Gueros Tacos for the win. This is a great local spot that have a very mixed crowd of us wonderful locals and the many transplants (aka gentrifiers). I come here with my friends often if we just want to kick back and enjoy tacos, margaritas, or any of your typical gringo favorites. This place is tiny and always packed. Difficult to walk in and out even just to order. At least in the summer time they have a small area for outside dining. If you come during the week after work, its a lot easier to get a seat but don't even think about it Thursday - Saturday all the way to closing. For tacos it can be a tad pricey because everything adds up. If you're feeling extra hungry and get 3 tacos for $4.50 and a $12 margarita you're looking at spending over $25 easily. My friends and I are greedy so we aren't shy with blowing money on tacos. My favorite tacos are the fried shrimp, fried avocado, and the breakfast/migas tacos they serve on the weekends. My friends swear by the steak tacos. I have never had anything here I did not enjoy. It's worth a trip. read more

Roses are red Violets are blue OMG brisket nachos I'm so in love with you I'm not kidding. It all started a few weeks ago. My friend had come here for a bite after work and I came later to join him for a frozen marg. By the time I got there he was just about done eating - just a few chips left smothered in queso and a couple strips of brisket. I took a bite of a chip. And then another. And then another. And then another. I soon found myself completely immersed. No one else mattered. There was nothing else in the world at that moment but me and the nachos. I finally snapped out of it once the tray was clean. I'm not really sure what happened. It's a blur now. But I do know that a few days later I was back for more. And then again a few days after that. I've been trying to figure out why they're so good and I think it's because every component of the nachos are made with really fresh, quality ingredients. Tender, juicy brisket, freshly chopped tomatoes, perfectly ripe avocado, crunchy homemade chips, and the heavenly nectar that is their queso. I almost never make a bad review but this type of service requires it. I use to LOVE this restaurant, pre -covid 19. Since this restaurant has reopened, on four separate occasions, I have experienced missing items from orders, slow delivery and dismal customer service. As for today's incident, I pre-ordered from Grubhub for a 4:45pm delivery. The order consisted of 2 shrimp taco salads, 2 shrimp tacos, shrimp nachos amd a frozen margarita. An $80 food order ( I usually order once per week and my orders range from $60 - $100). Around 5pm the delivery guy calls to announce he had arrived. I tell him to leave it at the top of the steps behind white flowerpot ( as per contact delivery request). The fellow had heavy accents and didnt seem to understand English well, needless to say he left the food on top of the flowerpot at the top of the steps for all to see. When I checked the order the margarita was missing. YES, the margarita!! THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE ( it usually winds up with them issuing me a credit because they dont have time to come back and deliver it...sad but true, to busy or unwilling to deliver $20 margarita). I immediately call Gueros and tell the young woman who answered the phone on 9/17/2020 around 5:14pm the problem with my order. At this point I want more than "oh, we messed up" and ask to speak with a manager. I am told the manager, Lisa, is not there but will be in tomorrow. I ask what is going on with the restaurant, my last four order have all been messed up. The young woman proceeds to talk over me and tell me " it not my fault, I put it with the order. It was two bags, the delivery person must have messed up and not seen it. It's not up to us to do everything. The delivery people have a responsiblity too and if you want to make sure your order is right then you can pick it up (now, excuse me for being elitist here BUT if I'm paying you for a serice I would think that your going to provide the service however I choose to have it...the one paying gets to decide that...if you dont know now you know). I never accused anyone in particular of messing up the order but this young woman became so defensive it was ridiculous (she even suggested that I write a review on Yelp....as you see I took her up on her suggestion...I'm sure her coworkers, boss, customers, potential customers and the competition small restaurant greatly appreciate her suggestion...it's almost as good for business as being a restaurant employee heard telling an exterminator he needs to come quick because the restaurant has a roach and rat infestation, in the middle of a crowded restaurant). Bottomline, the service and customer service has left with the pandemic. There are too many small restaurant out there that have been lost and that are struggling to survive to have to deal with this unprofessional crap. I'll take my $$ elsewhere, to a business that appreciates my business and is competent enough to fill a simple food order without catching a defensive attitude. For the young woman, a word of advice...since no one ever told you I will. If you work in a restaurant you work together as a team...if one teammate messes up it reflects on the whole team. Update: later in the evening g when ai went to eat the shrimp nachos, discovered they hadn't pack fried shrimp. I called back the restaurant. Gueros is one of Franklin Avenue go to hot spots. I have been to plenty of taco places but Gueros holds a special place in my heart. I think it's the fried chicken tacos. It is a snug storefront that sells margaritas and different variety of tacos. It gets packed fast, so expect a crowd when you come. They offer outside seating so take advantage of it on a nice day. These tacos are kind of dainty but addictive, so order more than one. You can finish your meal off with a frozen/ or on the rocks margarita which are made fresh, unfortunately they're not the strongest so don't expect to get a buzz. read more

