This is a small seat yourself Mexican restaurant, ordered chicken tacos, the chicken looked and tasted like chicken in a can, you get 2 tacos and a few chips for $10.00. Daughter got Cheese Quesadilla, basic can't really screw it up. Chips & Salsa as an appetizer were ok. Menu is very small with just basic items, service was ok. I came back here today after not being here since 2021-2022. I was specifically looking forward to the nachos because they've always been delicious. However, the menu is now cut down to barely anything. They give you stale chips with small cups of "dip" like queso, salsa and guac. I'm confused why we can't get nachos? I know you all have cheese, meats and everything needed to make the nachos??? Additionally they took burritos and salads off the menu - all things that can be made from the ingredients that are in other dishes. So I just have to wonder why? Also the portions are tiny for the amount of money. $13 for two tacos and a handful of stale tortilla chips? Additionally, our waitress brought our bill while we were eating and returned within 5 minutes asking if we were ready to pay. No, Hannah, I am still eating? This place has gone downhill so far. I'm honestly heartbroken. My wife and I came here 4 years ago on a parents' getaway. We love Mexican and we were so stoked when we found this place. There was a big menu, great drinks, it sits facing the street/parking lot/ocean. We have gone back every year since as a tradition but this summer, 2024, will be our last. The place was completely empty on a Taco Tuesday in the summer. The servers were not professional looking at all. The drinks were awful. Our order was messed up and the cook and server were arguing about who messed up behind the bar. They didn't comp anything to make up for messing up our order. My boyfriend and I concluded our Maine road trip by stopping at the nostalgic York beach on our way home. Everywhere had a wait so we decided to try this restaurant. Mistake. The bar tender practically ignored us the entire time, it was nearly 10 minutes before we were even greeted by her- the place was not even busy. We went long periods of time without her even looking over to our end of the bar. A waitress had come take our order for us. We are both servers and are very patient/understanding with fellow industry workers- but this was insane. Drinks were OK, just ok. It was impossible to get any workers attention, waitresses were blatantly sitting on their phones, they were standing around talking, just not doing their job. Staff was young, which is fine but there was nobody in charge it seemed. Sitting with your food in front of you and not having silverware is pretty frustrating, especially watching the workers ignore you. When I came in there were dirty plates at the end of the bar.. they stayed there my entire visit.. two new parties had came and left & the dishes were not cleaned up... I wanted to do it myself. The food was bland. Little to no flavor, extremely long wait time (place wasn't even busy). I don't mind waiting for my food, as long as it's food worth waiting for. (The refried beans were terrifying, we both left this restaurant hungry). The thing that REALLY ruined this experience though- was disturbing. A woman (I presume the dishwasher?) was repeatedly bringing dishes/plates out of the kitchen. I look over at one point and she's holding the part of the fork our MOUTH goes on. I look again the next time she comes out and she's scratching her arm.... WITH FORKS.... THEN PUTS THEM WITH THE CLEAN SILVERWARE. I am not exaggerating and I wish I could pull up camera footage. Disgusting, we asked for the check immediately. This experience put a damper on the end of a great vacation. If the service was good, we probably wouldn't be so upset. There is much opportunity for worthy restaurants in that location, there's also opportunity to make some great cash as a server/bar tender- too bad these workers are not taking advantage of that. If you're traveling from out of town, please don't go out of your way for this place. It is an overpriced Chipotle that's best part is it proximity to the beach. It cost over 80 bucks for our family of four which includes two kids under five to eat dinner. 13 dollars for chips with a "flight" of queso, guac and pico that maybe was two tablespoon. Each dinner included chips and all together our four meals had about 15-20 chips altogether. When I asked for more pico with my dinner, it wasn't an issue until I got charged four dollars for it. Sad that this was where we dediced to spend our vacation dinner but hopefully this review will help someone else. read more

