Honey bbq like flavor chicken wings
    Diane T.

Cute little place in Oceanside, right past CVS, by Flying Pig. We never really walk out that far from the pier area (and it's not really THAT far), but decided to go out a bit just to check it out. Scanned the QR code on the big banner from the outside and checked out their menu. Saw lumpia and thought it was a Filipino spot). Saw they had a happy hour menu and decided to check it out before our movie. The vibe we really cute and played reggae music. It was a relaxing, chill atmosphere with lots of tvs. The server, Jaz was really nice, friendly and very hospitable. She spoke of their Guamanian food, heritage and community. They've been in the current spot for the last 7 or 8 months, so fairly new, but were down the street for many years before that. We ordered 2 different kinds of BBQ chicken wings. Two orders of the sweet chili glazed (Pine Doni) and one of the other which was like a honey bbq glazed style. All were supposed to have 6 wings, but the honey BBQ one had 5 (?). The sweet chili was our fave of the two. Their chicken empanadas were huge, and served 3 per dish, were delicious and crispy, with an aioli like sauce with a wonderful kick. The spam roll was a masubi-like and was good (husband said it was the best he's ever had). The side of mac salad had great flavor! Jaz brought us some red rice to try on the house and it was really good! It reminded me of Vietnamese chicken rice, with chicken broth infused into the rice, making it really tasty and savory. First time having Guamanian food and we're stoked we tried it! All in all, great food and awesome service! If you've never tried it before...put it on your list! You won't regret it!

I'm always so so happy to visit this restaurant! We were greeted & seated right away. I've always loved the Blue color of the walls and the island decorations throughout. We started off with the chicken kelaguen which had the perfect amount of flavor and tanginess with the red rice staple. I do wish I got more rice in the chicken to rice ratio, but it was good regardless. Shortly after we got our empanadas (the whole reason I wanted to go here). I had been craving them for weeks and it didn't disappoint. The filling was the delicious and the crust was perfectly crunchy. We then shared the Guam bomb which was a pretty decently sized plate. I appreciated how crunchy the fries were, especially since the amount of sauce on top could have easily made them soggy very quickly. I do wish there was a little more meat but it tasted yummy nonetheless. Our absolute favorite part of the meal was desert. The banana donuts! It came with 4 which was perfectly paired with strawberry ice cream. Overall, super duper happy with another visit to this amazing spot! Hopefully we'll catch them at PIFA San Diego this year

Came here a couple weeks ago and the food was absolutely to die for! We got a bunch of different dishes to try, Poke nachos, Guam Bomb, Pork Belly, and Chamorro style fried chicken. Out of all of them, my favorites were the Poke nachos and Pork belly. All their dishes were bursting with flavor and delicious. The restaurant itself was super clean and there's plenty of seating inside, and a cute outside area in the back as well.

UPDATE - NEW LOCATION Hafa Dai... - FOOD: good - PRICE: fair - SERVICE: island hospitality - AMBIANCE: updated and cute A review is overdue! Whoa.. after looking at my last review it's been over 13yrs ago and I didn't even live here yet and was in the area for vacation. Their new location is in the heart of downtown Oceanside and I find it very fitting for it! Very nice restaurant with outdoor front seating, inside seating, and outdoor back seating. Food menu looks the same to me. Good music jamming too. LOCALS DELUXE ($20.99) - One choice of meat and one lumpia paired with red rice and salad. Went for the pork ribs! Portion to price was fair.. portion may out weight the price for this plate. I received (3) pork rib, meaty one too (did I get hooked up, I felt like I got hooked up!). The red rice was good but average, the lumpia was just ok - def had better elsewhere, and the salad was a nice break from savory on top of savory. The restaurant is dog friendly (outside areas only). Sat in the back outside area - very cute space. Will say the further back tables are way too high for the chairs, my shoulders were near level to the table making it very uncomfortable to eat (I mean if you was Samoan or Tongan, than this would be ideal. I'm Filipino and this was not ideal). I switched over to the tables closer to the inside as those tables were leveled properly. Will def be back for my Chamorro fixes. ...SI Yu'os Maase

I was out in the area and wanted to try some Chamorro food! We don't have much in Long Beach so we drove out here to Oceanside. Came across this place and it was actually pretty good. I gave the place a 5 star because the service was excellent, the place felt very homey and welcoming. The food was pretty content. I got the Guahan special, it came with one empanada, red rice, chicken kelaguen, & a choice of protein. I chose the pork bbq ribs. AND OMG... the pork bbq ribs were delicious and tender! You ever get that feeling that you're full but the food is so good you just have to keep eating? YES that was ME! LOL The red rice was decent, I've have better red rice but it was still pretty good. The empanada though, I'd have to give it a 5/10. Too much of the flour and not enough filling. Chicken kelaguen would be a 7.5/10, wish it was a little more tangy than salty. The daigo radish & cucumber was a 8.5/10, the flavor and everything was there, just wish it was slightly thin sliced! They were thick af! LOL we also got the Chamorro ribs special it was basically fried ribs & I'd rate that a 8.5/10. Overall check this place out if you want some good Chamorro food in Oceanside!

