Build Your Own Bowl, Plain Arepas
    Angela Y.

Great little build your own with either a bowl or arepa option. We opted for the bowl and although it looked sparse when they were filling it, this bowl not only fed both me and my gf but also was a whole extra meal for lunch the next day. We got the salmon protein which was pretty good honestly, would recommend. Their Guasaca sauce is their version of guac which is tasty but is also an extra charge. We wanted to try it but I think the bowl could be fine without it too. We also got two plain arepas but don't be fooled by the 'plain' name. They were the perfect addition to the meal - soft, cheesy and corn. We even stopped by on a separate occasion to get extra arepas as a travel snack! Overall, quite a good meal, a little pricy but it will definitely fill you up. Especially if you want something filling, I'd opt for the bowl because you can fit more and also get more toppings (only 3 if you get arepa) for that fun mixture of flavors. But I'd also recommend getting an arepa or two on the side for the whole experience.

Our food was fresh fast and priced right! The staff was helpful and friendly. This was at Duke hospital clinic.

My friend and I ordered the Crispy Chicken Signature Arepa, the Grilled Steak Arepa, and the Natilla. This place is Chipotle style where you can build your own or order off the menu. Everything tasted good although I would say Crispy Chicken Signature Arepa was the best. Note that if your arepa has beans in it, then it can get a little messy to eat since it makes the dough too moist. The Natilla was a little disappointing since I was hoping for something unique but ended up with something that reminded me of vanilla pudding...especially for the price of such a little cup. Service was quick and the facility was clean. There was plenty of seating as well.

What a wonderful spot. If your needing allergy I formation a simple google search will bring up a chart. This is important as the ladies behind the counter were not sure what would be gluten free. I ordered a "bowl" and it was wonderful! Very flavorful and filling. Thank you to the Duke student who referred this spot!

Guasaca has been my go to for arepas in the triangle. The food is affordable and I like the combinations you can make. My favorite is their chicken arepa with plantains, beans, and cheese. The service is typically quick so I would recommend visiting Guasaca for a quick, nourishing, and flavorful meal. They have plenty of seating and the restaurant is never too busy.

I've heard that Guasaca is like chipotle-style arepas and have always wanted to try it! We went in the late afternoon on a Saturday and there wasn't a line at all and we got our food pretty quickly. There was plenty of seating as well We ended up getting their signature grilled chicken arepa and steak arepa instead of making our own since we're all indecisive lol. I almost never choose chicken for my meat because i think it's boring but my friends wanted to try it and it was actually very flavorful! I surprisingly enjoyed it more than the steak arepa even. The steak itself was really good, but I felt like the black eyed peas mellowed out the flavor whereas the black beans in the chicken arepa did not. Next time, I would like to try their salmon!

Super disappointed with my food although I was so excited to go there! My fried chicken one did not have anything except for the fried chicken in jt. I think they messed up that order. The fried chicken itself wasn't crispy at all. It was not worth $6-7 dollars. It was quick service and I did take out. Overall food was okay, some of them were good but nothing was amazing or impressed me. Spacious environment. Quick service. Great location. Not sure if I will come back but glad I tried it out

If you're ever in the Triangle area, do yourself a favor! This was our sixth visit (at least). We've usually gone for lunch, but this time we went on a Thursday evening. It was way calmer than it is during the lunchtime rush. The presentation of the arepas isn't the prettiest, but don't let the pictures fool you. They are very tasty and filling. The accompanying sauces are very good as well. The place, ingredients and service all have a Chipotle vibe, but it is a good concept. I wish we had at least one location in Charlotte!

Tried this authentic Venezuelan spot and the arepas (cornmeal dough stuffed with savory fillings) are here so GOOD!! Very casual and affordable spot! We ordered: Grilled chicken arepa ($4) - filled with chicken, black beans, pico de gallo, cheese - highly recommend! Avocado chicken arepa ($4) Will definitely come back for more! The food looks good but tastes even better. Arepas taste kind of sweet, and the texture & thickness is between a tortilla/tamale.

First time having arepas and left me wanting more! Their vegan and vegetarian options are so delicious and filling as well! Fast in and out derive and great dining in experience as well. I like that there's options to eat outside if the weather is nice. It's been my go to quick food since coming to Durham and cannot be thankful enough that I found it!

I ordered on Door Dash and was pleasantly surprised as how fresh it was. I can't wait to try it again.

My friends and I just wanted a quick bite and these arepas could not have hit the spot any harder. The steak arepa was good but I was surprised by the chicken arepa. It has a lot more in it so it was more flavorful. Honestly can't go wrong here with any of the arepas.

