Stopped here for a quick dinner after being on the beach all day. I like the layout because there's a lot of indoor and outdoor seating both tables and at the bar. Easy order at the counter, they give you a number and then you sit wherever you want. I ordered the shrimp ceviche and a lobster taco. I wanted the Ecuadorian ceviche which was on the specials menu, but they were all out. I would give the service a 10/10 but the food a 5/10. Not super tasty IMO. There were like 6 tiny pieces of shrimp in the ceviche, the rest was tomato. The ingredients were fresh but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here and I wouldn't bring a friend or family member here either. The only reason I'm not giving one star is because at least we didn't get sick from Oceanside Fish Shop's food. The first time I ate at the Fish Shop brand was at the location in Pacific Beach. I had a blackened swordfish sandwich several years ago there, and remembered it as being juicy, fresh and delicious. So when I saw this new location open up in North County, we decided to try it. I would guess the No. County restaurant is not owned or run by the same people as the PB restaurant. I say this because the Oceanside food is not even a smidgen close to the QUALITY or TASTE of the Pacific Beach location. Two dinners were both awful. Both dinners - all wrong. A fish n chips plate turned out to be a disaster, both in quality and taste. First, there was an immediate unmistakable bad fish smell upon delivery by DoorDash. Not only was the fish not fresh, it was over-fried way past golden brown; it was more like dark brown with a bitter taste. The 'chips' (fries) were replaced with onion rings at an additional cost. They also had the same dark hue, but no crunch whatsoever in either item on that plate. The mahi-mahi sandwich was a piece of very thin sliced mahi mahi. Overcooked and dry asf, at least the blackening rub was tasty. It's disappointing. I really liked their quaint Pacific Beach location, but after this bad experience, we won't be going back to the Oceanside Fish Shop location again. read more

I absolutely love this place. I had previously been to their location down in San Diego. This place has a great indoor outdoor seating area with tons of TVs to watch the World! It's so fun to mix and match the taco options. Let's go around. They had fresh halibut which I got as a fried fish taco and then I also had a taco with the seared ahi with the teriyaki marinade. Both tacos were absolutely to die for. The tacos are massive and they don't skimp on the protein the way most places do, two tacos is plenty, but it is definitely hard to choose only two from all the options. Tried the mahi and shrimp ceviche it was so acidic in the best kind of way! I probably would just try the mahi ceviche or the shrimp ceviche instead of the mixed. Planning on going back this weekend and trying a few more combos for their fish tacos! read more

Okay the only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because the parking does suck. What do you expect on Coast Highway-so, you just have to be prepared to walk a little bit. Y the bar although if you're there when the sun is setting it might be in your eyes for a while but adjusting your seat will do the trick. They had all the tvs on playing basketball games. First and last visit. We ordered by phone because the online system isn't up and running yet. Sadly, the food didn't live up to the hype, overpriced for the quality and overall experience. We managed to find street parking, though it was very limited. The kitchen and dining area appeared clean and were a decent size. We ordered the coconut shrimp, two fish & chips, a small coleslaw, and two mahi tacos (one with Fish Shop seasoning and one blackened). Unfortunately, most of the items didn't taste very fresh and were definitely lacking flavor. The fish & chips and coconut shrimp were underwhelming, and even the coleslaw felt flat. To make it worse, one taco didn't come with a lime, and one of the fish & chips orders didn't have tartar sauce. I specifically asked to confirm everything was in the bag and was assured it was, but that wasn't the case. I strongly dislike when I'm dismissed. For a to-go order, that attention to detail really matters. Pretty simple; it's standard. The only standout were the mahi tacos, which had decent flavor. Overall, though, it didn't feel worth the price. Lesson learned: sometimes the lower-star reviews are the most accurate. Disappointed to have wasted both time and money. read more

Lived in North County for 20 years now and have never been to the Fish Shop. Encinitas location opened in 2014 I believe and PB in 2010. So we were ecstatic for one to open up here in our backyard. I did not like it, at all. It might have been because I got a flour tortilla but I don't see how a corn tortilla would have made a difference. The fish was not seasoned and there was too much coleslaw on top. It was a coleslaw taco. Added avocado for $1.50 and didn't help. The clam chowder was awesome. $9 is a little steep for a cup, but at least it tasted great. The fish & chips were also good, but the fried shrimp were standouts. AMAZING. We got two beers but could have gotten cocktails. They have a full bar. And I love how much seating there is. My seabass... honestly I'm not sure what happened. The center was cooked but kind of mushy... like from when a fish is frozen too long or something? Yet the outside was overcooked and dry. How is that even possible? Not much flavor as well. My daughter didn't have the strange mushy texture to her fish, but it was definitely overcooked and super dry. The sides? Fries and rice pilaf, which were ok but nothing to really change my opinion on the meal itself. Now my sister and her husband went there much later the same evening and they said their food was great... so I don't know??? Maybe we came at a bad period of the day which was great for less wait time but not so great for the food? Beats me. I will probably try it again just to see if that was the case and will update my review if that is how it goes. For now though, it's a solid 3 because the guy at the counter saved it. Oh! Went for the first time last week for their Thursday oyster deal! We tried each kind of oyster they had for $1.25 each. As you can see in the photos, they were beautiful and tasted amazing. We also tried their fish and chips and these might be my second favorites in the area. They were big and cooked just right. The fries were also delicious, crisp and not oily. I have been to the Pacific Beach and Encinitas fish shops in the past so when I heard that this one had opened in Oceanside, I wanted to try it with friends who lived nearby. We came on Thursday for oyster night and there were a few people in line ahead of us. The line moved pretty quickly, and we each ordered a little more than a dozen oysters. We then went to the bar to order wine. It was a bit confusing because there was no list of what the wines were. It was just the bartender telling us the kinds without brands. He was a little bit gruff so we didn't want to ask too many questions. We each tasted a wine and chose one of the two 2 whites we were offered, then we took a seat. The restaurant is a big and open area and the windows were all open. Shortly thereafter, our oysters were brought to us, and the staff was attentive about whatever else we might've needed. The oysters were delicious, but there was a ton of shells shards in them, which really detracted from the oysters themselves, having to pull them out of your mouth with every bite. They are a great price, but it would really be much better if there was a way they could make sure not so much broken oyster shell bits were in each oyster. 3.5 stars read more

So happy to have a Fish Shop in Oceanside! While I'm normally not a big fan of places where you order at the counter, the line moved very fast and then they bring food and drinks to your table. Service was excellent by all. Scallops were cooked perfectly. Hubby liked his Pineapple Express taco. The calamari was good too. A surprisingly good margarita too! I look forward to returning and trying other dishes and seasonings. The atmosphere of the indoor/ outdoor seating was really wonderful too. Great addition to our food scene. I've eaten at The Fish Shop before and have always enjoyed the food, which is why this experience caught me off guard. I ordered a crab cake, and when it arrived, it had a noticeably fishy smell. Fresh crab should not smell fishy, so I brought it to the staff's attention. A staff member came back and told me the chef said that's how it was supposed to smell. What surprised me most was that there was no effort to address the concern--no offer to replace the dish, no alternative suggested, and no attempt to make the situation right. I wasn't looking for a refund; I simply didn't feel comfortable eating something that smelled off to me. I told them I didn't want the crab cake, and that was essentially the end of the conversation. In my opinion, if a customer raises a concern about the quality of a dish, especially seafood, it should be taken more seriously. I've had good experiences here in the past, so I'm not sure what changed, but this visit was disappointing and left me feeling that my concern was dismissed rather than addressed. read more
