It's been quite a while since we've been here. We used to come here all the time in the late 90's to the early 2000's and for whatever reason we stopped coming. Grinders came up in a conversation again while we were in the area. Came for lunch. It's a seat yourself establishment. It's definitely a local favorite. A lot of older gentleman eating here. They have a burger special today and as we recall that's we really enjoyed about this place. Comes with fries. The burger didn't disappoint. It was cooked and prepared perfectly. Got the famous sweet tea today. A little on the sweet side. I did a few laps like I had the zoomies from the sweet tea. We need to come back and get the breakfast! We will definitely be coming back on a regular schedule. Why we stopped coming I have no idea. read more

When we first arrived, my spouse and I didn't know what to expect. It's located in a quiet strip mall. We hadn't been to any diners since we moved to Jax but figured we'd give it a try. It's an older place. Been around since the 80s. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and seated at a booth. We noticed an elderly demographic which speaks to the longevity of the establishment. Conversations being had at every table. There were so many options to choose from on the menu. I just had to try the steak and eggs. The steak is made to order and came out perfectly medium. My wife had a cheese omlette which she enjoyed very much. We have returned once after our initial visit and intend on being regular customers. I tried their fish and cheese grits on my last visit as well. Let me tell you....It does not disappoint. I give this place 2 thumbs up! You will love it read more

Read good things about this place and we're out and about kinda early so we stopped in to see what all the fuss was about. Really local vibe. Really busy but we sat ourselves pretty quick right by a window. Server came over after a few minutes and got our drink order. Menu is pretty large so we were not ready to order. So I grabbed the Original Grinder. Had to try the OG. Very fresh. Lite dressing and really good bread. Really good. Also had the Tots. Maybe a little over done but they were tasty. Deb got the Biscuits and Sausage Gravy Breakfast. Gravy was really good with lite fluffy biscuits. The reviews and hype are real. It's been over a year since my last review, and this place has become a Saturday tradition for me and friends who come in from all over town. Prices have gone up (like everywhere), but the food and service are still spot on. I used to be all about their corned beef hash, but lately I've been hooked on my own little creation: spicy smoked sausage with cheese on raisin toast. Sounds odd, but trust me... don't knock it till you try it. April is our go-to waitress, and she's always amazing. Friendly, attentive, and makes sure we're taken care of every time. Terrific food, outstanding service, good variety! April was perfect, patient and professional in her service.

My daughter had the Country Breakfast (what I had our first time in). I had Short Stack, Banana and Pecans Combo with a side of sausage links. The pancakes are delicious and fluffy. The sweet tea wasn't good today. It tasted watered down, so we switched to sprite. That tasted off as well, so we ended up with water but I still paid for the teas although we didn't drink the tea or the soda. Overall, we had a great second experience. read more

I was getting my car serviced at Nissan less than a mile away. My friend picked me up, and we stopped in for breakfast. I found Grinder's American Diner on Yelp with four stars. I'm giving five stars. My sausage gravy and biscuits were delicious. The gravy consistency was perfect, not too thin or thick. And was packed with flavor. The biscuits were light and fluffy yet huge. My scrambled eggs with cheese were cooked perfectly! My friend enjoyed her breakfast too. She did say she had tried better fried green tomatoes. Our server was friendly and checked in regularly. It was an old school diner feel with a family vibe. I could tell several patrons were regulars. Always a good indication! There was also outdoor seating available. I grew up coming here with my dad for breakfast. It's a ma and pop shop for a good home cooked meal. They have breakfast and lunch options and probably the same staff as the day it opened, the service is pretty good. It's definitely a spot that mainly the older community goes to but don't let that deter you from going for a good meal, when you walk in the door you'll feel like you went back in time a few years because this place has been frozen in time. We finally tried Grinders recently, which I am very glad. It's how you'd picture a local diner would be like. We went for breakfast. I ordered ribeye with scramble eggs with side of grits and hubby tried their corn beef and hash. Both were pretty good. I like the atmosphere, the no non-sense, speedy and friendly service. I think this is going to be one of our routine breakfast joints going forward. read more

Tried this place out while visiting the beach. I was not disappointed! The grits with cheese was amazing and the eggs and bacon was no disappointment as well. The gravy was delicious as well. Went two days for breakfast. 2 of us. Had the chicken fried chicken, eggs and omelet. Food was excellent. The fried chicken was the winner (ha - winner winner chicken dinner) - it was kinda light (for fried chicken) and tasty. The biscuits are worth the trip alone. The service was outta this world. We got there at opening on Sunday morning and there was a line. This is the kinda place the customers know each other and the waitresses know the customer's names. We had the same waitress both days and she recognized us the second day (not totally due to my rugged handsomeness) and remembered the drink order. Good prices too. My family and I like to explore some parts of the city by taking a long nice walk then finishing off by hitting a new brunch spot after. Needless to say we come hungry. Grinders it was for the day. Local. Pretty busy. You seat yourself and we had no trouble for a family of 3. Cleanliness - flies everywhere. This was kind of icky but it is what it is. The tables appeared to be decently wiped down. Food: pancakes came a little burnt. Disappointing. Because they start to taste bitter and chewy after that. Did a make your own omelette and this was probably the best thing we ordered. Cheese grits were regular grits with a slice of cheese on top. Wasn't horrible. Hubs got a bfast platter with bacon, eggs, potatoes.. nothing special but it was good enough. Overall worth a try but not sure if we would choose this place again. read more

Grinders is a down home good breakfast. Nothing flashy and all delicious. Large portion, friendly staff, we always enjoy our visits. My mom is a pilot at Craig and it's her favorite place to grab breakfast for breakfast or breakfast for lunch. Great old school local place! read more

We just chose a random place from Apple Maps on our way home from vacation. It's very much giving "diner" vibes. No special decor or anything. Our server, sorry I didn't catch her name, was amazing! She took out orders and brought them back and not a single mistake or anything missing. She was so warm and friendly. Considering how hungry we were, I didn't get a single picture but believe me when I tell you the food was fantastic. We had everything from fish and cheese grits, to French toast, to biscuits and gravy. Sausage links, sausage patties, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, you name it, we had it and it was all so good!! Oh and blueberry cobbler to go. So I haven't tasted it yet. I would recommend and will return when we're in the area again. read more

I have been ordering breakfast from Grinders for years. However, today I was hungry for something different and Grinders always meets my craving expectations. Except this time, I ordered the "Create your own Burger" Guys, I did the the 8 ounce and let me tell you....this is the best burger I have had in a very long time!!!