Weve loved Guac-N-Roll for many years and always made it our first night dinner. Last night was atrocious. There are only 11 items on the menu (and most were repetitious) - no nachos or burritos. No street corn that we've always loved. It felt like my teenagers made dinner - quesadillas and tacos - tomatoes, sour cream, lettuce only. My "chips on the side" were SIX CHIPS... SIX!!! Our server was entirely uncomfortable in her role, meek and couldn't answer any questions, she seemed petrified to come near the table. We mustered through and kindly thanked our server at the end but will not be back unless an overhaul happens. We stopped by here post-dinner to grab some drinks to conclude the night, so this review won't be about the food! I had their strawberry lemonade cocktail which was okay! It tasted mostly of lemonade- its tartness was one of the more prevalent flavors. I couldn't really taste the strawberry at all! The boozy component of the drink makes itself known a few sips in, so it definitely sneaks up on ya. The Coke and Rum cocktail, however,​ was a miss. We found this place during a rainstorm in York and thanks to their large overhang, we were still able to dine outside and look out at the beach. Easily made available vegetarian options into vegan ones - and their fresh salsa Is out of this world (though not very spicy, which may or may not be a bad thing for you). They do supplement with plenty of different hot sauces. Lots of options for kids and fast, friendly service. Highly recommend for vegans in York and families -- and dining during rainstorms! Judging by the similar reviews, they have some big problems (that translate into lousy experiences!) at Guac n Roll!! Our party was greeted by a young waitress who appeared so uncomfortable, it was awkward. Downhill from there. Everyone around us who arrived after, got food before we did, waitress blamed it on the kitchen when we asked, yet we watched her scurry over to enter the order she had obviously forgot. Served our apps with our meals, even though we asked specifically for the apps to come first. Food was wrong, and tasted poor to fair. Service sluggish and miserable, table was sticky and I cleaned it myself, on and on ... We noticed they were empty when we arrived, yet everywhere else had long waits.... lesson learned. read more

The potential is there for this to be a great place to eat. The food is yummy BUT it is over shadowed by the customer dining experience. We arrived at 6:30 and were told it would be a 25 minute wait. Soon after we were seated, a grouo of 11 barges in without waiting and seated without a wait AND without being told that there is a delay in food and drink service!!! SuggestionsComments: If there is a delay that doubles the wait time indicated to a customer... acknowledge the extended wait time. After such a delay, then knowing there will be further delay in food service, perhaps offer complimentary chips and salsa/guacamole ... a drink. Something to compensate for the negative experience. When someone orders a Chimi Carne Taco and the core ingredient of the dish (chimichurri) is missing because you ran out ... perhaps the customer should be told that when ordering. If you are short staffed then reflect that in the wait time. Need a strong manager or a manager to support staff. read more

Additionally we order the kids quesadilla with pork, which came out looking delicious and the kids snarfed it down. Our piña colada sangria was excellent. The food here is great! They only have one chef in the kitchen which I think is so impressive the kitchen worker can get that much done. The atmosphere is fantastic. Nice open front and many seating options with a bar inside! The music and decor suit the 'Mexican' theme perfectly. Today, Nick and Brynn were the servers. I HIGHLY recommend you have them serve you they're fantastic. Nick was the bartender and I can tell he knows his stuff. The drinks he make are beautiful and he is so kind to all his customers. You can tell he wants each and every customer to have a great experience. Brynn, besides the fact she is drop-dead-gorgeous, is so sweet to everyone she helps. She's incredibly on top of her tasks and keeps a beautiful smile on her face at the same time. We ordered a salad and steak fajitas - ordered extra grilled veggies for the salad, which ended up costing five dollars for about a tablespoon of old zucchini... The steak in the steak fajitas was definitely sub par, and I have honestly never had worse guacamole... It must've either been sitting around for a very long time or had just been taken out of some package. And on top of all that, even the refried beans were bad - presented on a cookie sheet in a way that appeared a lot like cat barf.I cannot recommend ever eating here it was simply dreadful. read more

