I was recommended this place from a coworker and had the chance to stop by on my way back to Orange County from San Diego. It was easy to find using Apple Maps directions. Guahan grill is situated in a small plaza that also has a Dingtea shop and iHop. Parking was ample and easy. When I arrived, the place was not packed so they let me choose where I sat. The server was really kind and attentive. I hadn't had Guamanian food in a while so I was excited to try their food. I chose the Guahan Special and for my choice of meat I had the boneless, skinless chicken thighs, chicken kelaguen, an empanada paired with red rice and I chose the macaroni salad. The chicken was very moist and flavorful. The chicken kelaguen was perfectly seasoned and the macaroni salad could have used a little bit of salt but otherwise was tasty. The empanada was nice and hot, crispy with a good flavorful filling. Everything came together with the finadene sauce. The only downside is the price of everything. My dish cost almost $30 but for this time, it was worth it to satisfy my craving. read more

I ordered (1 quantity of the Guahan Noodles it includes: grilled tender chicken meat, sautéed zucchini, sliced carrots, onions, broccoli and Udon noodles. This grilled chicken meat was very tender when I tasted it and the Guahan Noodles has a light flavor of Teriyaki Sauce infused in this dish, it was very delicious. This Guahan Noodles was seasoned with the perfect amount of oil in it and not greasy at all. The price was $15.39. I received a really LARGE portion of the Guahan Noodles. I am a small eater so I have a lot of food left over. I also ordered (1 quantity) of the Chamorrow Fried Rice, it includes the really tender grilled chicken meat, regular white onions, and green onions. I also received a really LARGE serving of this Chamorrow Fried Rice in a plastic container. The price was $13.19. I also received the $3.00 Discount off my (first order) today. The Post Mates Delivery Charge was $2.99. The sales tax was $7.38 and the Grand Total came up to $35.95. The (two sauces) I received were the Teriyaki Sauce to pour onto the Charmorrow Fried Rice and the Guahan Noodles. These two dishes tasted amazing I couldn't stop eating the Guahan Noodles and the Charmorrow Fried Rice. I am Fried Rice Fan! Everything I ate today was very delicious and flavorable. My Guahan Grll Restaurant Order was delivered at 2:17 p. m. and I also received 3 text messages letting me know that Michael S. will be my delivery driver and he is confirming my order with the Guahan Grill Restaurant and my order is out for delivery from Michael S. who is on it's way and this order will be delivered to my home within 8 minutes from now. Chicken kelaguen was delicious and surprised me when I bit into red hot pepper, definitely a surprise kick. I am overall very happy with my experience. We do not have any Chammoro food in Los Angeles or Orange County, so this was a very welcome treat. Our server was very attentive and checked on us regularly. Everything came hot and fresh to our table and our food came fast. The restaurant was clean and spacious. I had high hopes for this spot but sadly it was a total fail. Service was awful. In fact I think the worst I've ever had. All though our server was nice enough she was extremely inexperienced. She set our drinks down across the table from us and upon reaching for them we spilled a whole beer on the floor and our table. She did not return for 15 minutes to clean it up (huge safety hazard) but when she did she merely wiped it around with a smelly mop leaving the wet napkins we used to wipe up the table in their soppy spots for the duration of our meal. She returned without a new beer we had to ask her for a replacement which took a total of 30min to get. She did not check on us until 25 min after we received our food and by then we were over it. The food itself was also pretty bad. Poke nachos had mushy not fresh brown fish and the coconut milk soup was curdling, brown, and lacking all around. Tasted just how it looks in the picture. A few days after our dinner here I called to let management know about our experience and to my shock, they said that they were there the entire time our waitress was struggling and overwhelmed and we did not see them once. With 25 years of restaurant experience in the front and back of the house, I've never heard of such a situation. The poor