Was planning on going to Hana Sushi next door which we had tried a few days ago but the food aroma from Grumpy Jack's was very inviting and we couldn't resist. Had a very nice dinner with my grumpy husband . He seemed to enjoy his wings and even chuckled at the choir group having dinner in the back which made for a very nice and happy atmosphere. He was also very punchy after two beers on tap. He had the Merman ‍ and the wave chaser. The Wave Chaser was his favorite since the Merman was a bit too bitter for his taste buds. Which is surprising considering his usual grumpy mood. Had a very nice waitress and offered an Aperol on the rocks instead of a Spritz. It was absolutely delicious and now I only want Aperol this way! I'm Mediterranean so it is now my favorite drink! The spritz part can go spritz itself. Hey owner your waitress deserves a raise! I don't know her name but young pretty with a blonde ponytail this evening shift on Tuesday at around 8:30 pm. Our bus boy and hostess were equally courteous. These kids work hard and doing a great job here! Now let's get to the yummy food - Had two appetizers and a main to share. The calamari platter was good and so were the buffalo wings not too spicy. I tried the chicken caprese and it was delectable without being too heavy and the sauce was nice to dip the calamari appetizer in. Nice and lemony !! We finished off the other an Irish coffee the mint on top of the cream was delicious - Super great service and great establishment to visit! read more

If you want a comfy and cozy bar to go to for bar food, this is it. We went for a cute baby shower lunch in, they had a table upstairs and separate from everyone downstairs. Definitely cute and intimate. The drinks, was not what we were hoping for. A beer place for me. The coffee was extremely light but again, mind where you are going. The apps, all great. First of all bartender Mike was extremely accommodating. He was friendly and allowed us to sit in the dining area even though it was officially closed. We came here to celebrate my stepdaughter's birthday. We also invited her friendly neighbor to come along. The place is a double-storey house look alike and we were seated at a big booth downstairs. It's a big restaurant. It could occupy big and small groups--the perfect place for brunch, lunch and dinner. We had a friendly and energetic waiter and since we were too occupied with conversation, I forgot to ask for his name. He did a great job. We had the grumpy sampler to start. It was good. Then my stepdaughter ordered a chicken quesadilla. I had a grumpy omelet, and Hubby had a cowboy burger. My grumpy omelet was a bit dry but tasted good. The potato that was served with it was finely seasoned. I tried the quesadilla, not bad! I'm glad my stepdaughter enjoyed her birthday meal. We had a great time and no one was grumpy! We stopped in before seeing A Christmas Carol at Theater Three. We were seated with a group of 5 upstairs. Very comfortable. Service from start to finish was excellent. Everyone was very friendly. I had a marinated burger. It was a bit more done than I asked for but it was still juicy. Great tasting burger. The other plates were the Rasta Pasta, very tasty. A chicken dish with eggplant my mom loved it. Buffalo Popcorn Chicken was tasty. A grilled chicken salad - very nice salad. We were all very happy. Not a horrible local dive bar restaurant, some of the food that came out looked pretty good. My "Buffalo" wings were not great, kind of oily with Chile pepper flakes. Their own recipe I guess, nothing worth seeking out. If you're hungover, live in the area & want a really dark bar, this is your place. Thanks for being open late on a Monday night. We had left a funeral home and were starving. The menu is huge with something for everyone to eat. We started with appetizers. Fried clams, fried calamari, steamed clams, mozzarella sticks and the pretzel is GIGANTIC. Most of our entrees were delicious. The steak that my son had was good, as was my Reuben and my brothers burger too! We shared a chocolate peanut butter pie, brownie sundae and chocolate chip cookie sundae. Yum! read more

