Guerriero's is a classic hometown Italian restaurant serving classics and a few unique dishes as well. Note that this is byob and cash only, important to know before stopping by. As far as food quality it is worth a stop, and better than your average neighborhood Italian. They have obviously been open a while and the service is good too, attentive and able to recommend some solid choices. The owner is a wonderful guy who stopped by our table to check in, and had a nice conversation with us. Can't beat the home-style feel. The meatballs and stuffed mushrooms for an app were both good, whereas the salads we had were forgettable. The entrees had good flavor and could definitely yield multiple meals. The worst bowl of pasta I've had since my father made spaghetti when my mom was in the hospital giving birth to my brother. (That was 55 years ago and I've had a lot of pasta since then!) Started off with stale bread, then a Caesar salad which the waitress said wasn't sharable. Well, if you were Mr. Ed (or one of his descendants) this may have applied to you, but for three 50-something women, there was plenty to go around. The salad was eh. Back to the pasta . . . . I ordered the special; linguini with shrimp, spinach and fresh tomatoes. The pasta was incredibly bland except for the burnt vegetable oil taste that lingered well past the last bite. My family and I love Guerriero's! Jack and his daughter Leigh and the whole staff do such an amazing job!!! Their eggplant parm is my personal favorite, and my mom loves their pork chop parm. Another favorite, but not pictured, is the Mozzerella en Carozza. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal or item from there. We have also used them for catering for events at our house and we never have left overs, and we almost always over order. I've been to this restaurant twice and I will say it's very hit or miss. Went this past Friday night and the place was packed- I definitely recommend making a reservation for weekends, especially if there is a show going on at the performing arts center next door. It's also BYOB and cash only but you can also Venmo which is nice since no one carries cash anymore. Our table ordered stuffed mushrooms, rice balls, long hots with sausage, and fried calamari for appetizers. I found the calamari to be a little fishy but the stuffed mushrooms and rice balls were cooked and seasoned well with the perfect amount of cheese in the rice balls and served over gravy which gives it an added flavor kick. For my entree I ordered snapper oreganata which was cooked perfectly and delicious. Others at our table ordered pork chop parm and loved it as well. However, those who ordered chicken parm reported it to be very bland felt like the sauce was store bought and felt that it came with barely any pasta. Heads-up...I had a very disappointing experience at Guerriero's this past Friday evening. I'd heard and read many good things about this restaurant over the years, while it was still at its previous location. I happened to be in Morristown Friday evening and ordered a container of pasta e fagioli soup to go. The soup was *very* watery and virtually flavorless, and the dittalini was overcooked. Luckily I'd asked for a couple of slices of bread. To my surprise, the bread was also a disappointment. It felt and tasted like stale white bread. What goes? read more

Consistently GREAT food, served with a passion you don't find very often. They know your name, and which wine glass to put out before you open your wine bag (BYOB). The menu is very diverse, with plenty of the standard Sicilian standards, and some very nice "surprises" as well. I am so happy to be Italian! And to think I lived in near Morristown for many years and never went here! This is how you eat Italian. I am still dreaming about the meatballs. Large, Soft, Meaty, Moist, Cooked to Perfection. And oh that sausage melted in my mouth with those flavors just bursting with the sauce that it had been steeping in. The Rigatoni was al dente. And the Sauce was the way Sauce should be. Light, a little sweet, and thoroughly coating each succulent piece of Rigatoni. Ahh be still my heart when they said that Stuffed Zucchini Flowers were in season!! Dipped in batter stuffed with creamy cheese and herbs - I seriously could have eaten a dozen myself! And you have not had fried garlic until you taste these. Out of this world! Shrimp Salad was fresh, light and those shrimp were spectacular! Fresh steamed clams in sauce were seasoned and cooked to perfection! We sat outside on beautiful South Street. The weather was perfect with people waving to friends as they drove by slowly or walked past. An absolute travesty that this place only has 3.5 stars. It's easily the best Italian restaurant in Morristown, and I'd say top 5 in New Jersey. I actually applied for a job here when they first opened, had to be around 2004-2005. Though they never called me back, their food was too good to hold it against them. My family started going here on a frequent basis back in the day, and I dine at Guerriero's at least once a month with my girlfriend or buddies. I'd compare it to eating in an Italian family's dining room. It's loud, fun, and delicious. Everyone is usually laughing while drinking wine. It's impossible to leave here hungry; the portions are large and the food is so amazing. I usually go with the fusilli with broccoli rabe and sausage or veal parm on the bone. My new thing lately has been ordering two pork chops with hot peppers, sweet peppers, and sausage. The quality of food is a 10. Service is always solid and the owner and his daughter are great people. Go here asap, you will not regret it. read more

