The food is fantastic! This location is not very close to my house, otherwise I would visit more often. I ordered lumpia and empanadas for a party and those were fantastic and at good prices. The appetizers were an excellent choice for my party and are quite unique in comparison to other local restaurants. My guests loved the food and asked me where I got it! Came here last week after a visit to Legoland, Sunday evening. I live in the LA/OC area where sadly, we do NOT have any Guamanian/Chamorro food (at least to my knowledge). So whenever I am in the San Diego area, I pay a visit to any Guam restaurant. Location - I believe this is the original location as they have expanded to other areas as well. Awesome! History - Yes, I have tried Guahan Grill before. Here and also at the Pacific Islander Festival held once a year at Ski Beach in San Diego. Guahan Grill has the LONGEST line all the time (no exaggeration). Order - placed a phone order for two Guahan Specials, $16.99 for a sitdown dinner because I knew I'd be too hungry if I took it home (an hour commute). Arrived 14 minutes later, seated ourselves as they were not too busy, and pleasantly discovered they expanded the seating area. Yay. Place is roomier, probaly seats about 70-80ish? Food arrived 2 minutes later. Red rice - moistness and softness were perfect. Kelaguen - A little dry, but still tasty. I wish they had a little tad more... Macaroni salad - similar to the Hawaiian style macaroni salad prevalant at any Hawaiian place Empanada - Deep fried with a rice/chicken porridge filling. Larger than other Chamorro empanadas I've tried, but felt the rice should have been mashed up more. BBQ chicken - the flavor is almost teriyaki-like. I like teriyaki, but not similar to the Chamorro style of savory/soy flavor that I grew up with. Was also burnt on the outside, but the flavor was pretty good that you could eat through the char... Ribs - Okay, here is where I have a bit of an issue, but I realize we can't please everyone. I thought these were going to be spare ribs that were grilled completely, so that fat burns off and the meat is a little chewy and I have to gnaw at it to get to the bone. Instead, the ribs were the all-too-familiar fall-off-the-bone type of ribs that you get everywhere. The flavor was great, not too salty and I actually did not even need to put finadene sauce (soy/lemon/vinegar/onion) on it. However, I was anticipating the traditional bbq way a bit chewy. Service - a little impersonal from the host, but the other dude server was very islander-like. All in all, of course I'd still come back. Guam restaurants are scarce (hint to LA/OC restaurateurs that are looking for a niche'). And they have a strong island following. read more

Hafa adai! Arguably the best Guamanian/ Chamorro food in San Diego. Yes some options could be considered generic to some but even down to their red rice, they get it right. I think I've tried about half of their menu and haven't gone wrong. My favorite is still their kadun pika, but may be spicy for some people. It's chicken chopped up and marinated in spices, garlic, vinegar, soy sauce, etc. The mix of flavors along with the quality chicken make me come back for this every time. Yeah I didn't describe that well but it's my favorite there and I'm salivating right now thinking about it! Their customer service is always friendly and quick as expected without sacrificing quality, which is what I expect from all of the best legit Polynesian restaurants. Great island vibe here too. My least favorite Polynesian restaurants tend to lack any "aloha" as they say in Hawaii. This place is always welcoming. Parking is easy for most part. read more

There's not a lot of restaurants that provide great food with excellent service and can do so on a consistent basis but Guahan Grill does just that and then some. I've been coming here for quite some time now and I've never had a bad experience. Service is amazing. You can tell how close everyone is and how they genuinely enjoy working there. This family atmosphere not only shows in the customer service but radiates in the love and care that they put towards the quality of their food. I've tried a number of items in their menu and have yet to run into a dish that I don't like. Today, I had the Locals Deluxe which comes with your choice of meat, lumpia, rice and salad. Plenty of food for $12. I would've saved some for another meal but it was just too good. Went with the pork ribs which were juicy, tender and fell right off the bone. Red rice was cooked perfectly and they serve each meal with a type of soy sauce that I just smother over everything. I also had an order of their poke. Perfect appetizer for 2-3 people. Good amount of fish and fresh chips for $11. For all you "build your own poke bowl" fans, do yourself a favor and have some real poke at Guahan. Fish was super flavorful and well marinated. Chips tasted fresh and not greasy. Great presentation also on both meals. To sum it up, if you're looking for some amazing food with a fun, welcoming environment and five star customer service, then this is definitely the place to go. Oh, lord do I love Guahan Grill. I'm currently snacking on some lumpia from there and it's a near religious experience. Everything else I've tried from there has been incredible, too. I always liked the people working here and the feel of the place. This is a local restaurant to us and we have enjoyed the experience. Not yesterday. I had the Guahan special. Pork soaked in Greece. I didn't eat it so I brought it home and nobody wants to eat it and I'm not sure I want to give it to my dog because of all the grease. Cucumber salad look like it had been made a week ago. Hot vinegar chicken or whatever that was. The rice was the best part so I ate half of it. The hazy beer that is named after the restaurant is terrible. I didn't drink it. The beverages here I have gotten worse and worse. They used to have good sake but then they got weird stuff and now they tend to be out of what they list. I no longer recommend this place but I will still leave it at four stars because I think they are good people and there is a good chance you will have a better experience than I had. I might check it out again in a couple years. This is in our neighborhood. We were so glad when the other two restaurants in this new center opened. OK, to the point, the FOOD. I love interesting tastes and this is a great experience for that. We got 3 dishes. Bisteak, "Fried" Chicken, "Fried" Ribs Sides: White Rice, Red Rice, Potato Salad, Cucumber Salad. The Bisteak was an amazing mix of tastes, garlic, vinegar, coconut, but not in a thai sweet style, very different. I really loved it and had to eat it slowly to enjoy each bite. The Fried Chicken was more like what some places would call a BBQ chicken, but really perfect. Amazing flavor, great serving. (All servings were perfect size.) The Fried Ribs were not the favorite of the 3 as they were more bone than meat. Not bad, just not on par with the other two dishes. I really liked the red rice instead of the white. They may not ask if you want white or red, so let them know if you want to try red. The potato salad was really good... high end of potato salad. The cucumber salad was normal (I like cucumber salad) but the cucumbers were very large. We had Lumpias for a starter. Not great, average for a fried roll. Not bad. Next time I will get the Fried Chicken for my entre and try the other sides. It will take another 3 or 4 trips to try all the things I want to try. Oh, staff is cool. Very much a family feel. The atmosphere is very comfortable. Now coke products! Sake sampler! Cider, wine and draft beer. IPA and locals included. Long time since my first review. It is even better and has a great following. Chamorro Food in Oceanside! Sweet... I dig this place and love the island vibe. Menu is rich with Guam's Island favorites. Made an outing with the family on a Saturday night, all eight of us and ran into a little issue with seating together since it's a small location and the manger didn't want to move the tables around. Luckily the island vibe was steaming from the theme of the restaurant and a group of four kindly moved over towards the bar and allowed our family to seat together. Enjoyed the BBQ pork ribs, red rice, and potato salad. Large food portions and satisfying... Again the restaurant was packed the night of our visit, so service was a little slow and the waitress, who was the only one on duty, mixed up our orders and drinks, so it was understandable.
