Professional operation. We bring our dog here and they've done a lovely job grooming her. She seems well treated (she's enthusiastic to return when we drive up to the business) and they are good about calling you immediately when her grooming is completed. Sometimes the grooming is more on target than others (we have a terrier, and finding the legs and beard done correctly is hit or miss.) My only concern is that while you are greeted by a notice that masks are required (albeit, for the self-identifying unvaccinated) the groomers themselves aren't masked. It's disconcerting/how do I know their vaccination status? The fees are not insignificant here, but they are fair -- they are comparable to what we paid in CA and WA State (so, perhaps based on CPI of the different areas they are higher, but I don't economize when it comes to the care and well-being of my pet.) We struggled initially to find a good groomer for our Yorkie when we first moved to Albany- it's tricky to get the pup cut just right. He loved his previous groomers so the move was a bit tough, but once we found Shampoodle the transition was seamless. He's been happily getting his whiskers trimmed with Brittney for 4 years now. The rapport Britney has with our pup is excellent! He always goes in tail wagging and comes out just as happy after getting fluffed and buffed. We highly recommend Brittney if you have a Yorkie (I'm sure she does a great job with other breeds as well). I am giving 5 stars for consistentcy. In the year I have lived in Albany, Frederick, my 7 year old Maltese, has made around 5 visits to Shampoodle for a grooming and looked great every time. He has been groomed by several staff members, never left looking like a poodle, and been groomed with care. He is usually out within an hour and a half, which is great. I find it helpful that Shampoodle uses the shampoo I bring as well as a rinse, which helps Frederick's dry, allergy-prone skin. I wish there was a way to give more than 5 stars. Shampoodles is as perfect as they come. My husband and I sent our puggle to daycare 5 days a week for a year and a half and regularly used the grooming services as well. There is nowhere we would have trusted to take such incredible care of our dog as the Shampoodle team. Everyone who works at Shampoodle is first rate and cares so deeply about the animals. Ginny runs an incredible shop and is one of the nicest people ever -- she truly made us feel like our dog was one of her own. We unfortunately just relocated and are so sad to not be using Shampoodle any longer, but I would recommend the daycare and grooming without any reservation whatsoever. Whoever had the idea for this place is a genius. It's a do-it-yourself dog wash. You bring your dog there and they provide you with a little room with a giant tub in it, a hose, a thing to hook your dog to the tub with. They also give you smocks, shampoo, pads to clear the dog's ears, towels and a hair dryer. Oh and doggy cologne if you want it. Then you wash your dog and leave the mess for them to clean up. If you bring your own towels, you can save a couple of dollars. I always just get the towels there because I don't want to take wet, hair-coated towels home to throw in my hamper. I think I usually end up paying about $10 every time I go here. If you have a small dog, then you probably don't need to come here to wash it. We, on the other hand, have a 180-pound English mastiff. Washing him in the bathroom at home is not a fun or effective experience. The money really doesn't seem like much when you consider the clean-up and ordeal of doing it at home. They also provide grooming tables for your use and I believe they also provide bathing and grooming services if you'd rather not do it yourself. They will also help you with things like nail-clipping. I think Junot likes the Shampoodle because the nice ladies who work there always give him a biscuit when we leave and tell him how handsome he is. He's very vain. I swear that he always has a little extra spring in his step when we leave here with him sparkling clean and smelling of new cologne. read more

I wasn't impressed with the haircut my shih tzu puppy got at Shampoodle. I asked that her hair not be cut too short (I like her fluffy!) and they totally buzzed her. The groomer told me she was difficult and that resulted in the unexpectedly short hair, but she's been groomed twice before at another shop and they didn't report any issues. She's a puppy, so I'm sure it wasn't that easy, but they're supposed to be professionals, right? i don't know that jess left too much to say but i guess i just want to say that i Totally agree. this place is an absolute amazing and wonderful idea. the staff is super friendly and helpful. the smocks are lovely (the first time i gave lilly a bath i ended up way more wet than she was), the shower hose with the button on the handle for adjusting how much water was great. it is So nice to have the hookie thing as well because then you can use both hands to scrub, rinse etc. they provide a little rubber scrubbie thing that is good for getting the really deep dirt, and the conditioner left lilly's wiry hair quite soft. the drying hose that is in the stall was nice to have and then the grooming stations in the main area have smaller dryers for the extra touches. kenz loved the cologne and the little pads for cleaning the eyes and ears were great too. the extra 2$ for the towels made the total come to $14 and it only took around 15 min from start to finish. and now we have a sweet smelling and fluffy non-traumatized dog. yay!!!!! for shampoodle! read more

This place is a wonderful, cost-effective way to get your big smelly dog clean without paying for grooming or having to clean up the giant mess in your own bathroom. We have a 57-pound lab mix who does not like getting baths at all, and there's no way I would want to do it in my own bathtub. At Shampoodle, they have large tubs that are up high so you don't have to break your back. You get a plastic apron to protect your clothes, a thing to hook your dog to the tub, and all the stuff you need - shampoo, conditioner, ear and eye cleaning solutions, cologne, towels, and hair-dryers, both industrial strength and regular, depending on how scared your dog is of the dryer. I used the industrial one on Hobbes, but it was loud and blew cold air and he didn't like it one bit. The staff is very professional, helpful, and friendly. They showed us how to use everything. Once you're done bathing the dog, you can use the grooming tables (again with the thing to hook the dog to the table) to clip his nails or brush out the coat. The staff can help you with the nail-clipping if you need it. As other reviews have said, the shampoo and conditioner do seem watered-down, but my dog left smelling fresh and was very shiny and soft. I didn't use the cologne, but he didn't need it. All of this cost just 13$, much less expensive than having him groomed. It's only 12 if you bring your own towels. I will definitely be returning to Shampoodle's. read more

