Margarita flight - NOT on the menu, but definitely worth a try!!! Their classic was our favorite.

Service was quick and friendly. Food was decent, but the best part was the Margaritas! Cute little restaurant with lots of cultural decor.

This places on the main drag of SunPraire just past Salvadores pizza. It was once a Greek restaurant but that is long gone. Food here is genuine Mexican and the decor they changed it to is very nice. Music (Spanish ) is ok but a little loud for me. Service was very good and so was the food. My two street tacos, one chicken and one beef were filled with good stuff and the rice and beans were better than average. My wife had the enchilada dinner and was happy with what she got. I thought the taco shells were a little greasy and the complimentary chips and salsa although tasty were the same way. Salsa was excellent. Full bar and parking is either on the street or in a free lot behind the building. A nice addition to Main Street with nice people running it. Stop by or get take out as many were.

Yay I found a great tasting Mexican food place in Wisconsin!! Very excited about this, thank you to the staff and especially to the cook. The food is absolutely delicious and it tastes like a home cooked meal. I ordered the Chilaquiles with egg (12.00) and the fried jalapeños (7.00). I loved the food, it tasted as it should...fresh, flavorful, and overall delicious. If you are looking for a Mexican restaurant that cooks from scratch abc doesn't charge an arm and a leg...this place is for you! I highly recommend this establishment.

I have been here a few times. Today was kinda disappointing because my meat in my menudo was still hard. NOT cooked long enough. The flavor was good but a little thicker broth would be better. It was kinda watery this time. I have ordered it in the past a few times and it was good. The lengua taco was NOT good it was kinda burnt taste and very fatty. The best was definitely the pastor tacos on a flower tortilla. Them were so good. The salsa for the chips taste like a jar from the store but the salsa for the tacos are great. I could have drank the red sauce. The employees were nice and did a great job. The place is clean and big inside. Just a little disappointed on the menudo this time. I'll be back to see if there is change soon!

Ordered to go Chili Relleno's they were the worst I have ever had. They were swimming in a sauce that had zero flavor. Cheese inside was not melted and had a rubber like texture. Portion size was ridiculous for $15.00. Used back entrance which had food left out in prep containers uncovered. Will not be back and do not recommend.

This was my pick for my birthday lunch. It was a good choice. Everything was awesome ... The service, the food, the background music, and the prices were very reasonable. The restaurant shares an entry with additional businesses and from the street doesn't look like much but this is a hidden gem! The Gordita platter special and tacos dorados were delicious. Portion sizes are generous (I needed a to-go-box). When you enter you order at the counter pay then go select your seat and your beverages and food are brought to you. Someone does check in on you while you're dining so I do recommend considering a tip at the point of sale.

Guimo's is truly a hidden gem for great authentic Mexican cuisine if you happen to be out in the Sun Prairie area! :) At Guimo's you order, pay at the counter, & they will bring your beverages/order to your table making sure to check in on you so please tip them when you pay at counter. My friend and I loved how festive it was on the inside from the decor, the food including the salsas and background music! Guimo's had fast friendly service & a variety of different menu items. I had the supreme fajitas with chicken, beef, & shrimp which was delicious but honestly not the best Mexican cuisine or fajitas I have tried in the area but hoping to change or update my review after trying more items. Food was really good but I am giving 3 stars because I thought the beef for fajitas could have been a little bit more tenderized to be less chewy. I was a little bummed out. They do not serve cocktails or alcohol which I think could bring in even more money for their business but food was great alone. Overall, a great experience and I would love to come back and try some of their weekend specials like pazole and menudo!

