Service was superb though I cannot say the same for the food. Our order was Mushroom Soup, Wings & the Cod & Chips. The soup was super oily...a thick coat of oil on top, I will admit once I got majority of the oil off the soup did have a good flavor. Wings were really good flavor a bit too salty and the fish and fries ridiculously oily and no seasoning on the fish. I recently visited this new brewery, and wow - it quickly rose toward the top of my list of breweries in Baltimore! Not only were the beers and food very good, but the beer garden is the best in the city in my opinion. I enjoyed all the beers on my flight, but especially the British and English Session Ales. The pretzel was AMAZING and I would have to get that anytime I go there, especially dipped in the mustard. Although we sat outdoors, the indoor area was also very nice and would be a good place to hang out when the weather isn't as beautiful. The service was decent - they use an app to do all of your ordering and paying, so it is very easy. It was very busy that day but things came out pretty quickly and the food runners and bartender were friendly. I thought using the app was very efficient since you didn't have to wait for someone to come back when your beer was empty - you could just order another! We live in Columbia so it was a bit inconvenient to get to, but otherwise I think we'd be here all the time! read more

The folks here are genuinely great. I've been four times now and literally every time, the staff made an effort to be sure were enjoying ourselves, and often bring out some freebies of some kind, depending on what we compliment. I've been both when it's very busy and also very slow, and the staff are always friendly and happy to talk over flavor profiles or building history, etc. The beers and food are all (what I understand to be) very authentic to German beerhall style. Also you can bring your dog and sit outside on the cute patio/lawn :) I will caution you though that the software they use for ordering food at the outdoor tables requires you to pay when you place the order. It adds an automatic 20% tip, and then prompts you to add a tip top of that. So if you're not paying close attention, you could be overpaying. (FWIW, the staff totally deserve the extra bucks. But a hefty tip should be an option, not the default). Anyway, 10 out of 10, love this place. Highly recommend. read more

Great space with lots of seating, and it appears that it can be a pretty happening place on weekends, but the night I went wasn't exactly the best. Our waitperson appeared to be over engaged in a schmooze with a couple seated near us, so the service wasn't what I'd call great. Popped in before a show at the Joseph theater. The ambiance and atmosphere was really cool. Giant doors to walk through at the entrance. And then very industrial set up inside. Many German touches from the Biergarten to the true German beers to the WC on the restroom doors. Living 4 years in Germany this place made us feel like we were home. I had the kölsch and helles and both were spot on. Shocked I could get a proper German tasting beer outside Germany but here we are. Our server was very informative and helpful. We got the pretzel and then I had the Serbian burger. Pretzel was pretty good. I should have went with my gut and got the lamb burger instead. I've visited Guilford Hall Brewery a few times now, and I love it. It's really large, with a large inside and a large beer garden outside (there's even a little covered area with another small bar outside too). I've really enjoyed their beers (I've done a flight and tried a few); their beers are definitely more traditional, German-style beers, which is refreshing when it seems like every brewery in America has put all their eggs in the IPA or sour baskets (I like these style beers, but having a more traditional option that isn't as trendy is great!). They also have wine and cocktails if that's more your thing or if someone in your party isn't into beer. The food is pretty good, too! I've tried the Giant Guilford pretzel (great), Caesar Salad (good), Short Rib Stroganoff (good), Margherita flatbread (had it twice, and one was good and one wasn't?). The service has been fantastic both times I've visited, and I love the space and vibe of this brewery! I'll definitely be back! read more

Beautiful re do of crown cork and seal historical building in North station. Right around the corner from Penn station. Went here for a tour and Lunch. Really cool space focused a lot events and instagram if you ask me. Beer is European and I would say is pretty good. Booked the tour online which states 45-1 hr tour no less than three pours and a souvenir glass. It was 25 min with one of the managers who was being nice and filled in for the tour, so I don't blame him, but he should've known that we were owed a glass and samples, even if he couldn't do the tour for the full amount of time. Didn't get a glass or samples. Tout should be free if nothing provided. Been on brewery and distillery tours all over the country and Europe this was lack luster for $15. Food way to expensive. 2 half liter beers 1 entree 1 salad (no protein) 57$ that's alot for lunch in Baltimore. 20% automatic tip added but sat at bar. Bartender was friendly but not knowledgeable about the beers and didn't serve the food. Trying to cover charges for back of the house I guess. Parked on street btw. Maybe would come back for an event but have to be mindful of neighborhood and what's being offered. Mixed feelings, cool place but overpriced. Make sure if you book a tour ask before you commit. 30$ extra dropped for a tour should have included a beer each. Spent 90$. read more

