Despite the potential racial slur in its name, this place isn't too bad. We went when the wait was a little long, so we decided to eat in the bar, known as Donkey Tails Cantina. The bar itself was pretty small - there were only about four tables to eat at, which were also small. The ceiling is littered with dollar bills in a checkerboard fashion that have each been personalized by past patrons, so you have something other than the three flat screens to look at. While my friends thought that their food was fairly bland, mostly due to the poorly flavored chicken, I thought that my shredded beef and cheese burrito with chile verde sauce was pretty good. I ordered a virgin pina colada, which was pretty tasty. Pineapple flavored sugar decorated the rim of the glass, which was a nice bonus. Because of the fact that our server was also the bartender, there was a long wait for everything. He had to make all of the drinks for the restaurant, plus take our order and serve us. If you're going to go to Guadalahonky's, I think I'd recommend waiting for a table...the tables in the bar aren't very comfortable, it's a little too noisy, and the poor bartender likely doesn't want to make drinks and serve you at the same time. read more

This place may be subpar honestly. But it was packed, and I've also heard people speak highly of it for a long time now. I just have never been there before. It definitely wasn't my favorite by any means though. Like I said however, it was packed, so there are people who seem to enjoy this joint. I just felt everything was very mediocre. Very Americanized. Very heavy. Nothing is super flavorful or well seasoned. The service was fine. I didn't mind my server at all. It's very casual. Lots of Ute hoodies and A line haircuts. Lots of re-fried beans and cheese. Every dish gives you the option of chicken or beef, it's just a question of where you want your protein in conjunction with your tortilla. Do you want it in the tortilla like a taco, or rolled up like a burrito? Would you like it on the side and then you can put the protein in the tortilla yourself? How about you put the tortilla on your head, and the protein on your crotch, and you have to figure out how to eat both without using your hands? I mean, every single option is exactly the same and it's all mediocre. There's a million options for Mexican food in this exact area. So don't feel obligated to come here by any means, unless you wear Affliction shirts and drive a huge truck and are balding so you cover it up with your Utes cap and plan on going next door to Donkey Tails to hit on recently divorced women in their early 40s after your done eating canned re-friend beans. read more

Disgusting!!! The food here was okay the first time. However, I thought it was wierd when I asked for butter with my torillas and they didn't have any for use. Second spot since moving here that didn't have butter on the side. Ordered the fajitas and they are the worst I've had in my life. Why do they have squash with them. No one was in there either so that should've been the fist sign. Will not be going back and will not recommed this spot to anyone. read more

This place is about as middle of the road as they come. The interior can feel kind of cramped despite there being few people inside. The waitstaff is just kind of there, no real customer service or attention to detail. They could care less about your experience and it shows. Most of the staff also looks pretty unkempt as well, just kinda adds to the disappointment really. The food here could have been this place's saving grace, because in all honesty how hard is it to make at least decent Mexican food? It's really not but somehow this place managed to mess that up too. The queso we started with, like the rest of this place, was just kind of there... no flavor to really speak of. After an inexplicably long wait time, my shrimp and avocado burrito came out on a plate that was barren and didn't really build any excitement for the meal. It looked more like the sad microwave burrito you buy at the gas station and heat for a minute when you're desperate for late night food, and we're talking really desperate. There's just no flavor in any of the dishes that we tried and with a less than desirable experience accompanying a long wait time I'm going to pass on returning. We have been coming here since 1989. Some times the service is great, sometimes it could be better. Same everywhere. Food is predictably Americanized Mexican, not too spicy, but that's what we like, nothing too spicy. Great chips. We love this place. Plenty of paring and never wait longer than 20 minutes. read more

Gave this place a try, not impressed. The staff was meh... And the salsa was like pace picante sauce. I will give them a thumbs up on the enchilada sauce, tasted homemade not out of a can. The shredded chicken tastes more like pork, reminded me of cafe rio, where the meat stews all day in a big pot. I prefer fresh chicken. Ordered a raspberry lemonade and pretty sure it was just Hi-C Punch. Blah. The staff also dropped 3 cups during our short time there. Clumsy night. Probably won't be back we'll stick to a few others we have tried. Oh, and my chicken enchilada entree was literally the same size as the children's plate chicken enchilada, and double the price and no drink. Lame. read more

I consider myself something of a Mexican food snob. I eat it a lot and being from Southern California I know what good Mexican food is...this is not. In fact this may be the worst I have ever had and that's saying a lot. For starters the chips appear to be store bought and if they aren't they taste like it. Then to go with the chips the salsa looks for all the world like Pace Pecante sauce...right out of the jar. The food was cold and that's kind of weird because it came out on what was described as a "very hot" plate, but after the plate was put down I needed to move it a little and it was not even warm. The taco was soggy, one of the other people at our table had a quesadilla that was soggy as well. The enchilada tasted like it was from a frozen Costco bag. I had the sweet pork and it would have been better suited for a BBQ joint...too sweet. Then to top it off it was very expensive, especially for the very poor taste and quality. Will not be returning. My family and I stopped by here for the first and last time on 02/10/13 about 12:30 pm. We were sat down and enjoying the salsa and chips that was actually quite good when i recieved the michelada that i had ordered. As i was about to take my first sip i just happened to see a fly floating in my drink. I made the waitress aware of this and she promptly went to get me a fresh drink. The next drink came, another michelada, and of course i inspected this one much closer as it arrived. All seemed well. I gave it a good swirl with the straw and brought it up to my lips and to my surprise another fly deeper in the glass. I brought this up to the waitress and asked to speak to the bar manager. The waitress came back and and explained that he was to busy to speak with me. There was also no manager on duty so my family and I left. I tried to call the owners the next day and was informed that the owners daughter Katie Hollingshead was there and she would go get her. The worker came back and and informed me that she was to busy as well. Throughout this ordeal I was calm and respectful and tried to use the most logical channels to get some kind of resolution. I requested nothing other than trying to insure this wouldnt happen again. An update... Katie finally called me back she seemed genuinely concerned and apologetic. We had a good discussion and I believe she will handle things appropriately. read more

I couldn't wait to try this place.....Loved the Name! The food wasn't bad, but I was disappointed in the service. Our party ordered 3 of the house margarita's, of which 2 of the 3 where great. Not sure why, but one of the margaritas was horrible. When we told the waitress, she didn't even seem to care. We told her that all of the adults at the table tasted the drink to make sure it wasn't a matter of personal taste, and all agreed that the drink was bad. There was no attempt to correct the problem. I am originally from Utah, me and my family have been going to Guadalahonkys for years and have always loved it. I was recently visiting from San Diego and thought it would be fun for me and my now grown children to eat someplace that had a lot of good memories for us. As soon as we arrived we could tell the whole atmosphere of the restaurant had changed. We did not receive the warm welcome or friendly staff we are used to there. We had 6 adults and 5 kids in our party and knew we would probably have to wait since we did not make a reservation. The staff basically told us our only option was to split us up and sit at separate tables. We did sit down but realized it would be impossible for us to even enjoy each others company, which is obviously the main reason we were there. We got up and left and went across the street to Applebees and had amazing staff and food. We were all so glad we had chosen to leave. Turned out to be a great night!! read more

I love this place! I go every Tues for Taco Tues with a group of friends! Their salsa and chips are amazing! I eat so many of them when I go! I love all of the employees and the atmosphere is great! Their salsa verde is very tasty as well! Just an all around great place to go. read more
