The only disappointing thing about this restaurant is that it's closed on Mondays.... My favorite meal to get is the Chamorro fried chicken w/red rice and cucumber salad. I can't stop eating the salad-especially after drizzling that finadene sauce (w/fresh hot peppers)! Oh man!! It's the best!! The ambience in here brings you back to Guam, with the decor and music. It's a bit of a whole-in-the-wall kinda vibe, but you can bring a large group to dine in and still enjoy the experience. They offer local beers on tap to serve with your meal if you want more than raspberry iced tea. You can even purchase a shirt or pint glass with the restaurant's logo if you're into that kinda thing. Honestly, I was a little disappointed with my past visit. The lumpia had a weird taste (also confirmed by my husband), and the kelaguen was tasty, but some of the chicken was hard (like overcooked or old). My friend ordered the sweet and spicy chicken. You definitely have to be careful when ordering spice with this, as it can be too much for you. He stated that it was quite tasty and to his liking. I ordered the guahan special. It came with chicken thigh, which was bland but cooked very well. They used good meat quality, but it had a light flavoring outside of the chicken. The chicken kelaguen had a citrusy taste to it that was quite different from typical. It wasn't bad, not quite good to me. The empanada was ok, but the meat was rather bland and there wasn't too much flavoring to it other than spicy. The meal also came with a nice salad. The orange rice was pretty good. I had not eaten here prior to 3 weeks ago and just realized how much I had been missing out!!! It was my friend's 40th birthday, and with my physical condition still not quite being recovered, I decided to have the surprise event catered instead of cooking myself or bbqing. Not wanting to do the typical Mexican fare most Southern California events I have attended do (delicious but I wanted different) I set my heart on Hawaiian cuisine. Originally I planned to go with a different restaurant to cater, but they were horrible on the administrative side and so with 5 days before the event I gave up and scrambled to search for a new place. Well Instagram advertised Guahan Grill to me (clearly watching what I'm doing outside the app but first time I actually needed what was advertised) and I was intrigued. I ordered the poke nachos togo that day just to see how their food is. I was blown away! The nachos were delicious, and the fish tasted super fresh! I decided that this would indeed be the place to get catering from. I wasn't able to get my order in to them until 2 days before the event (due to being around the guest of honor). They accommodated me easily, with patience and grace. The day of, some super helpful guest of the event picked up the food for me and they went on and on about how nice the staff at Guahan was. The best part though? The food was a HIT. Perfectly grilled and delicious chicken, the best lumpia I have had in all of San Diego (tasted just like a friend of mine's homemade lumpia), fresh poke tray, delicious fried rice and stir fried veggies. My guest, including vegan guest who just ate the veggie only food I was able to order, were very happy and were ecstatic that I over ordered so people could take plates home. This is probably going to become my favourite North County SD dinner spot and if I have another event, I will definitely be getting catering from them again. Thank you Guahan Grill! read more

Stopped by here over Presidents' Day weekend on way home from stay-cation in LA-OC since I've had them on my book marked list for quite some time now and I was pleasantly surprised that although it had a somewhat simple menu it was able to hit all of the Guamanian spots that I needed to hit. The waitresses were very helpful and attentive and all the dishes I tried were flavorful (check my pics). The only reason I deducted one star was because when I walked in the floors although clean looking were sticky on each step and that doesn't create a good first impression of cleanliness to me. Sauce seeped out from under everywhere. I understand this may have been a manufacturing error, but I feel like it is also important to recognize if a container has a giant hole before packing and serving it. The noodles were the best thing I ate. They weren't horrible, but I wouldn't get them again. The lumpia was my second-favorite of the foods I tried, but I gotta say, this was some of the most DRY and BLAND lumpia I've ever had!! The sauce was saving the whole dish. The fried rice was so bland. I was in shock. I had to literally add soy sauce to give it some more flavor, and even then it couldn't save it. I would not recommend the fried rice to anyone. Lastly, the Spam Rolls. There was barely any sauce inside, and the cucumber was so overwhelming in the roll. Wayyyyy too much cucumber in it! Hated the flavor.
