We ordered 2 lbs of pork, and it was okay--definitely not worth the hype. Most of it was just meat with only a few pieces of pork skin. The skin was crispy, but it had a slightly bitter aftertaste. The rice and beans were also dry. Overall, I don't think we'll be going back. read more

When I was stationed in Puerto Rico in early 2000s we used to drive up to highway 184 in Cayey up in the mountains west of Roosey Roads. There you would find the best lechon in Puerto Rico. Well now it's located just off I 95 near Occoquan VA. in a commuter lot proudly flying the Puerto Rican flag. We ordered the lechon, arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) and we were not disappointed!! The pork was juicy, tender, and delicious. The cuerito was crispy and you could taste the spices. While you're ordering grab a bottle of Pique deliciously hot and flavorful. So save the airfare and swing by. You'll be glad you did. One word of caution, don't wait until later in the day as everything is freshly prepared and when it's gone it's gone. read more

Went first day of the opening. Made it there at 12:30 for a 1pm open time and there was at least 35 people already in line. This place is in a commuter empty parking lot with a set up of some small tables, you are welcomed to bring your own along with chairs. Made to order by 1:53pn, luckily we had our own set up that prevented us from standing so long in the sun while waiting to order. My family and I, took turns standing in line. Now to the food, while the lechón pit is traditional as in Puerto Rico, there's a few fusions going on with the rest of the food items. The sweet plantain is a relish, the salad is a papaya slaw that taste a bit more like spiral cucumber salad and the dessert had some other twist to it, tembleque de piña colada (a lot on the sweet side). The staff was attentive and very customer service oriented. They made sure to browse the wait line providing the menu ahead of time and answering questions. The rice was really tasty (arroz con gandules) and the pork cooked to tenderness. The banana sweet bread was warm and tasty. The guineitos in escabeche were a bit hard but the escabeche sauce was done right. I know it was the first day but the line/ordering system needs to be expedited better. I still I tend to go back and try some ribs and other menu items. I see this as a nice spot to get your Puertorrican fix-in with lots of tradicional drinks to order from. Give it a try! read more

We noticed this food truck/bus in the Old Hechinger's commuter lot the past few weekends and saw there were pretty big crowds in the afternoon so we had to come over. Looking at the menu everything sounded so good so we knew we had to get a little of everything. They're only open on weekends so we came on a Sunday around 2:30 hoping for the best and luckily it wasn't too packed. The staff there was super friendly. They must have seen we were struggling to find a menu so one of the people who worked there handed us one and offered any help. They have a good sized menu so we opted to sample a good amount of stuff. We ordered the Plato Longaniza, a Lechon Rice Bowl, Pollo Asado (half bird), and a half portion of the batata. They were able to get the food out to us in less than 10 minutes. The food traveled well and it was a large amount so worth the price we paid. My favorite thing was the Lechon in the rice bowl. They gave a good amount of very crispy skin that can sometimes get rubbery and tough but they did it perfectly. Crispy and fatty. The bowl itself was huge and had a lot of meat.Their Longaniza had a good amount of spice and could definitely tell it was made in house. The chicken was a little drier than I would like but the piñeta hot sauce really brought a lot of flavor. The batata was good, not you're regular sweet potato and could've used more maple butter. I would definitely come back on the service alone. I would like to try some of their other foods but absolutely would come back for the Lechon and Longaniza. read more

The flavor was lacking for us and we expected to get that crunchy lechon skin but we didnt get any on our lechon plate. I'm definitely open and willing to try them again. read more

We got catering from Lechonera DMV for an event at my office. Let me tell you everyone was raving about the food, got seconds and wanted some to go!!! It was amazing! I'm from Puerto Rico and this just put me back on the island . I took some leftovers Guineitos to a friend and she went over within the week to checkout the foodtruck herself and try the rest of their offering with her family. Richard delivered the food himself and had everything labeled and packed very neatly. We got Lechón con Cuerito, Pavochón, Arroz con Gandules, Guineítos, and of course Tres Leches!!! 1st, the customer service is the absolute best as they are so personable and attentive and then food, oh the food! The Chinese pork is slightly sweet yet succulent and tender while the lechonera chicken, especially the breast, is so moist its almost falling of the bone. The rice and peas are seasoned to perfection and whatever the pink sauce is should be bottled and sold by the gallon because I wanted to drink it! The green cilantro sauce is herbaceous yet light while the vinegar sauce is spicy with a kick that balances the meal perfectly! As a Puerto Rican myself I can not say it felt like home. The rice was good but, it had an odd flavor to it and on top of that you put red beans when you are suppose to use gandules. Why advertise arroz con gandules when you are clearly giving it out with red beans? Not authentic and missed the mark heavy. The papaya salad don't get me started!! The two little breads you place in my meal tasted like pickles due to the many pickles you placed around it. lol! .The smoked pork was good and the skin was on point. Went to Lechonera today! They did not disappoint. We were greeted warmly by Amy & Hugo! Everyone was made to feel special. We ordered the rice bowls - lechon & sweet potato. Both were yum-o! This is our first visit after reading their review in the Post months ago. I was familiar with lechon from visiting the Philippines in the USN. The food was even better than remembered because of the added smoke. The cashier explained all the menu items. The grand platter with a side of the slaw was more than we could eat in several sittings so be prepared to carry home a lot of food. This is a great value considering the time it takes to prepare everything on the menu. We'll be back for another treat after we work off the added calories from the bbq overload. The secret treat on the platter was a shard of crackling skin. The offered sauces are delicious with just the right "heat" level. It was absolutely delicious. The pork was seasoned just right, if you love Goya adobo, it was right in that pocket. The rice and beans were super yummy, the plantains were sweet and a perfect complement, and the potato salad was fresh with real potato chunks. Guava butter, avocado dressing, papaya relish, etc.... The meat were moist, tender and had real nice flavors. My three grown sons were happily satisfied. Oh! I went last Sunday May 21, 2023. I traveled more than 30 miles from home in Silver Spring, Maryland with my daughter after hearing great things about the quality and tastiness of the pork. I'm a born and raised Puerto Rican fully aware of the lechonera experience. This place opens only Saturday and Sunday from 1-6 pm or until food last. I arrived at 1:21 pm and stood in line for almost 2 hours under the sun. We tasted some samplings of the pork and it was really good. But as they said you go to a restaurant for the food, and return for the service. The Lechonera DMV service was an insult to the clientele waiting in line. There were several man with the food truck t shirt enjoy the amount of people they attracted, taking photos/videos and talking among themselves and acquaintances. I approached one of them and asked why it was taking so long no way I'm in the Sala Thai. Don't say nothing. Love you even to take an order. He told me he was going to ask and get back to me.