We have a large Elkhound and it's impossible to wash him at home. Since we just moved back to NY we were in need of a groomer. My wife searched on the internet and she came across this place. We chose it based on the pictures of the facility, the price and the fact that there was a full time groomer on staff in case we needed help. When we arrived we were greeted with a nice hello and we were asked if we had been there before. When I replied "no" I was given a customer card to fill out and the receptionist got our tub ready. She was very friendly and explained everything to me step by step and even offered extra towels if we needed them. She even stopped by to see how we were doing which was nice and even offered to trim our dogs to nails for $5 so we let her trim his nails. She was super gentle and friendly to him and us. But the pictures on the internet were outdated and really didn't show the current condition of the tubs. Ours had blacked grout around the tub and the walls had missing paint, stains and scratches around the walls. The scratching i can excuse since I'm sure it was from dogs that just wanted out, but the dirty tub and dirty walls let me wonder if it was just this one or all of them. When i was finished i walked through each tub and they were all dirty from months of neglect. The groomer on staff was blasting goth music while she worked on the dog and that made me wonder if she was trying to cover up the dog yelping or crying for help. Bottom line is, it is what it is for a cheap dog wash, but we wont be going back. read more

And, the facility is clean, the huge, raised tubs are safe and easy on the owner's back! I've only used the DIY bath service so I can only speak to that, but I'm very happy with it. They provide a nice elevated tub with a ramp for your dog to get in, a hose (for lack of a better term?), a doggie hair dryer, and all the supplies you could need such as shampoo, conditioner, eye cleaner, ear cleaner, cotton swabs, etc. They were able to take me as an "emergency" walk-in about an hour before closing on a Saturday, after my dog and I got stuck in the rain at the park and she got filthy. Mckayla (I hope that's the spelling, sorry if it's not!) was very patient, skilled, and efficient. The only way my dog's nails were ever cut was sedated by the vet and she got it done. I recommend this place to all my friends with dogs - especially big dogs - since we don't have this problem since Sputnik is 12 lbs, but i know they can't as easily throw their 75 lb dog in the tub or sink. I love the people that work there and how they calm Sput down when trimming her nails - and I love that I can rent towels so I don't need to bring my own towels back wet. I love the stuff to clean Sput's ears and eyes and the high-power hair dryer that scares the heck out of my parents' dog Lucy. I have been a patron of Shampoodle for many years and have never been anything but extremely satisfied. The staff is professional and so very caring. My dog and my daughter's dog are well cared for when there; I have no issue leaving them for their baths. My daughter's dog typically has anxiety issues with everyone; but not with the Shampoodle staff. In addition, they smell so good after their baths:-) 3 years ago my beloved lab passed away. absolutely love it here! We take our 80# lab every month & groom ourselves. We are even on the repeat customer list, giving discounts on I believe every 10th visit for self washing, Staff is great every time we are there to wash ourselves. They are always cheerful & energetic. They do clean the tubs after your visit, so no clean up even though I always try to do it for them. I usually get told not to worry when they see me cleaning up. We tip exceptionally well because of this reason. Always clean tubs and always availability. We usually go first thing or later in the evening. We use their oatmeal shampoo with special ear treatment every visit for my Lab's coat. This stuff does the job, no more hot spots!!! The lady owner is nothing short of pleasant every time I interact with her. I would recommend this place to anyone with canines. side note - one time we dropped our lab off & picked him up afterwards. He was a bit damp still and it was more expensive but in a pinch it worked out great! read more

Shampoodle is great! I've been taking my poodle here to be groomed for almost a year. Every time we go, he looks great! The staff are very nice, caring, and skilled. I recently brought in my boyfriend's dog to be groomed after his family had a bad experience with a previous groomer. The previous groomer said this dog was too much of handful to be groomed (after cutting his eye while grooming and requiring a vet visit). When we went in I explained the dog did not like grooming and may give them a hard time. When I picked him up, the groomer had great things to say about his behavior and he looked amazing. This is a great place to bathe your dog (I don't have them bathe my dogs, I do it myself). They have individual stalls and carry almost everything you need for a general bath. Most of the staff is friendly (occasional exception, but mostly friendly) and helpful. Cost is affordable. The facility is clean and bright. Shampoodle got a lot of fur off of her and she looks good, but they gave her awful razor burn on her stomach, crotch and under her tail. OK I'm just gonna say it......I am the biggest fan of Shampoodle ever since they opened in Delmar....I am so glad that they have branched out and are offering services all over other parts of the Tri-City area it's one of my favorite places to bring my dogs to be groomed the owner is awesome The staff are friendly and give you whatever you need in order to wash your dog and make them look the best that they can be. They offer professional grooming which I have not used yet but I have seen and they definitely know what they're doing especially with special-needs dogs I would not go to Petsmart or any of the chain stores I will always go to either Shampoodle or a veterinarian facility that are experts on grooming pets especially with special needs such as hip problems. they even cut the toenails which kind of freaks me out to do it myself and they do it in seconds without a problem and are so reasonably priced which I hope they stay that way don't miss out on an opportunity to make your pooch look beautiful and it's great if you want to do it yourself they have everything you need.
