I haven't been here in a while and although the waitress was very nice I was slightly disappointed i our food. We went Mexican this time around and although it's a decent portion but the spices used is some of the food/ meat taste more concentrated in certain bites. The rice was so hard I couldn't even eat luckily I don't really eat much of it so didn't make a fuss about it. The food here is wonderful and the menu is quite extensive, especially for a small venue. In the nicer weather, there are outside tables. They can get very crowded, so try to time meals during a less conventional time. Every menu item which we had was delicious and prepared exceptionally. I came here for a quick dinner before seeing a movie at Manville Reading Cinemas across the street. I got the poblano soup with brisket, a daily special ($16). It was a creamy and tasty soup, and not too spicy because the sour cream balanced out the heat of the peppers. The brisket was pretty tender. The plantains and corn bread that came on the side weren't necessary. Most things on the menu were fairly pricey except the typical Mexican food - enchiladas, burritos, chimis, etc. For the most bang for your buck, you can do the pick two ($14) or pick three ($16), and choose your meat and sauce. My friend got a chorizo enchilada and pulled pork chimi, which came with rice, beans, guac, and sour cream. The atmosphere was very casual and seating was limited, which explains the "Hut" in its name. But from the name "Grub Hut" itself you wouldn't be able to tell that this is a Mexican/BBQ place. read more

Fantastic!! Me and three co-workers stopped in for lunch, and the three of us that hadn't been here before are now obsessed with the food. I got the BBQ platter with only brisket and southwest potato salad. The meat was SO GOOD!! One co-worker didn't have bbq sauce on her meat at all. I liked the mustard sauce and smoky sauce. I was really impressed by this place. I have passed by many times but never tried it. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the staff and the restaurant smelled absolutely amazing and everyone inside appeared to be enjoying their food. We didn't know what to get so we ordered the big time, which is a little of everything. It says it is for two but it is enough food for three people if not everyone is really hungry. The bbq was the clear star and the sauces they provided on the side went great with the food, the Carolina mustard was my favorite. The Mexican food was good as well but some things were better than others. The quesadilla we got with carnitas was delicious and the chicken in our burrito was extremely juicy. Back in June of 2016, my son and I had a less then satisfactory meal at Grub Hut. A to go order brought home for my wife also had its problems. Following my review here on Yelp, the owner reached out to me, conveyed his regrets, sent a gift certificate to me in the mail and asked us to stop in again. So, we placed a to go order this past Saturday night. Our order was ready just as a vicious line of electrical storms moved through the area. The drive to and from Manville was harrowing. But our food was ready and we were thanked by a staff member, not the owner, for coming in. Pleased to say that our two racks of ribs were delicious. Juicy, flavorful, exactly what we expected but did not experience the first time around. My wife's Sassafras Chicken was a big hit also but what made her really happy were the roasted vegetables. She noted that she would eat this as a side dish every day if given the opportunity. Because we paid online, we could not use our gift certificate. Another time. Just tried food from here that I bought for my family through takeout. We got fajitas, a burrito and enchiladas. The food was delicious. The chips and salsa was so good. They only thing I didn't like was the takeout box. It's made of a brown cardboard type material that doesn't keep the food hot and gets wet and flimsy from the moisture of the food. So the owner replies to my critic of the restaurant being filthy by stating the building is 100 years old and not much he can do. When I said filthy, I was talking about food on the floor and walls. Waitress cleaning off table scraps on to the floor (classy.) I went twice over the course of 3 months and the same food was stuck on the wall in the back room. On a cool, clammy Saturday night, we trekked to Grub Hut. We had a choice: inside (20 min wait) or outside (immediate seating). We were hungry, so we chose outside. One of the seats was wet from an earlier rain, and after tracking down a server, someone came outside to wipe it down. With a wet towel. So one of us got damp pants. Ten minutes later, no one had even taken a drink order, so we left. I think I've done that perhaps three or four times in my adult life (and I ain't no spring chicken). As an aside, the menus are hard to read - consider a larger/clearer typeface. If you can't deal with your three "al fresco" tables, don't offer them to customers. I must say that the app was easy to navigate and even offered you a delivery option of of up to 10 miles, for those who don't want to leave the house or without transportation. Needless to say, I placed two orders of wings, one buffalo and one barbeque. I requested the wings to be well done and finished on the grill and they were prepared the way I ordered them! Buffalo wings came accompanied with blue cheese dressing and the barbecue wings came with bama ranch (a peppery ranch) and of course, celery.
