We were here on a Monday, because Mondays are all you can eat taco night! Its also an all you can eat ribs night. We had a perfect parking spot right in the front of the place. They have side parking too. My girl ordered all you can eat baby back ribs. Their bbq sauce was right on the table. They had both spicy and sweet. My girl can drink bbq sauce, so I asked for a straw lol. She poured it on her ribs. I ordered my loco fries which is sweet potato fries with fried onions and jalapenos. Then i had the 4 meat combo. So I asked for pulled pork, pulled chicken, and beef brisket(x2). Good stuff. With side order of rice. I sprayed bbq sauce all over the meats. My only complaints is that the rice is around 2 something, and I only got like a small scoop of it. Come on now..They can afford a little more than that. At least 5 scoops dudes. lol. I am surprised there are no reviews of The Grub Hut (other than the one post here). I have never had a reason to go to Manville nor had an idea that I had driven by it a million times over the years. We decided to switch things up this weekend to finally find and try this place out and I'm glad we did. The Grub Hut is a diamond in the rough and it is not only BBQ...it is a Mexican restaurant as well. Upon walking in you are hit with this amazing aroma of BBQ and smoke. It did not take me more than 5 seconds to say, "I like this place." The place is small...has maybe 15 tables inside and looks like it could be a crowded place at night. It is very clean and the service is great. Looking over the menu, I wanted to try everything...but I was there for BBQ and needed to stick to my guns. We ordered the 'Almost Boneless' appetizer (aka 'Rib Candy') to cover the rib portion of the meal....these are trimmings off the racks of spare ribs. They came with two styles of BBQ sauce for dipping. They were not cooked as I would have done it....I think they should have been more like burnt ends. Never the less, they were very good and the portion was huge for an appetizer. For our entres, we ordered the BBQ Platter with two meats (brisket and pulled pork) and the BBQ sandwich (pulled chicken) with sides of corn bread (a mini loaf), Carolina Apple slaw, sweet potato fries and grilled onions with a jalapenos (I don't know what they do to the peppers but they were amazing). Very good meal and generous sized portions. A few notes on the meats...the chicken was delicious. The brisket was pulled/chopped and not overly smokey....the same for the pulled pork. Tasty, but not as smoked as I had expected. I also prefer a Carolina style vinegar sauce mixed in with my pulled pork to keep it moist...and mustard based sauce vs. using BBQ sauce. But that is just me. I will definitely be going back as I need to give the ribs a run as well as all the other Mexican items on the menu. Who can resist eating a Chimichanga?? Amazing pulled pork. Pork ribs were a tad dry, but not enough to call them bad. Beef ribs won the taste-off, sautéed Brussels sprouts were great, as was the cornbread. Enchiladas a little bland, which was remedied with some salsa verde. Daughters LOVED the burgers and hot link. Definitely will be going back soon. read more

So I am torn between two things, this was my favorite Monday spot for unlimited tacos for ~$20, but now things have gotten out of control. We went 3 people and it cost $90 with tip, we were also asked to pay for an extra chips and salsa (repeat $90 spent). What if we all sat at different tables, come on now... All good things come to and end, and unfortunately this may be the time for Grub Hut. We were here once before and were amazed by how good the ribs are. Returned tonight with the whole family and the ribs were just as good. We wound up ordering a second full rack! The Grub Hut catered my backyard wedding and I could not have been more impressed. The owners made me feel so comfortable and even customized the menu to fit my needs! Mike and his wife Mel will not disappoint when it comes to food and customer service! After doing a site-visit and ensuring that everything would fit in my quaint backyard, the owners reviewed the menu and offered a serving schedule that would keep my guests occupied and entertained! The appetizers, both passed and stationary, blew us away! The coconut shrimp, sweet potato expanadas, and lollipop chicken wings were a hit with my guests! Truly authentic, homemade food! In addition, the dinner buffet was spaced perfectly and kept the food hot; no-one waited in like for more than two minutes! Salmon, ribs, fajitas, creamed spinach, street corn, and so much more - we were in heaven! The best part about the whole experience with The Grub Hut was that they provided their own tables and tents, set everything up, delivered and picked up their materials, and even offered a server and bartender. I stopped here after doing some Christmas shopping not far away. I have heard of the place from friends who come often and like it. I really want to give them more stars but I am taking off for getting smoked out. There is a smoker which they use to smoke meats and when they opened it, the whole place filled with smoke. It just wasnt ventilated properly and you could see the smoke cloud near the ceiling. My clothes smell like smoke. If it was not for the smoke it would have been a solid 3 star, maybe even 4 star meal. Upon entering I was greeted with a friendly smile and promptly brought chips and salsa. The salsa was excellent. I went with a lunch size chicken enchilada dish. 2 enchiladas came out with rice and beans. The chicken was not dried out and seasoned perfectly. The rice and beans were what I expected. I did not leave hungry. There was more than enough food for me. The service was good the waittress was quick to tell my drink when she saw it was low. read more

