Went back after getting horrible service for a second try and surprise it was horrible again. Sat in the restaurant waited for 15-20 minutes for someone to stop but no one did. The host eventually found someone to help and found the manager who did stop by then ran off as the server came by and asked "what we wanted." Food had no flavor, server then dropped the check and left again so we waited and waited for her to return which she finally did then dropped the check we asked for the manager she then just went to the hostess stand while we waited, after another ten minutes we got up and she ran over to the manager who proceeded to say he was so sorry and ehe planned to buy our whole dinner but never told the server and asked us to stay but at that point we were done. I will say he tried very hard but after being treated like that we had no interest in staying at all. Having lived by the place for six months I had a couple really good experiences but what ever changes have occurred over the last few months are very bad. The food used to be really good, the beer is always really good, but now I can't say I would ever waste my time again. When all was said and done, the manager bought my wife beer that was left there and we ended up paying for terrible food. So if you like good service, try somewhere else. Great tour, headphones were a plus as it was a bit noisy in spots. Informative and knowledgeable tour guide. Had dinner at the restaurant after the tour. Food was ver good. Our table had the scallops, beef stew, cream of crab soup , a salad and brown bread. No complaints about the food. I had the guiness blonde for the first time and enjoyed it. I visited the Guinness Open Gate Brewery and Barrel House on Sunday, December 16th. I had toured the St James Facility about 4 years ago so I was expecting a similar experience. I was underwhelmed with the brewery tour. Now my friends and I did the self guided tour but it was very short. The brewery in Dublin is very historic, lots of interactive displays. We had reservations at the restaurant and we were seated right away. The server was good and well informed. However, the menu selection was slim and overpriced. The menu in the beer tasting area offered a better selection and was well attended. The selection of beers was good. Overall, the visit was okay but I was expecting more in the way of the tour and things to see and do. The restaurant was okay but overpriced. If you're a local this is fine for a selection of beers. But if you driving several hours don't waste your time. Find a local craft brewery and you'll probably spend less and won't have as far to drive. read more

I am a huge fan of Black and Tan.. and you can't have a great Black and Tan without Guinness! I have been to the Brewery a few times now and look forward to my next trip. Scoped it out on my own the first time one afternoon and at first was a bit put off that there were so many kids running amuck, but found a bench away from the families and enjoyed watching the kids play and people walking around. Returned with my gentleman a few days later in the evening and the place had a totally different feel; we both had a great time. A few weeks later I brought my daughter and grandson for an afternoon beer and lunch, and once again a great time was had by all. My group was able to chat and enjoy an afternoon beerunch (beer with lunch) without having to chug and get the young ones out of their seats to burn off energy from sitting to long. I will return again in the future friends and family in tow. read more

Make your reservations for the restaurant in advance if going on a weekend. Our first time here. and we went with another couple. We got there early and did a self-tour walking around. Guided tours are $15 if you book early enough. I absolutely love the atmosphere here. We had a short wait at the ber and we got a couple of flights to sample 4 beers in each, and plenty of space to sit or stand and enjoy. During the warm weather it looks like they have ample seating outside, and even during cold weather had heat lamps running. Just a great vibe here that we loved a ton. The restaurant is called 1827 is spacious and beautiful. This is a little on the pricey side, my wife and I shared the burger $18 and the Scallops $32 Roasted Asparagus Risotto, Sweet Potato & Asparagus Hash, Gremolata, Beurre Blanc. The scallops were very good and a tasty dish overall. The burger was average but only ordered that to keep our tab down a bit. I did expect more from the burger though. Then again I've been ruined by the burgers at Koopers in Fells Point. Our friends had a flatbread they really liked and the Hanger Steak with Stout Demi $32 which he said was also very good. We had dessert, the bread pudding. Didn't knock my socks off but I did eat it all and was tasty. Between the drinks and food, we spent $100 for the two of us. Going here felt like an event, and made it more fun. I am told Mon and Tue are more chill. Either way a fantastic night, great sharing with friends, learning a little Guinness history. Was celebrating an anniversary here for brunch on Sunday. The poor experience began from the beginning by getting seated next to the kitchen in a fairly empty restaurant. When asked for another seating location it was met with a perception of reluctancy but words of customer service first by what appeared to be a floor manager. It continued through the meal with stale and luke warm cinammon rolls (pointed out nicely to waitress), room temperature main courses served in cast iron skillets that were used only for decoration (surprising that they weren't hot after first conversation about rolls), and stale biscuits. I'm not a chef but it seems to me that zapping that cast iron skillet in the oven at 450/500 for 5 min would solve the issue. It's very unfortunate because the taproom experience has always been top notch and I had very high expectations for the restaurant. Not being able to execute on hot food for brunch certainly leads me to believe the same would occur at dinner. For the prices and the atmosphere you would expect high quality but delivers with low quality food preparation. I will 100% be back for the taproom and outside atmosphere when it's nice out. It's highly unlikely I will be back to partake in the restaurant again, unfortunately. read more

