Found this AMAZING breakfast spot nearby our rental. When we arrived there was a line out the door. Fortunately the counter opened up so we grabbed it. Our waitress Devon was amazing. On point with coffee, food and a friendly smile. We split a cinnamon bun and I think I am still in a food coma. Also had the breakfast sandwich which was light but filling. Coffee was outstanding. So good we went back a second time on our trip. Ambiance is very busy but enjoyable to watch how things work. Very diner feel. Outstanding and I would give 10 stars if I could. read more

The food here is always amazing! Despite the name the staff are all super friendly and on point! We had a very large order on this last visit and no one had anything missing or done wrong! The food was hot and made just as we ordered it. Wait times to be seated can run a little long but isn't that kind of a good sign (idk)? Hands-down, the best breakfast spot in Jacksonville. I've been going to the one on Kingsley in Orange Park since it opened. It's also a favorite breakfast spot for co-workers meeting before going to work. They've since "franchised", and there are several in the Jax area - all fabulous, But much like other diners in the area, there can be long lines, so think ahead about when you're going. We also frequent the Grumpy's in Middleburg. Get the "Homey's Walking" with your breakfast (home fries deep-fried & crispy; yum!). We've had many of their menu items (caution: large portions!), always tasty and always great service. read more

If isn't Hormel canned corn beef hash, then it is another brand of canned hash. It was cooked perfectly, crispy exterior with a warm middle. I grew up eating canned hash, so I enjoyed it. My hubby didn't, and didn't care for it. Over easy eggs were done right. Grits were smooth. And the toast comes out buttered. Hubby ordered the big breakfast, which is pretty much the iHop or Denny's breakfast. Everything was cooked well. He enjoyed the pancakes, I found them to be a little tough (maybe the batter was stirred a few too many times.) Overall it was a good experience to try a locally owned restaurant. read more