girl could barely handle the 7 tables in there and the manager never once helped her bus a table or even run a credit card. Sad because this place is cute and it had some good reviews. It was for 3 centuries part of Spain until the Spanish American War when the U.S. invaded and took over Guam as well as the Phillipines which resisted American control until the U. S military put down the Phillipine's fight for independence. The Spanish sold the Northern Marianas, that neighboured Guam, to Germany, but upon defeat of Germany in WWI, the Northern Marianas were put under control of Japan as a League of Nations mandate. So historically, Guam is an interesting fusion of native Austronesian-Micronesian, Spanish, Japanese, & American influences. There aren't too many Guamanian eateries stateside. One reason being that the population of Guam is just 160, 000. Original room where the order counter is decorated w/ Guamanian memorabilia. There are 5 beer taps for variety. The addition is a large space sans decorations. Ordered a deluxe 'Guahan Special' combo of one meat choice: 1) Pork ribs are marinated in a light, sweet soy sauce marinade to make the meat more moist, soft. Porky, fatty, meaty, satisfyIng to almost every carnivore. 2) Kelaguen is served cold. Looks like a cooked chicken analog to chopped up pulled pork in texture. Flavoured w/ green onion, chiles, good dose of acidic lemon juice, it's a cross between ceviche and Thai larb 3) Empanada is crisply fried corn masa stuffed w/ shredded chicken, chile, garlic, onions. 4) Red rice is similar to stickier Japanese short grain rice tinged orangish red w/ tomato, good dose of earthy, funky garlic. Kind of similar to Philippino garlic rice. 5) Opted for the pickled cucumber in vinegar reminiscent of Su no Mono/Japanese cucumber salad, but the Chamorro/Guamanian version has a good dose of Shōyu/Japanese soy sauce. 1-5a) Novo Lavender Hibiscus Kombucha 6%: Pink red hibiscus flower, fruity, fermented sweet sour brew. Very appropriately paired to this fatty, garlicky, salty food. 6) Latiya: Creamy, moist, melt in your mouth sponge cake slathered w/ a lightly sweetened cream cheese & Crème Chantilly thin frosting, sprinkling of woody nutmeg. Generous 3 scoops of custardy vanilla ice cream. Rare cuisine that seems centered near Camp Pendleton which may be a great generator of far off cuisine finding a home in the U.S. since U.S. military reach is world wide. Nice, friendly staff. I wanted to share deluxe combo and was told it is not enough to share with 1 person. I ended uo buying the maga lahi to share and it was a good amount. However the food to cost was a little steep. For $40.99 plus tax just seems like too much for only 4 ribs and chicken with rice and cucumbers. I could do that and go to an ayce bbq for 2 nearby. Friend recommended Guahan Grill as a place to try Guamanian food for the first time. Looking over the menu, there aren't too many options and according to my friend, I couldn't really go wrong with anything so I opted for the Chamorro Style Fried Chicken. This is a rice plate with your choice of rice (red or white), a side green salad, and a pretty generous portion of marinated fried boneless skinless chicken thighs. When the plate came out, I was impressed. Presentation-wise it looked great! I especially wanted to complement the side salad which was fluffed and dressed nicely topped with chopped tomatoes, julienne carrots, cucumbers, black sesame seeds, and some crunchy fried dumpling skins for texture. Favorite part of the plate though? Red rice hands down! It was buttery and soft but carried a very nice flavor from the achiote powder, garlic, and other seasonings. Oddly enough, my least favorite part of the dish was the chicken. It wasn't necessarily bad, but deep frying it meant that parts of the thigh got dry and hard (especially without the skin to "protect" it). That said, the soy/vinegar sauce on the side certainly helped redeem it. Pro-tip, if you come near sunset/sundown, I suggest sitting in a direction where your back faces the windows. The lady across from me at the bar was in the direct line of the setting sun and she spent a good portion of her meal holding up a napkin trying to block it out as Guahan grill doesn't have shades to help block it. All in all, I enjoyed the experience and would also recommend this for anyone looking to try Guamanian. Solid 3.5 stars. read more