Let me start out by saying that I was really looking forward to coming to Guiness and giving it a 5 star review. Had a reservation and let them know we were celebrating an anniversary. With the 1817 restaurant at least 2/3 empty we were seated back by the kitchen door until I said it wasn't going to work for us. We should have stayed there, because maybe our food would have come out hot. I think not! Not only was the food barely warm the cinnamon rolls were hard and dry. Served in a cast iron skillet.....aren't things served in a cast iron skillet to present it hot! The biscuit with the chicken & biscuit was EXTREMELY dry. I am thinking both rolls and biscuits were from day before. The only thing hot out of 4 meals was the eggs on top of hash; under eggs not! Very disappointed. After dropping $100. on brunch I don't think we will be going back for an expensive dinner. Save your money and sit outside and order a little something from their food truck. read more

Beer is amazing. Food is horrible! They served us oysters that were spoiled! They adjusted the oyster cost off of the bill after we sent them back to kitchen but the other items also seemed off. Bottom line: Don't eat there, just have a few beers and go elsewhere for dinner. read more

Awesome all around. HUGE establishment. Plenty of parking. Inside and outside seating or walk around. 1817 Restaurant is an open space with cool vibe, they take reservations. Food was very good (slightly high prices) food was fresh, hot and came out quickly. Had the Brown Guinness bread, fried pork belly, salad, chicken and burger. There is also a bar in restaurant, then another huge bar inside, seat yourself, inside or out. Finally an outside bar and food truck. Plenty of space to move around. Gift shop with anything Guinness you can think of. You can walk all 4 levels with your beer in hand. They do ask to keep the glasses inside, I guess they have plastic cups outside. We were inside due to the fact it was 8000 degrees outside. Lots of staff all around. They have some canned beer to go and growlers. If you do buy glassware you can get in engraved. There is a Lyft drop off/pick up area that is clearly marked. read more

I am giving it two stars because the beer is great! Service... not so much. I was visiting today with a group of 6 for a birthday. We pushed together two tables and half of our group was standing half sitting. We were approached by a staff member twice (same one) asking if he could take the table. We said no because we had a party of 6 right there. Finally he came back and forcefully pushed through and stated he was taking the table for a pregnant lady because "no one has sat when he was watching in the last 30 minutes". Then proceeded to take the table away. I am all for making pregnant people comfortable but customer service is important. Please do not take away our table for our party while we are sitting RIGHT HERE! Guinness... please teach your staff customer service. read more

We spent several hours here starting in the bar. There's lots of varied kinds of seating in the bar, and the workers are very pleasant. The variety of beer is excellent, and you can order 6.75 ounce beers, allowing you to try different kinds. There's also food at the bar, and it's quality was good. Then we went on a guided tour and tasting. The tour guide, Rebecca, was knowledgeable and personable. At the end of the tour, we tasted 4 different beers and learned a bit about how to judge them and tell them a part. The tour and tasting was definitely worth the price of the ticket. I was surprised to see that all tours for the day were sold out; luckily we had booked in advance. Then we went to dinner in 1817, the on site restaurant. The service was once again friendly and efficient, and the food was delicious. We had the scallops with risotto, and the Delmonico steak. Went there this past weekend. The band The Chesapeake Sons were playing and I have to say, they were awesome! Guinness brewery, however was anything but! After waiting in line for 30 minutes to get in we were told there were no more tables with umbrellas and the empty ones we saw were reserved for vips. It was 92 degrees out with blazing sun! They only had tables around the perimeter with umbrellas and all the rest were in a large grassy area fully exposed to the sun. Its funny because every table had an umbrella holder though?? Are they just too cheap to buy enough umbrellas for every table! It was way too hot to be out in the sun and there were many, many empty tables, which was kind of ironic because there was still a long line to get in. This band draws a big crowd. Apparently they weren't letting anyone in because they said they were running out of food! What?! I think the outdoor seating was filled to maybe 30% capacity. They didn't even have shade for the band when they first started playing! You have to order drinks from an app on your phone and eventually they show up and are already warm by the time you get them. I went to an ordering window and asked if I could get a bucket of ice and was told, "No, because the buckets will rust if we just fill them with ice!" Then I asked if I could get 6 cups of ice and borrow a tray. " Nope, can't let you do that." Again, what?! Other than the fantastic band, it really was a very disappointing experience. read more