The tacos were excellent and fries too but I took one bite of the burger slider and could tell the meat had gone bad. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she immediately apologized and offered to replace them with more tacos. They came out fresh and delicious! Family members food was all good and we decided to order desserts. Both the tres leches cake and the bourbon bread pudding were great and the excellent service and attention was appreciated! As others here have said it is the kind of place you keep driving by and then you give it a try..... Then you immediately get ticked off that no one ever told you about it before! The food is great and different from your regular fare. The presentation and preparation is top notch. The uniqueness of the dining area is another pleasing part of the experience. The service and responsiveness of the staff leaves quite a bit to be desired but the FOOD is what demands respect! I would also recommend their satellite site in the Bridgewater Mall. The idea of American BBQ and Mexican fare works perfectly here and trumps what I think of Tex-Mex. The BBQ is not a joke coming from a former KC and American Royal attendee. The Mexican food is also authentic. Sure it's a small place, it is not cheap, and they get very busy but their food is simply a bargain for the quality and taste. You want cheap food then just click on the Taco Bell ad on Yelp and but don't be mad when your ass is stuck on the throne the next day. Order the loco fries and sweet plantains. The homemade salsa is excellent and free. The pulled pork and brisket are delicious as well. I've not tried everything as I can't afford to keep my waistline and eat here often. read more

Absolutely love this place!! Their salsa is delicious and fresh. They make it every day so sometimes it has more kick to it than other times but ALWAYS flavorful!! I used to order their enchiladas a lot and they were always good and gave you the option of what sauce to have (rojo, verde, and I believe mild) you can also pick what type of meat you like. I highly recommend the chorizo for something different than your standard chicken and beef. In the last year I have usually order the BBQ Platter usually with the pulled chicken and pulled brisket. It's a hit or miss with this though. Sometimes their chicken and brisket can be a bit dry which is a little disappointing but nonetheless still tasty. When it's tender and juicy it's amazing and their BBQ sauce is excellent!! I always get the plantains which are cooked perfectly. Everyone that works there is very friendly. It's a small place but makes you feel comfortable. It is BYOB and beer always goes great with some Mexican/BBQ food. Have been coming here for years and my husband and I love this place and I'm extremely picky about Mexican food. I've never been dissatisfied eating at Grub Hut. It's a cool little Mexican bbq joint with seating inside (on the warm side and smoky smell) or limited seating outside. They also have a room in back you can sit in if you request it. Our server tonight was quick and on point. Food tasted great as always. It's BYOB so be sure to bring your favorite bottle. read more

Variety of Mexican and barbecue offerings, some fried items, good sides. Loco fries (sweet potato fries with onions and jalapenos) were delicious! Hot link - surprisingly good. First basket of chips and salsa is free and it's a big portion. Salsa tastes great. Good level of heat but lots of flavor too. Few issues/negatives: Black beans - really bad, basically inedible. Someone went nuts with the bay leaf / oregano. Tasted like tea leaves. Probably not like this all the time, butttttttt they were so utterly bad that I have to mention it. Sauce - both could have used more vinegar I feel or more sweetness. Or more something. They were a bit anonymous. Food was cool. The menu notes that BBQ is traditionally served "warm not piping hot" but this was just barely "warm." Brisket is pulled, not sliced. Not a fan of that at all! Was on the dry side but did have tons of beefy flavor. Pulled pork was on the drier side as well. Chocolate chimichanga - pass. Dough is too think and hard to eat. Filling was yummy and thick with chocolate and graham cracker. There is a catch to this - there was an incident with a patron taking a tumble in the restroom, which all 3 co-owners attended to. That probably contributed to the long wait and sub-par food offerings. They would've just eaked out a 3 star except (!) they apologized profusely and comped us a dessert. They currently have all you can eat tacos / ribs on Mondays. read more

