Our room (#14) was extremely difficult to enter. There were two steps to climb. The first one was OK. The second one was more than a foot high. Very difficult to climb. There were no rails or anything else to hold onto. The first thing we saw when we entered our room was a broom with a wad of hair stuck to it. Then a dust pan just lying on the floor. Then there was the bathroom. Let's just say that I have seen larger in a small motor home. The most redeeming factor is that the beds were very comfortable. It also lacked basic necessities to be comfortable in an overnight stay, like paper towels and regular towels (they tell you to bring your own but I still find it strange). The area and town are beautiful, so we would like to return but I will consider looking into alternate accommodations next time.

If you're in your room you leave the door open to allow the cool air from the hallway to drift into your room. The rooms are terrible, relatively clean, but dilapidated. Nowhere to put anything. The single antique, worn out dresser has a TV on it. There s zero counter in the bathroom, a pedestal sink, a small medicine cabinet with a mirror and one electric plug in the light fixture. The pool is refreshing but needs a lot of work! The grounds are really pretty. This place has SO much potential but it's clear that the owners aren't putting anything back into the business. Sad.

There are very few things as peaceful as sitting in a jacuzzi and watching the wildlife walk and fly by. No sounds of cars. No airplanes overhead. No "hustle and bustle." Just peace. The cabin itself was pretty cool. There's a binder with photos documenting its construction sitting on the kitchen table. The layout made sense. It's nice to be able to cook your own meals if you want. There are some restaurants just a few miles from the cabin if you'd rather do that. If you want a nice hearty breakfast, you have to check out Granny D's. The shower and fireplace were both a lot of fun. The rain on our first day there made it a bit difficult to get a fire going, but we finally managed to start it. The replica Franklin stove in the bedroom was useful. The way that the windows are fitted to the house lets a bit of a draft in, and they rattle a bit when the wind is blowing hard, but that's part of the charm of the place. Another cool place to check out while you're there is the Natural Bridge Caverns. Lots of fun, as we both like long walks and hiking-type activities. There is one recommendation that I would make to the owners of the cabin. Re-grade the driveway/ramp down to the cedar cabin. The sharp drop at the bottom all but guarantees that you're going to scrape your vehicle's undercarriage unless you're driving a pickup or SUV. If you are driving a sedan, you'll want to park at the top of the driveway and walk down the hill to the front door. We were crawling down the driveway at less than 1 mph and still managed to scrape the under-body paneling of the car on our first day there. That sucked. We parked up top (see photos) for the rest of our stay. All of that said, the cabin was exactly what we were looking for in a relaxing hill country getaway. I've recommended it to many of my friends and colleagues in the past few weeks since we got back to Grapevine. You should absolutely check it out and at least give it some consideration if you're looking for a getaway that's a bit different than the typical downtown hotel or beach resort scene. 8/10 Would survive the zombie apocalypse there.

Nestled in the hill country just a stones throw away from Canyon Lake and all the awesomeness that the Hill Country has to offer are the Homestead Cottages. There are three cottages: A cedar cabin, a regular cottage, and a Tiny Texas House. We stayed at the Tiny Texas House and loved it. The location itself is great. It's close to New Braunfels but even closer to Canyon Lake. It is perfect for day trips into the surrounding hill country, which is exactly what we used it for. We tripped to Boerne and Bandera from the location and the drive was beautiful. Tough to beat. The amenities at the Tiny Texas House were nice as well. There is a Tiny Texas Kitchen with a Tiny Texas Induction Oven (you know, the magnet thingie to heat stuff up with). There was also a flat-screen TV with sattelite TV, bath robes, and a coffee maker. Most of the comforts of home. I had only a couple of negatives about the TTT: (a) the size of the sink made it difficult to wash dishes and there was no dish soap; (b) the air conditioner wasn't quite strong enough to cool down the lofted bed; (c) there were some unknown hairs on the bed sheet so we were uncertain whether the sheets had been washed before we arrived; and (d) the fridge smelled a little musty. These were small issues, though, and didn't diminish our enjoyment that much. Aside from the location, a few things stand out for me. First, I loved that the TTT had a little enclosed garden surrounding an above-ground jacuzzi. If we were so inclined, there was plenty of mint to make enough mojitos for a party of 20. The jacuzzi was secluded, too, both by the trees lining the street and a wall filling in the space where the trees were. I also really liked the idea of a lofted bed. It was like getting up into my lofted bed I had in college, except fancier. All in all, if you're wanting a hill country escape with your significant other, you can do much worse than staying in one of the Homestead Cottages in Canyon Lake: unique, charming, and cozy.

The property has such a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere, and the cabin-style accommodations strike a great balance between cozy and comfortable. One of my favorite things was how much there is to do without ever leaving the property. Between La Piscine, the clubhouse with games and pool, plenty of outdoor seating, and direct access to the Comal River, it was easy to spend the entire day just relaxing. Whether you want to swim, fish, or simply sit by the river and enjoy nature, it's all right there. I also loved that they offer food and drinks throughout the day, making it even easier to settle in and enjoy your stay. If you do decide to venture out, you're just minutes from downtown New Braunfels and Schlitterbahn, so the location is incredibly convenient. Whether you're planning a romantic getaway, a trip with friends, or a family vacation, Petit Cowboy is such a fun and unique place to stay. Our cabin's…read moreAC wasn't working from the moment we checked in on Thursday, and despite multiple messages and visits from staff, it was never fixed during our 3-night stay. The staff on the text line (especially Daniela and Kaylee) were polite and tried to help, but the issue was beyond their control. We were repeatedly told a technician was coming, offered temporary cabins for the night, and given portable AC units that barely cooled one side of the cabin. By the second night we had three adults and a toddler staying in a hot, uncomfortable cabin. Even after constant communication, the AC unit was never replaced, and the portable solutions leaked and couldn't keep up. We spent much of the trip waiting for answers instead of relaxing. When I called management after checking out, I was told only Rachel could authorize a refund, but she was on vacation. When I finally spoke with her, she was dismissive and offered only 50% back or a partial credit, saying she saw camera footage of us "using the amenities" as proof we still enjoyed our stay -- which was offensive after how miserable the cabin conditions were. I want to make clear that the on-site staff and text support team were kind and empathetic, but management's handling of the situation was unacceptable. Our vacation was consumed by a broken AC, unresolved maintenance issues, and poor follow-up. I won't be returning, and I strongly suggest future guests think twice before booking. If things go wrong, you might not get proper help -- only excuses. Also just to note a lot of the cabins are lacking in condition, but for the winter price it's bearable. Either way after this experience there's better places to vacation at.

Again, perfectly clean. Cottage 7 was perfectly suited for our needs. 2 adults. Two young children and a 6mo baby. Wonderful breakfast, and again, Edgar was present and ensured top-notch conditions in the dining area. I observed families eating and enjoying their breakfasts in a very comfortable split dining area. Wonderful grounds for children to roam and play area. And the property has a new pool to cool off in and wear out the children before bedtime. I'll come back and revise this review when I have more time, but suffice it to say, you will not find a cleaner more luxuriously appointed cottage/suite than that of Gruene Homestead Inn. Try them and I'll think you'll agree. Again, highly recommended. We'll will stay here again.
