Quesadilla was good. Not enough sour cream. Served in a plastic small container for 11 dollars. If you get a salad get the smal as it is just about the same size as the large. No chips with meals which is very stange. Asked for a water and was charged a soda fountain drink. Get lots of. Almond because they use the really cheap napkins that fall apart. Our family was visiting Kittery and spotted this Mexican restaurant, and we were excited to give it a try. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to expectations. The service from Teresa was good -- she was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Unfortunately, the food was extremely disappointing. The meats were some of the worst parts of the meal. The chorizo and steak on the nachos were tough and unpleasant, the carnitas tacos were so dry they were more like jerky, and the ground beef lacked even basic seasoning. The chips served with both the salsa and nachos seemed stale, almost as if they had been fried days earlier. They were incredibly hard -- hard enough that you genuinely worried about breaking a tooth. We came in excited to try something new, but sadly left very disappointed. It's disappointing, in fact it feels like a theft, when most of the meat in your takeout dish is inedible. Almost every bit of it was gristle, connective tissue, and cartilage. I like the quick serve option. But it's a tad confusing they ask have a sit down section too... anyhow. My most recent visit I got the large shrimp burrito. While it was huge, I didn't see much shrimp, and it fell apart after the 3rd bite because it was a wet burrito, and it leaked upwards of 2 oz on the plate. So my goal for a hand held meal disintegrated. I wasn't served chips with my order either- which is fine because I don't eat them. I got their tamales to go- they are huge for the price. I went back today with my husband. It was a mixed bag. He really liked his burrito with chorizo (topped with rojo sauce and cheese). He didn't love the salsa (not spicy enough for him) or the margarita (not sweet enough for him). The real problem was my chile relleno. It was probably the worst one I have ever had. The cheese inside wasn't even warm, let alone melted. The poblano pepper wasn't seeded. It was topped with a fajita sort of onions, peppers and tomatoes rather than a decent sauce. The veggies on a chile relleno were out of place and distracting. I thought the rice and refried beans were good. If I went back, which I probably won't, I'd stick with the nachos with carnitas I had the first time and loved. read more

The food is reliably very good and ingredients seem fresh and takeout orders are ready pretty quickly. Their guacamole is one of my favorites. Staff are always very friendly. When we're visiting the area for an extended period we usually get takeout from here. We haven't dined-in in a very a long time. Why four stars? We ordered from here twice during our recent visit. The first time was great. However, the second time we got takeout they forgot the verde sauce on my Husband's burrito, put my husband's queso order in a metal togo container like the one my burrito bowl came in. It was very soup and was a leaking mess by the time we got home. Not sure why it wasn't in a cup with a lid like the guac, and like it has been other times. Also, this second time I found myself chewing on a a large piece of chicken from my veggie burrito bowl - for someone who hasn't eaten animals in over two decades and had no intention of starting to do so, it was pretty awful. It was not yet crowded either time we ordered and was a weekday (around 5PM-ish). Given the first time we ordered was fine, we're thinking/hoping the missing verde sauce, soupy mis-packaged queso and chicken piece debacles were a reflection of an off evening in the kitchen. Was in the area for work and needed to grab some dinner on the go. Decided to stop in and try this spot based on reviews. Was super quick in getting my order complete, I placed my order 5 minutes down the road and only waited a few more upon arrival. Tried 1x grilled shrimp taco.... Was okay lacked flavor, did not have much avocado sauce, if any at all. Probably would not order again. My main plate was the barbacoa burrito (as a bowl) this was great. The meat was very tender and flavorful, and a nice portion of it. Only thing I'd say for this is there was not a whole lot to it besides the meat/tomato and lettuce. We had not been here for many years as our first experience was a bit too chaotic and crowded with a place your order and hope to find a seat setup. We heard that they added an option for sit down service and decided to give it a try. It is indeed still very crowded on the weekend and we walked straight by the chaos on the way in and we were told we could choose any seat in the bar area or wait at the podium for a table. We did find a seat and a waitress promptly took our order. I tried the empanada of the day which had chorizo and found it to be pretty good. These are fried and were just a tad too greasy. Some empanadas are baked, and I like both, but if fried they should not be too oily. We also tried the barbacoa tacos which were good tasting, but not much filling. That said I think they were only about 5 bucks. For dessert, we had the churros, and a big plate came out, more than you could eat. Crispy and hot. Probably the best thing we were served. Cocktails from the bar were not that great. We tried the house margarita and it was only so so, more mix than tequila. I drank about half. Certainly not the worst Mexican food we've had, but there is much better in the area. On the positive note, prices were very reasonable here. read more