Honestly I believe this is a long standing restaurant and people have grown to love it. They're wait was not bad at all. Little congested, clean, and they do get busy in the mornings. It clears out around 1200 -1300 My waitress was new but she did well. She was unfamiliar with a lot of the foods I was asking about. I love a waiter actually takes the time and try items in the menu. I'm a grits fanatic, and they were very gritty. The coffee was limited. The veggies were not done, my friend sent them back to be cooked, well done (cook them the right way the first time) they were hard. We both had coffee Meatloaf with, potatoes/gravy and veggies Avocado, egg and bacon on wheat club Food was okay, unseasoned just plain. Do understand there will most likely be a wait!! I have been here twice (SO FAR) and have had the country fried steak plate and the build your own omelette and of course the cinnamon roll!!! The country fried steak to me was delicious. The sides were delicious and seasoned good. I will probably get this again. I always ask for the gravy on the side. On this trip I got the cinnamon roll to split...with a glass of milk of course... and the only regret is that I didn't make him get his own. Our waiter we had both times was very friendly and he actually remembered us from before. Only downside I have experienced is the table by the bathroom that needs to GO AWAY!! Have had breakfast at this location for a decade. The original establishment and owners. Happy they expanded and have 50 people waiting on a Monday morning. Parking at the orange park location is horrible. But? I waited for two visits to Grumpy's before writing this. First time 40 minute wait after ordering. Food cold. Waitress answer. " they are swamped" no offer to reheat etc. yesterday? Dried out and cold scrambled eggs and greasy hardly cooked bacon. If Grumpy's going to expand they need to expand the kitchen first. Today I went to Waffle House. Better service, larger portions and served hot. A few bucks less also. So? Grumpy's? If you're going to advertise and expand ? Chilly Florida temps had dozens waiting outside and several crammed inside the tiny waiting area for 40+ wait times Sunday! Once we got to our table hot tea was my beverage of choice to warm up my fingertips and my insides~ even hubby ordered hot tea! I had been to a Yelp Elite event here recently and couldn't wait to drag hubby across the river to try them! I was thrilled to see quiche on the menu~ you hardly ever see it! And I knew I was adding those award winning crab cakes to my breakfast. Hubby ordered a 2 egg breakfast with bacon and Belgium waffle. It didn't take long for the food to crowd our tiny table~ and we dug in right away! Hubby's eggs were light and fluffy and cooked perfectly, as was his bacon. Grumpy's waffles are fantastic! At the event I attended I got to try the cinnamon roll pancakes- omgoodness they were sweet heaven! I also tried the smores waffle- something I would never order for myself- and the smells and deliciousness reminded me of camping with friend in every mouthful. The crab cakes were the hit of the show for me and I was so happy to get 2 of them in a side order! I ate both so fast I don't think hubby saw them! lol. My spinach quiche was not as great as the other dishes I have tried- not as flavorful as I would have liked. But everything else was fantastic. At Grumpy's, you're guaranteed a full-service American & Southern style diner which serves hungry-people's portions of food at a working class price. It's true, no one leaves this diner grumpy. YesterdauWe started our evening with Grumpy's fairly new Loaded Granola Bowl and ended with the Roasted Turkey Plate. The Loaded Granola Bowl was a bowl of vanilla yogurt loaded with fresh berries and sliced kiwi, brown sugar, honey, and of course the main ingredient granola. According to Grumpy's, we "sampled" miniature versions of their breakfast and lunch items such as their award-winning crab cakes and fried green tomatoes and one of Grumpy's Favorites, the Cinnabon Roll Pancakes topped with a hot cinnamon roll center, icing, walnuts, and powdered sugar (there was no need for maple syrup unless you're begging for a sugar-rush.) Following the granola bowl and pancakes, (the owner/manager) Dan Deleon excited our taste buds with two new upcoming menu item - S'Mores [Belgian] Waffles & Shrimp and Grits. Imagine digging into a bowl of hot, steamy grits smothered in a creamy shrimp, bacon, and andouille sausage concoction followed by a plate of Belgian waffles with a mound of marshmallows drizzled in chocolate sauce and whipped cream, garnished with a side display of whipped cream, a graham cracker and a chocolate bar. Then out came two miniature versions of Grumpy's meat loaf and turkey plates. The meat loaf plate was served with mashed potatoes and gravy, and dinner roll (the full-size version includes vegetables.) As for the turkey plate, Grumpy's has two different turkey plates: the roasted turkey plate and an open-faced roasted plate which I am assuming is the same as the roasted turkey plate but, looks like an open-faced sandwich. We sampled the roasted turkey plate which was served with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, and cranberry sauce (the full-size version includes vegetables and a dinner roll.) Well many of us didn't survive all six rounds. We ended up nibbling on the meat loaf plate and Grumpy's prepared our roasted turkey plates as a to-go order. If what is featured in some of my photos are sample sizes, imagine Grumpy's full-size version of the same dish(es.) I had a humongous food baby after the Grumpy's Not So Grumpy Breakfast & PJ Party. I felt as if I woke up drove over to Grumpy's then got back in bed after a round of yoga and a walk around the neighborhood (to stretch my belly.) This food adventure wasn't my first rodeo at Grumpy's. During my first visit, I ordered their Greek Omelet. During my second visit, I ordered their Stack-in-a-Sack which was loaded with onions, spices, and provolone cheese all wrapped up in a sack of deliciousness served with a side of french fries. During my third visit, I ordered one of Grumpy's Favorites - the full size version of their Cinnamon Roll Pancakes. If there's any room for improvement, I would've added a little more salt and pepper for taste in the grits and stuffing but the shrimp concoction and turkey smothered in gravy was magically, delicious. read more