I have been to the brewery now three times and the food has been excellent. Get the lamb burger for sure. This time 7/24 we came with a party of 6, and while there were some small issues with the food, Erika, Bill, and Remedy made sure it was taken care of and handled in a professional and thoughtful manner. We had the fish and chips, American burger, American breakfast, and steak and eggs. It was delicious. I definitely suggest coming. They are getting the kinks out while they roll out stuff but I appreciate the work they are putting into making sure we have an excellent customer service experience. Thank you. Saved our Saturday night! We went to the German Christmas village downtown, hoping for some bratwurst, pretzels and German beer only to discover extremely long lines and overcrowding. I looked up other German places on Yelp and decided to give Guilford Hall a shot. Wow, this place is beautiful and you can tell a lot of thought and care went into its construction. Since we were already dressed in winter gear/ prepared to stay outside we opted for the outside beer garden type area. We actually didn't even need coats between the tented area and heat lamps. The beer sampler was a great suggestion by server and the pretzel did not disappoint! We ordered the rest of our food/drink through the app and I found it very convenient, so we could order as we pleased. I should note we also had two toddlers in tow, and while I wouldn't think of this ordinarily as a "kid friendly" spot, they were nothing but kind and accommodating. The kids especially enjoyed the regular/sweet potato fries and pretzel, and running around on the back grassy area. read more

We arrived on a busy Friday night and were immediately greeted by staff. He said it could be a bit for a table, which was no problem. We went to the bar to get a beer, which took a little while. We got seated sooner than expected, which was nice. A server brought water, and then another sever came to take our orders. My husband asked a question about the menu, trying to decide between two dishes. The server seemed annoyed by this and wouldn't give a clear answer. We also asked about whether we needed to close out our tab at the bar or if it could be transferred to our table tab but never got an answer. Our server never returned, although he walked by our table multiple times and checked on neighboring tables. Much of the evening he was standing with the manager chatting. No one asked if we wanted another beer or if our food was OK. There were at least three bussers who came by repeatedly to see if they could take our plates. After 45 minutes of waiting for our server to return, I waved down another server and asked for our check. I didn't realize 20% gratuity was included - nowhere on the menu did it say this - and I'm irritated our server got a large tip for doing nearly nothing. Food and beer were decent. Would've liked to have had the opportunity to try a second beer. The space is really neat. Lots of charm. The history of the building is on the website, as well as old pictures from the early 1900s. Let me start by the positive aspects of this place: it is a super cool atmosphere and the beers are great. The servers were nice and I absolutely understand that places are short staffed, but this place was otherwise quite a miss. The waiters and management were very nice and apparently they are going through a bit of a transition period with chefs and suppliers, so I'm hoping my next visit is better. My favorite dish was definitely the Devils on Horseback (bacon wrapped bleu cheese figs). Everything else was really disappointing. Flavor is sorely lacking in most of these dishes - my prosciutto and goat cheese flatbread with arugula was bland, others in my party had fatty/tough schnitzel, and the roast carrots actually made me sad with how bland they were. Another member of my party had the sausage board and literally couldn't tell two of them apart because they had such a lack of flavor. The short rib stroganoff was excellent and apparently the burger was good as well. A few bright spots but it felt like the menu was more of an afterthought. Especially for a German beer hall, I'd expect at least the sausage and schnitzel to be excellent, but they're not quite there. Another point to make is that their pretzels are not made in the traditional German method (using lye) but are instead made with baking soda. I'm also wondering if they have an issue with the availability of some of their plates (like, physical plates) because it took a long time for them to clear our plates but it seemed like they came by and selected certain plates and glasses to take to the kitchen. Tl;dr - beer and atmosphere is good but there is a lot of room for improvement. I hope they do well because it is such a cool concept! read more