What a pleasant surprise to find this excellent Texmex in Kittery! Recommended by a cute couple we met at Nubble Light, it did not disappoint. Food was delicious - the chips fresh, the pico tasty. My daughter had the veggie tacos which she said were wonderful; I had the pick and mix - chose barbacoa beef, banh mi, and the fish (lightly battered pollock): each one accompanied by a salsa or guacamole which enhanced the flavors. Service was quick and attentive. We live in Texas and this place served up tacos as good as anything we've eaten at our favourite Houston restaurants. Kudos! read more

The reviews are pretty accurate. We stopped in for dinner with a pretty large crew last weekend (ie, reopened after during Covid shut down). They had in door and out door seating. All staff wore masks. The food was delicious. Kids had quesadillas and tacos. I had the banh mi taco which was amazing! The fried dish and carnitas were pretty good too. Definitely was in the spirit of street tacos. Wished they still had lengua. The cocktails were pretty good and they seemed To have a variety of Mexican beer on draft. It's pretty splendid that they allow true mix and match on the taco orders. That means you can order a combo of any of their tacos and there are dozens. To make your life easier, go for the banh mi (the most flavorful taco I've had in a long time and close to ever) and the tia margarita fish. My office ordered catering from Loco Cocos. Honestly, I wasn't overly impressed. It was tough ordering as a lactose intolerant vegetarian because the menu is largely meat-centric (not necessarily the restaurant's fault as I was a captured audience to the choice of the powers that be at work). The Lime Salad was fresh but overly dressed with unripe tomatoes. The street corn was good but lacked lime and cilantro. I liked the freshly fried tortilla chips best. stopped in here for an early saturday night dinner. we sat outside in the bench areas that had about half a dozen benches in the parking lot. food order was shrimp ceviche, barbacoa tacos, and appetizers sampler which was nachos, chicken tacquitos, and quesadillas. ceviche came out first, served with fresh fried chips. pretty tasty, shrimp was fresh. half a hour later the other two items came out. the barbacoa could have used more fat/oil in my opinion. the flavoring was minimal. what i presume to be salsa de verde on the side was not tomatillos based but some greenery blended with a very monotone flavor profile. i tasted salt, jalapeño or some sort spicy. it was not your typical multi layer salsa de verde. a slice of lime would have been nice to accompany the tacos. the appetizer sampler was crispy, which is what i love. the nachos were baked to a nice level of crispiness. the tacquitos also fried nicely. the quesadillas were pan grilled to perfection. the cheese in the quesadillas tasted like a kraft single or something cheddar based. i was hoping for asadero or some mexican origin cheese. overall this place is okay. it's missing a lot of the mexican flavors that i go to a mexican place for. if you're looking for an americanized mexican/tex mex experience, this place will get the job done. if you're really craving an authentic taqueria, it's no bueno. read more

I don't know if we hit this place on a good day or what but the food was fantastic. I don't understand a lot of the reviews. If you've ever had Mexican especially tacos this is one of the closest places I have tasted to Texas or California tacos. I got the barbacoa tacos and it was cooked to perfection, the tacos were stuffed and filling and I left full but wishing I had room for more. An unexpected find in Kittery, my Boston friend suggested it when I said that I was passing through. He was right - these are excellent! I went right to the tacos menu and chose the three tacos platter, grilled shrimp. What arrived a few minutes later was a nicely plated trio, well stuffed with large shrimp, and topped with cabbage and onions and a tangy sauce, served with a small pot of a spicy salsa and a small bowl of rice and beans. It was delicious from beginning to end. A little drippy as such things tend to be, but I kept it all on the plate. They have a good selection of Mexican beers here, so I chose a Pacifico Clara.
