As I entered the parlor, it is a hole in the wall with minimal seating and no AC unit. Regardless that it wasn't fancy, I still had a very gut instinct the quality of their pies was going to be on the money. When I arrived a weekday afternoon to place my order, the cashier informed me there will be a 40 minute wait. For the fact that the wait is this long indicates there are in demand and their pizza is top quality. I also saw framed plaques along their table counter showing they received positive media recognition from The Record, northjersey.com, and bestofnj.com. Hot Honey Heaven: I was initially skeptical about the appearance of this pie because it looks kind of messy. However, I took a single bite and was immediately hooked. This pie was topped with pepperoni, crispy chicken, and ricotta cheese. Mike's Hot Honey was generously poured over the top. It has a combination of sweet and spiciness. I never anticipated honey would enhance the flavor of the pie; I wish I requested an extra cup! Grumpy's Triple Threat: Named after the restaurant, this pie is prepared with pesto, grandma sauce, and pink tomato sauce. The sprinkled parmigiano reggiano added a nice touch. I especially liked the artistic appearance. The three colors were visually appealing, especially with the swirls of pesto. All pies are prepared with their signature sourdough pizza crust. Each slice had a perfect undercarriage and a firm crunch. Customers have the option to bake the pies may light, medium, or well-done. I chose medium because a majority of the customer base prefers this style. As a bonus, Grumpy's offer complimentary crust upgrades. I opted to add garlic butter brush; the outer crust edge was literally brushed with hot, garlic-infused butter. While it is common to throw away the top portion of the pizza, the upgrade is definitely an incentive to eat the crust. San Marzano tomatoes are the primary ingredient for the sauce. It's not overly sweet and has a light tang. This pizzeria is geared for take out, but there are plenty of benches only minutes away at Saddle River County Park. You can enjoy your pie while admiring the beautiful scenery of the park. The parking lot has limited spaces, but you can easily find a spot on the street. Tried this place for the first time after picking up an order for a group. They have some fun and interesting pizza options, and I decided to go with the classic personal pie. A heads-up if you're driving: parking can be a little difficult. There's a sign pointing to parking in the rear, but the lot is pretty small. You may be better off parking on a side street and walking over. I went just before the lunch hour, and the line was already out the door. They were also getting plenty of phone calls, so they definitely seem to have a busy business going. As for the pizza, the taste was good overall. The dough was a little tough and seemed possibly overdone, and the type of cheese they use made the pizza feel a bit greasy. That said, I'd be willing to try it again. Next time, I might skip the personal pie and try a different size or style to see if that makes a difference. I've seen this spot pop-up on my socials a lot recently, so I decided to place an order on a day I had errands around this business. First off, I did a call-in order (very 2000s, I know). I could tell the business was very busy, but I was so surprised that despite being surrounded by the "crazy" she was doing her best to suggest what she liked and then after speaking a bit, what I might like. She was very helpful and considerate despite me calling during the "lunch rush". I came into the business --- small but efficient space --- and it was a quick transaction. My kind of place. As I was eating for 1, I didn't want to be a true "big-back", new year, new resolutions. I just got a 10' Neo Margherita Pizza + Parmesan Peppercorn Bone-In Wings. So the thing that makes Grumpy's stand-out and different from the competition? Boy oh boy, that crust. It is sourdough, it is crisp, it is light, it is so complimentary to anything that goes on it. Probably the best pizza I've had in a very long time!!! My son & I were on the way home from his private school entrance exam and as a treat I told him we could get some pizza. We came here and there were a ton of people waiting for their orders. A few chairs along the window, but it's definitely a take out place. It was about 7:45 when we arrived and they told us it would be about a 30min wait for our order. They were not grumpy at all, very nice in fact! We waited in our car. I was a victim to social media marketing on a Saturday morning as I scrolled through my TikTok and saw that Dave Portnoy reviewed this place a couple of days ago. I was intrigued by the sourdough aspect to this place and decided to stop by. We got the regular cheese and the drunk chicken parm, both personal pies (they don't do individual slices). Now I'm sure they've gotten so popular after Dave's visit (rightfully so), and we waited about 30 min for our pizzas, and even got to meet the owner. Definitely worth the wait!! Fried oreos knocked it out of the park too. it's takeout only and by the time I got home my pizza was kinda floppy which I could get but after air frying it was still kinda chewy. Pizza on sourdough bread? Count me in. Grumpy's Pizza looks to be the place everyone likes to hang out in SaddleBrook. You walk in and you feel you are part of the family. Small scale, a lot of love built in to this place with a lot of creating happening between the dough behind the glass or the sauces being assembled to the side. It's a good kinda busy to walk into when you are waiting. I ordered The Grumpy Pie. After reading the framed articles by the window, I didn't know the owner liked the order too. I thought it was pretty cool. My husband ordered his pie and a side of wings. My Grumpy Pie was flavorful. A little too much sauce for me, however if you love burrata, you gotta try this out. What an incredibly amazing Pizza place! Old school! No it's not fancy in there but you can grab a slice and eat at a counter. The owners and staff are friendly as can be and most importantly, this is without question the best pizza in New Jersey. Awesome pizza! I really enjoyed the sourdough crust. I actually liked the classic better than the veggies. Hankering for pizza not only satisfied but also energized to comeback for more! Small shop with limited parking in the back. They have the option to sit inside but it's also limited seating too. The owner greeted us warmly and took our order. I was set on the personal white pizza. Got it with regular crust and added extra mushrooms (it's portobello). Received our order between 10-15 minutes. Had to take it to-go as our baby was tired and getting restless. The pizza box had a few sprigs of basil inside that made opening the box a lovely experience. Not only was the pizza cooked to perfection, the taste was on point too! The white sauce was perfect, not too much or too little. The ricotta was on every bite. And the mushrooms were plentiful! After trying Grumpys 3 times I can confidently say it is my only pizza place I will go to from here. I've had the sliders, sub, and multiple pizzas and they were all fantastic. I don't usually order sauces on the side but tried the pink and the red and I was blown away with how good the red sauce was. Me and my sister absolutely loved the garlic knots.