Stopped in to Grumpy Jacks the other day while I was working in Port Jeff for lunch with some colleagues, and I was pleasantly surprised. The exterior looks like it would be a beat up run down watering hole, but then you go inside and the interior looks pretty nice. We got a table and checked the menu, and it had a really good selection of food, lots of sandwhiches and wraps/ drinks. I got the Grilled Chicken Greek Wrap, colleague got the Buttermilk Chx Sandwhich. He liked his, I thought my wrap was really good too. Just tried to eat at Grumpy Jacks.Arrived at 610 told 15 minute wait decided to wait. Sat at a high top near bar waiting for a table and after 20 minutes was offered to stay and eat at that table or keep waiting.Too loud and uncomfortable to eat by bar so we figured wait 5-10 more minutes.Two empty tables for 5-6 and one came so I get that.Other empty still and maybe since we have eaten there many times offer a drink or get appetizers going if we wanted (not expecting on the house at all ) just common courtesy. Left after the 10 minutes after only being told it will be any minute for the last 15minutes.Business must be good hope so anyway. read more

Wife and I dropped in for dinner after a long day at work. Seated in 5 mins despite the place being packed. I ordered a burger with waffle fries and she had the fish and chips. Both delicious choices. Service was good and well attended by the staff. Decor ok. Bright enough to see the decorations. I like this place. They have wing Tuesday's and you will not be disappointed. The bar is nice , not a lot of tables but good enough. I usually get a seat by the fireplace. I'm really surprised this place gets as many negative reviews as it does. Back when I lived in the neighborhood, I used to go here all the time, but since I moved I haven't been here in years. We happened to be nearby today so we stopped by for nostalgia's sake and it was just like old times. Friendly, neighborhood atmosphere. Especially at night and on the weekends there's an "everybody knows your name" vibe among regulars. It can get QUITE loud and crowded on nights and weekends but during the day it's quiet and enjoyable. Today was a lazy Sunday and not many people in the bar or restaurant, yet it did take a while for the food to come out. My fish and chips were excellent, I got the waffle fries (some of the best around) and hubby got the Cajun burger, which today was a little overdone. There seems to be a consensus among recent yelpers that the burgers come out overdone. This had never been a problem for us in the past... maybe new cooks? My menu recommendations are the French onion soup, the chicken wings, the Shepard's pie, The fish and chips and (my absolute favorite!) the grumpy jack wrap which is steak, mozzarella and jalapeño ranch in a wrap. This is a must-try... unfortunately we went during lent so I'll just have to come back! They also have a good selection of beers both draught and bottle, one disappointment was they no longer have the Wells banana bread on tap. At least they had it bottled, but it's not the same. I'd really recommend Grumpy's to anyone. Tasty American pub fare in a welcoming atmosphere and right by the Port Jeff station (if you're waiting for a train). Good times. read more

I REALLY dislike Grumpy's. I've been here several times and it has never been a memorable experience (in a good way at least). The food isn't good -- unless you like baskets of fried junk food... think chicken tenders and fries -- and their specials aren't anything special at all. I've ordered from both the standard menu and the daily specials, and each and every time I've been disappointed and have felt instant regret after my meal. I guess if you want wings, beer and to watch a sporting event it might be ok, but I wouldn't go here for lunch or dinner ever again Also what irks me in this day and age is when an establishment doesn't have wheelchair access. Usually buddies and I go catch Sunday football at Buffalo Wings, Applebee's, etc . Tried Grumpy first time with some coworkers. Wow just walking in it was a clean rustic kind of cabin . I have found my new go-to spot! My boyfriend and I came on a Monday night and were able to find parking right up front, walk in and be greeted & have the option to sit down at the bar area or at a table of our choice! We chose to sit in the dining area and we got to pick whatever table we wanted which I really liked. Our server came right over to us and handed the menus. We came on a great night, pasta night!! I almost couldn't believe what was included! For just 17 bucks you get pasta of your choice (There was like 7 choices!!) soup or salad and a glass of the house wine. #Yaaaaas! I'm such a basic Long Island bitch so I love a good deal on food, pasta and wine haha! My boyfriend ordered Shepard pie and when our food arrived (It came really quick!) we were really taken back by the portions. They were so big!! What really counts though is how fantastic the food was. My pasta dish on top of being so large, came with 4 healthy sized pieces of the most bomb garlic bread I've ever had! My boyfriend said his Shepard's pie was very good as well and I also really liked the wine. I noticed that almost every night on week days they offer a special. Monday is pasta night, Tuesday is burger night etc. they have happy hour EVERY DAY! $5 apps and half off drinks till 7. You really can't beat the prices here! read more