Great restaurant. Outside looks little different than the back. But I'm glad I took a chance to go eat at this restaurant. I tried the "Shrimp Fra Diavolo" dish and it was awesome. I definitely recommend it. Pasta was cooked properly - neither too soft nor too hard. Only problem here is you MUST pay by either cash or check. As a 21st century restaurant, they didn't accept credit card, which was a bit shocking to me. But aside from that, I recommend you try this place when you get an opportunity or visit Morristown. I've been here only twice, and both times my friends and I had a really nice time. It's a red sauce place and a good one. The service is excellent and they do not rush you when you want to spend some time with friends. Sometimes I just feel like some comfort food -nothing fancy - so I get the spaghetti and meatballs. Although the food was good, I have a concern with the way the owner is handling COVID protocols. The owner was walking around without a mask, coming up to tables and talking with customers as if COVID did not exist, additionally standing table side and not even trying to social distance. When he came to our table, we asked about his mask, and he replied "you are not wearing a mask" as we replied "we are eating". His response, "well so am I". Tried the chicken parm which was plain BAD, the meatballs were surprisingly pretty good (2 stars for that!), and the ravioli was okay. The chicken parm was really sad. Like woaw. Just got home from having dinner at Guerriero's tonight. I've never posted a review the night of the dinner before so this place must be special. And it is! We called ahead as we had read a few Yelp reviews saying that you absolutely HAVE to make reservations or you won't get in. Not true if you're a party of two. The server told us to just come on in and they will seat us as soon as they can. When we arrived, it was only a ten minute wait and we used that time to walk next door and buy a bottle of cabernet sauvignon from The Grapeful Palate. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and very cordial. The specials he recited from memory all sounded fantastic and, in fact, we ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizers from his list. While we waited for the mushrooms, he opened our bottle of wine and brought us some bean and bread palate warm-up. It was a perfect appetizer's appetizer. Then he brought some Italian bread and olive oil with three garlic cloves in it. Admittedly, we are a little spoiled when it comes to olive oil as we have a friend of the family who makes her own olive oil and we buy it from her and secretly we call it "liquid crack" so we compare all restaurant oils to this and none ever stand up. This was no exception. Liquid crack won out again. But these are impossible standards and no restaurant should be judged by this ambrosia we have been lucky enough to stumble upon. The stuffed mushrooms came. There were four of them. Stuffed with very finely chopped sausage and topped with "Sunday gravy" and parmesan. They were mouth watering bites of goodness. As I was halfway through my first mushroom, the owner stopped by our table and asked how it was. I hadn't gotten the full flavor in my mouth just yet so I said "pretty good." The owner (jokingly) said, "Bullshit! Pretty good, they are great!" I finished the other half of the mushroom and had to agree. The man had a point. They WERE great. For my meal, I had the lasagna (special) with one "Guerriero's famous meatball." There is nothing negative I can say (or would want to say) about this meal. I took my time and savored every bite of it. I love to make my own meat lasagna about once every couple of months but I can never get the meat chopped finely enough. I realize now that it CAN be done and it CAN be done well. The lasagna noodles layered and smushed the other ingredients in a such an exact way that, biting into it was like gently ingesting a warm cloud of saucy Sicilian spongy surprise. (Note: I do not presuppose that the restauranteur's origins are from Sicily. It only worked for my dumb alliteration.) The GF had the rigatoni with Sunday gravy and meatballs and loved that as well. I tried it and agreed. Manifique. We got dessert to go. NY cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake. Both were creamy and delicious. I still have the memory of their sweetness on my tongue as I type these words. A few people have commented on the noise volume in the restaurant. Yes, it is a little loud but it was hardly an issue. Visited 12/02/2016 for dinner with friends We decided on Guerriero's because it was about halfway between where my friends live and where we live... and because of the good ratings and the BYOB policy. It is also CASH ONLY, so come prepared. We decided to pass on the appetizers but we did each have salads (poached pear salad for me and the rest I can't remember) and the bread served with roasted garlic and oil was enough to get us in the mood for Italian. So I had their homemade spaghetti chitarra and added a couple (3) of meatballs. Excellent chitarra and really great meatballs. My wife had the seafood risotto, with shrimp, clams and mussels. Thoroughly enjoying every morsel. My friends hand the Lasagna special and the Red Snapper. Both of them said their meals were excellent too. This place is a BYOB and I would suggest