Came here after the Durham Farmers Market with a friend and wow this place was a surprise. …read more I went with the grain bowl and honestly it is one of the best I have had in downtown Durham. It is built on quinoa and rice with black beans and kale, then layered with corn salsa, tomato cortido, guacamole, and a creamy acevichado style sauce that pulls everything together. It is finished with a crunchy mix of pepitas, nuts, and grains. The balance is quite ideal in my view. My friend had the rotisserie chicken with two sides, kale and slaw, and it was just as impressive. Crispy skin, juicy inside, and really clean flavors. Simple food done right and GF friendly. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared. Prices land right where you would expect for the quality, roughly 16 to 21 dollars depending on what you order, and it feels worth it. My bowl plus side of dark chicken was plenty. A few notes. Parking is what you would expect for downtown, so plan accordingly. Service was solid and friendly, but nothing that stood out. The vibe inside is festive and relaxed, bright and open, and just a fun place to hang out for lunch. Porbably not a special occasion. I also suspect it could get loud when full. This is definitely going into my regular rotation. That grain bowl is going to be hard to pass up next time, so instead of replacing it I will probably just add a side or an empanada and start working my way through the rest of the menu.

I had two empanadas, with a side of black beans and rice, and their papas fritas and the portion size for the food surprised me. $25 worth of food was around two takeaway boxes full and enough for probably two people. They gave a large amount of fries coated with this tasty furikake seasoning. The sauce that came with the empanadas was very nice. Rice and Beans were standard, I do wish they gave me a spoon as I had no means of scooping it up with but that I can look past.

Two sundays ago we ordered take out and the cachapas were very different from what we usually eat (we religiously eat their cachapas at least once a month!) they tasted different and were very undercooked and soft. The first bite I took had no cheese in it, so for a moment I thought they'd forgotten to put it and when lifting the cachapa with the fork it completely crumbled apart. It was like a mush. I told my husband I could not eat this (he is a very hungry man and though the quality was not what we usually expect from them, he had eaten half of his already. I, on the other hand, only had the first bite). We called and they asked us to drive back to the restaurant and bring in the cachapas for a refund, which we did. Never actually received the refund after multiple talks with them because according to them: "one was eaten halfway through, and the other one had been purposely smushed by a hand/played with." Yes, the cachapa was pretty much destroyed. Because it was so soft and undercooked it broke apart the moment I manipulated it with my fork and knife, as one does when eating food!! Also they claimed the product was the same as it always has been, yet it clearly tasted different as we know their cachapas very well, and their own cook spoke to us on the phone saying their cachapas came from an external provider and they'd recently changed the product!! So who's lying? We used to recommend them to all our friends because we support fellow Latino business and they are very close to where we live in Cary. But now I'll tell you all to try Pana's Flavors' Cachapas in Raleigh, for authentic cachapas actually made by Venezuelans!

I was in town for business and as in every location I travel to, I look for Peruvian food. This is in my top three. One was in Austin, TX, one in St Louis, MO and now this one in Durham, NC. I had the lunch special. It included a drink, soup and entree. Of course you have to drink Inca Cola (tastes like Squirt with Cream Soda) nice and cold. I'll have to get a Chicha Morada to take with me (which I did, and it was fruity and sweet, like a non-alcoholic sangria with cinnamon). The soup was a chicken and lentil soup with various veggies. As soon as I tasted it, I knew I was in for a treat and prayed the Aji de Gallina would be just as good. It was! Aji de Gallina is a shredded chicken dish made with Peruvian Aji amarillos, nuts, Parmesan cheese. Add in all the delicious spices Peru is known for and you have a wonderful, homey, delicious dish. I will be coming back tonight for dinner. Can't decide if I want the Seco de Res or the Lomo Saltado. Both staple dishes in Peru. Part 2 - so...I was too tired to go back for dinner. BUT, I did order in. I got the Papa à la Huancaina (so delicious, it tasted like I make at home). It is a creamy, Aji Amarillo cheese sauce over yellow potatoes. I would have liked it a little spicier, but I understand having to cater to the general public, so I'll let that slide. But the flavor was as good as you could get. I also opted to order the Seco since I thought it would travel better than the Lomo Saltado. The rice was perfect. Not soggy or spongy. Just right. Flavored with a little salt and garlic. You could eat it by itself. The Seco meat was tender. I didn't even use a knife to cut it. In fact, it pulled apart easily with a plastic fork. I would have liked a little more of the cilantro sauce to soak up in my rice. The flavors were right on, but I love cilantro...so. It even came with a Salsa Criolla (lightly pickled red onion), which is authentic and served with many Peruvian dishes. I ordered additional salsa amarillo just to taste. It's a sauce made with aji amarillo and black mint. I know it sounds weird but it's actually so tasty and fresh. My only disappointment were the beans not that they weren't good and flavorful, but they were pinto beans. I was really expecting mayacoba beans (similar to a white canary bean). Sorry, I ate it before thinking about taking pictures. All in all, I would rate this highly for those wanting to try authentic Peruvian food. My next visit to Durham I'll be trying the Ceviche and Lomo Saltado.