I hadn't been in a couple years and while it was just as packed as I remembered, the wait was quite short. I ate at the diner single seat since it was busy even though I hate sitting there typically. It wasn't that bad except for the random yelling of "RUNNERS" or whatever she kept saying. I had the everything chicken biscuit which was new for me and it was cooked to perfection; light and crispy but also soft and juicy unlike some other biscuit places that leave you feeling heavy like an extra 20 pounds is in your belly. The spicy sweet jelly that came with it was amazing and I poured it all over. I ordered cheese grits cup and it was so fancy I almost laughed out loud. This is not the Grumpy's I remembered! She told us about the original owners and how they are looking forward to franchising. There for Jax restaurant reviews, the first thing I noticed was the expeditor. That is a great way to make sure all the orders from the kitchen are correct and maintained great quality. The place is family friendly and has many tables. The food portion is huge! My wife thinks the food here is great. To be fair. I am not a breakfast fan which is why I decided to go with a steak in a sack. My wife also wanted to pick up some fried tomatoes along with waffles and berries "for later". The to-go container was sweating which meant the SIAC and tomatoes were pretty soggy by the time she got home. I bet it would have been much better fresh. As usual we had a large party (7) and everyone was hungry. I called and was told they don't take reservations but have room for a party of our size. We arrived and waited about 40 minutes for a table. Forty minutes was definitely worth the wait! Portions were amazing as well as the taste. So you ask, why only four stars? Grumpy's should move into a larger space. It is super tight in there, like stuffing soda cans into coffee mugs. We will definitely be going back once the St. Johns location opens. read more

I have heard so much about Grumpy's that I finally got a chance to try them out earlier this year. Since then, I've been hooked and try to come whenever I can. The last time I made the trip, I brought the guy I've been dating for about a month at 6 AM, and now he's hooked! Even at 6 AM, Grumpy's was already half full of early bird seniors and I was pleasantly surprised. Grumpy's is well known for their breakfast and lunch, and their famous freshly squeezed orange juice. So far, I've had the Grumpy's Benedict, the country fried steak, and the fried chicken benedict. Portions are HUGE AF and so delicious. You better make sure you come hungry so you can finish everything on your plate! I've been with company each time I've came and they all also enjoyed their meals. Eventually, I want to order everything on their menu. Service is always very friendly, quick and excellent. Even the one time that I came with a date at 11 AM, there was considerable wait, but it was only about a 30 minutes wait, as they are pretty quick. There is giant Jenga, giant connect 4 and corn hole out in the back for you and your family or friends to stay occupied while waiting for your name to be called in. There is plenty of parking as well; I suggest when you drive in, drop someone off to go and put a name in for your party while you go find a parking spot. One of our favorite brunch restaurants to visit! Make sure to come in early or maybe after 1 pm to make sure you can get a table immediately, otherwise you have to wait. They serve the usual breakfast such as pancakes, chicken and waffles, plus burgers and sandwiches for lunch, and drinks too which includes coffee and mimosas. Yes, Grumpy's is a popular breakfast and lunch place. For me, they have the best Shrimp and Grits in town! The grits is smooth, infused with smoked Gouda cheese and roasted poblano peppers, topped with jumbo shrimp and smoked sausage and made with light house sauce with lemon juice, Louisiana hot sauce plus scallions, fresh bacon, tomatoes and freshly grated smoked Gouda cheese! Seems like there's a lot going on with these ingredients, but it was absolute perfection! ! I just wish it will be part of their regular menu. You can quickly tell this place is a local favorite, that is also pouring with tourist.. and they welcome you all the same. The staff is awesome, quick, efficient, and quite funny. I sat at the bar and just watched and they didn't miss a beat! My favorite chicken benedict type breakfast WAS at Maple Street Biscuit. Not any more. This dish is phenomenal. The chicken was crispy and perfectly cooked. The biscuit was light and fluffy. The hollandaise was rich and creamy. The fried jalapeno slices added the perfect kick to the dish. I would change nothing. It needed no extra salt, pepper, nothing. The biggest compliment I can add to this dish is that the egg was poached to absolute perfection. I love benedicts but do not order them often as the eggs are normally overcooked. The Grumpy's Seafood Omelette was beyond words. My wife did not say a word when eating it as talking would take away from its greatness. The eggs were cooked to perfection. Great amount of seafood in it. It was seasoned perfectly. To add even more, the waitress was attentive and polite and pleasant and professional. We were in the restaurant barely 50 minutes, including the time we waited for a table. We never felt rushed or hurried. Great, great dining experience.