reservations if you plan on dinner at a "normal" hour. The service was very good as we initially were seated at a table where the heat was blowing on us a bit too much. We asked to be moved to another table and were graciously accommodated. We're not in Morristown a lot, but from the little bit of walking around, there seems to be a lot of good restaurants and shops around. More like 4.5 stars. Never seen this restaurant before, though I rarely venture down South street very often. Came here for dinner with some friends as they recommended it. The restaurant has a family style feel to it and it's BYOB which is always great, but they don't accept cards. Cash or checks (who still carries checks around) only. Also the menu is a bit limited. They start you off with some bread and oil like most Italian restaurants. The bread was a bit hard and dry, like they were sitting a little bit, but the oil was good. For appetizers we got their famous meatballs as the fried calamari. Their fried calamari dish was delicious and their famous meatballs ate banging (as my friend said). They were large, the meat was moist (not dry and overcooked like other places) and the sauce definitely tasted homemade. For the main courses we got a chicken Parmesan, an eggplant Parmesan, the seafood risotto and one of their specials which had sausage in it (can't remember the name of the dish). The portions were large and all tasted good. The seafood risotto came with clams mussels and shrimp. Most other places include some scallops in there and that's the only knock that I had against their main entrees and to me that's not even a big deal. Their dishes are a bit pricey but the food was good so no complaints there. Overall a good experience. Only reason for not giving a 5 star rating is that the menu is limited so it's not ideal for someone who may be a picker eater or on specific diets and they only accept cash or checks which is quite an inconvenience nowadays as most people mainly carry credit cards. read more

I really want to like this place and I will give it a second chance. However I was very disappointed in the food. First the good. There is great homey feel to this Italian BYOB restaurant. The hostess, wait staff and everyone involved in the restaurant were great. The owner greets all diners and you can tell he brings great passion to his establishment. A little serving of beans and bruschetta were placed on our table right away. We ordered meatballs as an appetizer, they generally serve 3 but since we were a party of four they added an extra one so everyone could try. A very nice touch. Now the bad. As I read the menu, I probably should have been given a clue. The menu references the "Sunday Gravy" for just about every entree. And while the "Sunday Gravy" was fine for the meatball appetizer, it really lacked the layers of flavor that I expect in a good Italian red sauce. And the gravy is not something that is appropriate for many of the dishes they choose to serve it with. I chose one of the specials of the day for my meal, Osso Bucco. I enjoy the depth of flavors you can get from slow cooking pork, veal, and beef in combination with the correct sauces and looked forward to how this restaurant would fare with Pork Osso Bucco. I was absolutely stunned when my Osso Bucco arrived drenched in the red Sunday Gravy. The sauce was not what I was expecting at all and certainly not something I would expect featured as a special of the day. In sum, I will try this restaurant again as the other diners in my party were mostly pleased with their meals. I guess I have been spoiled by really good Italian food throughout my life. I tend to avoid Italian Restaurants for this reason. They can rarely match up to what I am used to. This place is no different. It had been suggested by a couple of friends as "the best spot in the area". I am not so sold on it. My gf and I were on our way back from a visit in the area so we decided, because of a recommendation, to try this place. It wasn't too busy (which based on reviews is surprising). You are greeted by an old school Italian guy and are seated by the hostess. The place isn't very big and the decor is simple. The usual bread, butter and oil is brought to the table. The oil is garlic infused. For apps (which isn't a lot) we started with zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta then battered and fried. We also wanted to try the meatballs (a buddy swears by them). So the zucchini flowers were good but you can barely taste the flower as they were deep fried. One bite and they could be gone (they only give you 3). The meatballs were a bit larger but again they give you 3. Suffice to say rather than fill us up, it was enough to hold us over for the main course. She went with the Fusilli con Broccoli Rabe en Saciccia and I opted for the Fusille con Presutto e Pesielli. The interesting aspect is her's were homemade and didn't look like them and mine were Barilla and tasted better. She enjoyed hers and mine was little salty (from the prosciutto I guess). So rather than overstuff ourselves and not have dessert we decided to wrap up the left overs and gorge ourselves on a lemoncello cake and an almond one...both were good but didn't seem to be homemade. Overall the food was average. Service was good. Their prices are high. 2 pasta entrees were $20 avg each. A bonus is we saw Jeremy Roenick and his family dine here...or at least his twin but I am 99% sure it was him. **This place does not accept credit cards! Isn't it 2012?