TL;DR - Guamanian cuisine! Really good if you like barbecue type foods. Guahan special comes with spare pork ribs or chicken, an empanada, chicken kelaguen, rice, and salad. Also got the chamorro fried chicken which also comes with rice and salad. Both solid options and will be coming back. Never had Chamorro cuisine before! It's Guamanian food for those who've never had it before. I never thought I'd be able to try this cuisine to be honest. I was really intrigued when I saw it on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. Their food is really good here. If you like tender, fall off the bone, short ribs then this is your place to go! It seems like they barbecue most of their meats here which was a huge plus for me. We got the Guahan special which comes with spare pork ribs (or chicken), chicken kelaguen, empanada, rice, and a salad. The spare pork ribs were smoky, tender, and delicious. The chicken kelaguen is chopped barbecue chicken that's pulled apart and mixed with seasoning and spices. The empanada was a nice surprise and was surprisingly good lol. Also got the chamorro fried chicken. It comes with two scoops of rice and a salad too. No regrets with either choice. Next time we'll try other options! Highly recommend this place. Quick and professional service. Great ambiance for friends and family.

Met up with friends for lunch here on a Monday and the restaurant was empty of customers. Very sad to see since we did have a good experience here. Great customer service from the young lady who was working that day. She was very friendly and would check on us often. She also helped us decide what to order since it was our first time there. The restaurant was out of a few items that we were hoping to order so her suggestions were appreciated. We all enjoyed what we had ordered. The chamorro fried chicken, the sweet and spicy, and Guam bomb were all good. We also ordered desserts. I forgot what they were called but they tasted like beignets and were served with strawberry ice cream. Yum!

If you're looking to break away from the usual burger and pizza routine, this is the spot! The food is a fantastic change of pace--authentic, flavorful, and hits that 'island comfort' craving perfectly. The service was also great; the staff was super welcoming and made the whole experience feel like a meal with family. We ordered the Maga Lahi (Chiefs Plate), and it was an incredible spread. For $42.99, you get a massive variety including BBQ chicken, pork ribs, chicken kelaguen, and an empanada, all paired with their signature red rice and salad. Everything was incredibly delicious and the portions are generous. Definitely a hidden gem in Oceanside if you want something unique and delicious. I'll be back for more red rice and kelaguen soon!

Chamorro Fried Chicken ($13.99) - This was a simple, comforting, and satisfying lunch special! I enjoyed the marinade and crispiness of the chicken. It's something I'd want to meal prep at home!

I didn't know they moved and this is such a better location for them! I love their food. It's been a long time! Service was good. She was very attentive. I like how they have the big Tetris balance game in the back. We came during happy hour. So I got a red wine for $2 bucks off and we also got the spicy bbq wings! 6 for $8 all the apps we order were half off. We got the spam roll and the ahi poke nachos. We got the LOCALS DELUXE with chicken, lumpia, macaroni salad, and rice. Everything was just as bomb as I remember it and the sauces are so good! We came at a good time because there were plenty of tables and the parking wasn't bad this day.

This is the new location in Oceanside down the street from the Oceanside Transit Center. We had the best time at this location. I brought my dog and there were two separate outside seating locations for us. Lots of grass and great energy. There was amazing food and Mac salad. The perfect bbq spot. When there was complications with the grill, the chef Eric made sure that we were in the loop, and we walked around to wait for the backup grill to warm up. They were super understanding, and we had the best afternoon here. Lovely place to stay for a while with a pet, and we were enhanced with the red rice they served. We felt attended to by all servers, and our dog was offered water twice. Thank you Eric and Guahan Grill!

I came across this new restaurant when I was in the area and what da ya know...I looove island food! My eclectic palate was curious to try it. When I walked in, I immediately was greeted. The staff were very pleasant and attentive since it was my first time...even helped me with the menu options to make my decision. Looking at the cultural decor, I felt the chill island vibe for sure. I enjoyed listening to the music while I wait for my food. The service was pretty quick. I saw my food coming and I was feasting my eyes on the Chamorro style fried chicken, yellow rice and mac salad. I couldn't wait to eat. Fast forward...it was sooo deeelicious....makes me wanna go to Guam. Let's go Yelp Community!!

It's been awhile since I've been here and once again this place was disappointing. The ribs were gross. Tasted like it was boiled then fried after. It was too soft and didn't have texture like REAL Chamorro ribs. The empanada shell was so thick and not thin and crispy. Red rice, Mac salad, and Kelaguan was decent. Personally I'm not going back and I rather just make it at home or go to San Diego.

Ask the Community - Guahan Grill

Do they have boba drinks or can you bring from next door? Or is there any nearby public seating?

Are you open for dine in or outdoor seating?

I asked the manager and he told me they only allow their customers to eat outside in their patio chairs and tables due to the COVID-19 Virus.

Is the Guahan Grill Ocenside location still open or has it closed down?

It was there 3 months ago. I haven't been back since then though.

This place is casual and decorated with island signage and art work to resemble the island vibes. I happened to try the pancit and it was so good! They have so many options on the menu, but I wanted pancit. You can get plain pancit or add a protein to it. I added grilled chicken and told the lady to please add some red sweet and spicy sauce to my meal on the side too. I waited about five minutes, and they already called my name and the girl had it on a tray with the food handed to me. I sat down and enjoyed my food . They give you so much food I only ate half because I was already full. I took the rest home. The pancit was seasoned perfectly, and the BBQ chicken was tender and delicious. There were sliced lemons also to squeeze on the pancit and chicken to add more of a citrus flavor and oh boy was it good. I was having flashbacks of when I used to live in Guam as a little girl. The food was flavorful, service was friendly, but the only issue I experienced was the parking lot. It's in a mini mall with the drive-through coffee place "Cuppa Cuppa" that is so popular and there are always lines to get there and the way this place is situated on the corner makes it hard to park. So I had to drive around again and I finally found parking! I will be returning to try the lumpia! You must try it here!
