I have been using GTs for years, as they are my trusted mechanics. In the past they have caught were other shops have lied to me with safety inspections. They have done several large jobs for me to keep my older vehicles running. They also find ways to save you money if you are replacing items where they are already in there anyway. Tom and his mechanics are very, very trustworthy. I won't go anywhere else. They explain the problems, always quote a very fair price (excellent pricing) and will work with you on options. They keep a look out for wear and tear and potential areas that may require attention in the future. Under $30 for an oil change with filter. I decided to give this place a try because it's very close to my house. Tom is awesome. I brought my car in to have a look over due to my mileage a creeping over 125,000 and a slow oil leak. I left my car and within a few hours Tom called to discuss a list of items to review. He broke it down into options for me listing what he would do today if it was his car, what I had time to do but should start thinking about doing in the next 6-12 months with pricing. Tom knew what I wanted before I could even ask for it. Because of my great experience I took my car back for the second time because I had a light pop on. Tom told me to come after work. This was a Friday night and he stayed late to work with me. He did some research on the light and even called my dealership to press the issue of why they weren't covering a replacement for possible faulty sensor light they fixed due to a recall a few months earlier. Today while heading to Target on Big Bend my car started acting weird. Then died just as I got over the hill by the QT. I coasted into that gas station parking lot and pulled to the last set of pumps. Got out and opened the hood to find one of the belts busted and hanging there. Realizing gas wasn't going to fix the problem(grin)...I headed across to GT's Automotive to see what they could do. I've been in other auto repair shops in the St. Louis area and have wanted to scream. These other trips were planned trips to get something repaired only to be told it was going to be hundreds of dollars to fix something as simple as having the brake pads changed on my car. Being a single mom I felt like I was being taken advantage of every time I tried to get my car fixed. So I was stressing as to how much this unexpected repair was going to run me. Tom was busy with other cars he was trying to fix but he said he would take a look at the car. I was going to try and push the car from the gas station to his shop with the help of my nephew but he said no that he could go put a "jump pack" on it to at least get it started to drive across to his shop. He kept apologizing that it was taking him so long with the other car and assured me that he would get my car in to take a look. He took the time to inspect the belt that had busted off and explain what he thought might be the problem. When he got the car in there..he kept coming back to the waiting area to tell me what he was finding...he did an awesome job keeping me posted as to what he had to do to make sure that nothing else was broken that might have caused the belt to break. He also checked out the alternator to make sure it was working and that the battery was charging back up. He explained that the battery I had was only 2 yrs old but that he was concerned it wasn't charging properly while on a battery charger..it should have charged more than it did for the time he had it on there. Also when he got the belt on the battery was so drained still the car wouldn't start. He had a battery in stock and explained my options. He didn't pressure me to buy the battery and said it was totally up to me. I chose to purchase the battery just for peace of mind and becuase I called a family member who is a mechanic and they agreed that the battery in the car was prolly damaged from the alternator not being hooked up cause of the broken belt. Also he didn't have the belt I needed in the shop so he called to have that delivered right away. He could have just said he couldn't fix it and that I would have to leave the car until monday. It took a few hours to get everything back up and running but my nephew and i just hung out in the waiting room. Tom has 25+ years experience working on cars and is a hoot to talk with!! This Auto repair shop has been open about a year and a half at this location. I SO RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! While he was writing up our slip another lady stopped and was having issues with her Kia being stuck in 4wd and he was like "no problem" I can take a look as soon as I get done here!! Best experience I have ever had getting my car fixed EVER!!!!