This place is a lot of fun. We did the tour and tasting first and our tour guide Jim was awesome. Very knowledgeable, personable, and gave a fantastic tour. The brewery is so cool and has a new feel while remaining the rich historical presence. Jim also did a great job with the tasting. I am not a beer drinking, but my husband is and he loved that experience. It was very interesting to hear about the different drinks in depth and the history was great too. After the tasting we went to the taproom to wait for our table in the restaurant. We snacked on the fries and Brussels sprouts which were phenomenal. The Brussels sprouts were perfectly cooked and seasoned with a hint of sweetness. The fries were perfect bar food and the cheese dip was very good. After the taproom we were on to the restaurant and it did not disappoint. I had the beef stew and it was delicious. The vegetables were minced small which was nice because it made room for the beef to be the star of the dish. The beef was perfect and tender. Overall our experience was very positive and we would definitely come back. read more

Really nice place so far. It has a large outdoor area, and indoor area. They have food to order at the bar, or go upstairs to eat at the restaurant. To me, the food is alright and expensive; I'd much rather go to the food trucks when they are there. Great place to hang out with friends, a chill place. The staff had been VERY friendly and accommodating. Only bummer is that they close at 10pm. read more

I booked a tour and tasting as a birthday present for my partner, at $15 per person. Tour runs about 45 minutes, mostly through areas you could view independently, but the commentary is nice, plus 4 tasting samples afterwards. It was crowded (had to follow someone to get a parking space, but good business for them on a chilly Saturday night). The tour guide (Kylena) kept everyone together and was clearly very passionate about Guinness. She raved about the addition of headphones for tour guests, which were helpful in loud hallways. She also gave us the suggestion afterwards to eat downstairs (limited bar menu, still tasty and good for people watching) when the restaurant had a long wait. There were also two other male employees, didn't get their names, but that helped us maneuver/avoid some of the the crowds (let us know about multiple bars in different rooms, helped me nab some seating, etc). It was a really great time, glad to have stumbled upon this experience! We'll hopefully be back (probably with a reservation) to check out the restaurant. read more

1817 at Guinness Open Gate is a cool venue but I was very disappointed that the restaurant had no regard for our tour reservations at the Guinness Brewery. Our restaurant reservation was at 11 and tour at 12:30. You would think this would be plenty of time. The restaurant caused us to be 15 minutes late to our tour and we just made it in before being locked out. I went to the restaurant host 2 times to ask that they try to speed things up. I went to the tour desk and could not postpone our tour as they were booked solid. To make matters worse, the food was served at just above room temperature. Instead of a relaxing brunch followed by a very cool tour, stress levels were high among all 8 of my guests. We will return to the Guinness Brewery and Tap Room but probably not to 1817. Too bad. This could have been a great experience. read more

Waited almost 15 minutes for drinks! Our waiter was in her own little world it seemed and I saw her on her phone several times. She seemed as if she brought problems from home into work with her. When we got our food there was a red hair in it... our server had long red hair. I wear black extensions so not mine and my husband is bald. The most disappointing experience at a brewery I've ever had. As a family who has traveled to Ireland several times and enjoys a good Guinness, this brewery was extremely underwhelming food, beer and service wise. The employees were extremely rude and made it seem like they were watching over my group the entire time. A manager coming over and telling a group member that he was having a warning before getting kicked out for no apparent reason. After this encounter, she described our group over a head piece to other employees making us extremely uncomfortable. We left shortly after drinking disappointing beer and food and will NEVER be returning to this brewery ever again. Many other local breweries with a much much better experience and vibe. AND no dogs at this the Guinness brewery?! Now that's the biggest let down. read more

Our entrees cost between $24-$34 and they were very small and just average tasting. Such a fun place with a great vibe! I gave Guinness a second chance on food. I attended their St. Paddy's Day event and ordered a corned beef sandwich. While you can reasonably expect some fat with corned beef, this sandwich had far more fat than meat. It was really bad. I returned it and they refunded my money. I expected the manager to say something to the effect of "wow, we shouldn't have served you that sandwich". Nope, nothing. So, go for the beer but eat before you go. My first experience was on St. Patrick's Day, and even with so many people, the lines moved quickly and the bartenders were exceptional. I plan on going back on a non-event day so that I can enjoy the patio or all of the lounge chairs that are found every where.