I was told this was the best taco spot in the area, and it looks like the entire neighborhood agrees because this place was pretty packed on a Wednesday night! Luckily, they have indoor and outdoor seating, plus limited bar stools. The fried shrimp taco was my favorite. The steak was just okay. Kinda chewy. They serve alcohol and margaritas (and shots). My go to taco spot in Crown Heights. Love their tacos. And having the option to turn your taco into a salad is amazing!!! My favorite tacos are pretty much almost all of them but I do hold a special place in my stomach for the fried shrimp, fried chicken, mushroom and steak. The Margarita is the best in Brooklyn I think. Fresh lime juice and u can order it half and half (half frozen, half regular) what else can you ask for?! I just wish there was more space in there. I am totally in love with this place. In fact I am so in love that I am happy that they are not within walking distance as I fear that I could eat here daily. I have tried several of their tacos, their quesadillas and chips. All of it has been fresh and made right in front of me. The margaritas are amazing and a great buy. You honestly only need one especially if you intend to drive home. So the reason for me not giving five stars is the seating situation. One time I had the experience of seeing a customer who had paid for food being told by the bouncer they couldn't sit outside because they closed the outdoor seating space at 9pm. It was about ten minutes to 9 and we quickly started to try to inhale our drinks as we were afraid to get the boot. Some words were exchanged between the bouncer and the customer. The bouncer told us that we could take our time because we had been sitting outside from before.... Confusing. The inside is so tiny that it is hard to find a table inside. While you can order food to go you can't order the drinks to go so you end up drinking while standing in the middle of the floor where you are either blocking the bathroom line or the ordering line. This past Sunday we didn't stay as the vibe was off. There were numerous cars double parked in front of the eatery and it was so packed that one couldn't drink and stand. One of the customers passed a drink to someone in one of the double parked cars.... The vibe was just off. So food and drinks are a five. But the seating and bouncer are a zero. Fried Avocado Taco I ordered 3 tacos towards the end of the night and both were inedible. They had burnt avocado in them, and I don't mean slightly overdone... I mean Burnt to a blackened crisp. Almost worth bumping this review up to 3 stars. -al pastor: 3 stars fine. The pineapple and avocado were nice but not enough to save it. -housemade chorizo: 2.5 stars good. Needed more spice and flavor. -fried chicken: 2 stars just ok. Also had chips and salsa. 2 stars. The salsa was nice but some of the chips were soggy or chewy/hard, not light and crispy. I have lived in the neighborhood for about 4-5 years now and in that time Guero's has been a staple for me. Good for quick tacos (carnitas in particular) and one of the few places around that has queso. You will probably have to wait for a table unless you go at an off time - it's a small space and the outdoor area isn't super useful in winter. It was hard for me to give this place 4 stars. I was tempted by 3. In the 4-5 years I've been around, prices for tacos have jumped, now about $4.50-5.00 / taco. And they aren't huge tacos! 2 tacos, queso and a marg will easily set you back $30.00. Not the amount I want to spend at a fast-casual Mexican place. Also, considering the guacamole is $8.00, I would say skip it. You can find better guac down the street at Chavelas or over at Madre for similar prices. read more

God bless this place for their creamy, white queso. I don't think I've ever said that I would gladly skip guacamole for cheese, but this one takes the cake. The steak tacos are my favorite -- ask for an extra side of cilantro crema.. you won't be disappointed. What I like about Güeros is the huge taco selection and convenience. The fried avocado is really nice, as is the blackened catfish and al pastor. The house margaritas are well made and there is a decent beer selection. I see a lot of comparison to Chavela's in the other reviewsm, but I feel that they're quite different. I go to Chavela's when I'm in the mood for a big, multi-course meal, or I'm with a bunch of friends. Güeros gives me that instant gratification when I need to satisfy that craving ASAP. Overpriced. Very overpriced. Food is moderately good. I brought a chicken quesadilla and Piccadillo taco. Ground beef taco is okay. Very small. Not fulfilling. The chicken quesadilla was $9.50!!! Wtf? Most Mexican establishments charge $10-15 for a large decent sized quesadilla. They literally took two taco shells and put chicken and cheese between them. AND MIND YOU IT TOOK 35-45 MIN TO RECEIVE! Don't see what the hype is about. I live across the street from this establishment. Brings a lot of noisey drunk people. A very high Four and a Half stars. Awesome.... best Mexican I have had in NYC! I know its Tex-Mex but it is the best of any variation I have yet to come across. Blows nearby Chavelas out of the water (I actually sampled the two back to back one gluttonous afternoon), and that place is pretty decent. Space is small but well-appointed, the staff is laid back and friendly and the happy hour specials of 1 dollar off already cheap tacos and 3 dollar beers makes the already great value even more exceptional. Those tacos, though are unbelievable. The best of the best might be the ingenious beef brisket taco. The staff told me the brisket is slow cooked with rajas and some type of cheese mix, whatever it is it is amazing. All of the other options are fantastic too tho from the more unusual Tex-Mex specialties like the crunchy fried chicken and the crazy but excellent fried avocado with jalapeno to the more traditional carne asada and al pastor complete with pineapple. On the weekends they offer special breakfast tacos with the options of "migas", which is eggs cooked with vegetables and deep frown corn strips, and a build your own option where you can pick two additional items like potatoes, chorizo, and avocado. Everything is incredible and so easy on the wallet. I am sure I am going to be here way to much. On tiny thing is keeping them from a full 5 stars would be the fact that they don't include those tasty Margaritas in happy hour. That's pretty easy to fix in case you guys read this! Love this place. All tacos & nachos are so good here. Price is very fair. Drinks and beers are good here as well. They seem to hire very good people for he most part. I've had some fun nights just chilling here having a few drinks waiting for take-out. Only gets real crazy (as expected) sometimes when super busy with line out the door, but they do reasonably well when in the weeds. It's blissful to get this little shop to yourself if you are lucky. This review is for delivery and dine in! Gueros is tiny but a hidden gem in crown heights. TO DIE FOR- Chips and queso. I have had their steak nachos while dining in- delicious and their green sauce that is on every table is the perfect addition. I would steal all the bottles of green sauce if I could go without being noticed- flavorful and addicting, I want some right now! DELIVERY: I wouldn't suggest getting the nachos delivered as you don't get the same experience as when you eat at the restaurant, chips aren't quite as crispy. Which is why you SHOULD order the chips and queso which always shows up steaming hot and fresh and of course AMAZING. My apartment orders this probably once a week. My favorite taco- picadillo which reminds me of a classic taco you would have at home just with more flavor, which I find comforting.