Didn't know what to expect from a Mexican restaurant in Maine but we were very pleasantly surprised. They were able to accommodate our party of 12 after a short wait. The restaurant is fairly small with a casual vibe. Margaritas came out quickly and were refreshing. Most of our party opted for tacos as they were $2 off (Taco Tuesday!!) and everyone seemed to be happy with what they got. The star of the show was the Mexican street corn. I easily could have eaten five of them. The only oddity was that the utensils were plastic (not sure if that was COVID related). We will definitely return on our next trip to York Beach read more

We came here recently while on vacation for a weekend in York and what a mistake. As everyone has already mentioned, chips and salsa are not included which is beyond insane for a Mexican restaurant. The food is extremely over priced. My girlfriend and I both got quesadillas and left hungry with almost $40 less in my wallet. That's right, FOURTY DOLLARS. So as if this wasn't bad enough, my girlfriend was up all night sick to her stomach. I figured I was lucky as I was feeling decent. But sure enough, the next morning rolled around and we were both taking turns in the bathroom (without getting into too much detail). Because we live in York and like to try new restaurants and support local businesses, and the fact that we LOVE Mexican style food, we wen to Guac and Roll and sat outside on a weeknight. Our server was very nice, but slow. Our table tipped back and forth, but I put a napkin under one of the legs to make it better. We ordered margaritas which took about 10 minutes to get and I ordered the fajitas and my fiance ordered two different types of tacos, one being a fish taco. We had wings for our app. I had read that the wings were amazing. Whoever said that must have ate different wings than we did, because ours were dried out and gross. You can get better wings at the Wing Bar at Hannaford Supermarket. When our food came it was immediately disappointing for me. My fajitas were black. I told my fiance, "I thought I ordered chicken, not steak". Turns out it WAS chicken, it was just burnt to a crisp, along with the veggies on the skillet. My fiance said his first taco was good, but the fish taco he spit out into his napkin because it tasted spoiled. They did take that taco off our check. Our second round of drinks took even longer than the first and we were done with dinner before they arrived (we ordered them when our meals came). We drank them anyway. From when our second round was finished to when we actually got the check on the table was about 20 mintues. It took another 10 minutes to get the credit card slip back. I was cold and getting annoyed, but I felt really bad for our server because she had every single outside table and her other tables were visably upset with the lack of service. I think the thing that sealed the deal on us never going back was that both owners were visible and doing NOTHING to help the server. The female owner was standing at the outdoor hostess podium chewing gum like a cow and laughing with the hostess and the male owner was walking around surveying things, but not actually helping out. Being a server in numerous restaurants in York in the past, I see this as a lousy way to run your business and don't want to fork over my money to them again. (I know they were the owners because the own another restaurant in town - which I also won't go to now - and their picture was in the paper when Guac n Roll was being renovated to open.) It was truly a awful experience from beginning to end. So for $100 for our app, 4 drinks total, meals and tip (we did not fault the server for the service), we've already spent too much money at Guac n Roll. Too bad - I guess Loco Coco's in Kittery and Margarita's in Portsmouth will continue to get our business. read more

In York this past weekend, and in attempts to be agreeable ( I had seen the reviews from yelp), when there was a wait at the place next door, we all thought we would give the Guac-n-roll a chance. Not going to be agreeable anymore. Probably should have walked out when our drinks took 20 + minutes (the table next to us did walk out). Or when it took 40 minutes to get chips and salsa, which wasn't even very good. They tried, but not enough. Food was sub-par (with exception of pulled port, which wasn't as pulled as it should be but at least had flavor.) I got the braised beef, which was seemed like it must have been out in the sun all day it was so dry. I would have asked for some sour cream that the waitress forgot, but the only time she came back, she spilled my friend's beer on the table, and I was slightly distracted. People, stand your ground. There is no reason to waste way too much vacation time, a half ass meal and money - Roll on by the Guac. read more
