It's quite rare to see a sit-down Puerto Rican spot around here (I've mostly only had food truck…read moreversions across the country). I'm happy to have found Sofrito! The place is nicely decorated and spotless, and the staff were friendly throughout. While I don't claim to be an expert in Puerto Rican food, overall the flavors were excellent. We started with the empanadillas, which were crispy and hot. The canoas were also delicious. The plantains were perfectly ripe and sweet, and the meat filling was flavorful and provided a nice savory balance. For entrees, we all went with combo plates. Each comes with pickled onions and a small side salad (kind of like a pico de gallo), plus your choice of rice, like white rice, tostones, maduros, or seasoned rice like arroz mamposteao or arroz con gandules. The pollo was moist with a really nice aromatic seasoning on top. The pernil asado was tender with crispy skin. The bistec encebollado was my favorite. The beef was very tender, tangy from the vinegar marinade (it actually reminded me a bit of Filipino adobo), and full of flavor. Both seasoned rice options were yummy, though we all slightly preferred the arroz mamposteao as it was a bit more flavorful. We finished with flan de queso, which tasted fresh and wasn't overly sweet. Street parking was easy even on a Saturday evening. I'd go there all the time if I lived nearby!

I had the mofongo (with the garlic sauce) with the carne frita (fried beef). I'm Puerto Rican and the carne frita was probably the best I've ever had. It was crispy but not hard and it was very tender and tasty. And the garlic sauce ... OMG, so delicious. I also got chicken and pizza empanadas and a plantain soup to go. Both were pretty good too. The waiter was nice and attentive and made good suggestions. My only complaints are that I had to pay for parking and I thought the food was a little pricey for PR food/lunch. But considering the portions were decent, that there aren't a ton of PR restaurants in MD and that it was delicious, I would go back there if in the area again.

It was our first time here and we couldn't decide what we wanted. After drooling over the plates that went by, we asked the owner to help us narrow down our options. We landed on the Chicharron Sampler for an appetizer. For our main courses, we had the Bandeja Paisa and the Paella Caribena. We were also eyeing the Dominican-style beef stew and the Sancocho Soup. We asked for a sample of the Sancocho soup and that's when we found out they make everything to order - including the soup! His wife went into the kitchen and whipped up a sample of the soup ... we didn't mind the wait for the sample as we knew she was working her magic! It did not disappoint. We ordered a large soup to go! It'll be cold later this week and this will be perfect in the rainy weather. This place reminds me of home - the way my mother cooks ... the flavors are developed and everything was cooked to perfection. I did a little dance in my chair with each bite! The portions were large - we'll have left overs for the next several days! And I CANNOT wait! We're looking forward to coming back and trying something new! PHOTO DISCLOSURE: We dove into the Chicharron Sampler before we took the photo. What you see is just a small portion of the actual serving size. Also, the photo of the soup was the made from scratch made to order sample of the Sancocho soup.

Its a DR and PR restaurant specializing in that cuisine. Menu was limited not alot of either cuisine. The server was very nice and made sure we were sat right away. We ordered and the food was good. I had a negative experience at their newly opened location and the owner never bothered to speak with me about it or make things right despite good faith efforts to reach him. My order was cancelled after already confirming with their staff that the order would be made. Then they cancelled it saying the items were out of stock after waiting an hour. How is that even possible? I guess you don't cook the food or check until the dasher arrives? I am appalled at the way the owner treated the situation by ultimately deciding not to make things right. I left messages and made good faith attempts to contact the owner to ask if I could discuss my experience. He decided to call me once during a time when I said I wasn't available (which I told their staff to inform the owner) and when I tried to contact him at the agreed upon time he didn't respond. The most shocking part is that the manager told me the owner is ultimately not going to address the experience due to a negative Google review I posted. Reviews are supposed to be honest experiences of customers and not be held or used against the customer in an effort to make a bad experience right. With Jamaican breeze, they do NOT care about the customer experience and take reviews too personally, which is alarming. This is unprofessional and disappointing and not at all how you attract or retain customers. For the prices they charge it's not worth your time, money, or the hassle to deal with poor service such as this. I would NOT recommend if you want reliable, cheaper, better value, and tastier Jamaican food go check out Jammin Island BBQ in Springfield they have never disappointed.

The salmon Rasta pasta first of all was priced one on the menu but at the register $3 more. They weren't hearing it and not gentle or caring so I just hurried and ordered. Well, turns out they're not worth it nor a return visit anyway. The Rasta pasta was gross. It was literally SO SALTY and spicy I couldn't enjoy or finish it all at home. Not to mention I've never seen Rasta pasta topped with shredded mozzarella cheese it looked strange. Nothing is beating nyc Rasta pasta. I don't recommend this restaurant.