It just felt like we were in Mexico with all of the vibrant colors and the small hole in the wall feel... the ceiling fans are a nice touch. But, of course, its about the food. I left TOO stuffed. We discovered this place on our way back from Flemington for a late lunch because i was craving for some good pulled pork. Luckily it had outdoor seating so the dogs didn't have to wait in the car, but it was next to a busy main road so it was noisy. The food were on the expensive side. We ordered a shrimp and a chorizo taco combo and the pulled pork sand with loco fries, two soda bill came out to be $40 including tips. The taco combo was ok, pulled pork sandwich was excellent but I'd skip the pickles next time, the side order of rice&beans was tiny, sweet potato fries was over cooked. Overall we weren't too impressed for what we paid. In Jersey city for around $3 you can get some of the best tacos around, here will cost your $13 for two. I've been meaning to write a review for a while, since I've been here or taken out at least 15 times now. However, I finally had the Buffalo Wings (Sassafras Wings) which I've been meaning to try for a while now (its tough because there are so many options here) and oh my lord, these are THE BEST wings I've had in NJ, hands down. Crispy, smokey, juicy on the inside, and fall off the bone. Going to try them with BBQ sauce next time. The rest of the food is outstanding, I would claim both the best Mexican and best BBQ within a 30 mile radius. Everything is extremely flavorful and well seasoned, I've never had a bad dish here! I was looking for a good Mexican restaurant and found the Grub Hut by accident. Food is awesome - BBQ is not overly smoky and sauce is a nice mix of tangy and sweet. The portions are humongous! They start you off with salsa and chips. Salsa was smoky and yummy. Grub Hut, located at 307 N. Main Street in Manville, is one of the few eateries in town where you can consistently get good food. There is a lot of street parking and for those of you who dislike parallel parking, there is a municipal parking lot a few hundred feet away. They are BYOB, so remember to bring your favorite or drive to the liquor store first. We visited on a busy Saturday evening. The dining room appeared full. Our lovely waitress seated us in a small room behind the open kitchen, where a party of 8 was dining. The atmosphere is always casual and loud. The cuisine is barbecue and Mexican. I opted for some chimichangas with carnitas to fill one and pulled pork in the other. They came covered in their spicy green sauce. Both meats were very good and distinctly different in taste. They were served with black beans, rice and fresh pico with sour cream. 2 chimis were enough for me but they offer 3 if you have the appetite. I was told that the chicken fajitas were okay. Service was great. I've frequented Grub Hut for years and thought that the Mexican wasn't as good as the barbeque but I enjoyed the Mexican food I just had. Music from jr. high/early high school (mid 80's). Have a seat (we did); brought a few bottles of beer which the server opened immediately after giving us menus. Hot link: brat with some smoked paprika and heavily smoked to perfection; a nice snap from the natural casings Pulled Pork: tender, piggy wonderfulness; good amount of brick. Pulled Brisket: a touch of cloves in the mix, and as with the pork, melt in your mouth heaven. It was great having the 2 paired next to one another for a better comparison between slow cooked beef and pork. Tacos (Mexican style=onions+cilantro on corn tortillas; California=hard or soft shells, with cheese; we opted for Mexican style): steak (1cm nuggets which were perfectly seasoned after a squeeze of lime) & chorizo (a little cartiledgy, but we devoured it none the less). Guacamole: ok Black beans: excellent Tomato rice with what tasted like aged chihuahua cheese: phenomenal, and I usually don't care for a dry rice We asked for 2 more tortillas to make tacos from the rest of the bbq (here they encourage it) All in all, a wonderful meal. I went to Grub Hut for the first time today and I will be back for sure. Their salsa is THE BEST salsa I've ever had. I think they roast the tomatoes? It has a distinct smoky flavor and is somewhat thicker than your typical restaurant salsa, for maximum chip coatage. Kind of weird that they specialize in both Mexican food and BBQ, but they actually marry the two quite deftly. I got chicken enchiladas, and the chicken in the enchiladas was BBQ chicken. Kind of a weird combo with the sauce and the crema, but it prevented dryness, which is always an issue with chicken enchiladas in my experience. I deeply suspect that their rice is made out of a box that comes with a spice packet, but I'm not even mad at it because it's delicious. Their black beans are definitely NOT from a box and are super tangy and limey. We also got tres leches cake, which was awesome but way expensive at $8 for a small slice.
