poop had been smeared into the ground. I don't fault the groomers for this -- it's customers who let their dogs go in the parking lot and don't clean it up -- but it's not ideal to have to navigate that after supposedly having your dog cleaned. read more

I'm a bit lagging in my review time as I haven't been in awhile, but a good service is a good service! I love all things eco-friendly and this groomer is just that. During the BP oil spill, the owner even donated the clippings from all of the animals to a company that stuffed absorbent sacks with them! She is also very helpful and personable and makes the whole experience really great. Its pricing is on par for similar groomers. I certainly wish I could afford the luxury more often, but as the previous reviewer said, it's definitely worth two trips per year (I have a golden retriever). I think my dog was a bit sad that it was over when I picked him up, and he normally hates anything involving organized bathing, clipping or general grooming! read more

I am very glad I stopped by grrreendog just to ask some questions. The staff immediately impressed me and I scheduled an appointment for my girl who has been suffering with allergy and skin issues for years. They took so much time to come up with a plan and discuss it with me. My girl just had her first mud bath and she seemed improved even after the first visit! We have been to so many groomers over the years and not one has ever taken the time or acted in such an amazingly kind and professional manner. I would highly recommend grrreendog. read more

Our happy Labradoodle had such a great experience w/ his 2nd visit to Grrreendog today. :) I can't get over how fluffy and soft he is. We've been to 4 or 5 different groomers around the area, and this is the first place he seems happy to come back to, and he gets a way better hair-cut & way more attentive treatment overall. It's a little out of the way for us, which is why we didn't come here first, but it's definitely VERY worth it. I also can't get over how good their customer service is. They really love what they do and love the animals and they just want to do the best they can to make the pup's experience (and that of their human companions) very positive all around. read more

I had a wonderful experience bringing in my puppy in to see Sundance and Carmen. These ladies have great energy and clearly love what they are doing. My Scottish Terrier was sooooo soft and had a perfect breed standard cut coming out of there and most importantly she was a happy pup! I can't say enough about Grrreendog, and I'm the proud (most days) mom of three canines...two cockers and a spunky Israeli mutt. Grrreendog is spa time for "the girls," with the cockers getting the works and my mutt getting a mani and a pedi. They are all so loved, comfortable and happy there...after they're done they wander around like the own the place and do dog things until I pick them up. There are no cages, no stress, just love and attention. I only wish them much success so they can upsize a bit. : ) read more

I have a "problem child" and the woman there took very good care of her and said she wasn't that bad even though we've been told by other groomers not to bring her back! I am so upset! I brought two of my dogs in today. One for a nail clip and the other for a complete groom. I asked that her face, chin eyes and butt be cut short and everything else was to be a trim. I wish I could upload photos here; her ear hair is all gone, except for the stray long hairs sticking out all over the place, she looks like she has whiskers from all of the stray long hairs sticking out all over her face, her belly is half shaved...horrible! She looks like she had a run in with a lawn mower. Additionally, both of my dogs were yelping in pain when they had their nails clipped. This has never happened before, no matter where I have taken them. My appointment was at 1:30. At 3pm I called to say I needed to come pick up the dog I left for grooming. I arrived at 3:10 and finally got out of there at about 3:50pm. To add insult to injury, I was told the grooming would cost $60.00...the final price $66.00, because "it took longer than expected". My dog weighs 20lbs. Total price for a chop job and one nail trim $81.00. Never again! read more