What I will begin to say about El Primo is they are a hard working family owned hole in the wall…read morethat Sun Prairie should be grateful they operate there. I see plenty of cops, firemen, and paramedics going here for their lunches. Quesadillas - I have no idea what cheese they put in them, but you get that, guac, and amazing meat. I always go asada but the quesadilla size is absolutely fair for the price and pairs amazing with both their salsa verde and Rojo. The cooks are always working hard and for the bulk they get, the portions are always over stuffed. Now let's talk about those burritos, ... if you have never had Al Pastor, get Al Pastor. It seasons the already seasoned rice and soaks into the burrito perfectly with out the damn sogginess. They wrap it better than chipotle and that damn thing is so stuffed you honestly say "I only paid this much?!" Pair it with the Salsa rojo with each bite and you'll be hooked. They do come with sour cream, "crema", I always say no crema. It ruins the flavor profile of the Al Pastor. Alright, now the thing you were wanting to know, tacos. Authentic. Cantina. Flat top grilled meat and tortillas (yes they heat them on the flat top as the meat and oil. Tortillas are typical maize but I am a harina Chico myself (that's flour boy for you plebeians, just kidding but it's good to note that if you prefer it tell them "Puedo tener tortillas de harina" because I believe you should make the effort to learn someone's language if you're going to partake in their culture and food. These are hard working and sincere people! You may ask now, "okay dude but what meat should I get?" Honestly, you'll never go wrong with Asada but the Lomo de res (rib eye) is soooo rich and so good! Always tell them to put everything on the taco "con todo" (cilantro and onion) grab a lot of salsa and enjoy. We usually get a side of Pico de Gallo which they can do, as well as some Jarritos. The Pico is for the tacos. Look I can go on and on and on about this place but honestly until you go, you will either say "this guy is smoking crack" or "damn he is 100% right" as a former Los Angelino, again, Sun Prairie should be thanking El Primo from breaking up the monotony of "bar and grill" that Wisconsin as a whole has too much of. El Alegre is located in a small modern strip of shops, with a party center they run next door. The restaurant is medium sized with a nice bar in the corner by the kitchen. The room is sleek and modern with black walls and tables, wood chairs and floors, and a colorful neon strip around the ceiling. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The menu is two sided and manages to have a nice variety without being overstuffed. I ended up ordering the Camarones a la Diabla, as someone who loves spicy shrimp it sounded great. A bit of a wait for the food, but the place was busy with the dining room almost full including a couple of larger tables. The chips and salsa was ok, but nothing special but provided a nice prelude while I waited for the meal. The meal came out nicely presented on a square white plate, which set off the colorful meal. The shrimp were nice sized, plump and well cooked; the sauce was excellent, not overly spicey, but instead complex and delicious with an interesting mix of flavors, it seemed to be similar to a mole instead of just a hot sauce. The refried beans and spanish rice were both good and the guacamole, sour cream and small salad was a nice compliment to the meal. The flour tortillas were very good, freshly griddled and fresh. I was very impressed with El Alegre, the decor is a nice change from most Mexican restaurants. I was very impressed with their version of Camarones a la Diabla, usually it is served with a fairly simple hot sauce, here they created a wonderful and complex sauce that perfectly complimented the shrimp and provided a true treat. If you are in the area and looking for some great Mexican food El Alegre is well worth a visit. If the rest of the menu is anything like my meal it is a great flavorful interpretation of Mexican food.

Of course there was a Taco Bell close to the exit from I-90, but that wasn't going to cut it. So, we found El Alegre about two miles into town. The place was packed Well, we had a very good meal with happy service. A big sign on the wall in the kitchen said "work hard and be nice to people ". Gotta love that. So we were coming South on I-90 and remembered El Alegre. Being vegetarian, I usually find plenty of options in a Mexican restaurant (and also Chinese and Italian). This menu had a vegetarian section with about six or seven choices, but I looked over the rest of the very large menu and found several versions of Chile Relleño. I've never seen anything but the one stuffed with cheese anywhere else. Well, they had a version stuffed with vegetables! I had to try it. I am so glad I did. It was delicious and a very generous portion served with rice and beans that rose above the standard usually experienced. My wife had a shrimp dish that I sampled and loved. She said the margaritas were also excellent. So, if you find yourself on I-90, you won't regret driving a couple miles off the highway to find El Alegre!