The old industrial building is fantastic. It's thoroughly modern inside. Much of the old wooden floors have been repurposed as doors and tables. The outdoors beer garden is fantastic and was filled to capacity this Sunday afternoon. Our server was bright and cheerfull. The flatbreads and giant pretzel were terrific, and that about all. The rest of the orders were average at best. My chicken and waffles looked magnificent with sliced strawberries and dried cranberries, but the three chicken straps were overcooked, tough as leather and dry as a bone. Two others in our party were similarly unimpressed with their breakfast offerings and I honestly don't remember what three others ordered or of their impressions as they sat at the other end of the long table. The owners have done wonders with the old building. It's really a marvel inside. There is even a bourbon cave/café beside the beer garden, but go for the view and not the Sunday buffet. read more

I went to Guilford Hall Brewery on a recent Saturday morning with a friend who had tickets for a drag show. The party promoters, "SadBrunch", host great drag events at Guilford which definitely drives in the community. I was super excited to see Kennedy Davenport of RuPaul's Drag Race, as well as try Guilford's buffet. What confused me with this event was that it suggests that the buffet is part of the drag function, but they are completely separate. It's totally okay to attend and order off the menu. I wish I had known this, because the buffet food was not so good. I think buffets tend to be lackluster so I wasn't surprised, but I wish I had just ordered from the menu. As far as Guilford's food, it's good - not amazing but I'd go back for another try. The buffet was mostly breakfast but could've used a more unique, focused approach. What they do very well is understanding how to house and entertain the community! I'll be back and can't wait for the next drag event. read more

A gentleman guided me into the right direction with friendly conversation after I walked in through the wrong door, he's only been here 2 weeks but he was eager to help me. Then I was sat at table to wait for my friend and realized we had a dope server, Nnamdi. Nnamdi was knowledgable, made suggestions, made jokes, made the whole atmosphere relaxed and welcoming. We only took picture of dessert but we enjoyed wings, calamari, lamb sliders, and Pomme Frittes. The brewery takes on a rustic Germany brewery vibe with a European-inspired food and drink menu. It's clean, well desisted, and the bathrooms are single rooms which is really nice. This is the type of brewery you take your family to when they visit or bring your coworkers in to for a happy hour. It's a little loud but it's well-lit and the place is hopping. We came on the first day they opened so please keep that in mind as the review continues. We only had to wait about 3 minutes before they were able to seat us (party of 2). We got a beer and a Negroni. Because it was the first day, they only offered the Negroni cocktail from their cocktail menu - it was tasty and well made - very crisp flavor. We then ordered a schnitzel sandwich and a doner kebab. The food was a little disappointing, but I'm guessing most folks will be going here for the beer variety and not the food alone. The schnitzel sandwich came with fries whereas the kebab wrap did not. We had to order extra fries (ps the ketchup is tasty here) to complete the meal. The schnitzel sandwich was missing the aioli which made it a little dry. I asked for aioli on the side and they brought it after we had finished the sandwich (about 15-20 minutes after). Like I said, first day may have been busier than expected. Tbh though, I'm not sure the aioli would've helped. I could be wrong but I think they mixed up the aioli recipe with their tzatziki sauce recipe (coming from a total aioli snob from Catalonia, not just me). However, if they could improve their aioli and add it to the schnitzel sandwich, I think they could have a solid dish. The schnitzel was crispy but could've used a little more flavor (like the flavor aioli can add!). The kebab was tasty with a good portion of meat. I just wish it came with a side (or at least clearly stated in the menu that it was side-less). The veggies they used in the wrap were fresh and crisp. They were running out things on the menu but I think they had a successful turnout for their first night so not a bad reason to be running out of stuff. I anticipate that future visits will have more options and menu items. Menu prices range from $12 to $25 per plate. Because the kebab didn't come with fries, I thought it was a little pricier compared to other kebab places around town. COVID precautions also could have been better. The owners (I assume because they helped serve food and beer but weren't wearing the uniform like the rest of the staff) were walking around without any masks on. The wait staff and bartender wore masks though which seemed weird and inconsistent. It would've been better if the owners wore their mask too especially since the inside had AC. Outside they can go maskless but inside just seemed a bit risky given all the people inside eating and drinking and thus, unable to keep on their masks. Overall, I would come again, especially since I'm vaccinated. At least for the beer. If I wasn't, I might reconsider. The food could be improved but perhaps this was just the result of an extremely successful turnout on the first night. I will update as I revisit them and their menu! read more

