The vibe here is dark, intimate, and gives off a chic city nightlife feel. They offer both a full cocktail menu and a happy hour menu. They also offer a Thai tapas menu, which we unfortunately didn't get to try because we were already stuffed from dinner at Talay, but the menu looked amazing and gives us another reason to come back! The drinks are unique, creative, and very well crafted. We ordered the Celestial Bloom, and it was absolutely delicious! It was beautifully balanced and left us wanting to come back just to try more of their cocktails. Definitely a great spot for drinks before or after dinner!

The hidden door which you push is on the right side. Once inside the bar it is super small inside. The tables along the wall are squished together. I think you're better off at the bar. I could see lots of people bringing dates here. First up, I tried a $17 Tree of Life. The drink the bartender made me was maybe 2 sips. There's a giant ice cube and a bamboo leaf or something and very little drink to drink. Not sure what to make of this because as soon as I was deciding if I liked it or not, it was gone. Wouldn't order this again. Second, I tried a $17 Adam & Eve. I wish the matcha was much stronger. There's a place in Tampa called Tori Bar that has a super duper matcha tasting cocktail. This one was much lighter. It was fine, not my favorite. Maybe I'd bring a date here sometime, but wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

After months of anticipation... I finally made it to Alfie's…read more It was exactly what I was hoping it would be: a slice of culture. Real people. Real life. Real youth. Real energy. Real good vibes. Orlando obviously has no shortage of places to eat, drink, and gather, but Alfie's belongs to that rare category of venues that feel equally at home in a major metropolis. It's the kind of spot that would fit seamlessly into Los Angeles's best neighborhoods: think Gold Line in Highland Park or the Vinyl Room at the Hollywood Palladium. Not because they're carbon copies, but because they share that intangible quality of genuine discovery and cultural curiosity. The crowd ( age range 25 - 35 mostly ) was genuinely engaged with one another. People were actually talking, actually present, not hunched over their phones. That alone felt invigorating. There was an undeniable spark in the room. Alfie's wasn't chasing trends; it was simply allowing them to emerge naturally. What impressed me most was how they brought it all together .. Retro stereo equipment and vinyl players from the 50s mixed with a bar area that's super sleek and modern. Conversations, music, the lounge itself .... all came together in a way that felt alive and IN THE MOMENT. When my LA friends visit, Alfie's is on the list. Go after 9 or 10 PM and plan to stay for at least two hours. That's when you really see the scene develop and come alive. Bring your ID: they card at the door. Even at my age, I still get carded. No complaining about that ! lol

The modern décor paired with classic Cuban music playing in the background created a classy, vibrant space with incredible energy and character. The standout dish of the night was, without question, the Squash & Burrata Salad. OH. MY. WORD. This may be one of my favorite dishes I've had all year. It was refreshing, slightly spicy, and packed with so much depth and texture. Every bite was perfectly balanced and left us wanting more. We also tried the lamb lollipops with cilantro-mint sauce and lemon garlic vinaigrette. The lamb was cooked flawlessly, tender and flavorful. The sauces complemented it well, although the vinaigrette leaned a little heavy on the lemon/vinegar for our taste. For our entrée, we shared the whole grilled snapper, and it was phenomenal. The fish was incredibly tender and well executed with savory and light garnishes. We especially loved the pickled peppers and the green sauce. The combination of mango and passion fruit was something I never would have expected to work so well, but the chef absolutely nailed it. To finish, we enjoyed the classic Cuban guava y queso pastelitos, which were the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. Great food, awesome vibes, thoughtful execution, and a unique Cuban-inspired menu. We'll definitely be back!

It evokes another era, the 1930s and 1940s, a hidden place where people escaped reality for a few hours and where every whispered conversation felt a little more dangerous than it should. There is something about saying the name out loud that feels almost mischievous. Even before stepping inside, it conjures images of old Hollywood glamour, forbidden romance, and the kind of longing that filled classic films. The sort of place where people met not because they had to, but because they couldn't stay away. The space itself more than lives up to the promise of its name. Death in the Afternoon is one of the most visually interesting places Orlando has to offer. It feels intimate, mysterious, and wonderfully removed from the ordinary. I couldn't help but think of The Great Gatsby, not because of excess or extravagance, but because of that same sense of romance, possibility, and yearning for something just out of reach. In fact, I visited twice in the same afternoon. My first stop was simply to satisfy my curiosity and see if the reality matched the image I had built up in my head. It did. So after completing the rest of my three-hour Mills 50 walk, I found myself drawn back for a meal and a chance to enjoy the atmosphere a little longer. The menu is limited, so choose wisely. The salmon entrée was excellent and easily the standout of my meal. The Caesar salad was pleasant enough, but the salmon is what I would come back for. As a perfect ending to the day, a dear longtime Yelp colleague joined me and we spent some time catching up on the latest news and gossip in our circles. Good conversation, a memorable meal, and an atmosphere that feels like it belongs to another time. Death in the Afternoon is not just a restaurant. It's the kind of place that stays on your mind long after you've left. Make sure your stay is not over 2 hours tho ..

The vibe is laid-back, the music is at a good volume, and it's a great place to enjoy dinner and drinks without feeling rushed. To start, we ordered the croquettes and the Caesar salad bites. The croquettes were very good and something I would absolutely order again. The Caesar salad bites, however, completely stole the show. They were insane and are a must-order every time I come back. For our entrees, we ordered the rigatoni and the chicken. This was my second time getting the rigatoni, and it was just as good as I remembered. Rich, flavorful, and easily one of my favorite dishes on the menu. The chicken was also very good and cooked well. That said, if you're looking for a protein entrée, I'd still recommend the tomahawk. My group ordered it on my first visit, and it's still one of the best dishes I've had here. The cocktails were excellent as well. I started with the Forbidden Bloom, which was fantastic. I also tried the Split Personality (Not pictured). It wasn't my favorite, but that's more a reflection of my taste since I'm not much of a whiskey drinker. I've also had the espresso martini on a previous visit, and it was phenomenal. Overall, Lamp & Shade continues to impress. Great service, excellent food, creative cocktails, and an atmosphere that keeps me coming back. Easily one of my favorite spots in the Mills area.

But I…read morelive in San Francisco, spend time around DJs and nightlife, and am not generally afraid of a loud room. I just apparently still believe that when oysters and $47 pasta appear on a menu, one should be able to hear the person sitting across the table. To be fair, the service throughout the evening was excellent and attentive, and the bourbon drinks ("Filthy Behavior") were genuinely good. We also ordered the croquettes, Caesar salad bites, 12 oysters, the spicy rigatoni with lump crab, golden rice with shrimp, and a discounted prosecco because it was oyster/prosecco Tuesday. The pasta itself was cooked properly, and the golden rice ended up being the least salty thing we ate, which unfortunately made it the standout. Everything else tasted as though the kitchen had recently suffered a tragic misunderstanding involving seawater. At one point we asked if the music was usually this loud because we genuinely couldn't hear each other speak. Our server kindly said she would check on it, but either management said no or the DJ entered a blood oath with the sound system. Conversation had become theoretical. Maybe this is the vibe now. Maybe dining is no longer about the food and meaningful conversation, with lighting so oddly bright--less intimate dinner, more "the club is closing, please locate your belongings"--while paying $220 for two people with automatic gratuity included. For me, the whole experience felt wildly overpriced--ordinary food dressed in extraordinary.
