I did the…read more"Mother Lode" combo, which includes the main main tour, plus an additional mine tour, which to reach it that requires a quarter mile hike up a trail, and gold panning (after several tries I only found one tiny gold flake, but I got something!). Definitely bring sunscreen for the second tour, as you will be sitting outside in the sun for a little bit. It's cool and refreshing inside the mines, and they're full of history, right down to the wooden shafts that still have numbers painted on them from the miners of 1800s. You will learn about mining history and how harrowing and challenging it was, and see the actual tools they used, and how techniques developed over time. You will see shafts and tunnels you cannot explore but remain from days of old that inspire the imagination. You will also hear some silly ghost stories, and even see how UV light illuminates the rocks and minerals in the mines. Interested in history, gold, geology, or mining? Even if you aren't, take this tour anyway! It's well worth it, and the guides do a great job.

She tailored our ride to how "spicy" we wanted to make it, so since it was our first time rafting, that made us feel great. The trip was the perfect level of excitement for us as beginners. It was fun, thrilling, and adventurous without ever feeling overwhelming. My sons, ages 10 and 13, had an absolute blast and want to plan another trip back. We even got to see a bald eagle along the river, it was phenomenal. The weather was perfect, and the whole experience was incredibly well organized. It's also just under two hours from Denver, making it a great day trip. We really appreciated the free parking, and they kept our car keys safely in the office while we were out on the river. We felt completely comfortable leaving everything else locked in our car. We couldn't have asked for a better first rafting experience. We would absolutely recommend them to anyone, especially families and first-time rafters. Definitely opt for the photo package too - the pictures we received were stunning and memorable. We got category 3's and 4's which was a thrill and roller coaster ride... and because all the guides have on average over 20 years experience, we felt totally safe every step of the way. The route is about 9 miles, so along the way you'll have a few relaxing moments to take in and learn the history of the gorge, water pipeline, and railroad. The tour company was very well organized, and the guides were able to get everyone suited up with proper gear and loaded on to busses efficiently. We received a safety talk on land before entering the rafts and got instructions on how to sit, how to paddle, and what commands to watch out for. Our guide, Charlotte, was enthusiastic, confident, and informative. I really appreciated her clear and straightforward instructions, both on land and on the raft. She also had plenty of dad jokes to last the entire trip ;) Overall, I would recommend this tour for first time rafters of all ages! If I find myself back in the area in the future, I may try out one of the more advanced tours!