I hosted a 100+ person event at the brewery, and I can't say enough about how excellent the staff, the space, and the food and drinks. Nicole, the Director of Events, was super organized, welcoming and responsive throughout the planning process. The bar and waitstaff was among the best in terms of professionalism, speed of service, proactivity and friendliness. They kept the lines to a minimum, all the guests were happy and adequately served throughout the evening. I didn't receive a single complaint, which is rare, and having access to large, well-designed spaces in Baltimore city is rare and at a premium. GHB is really a gem and one of the few breweries that not only has FULL food, beer, wine and cocktail menus, but also allows children and dogs. Looking forward to returning here often! read more

A group of us went for brunch, and I might give it another shot for dinner since everyone seems to love it so much but....meh, probably not. The food was just ok, and $15 for a flatbread that looked like a Lean Cuisine is ridiculous. The beers were fine, cold, but nothing extraordinary. The mimosas were a joke - when the server, Amber (who was absolutely amazing and is the reason for 2 stars), brought them out I thought for sure it was a carafe of juice and the bubbles were coming later. I dont drink and drive, ever. Not even after one drink. I would have been comfortable driving a bus full of children after these mimosas. It was just not a fun time. read more

Looking for somewhere close the The Lyric for a beer and meal after a show, we found this place online. Wow! It was great. I had their Marzen which was delicious. My wife enjoyed their lager. The food was exceptional. We started with the soft pretzel which was large and fresh from the oven. It was enough of an appetizer for four people. For my meal, I chose the burger on the pretzel bun. It was cooked perfectly and was very tasty. My wife ordered a chicken panini and thought it was delicious. Our friends ordered something from the German portion of the menu and seemed to enjoy their meals. Parking on a Sunday evening was easy. I don't know about the surrounding neighborhood but we felt safe walking around. My only suggestion is to turn the music down slightly. Wow, I am actually so sad that this place opened after I moved out of Baltimore. I was in town visiting some friends and we decided to check this place out, and it may have easily made the top of my list of bmore breweries. The ambiance and vibe is so chill, the decor is modern, and the space feels so open. Parking is easy, free street parking. I came with a group of 8 (all of our first time) and we all immediately loved it. Okay onto the actual brews and grub - we came for Sunday brunch and they had a pretty decent brunch menu! Out of our group we tried the shepherds pie, the American breakfast, the breakfast burger, and the hangover. We almost considered the large pretzel but luckily we didn't because we were stuffed! Great selection of brews too, from Hefeweizens to marzen to shandy to IPA. Will 100% come back when I'm in town and recommend it to others. We held our wedding ceremony and reception at Guilford Hall Brewery and I cannot say enough great things about the venue itself, food, the service and the staff. Nicole was excellent to work with. Incredibly responsive, kind and a great communicator. The venue is a mix of industrial chic with outdoor space, as well as outdoor barns/alcoves for additional bar options. The wedding reception was on the second floor, which is the true gem of the building. The grandeur of the tall ceilings, chandeliers and wooden floors created a spectacular ambiance for dinner and dancing. The staff was speedy and friendly - there was hardly ever a line at the bar. Very disappointing! I wanted this place to be good, had high hopes given location, beautiful old building , etc. It sucked. Long wait, was given wrong meal, more waiting. Then the food itself was worse than mediocre. Eggshell in my eggs. Virtually inedible sausage. During my meal in the courtyard a huge trash bag full of champagne bottles ripped as it was being carried by, leading to broken glass being cleaned up right next to my table throughout the meal. The final insult was the automatic 20% tip, which I didn't notice due to the device and glare and tipped on top of. Kicked in the ass on my way out. read more
