I had been to Guitar Center in Scottsdale several times and had always had a good experience. I went to this location in Avondale for the first time as I had seen online that they had the guitar that I wanted. I brought 2 guitars to trade in. They were busy, but helped me right away. Scott is a very helpful and knowledgeable professional. He took prompt and efficient care of my trade in, answered all my questions about the guitar and amp I wanted to buy, made the entire process super easy, and got me every thing else I had needed as well. Hey, I received two gear card reward certificates via email. So, I entered both certificates for $130 on the cart page and sure enough, it was too good to be true. $130 in merchandise. But, wait. I had an issue with payment method and canceled the order. Now, I'm adding stuff to the cart again as the payment method issue is solved. I'm told I can't use the certificates again. WTF? I cancel an order and my $130 reward is up in smoke. That's total BS. Not one person in management can solve this? I'll be doing business with sweetwater or zzounds from here on out. My favorite place to go to check out guitars reasonable prices and the staff is well informed about the instruments they carry. I like checking out the vinyl collection as well. It's fun just trying out new guitar gives me motivation to learn more songs on mine. read more

Some employees in some Guitar Centers are good, but during this visit I got one a$$h0le and one who knew what he was doing. I had previously purchased a recorder with a $30 coupon at a different Guitar Center store. Within the week Guitar Center sent me a $50 coupon. So I go into the store with my receipt and requested a price match for the difference as they have a 45-day price match guarantee. The salesman looks at the receipt and says, "Oh, this is from a different store you'll have to take this back to the same store." And then he quickly give me back the receipt. I look at him and chuckle and ask for the manager. I asked for the manager because this dumb a$$ obviously doesn't even know his own store's policies. He gets mad at me because he thinks the manager is going to tell me the same thing. He walks off in a huff to go get the manager. Tells the manager with an attitude in his voice that I need his help. After telling the manager what I was there for, the manager says, "Sure we can do that." read more

Gotta tell you... after reading some of these reviews I thought about heading over to Sam Ash to buy my guitar.... I'm glad I did not. I walked in and saw a bearded young man playing a guitar, once he saw me he stopped, welcomed me and asked how he could help. I told him I was looking for a specific guitar and asked him a few questions ...after he thoroughly explained everything I asked about... I asked if they had a guitar I saw online (website said they had one) he looked at the wall and said, they must have just sold it. He then asked me to give him a minute while he checked the inventory... 20 minutes later he produced the EXACT guitar I was looking for!... But when I played it I heard a nasty buzz coming from the low E-string and told him about it.... A couple of the guys then went to work to adjust the guitar right away. So for those of you complaining about customer service... i really have no idea what you are talking about! These guys went out of their way to educate me, and to insure I was happy with the product. At the end of the day I wasn't happy with that product haha, and bought a different guitar, but the point is that they were AWESOME!!! If you go in there.... make sure to ask for SAM THE MAN... thats the bearded guy... he will take good care of you! read more

Was sold a used amp that had horribly ripped covering. Tried to come back to trade for another instrument. Was told they'd pass. It's okay to sell but not okay to take back for a trade up? I'm not from Phoenix stop by to grab a practice pad and seriously worst customer service ever

Had a less than good experience with this Guitar Center location. Recently purchased a looper pedal. Had the option to include it with a website order for another item purchased earlier in the week but thought I would support the local store - other item ordered from website was not available from local store. Was assured that the looper pedal was "new", even though the box was brought from the back room somewhere and the pedal was removed from the display case. Well new pedals should come with instructions but this one didn't which I didn't discover until the next day. When I called the store, I couldn't even be connected with the right area (accessories) despite remaining on hold for a long period of time so there was no resolution to be had like maybe online instruction book or "we'll mail a copy to your house". Instead I had to drive 13 miles to the store only to have a "fresh" pedal to be mailed from the Scottsdale location - I guess there is a difference between a "new" pedal and a "fresh" pedal. The worst part of the experience was not receiving any kind of apology from the service manager for the inconvenience, leaving me with the conclusion that that must be the way this Guitar Center conducts business. Memorial weekend we went in to purchase a Martin guitar for my husband's birthday. We had the worst customer service possible. The first issue was that the style we had chosen 2 weeks prior (the staff said to wait for coupons & Memorial Day sales, but couldn't tell us which style would be on sale). So of course, they did not have an unused product in back. The "open box" item was missing pieces & we asked for a manager but apparently he didn't have the time, even though he was standing around talking to other staff. He refused to speak to us directly about a discount for an "open box item" (& Martin guitars are very expensive so to purchase a used one without some type of discount would be worthless). We also had a coupon that they would not allow us to use even after all the terrible customer service. They refused to even discuss a discount & said that we should feel lucky that it had already been broken in for us.This store lost a $2000 sale all because the staff & manager couldn't take the time to even speak with us & offer some type of discount. We couldn't even get a guitar case out of them as who would want to take a Martin guitar out of the store without some type of protection. We asked for a case that was $24. So no discount offered, no guitar case offered & NO customer service offered. Matter of fact, our customer service rep kept walking away to help other people. We, up until that day, had purchased all of our guitars there. Obviously, we did NOT purchase any item from them & as we were walking out the door, the customer representative, with a disrespectful tone, said "have a nice day". We ended up purchasing the exact same Martin guitar online from Sam Ash for a cheaper price & free shipping. Even though it was online we were able to chat with a representative who wa very helpful & extremely friendly. We also qualified for a coupon that took an additional $100 off the price of the guitar. In addition, we received 5 free magazine subscriptions for a year. The guitar came on time, in perfect condition & in a protective box. We couldn't be happier with our choice to walk out of Guitar Center & never will we look back. read more

I have a story about Guitar Center. First, I can honestly say there are a few GC employees who know their stuff. However, one day I went nto a GC store in Detroit to purchase a reverb unit. Now such a unit is not really complex, however, the sales guy who was helping me could not answer even the simplest of questions. Eventually I gave up and waited to make the purchase on another day after I could talk with someone who was comepetent. A few weeks later, my wife and I went to the movies at an AMC movie complex. We get our tickets and then get in line to purchase our popcorn and other goodies, and guess who I see selling popcorn at the counter? Yep, if it wasn't my old GC friend who had no idea what a reverb unit was for. He was able to give us "extra butter" with no problem at all !!! read more

Some time ago I started a sound engineering company. I had a pretty good idea about the basics, but had been away from the field for a few years. There was a steep learning curve with lots of bumps ahead and the crew at Guitar Center in Avondale demonstrated total competence and exercised great patience with me. They were able to help me sort through the plethora of pro-audio gear to achieve the best results I could hope to attain for the budget I was working with. For all of you nay sayers out there, take some time to get to know your salesperson before you make a purchase. You'll find that your purchasing experience will be much more pleasurable. From what I've read, seems to me you other reviewers are a little self-important or don't do your homework as thoroughly as you should. Horrible customer service. Called up because I bought an used amp that no longer is working. Had two different employees look up my last name (spelling it each time) and they both acted like I was in the wrong by saying "are you sure you bought it here?". Turns out, after giving them the serial number, they had my name misspelled in their computers. They did not seem to care they are selling "refurbished" equipment that does not work. I suggest anyone NOT buy their refurbished equipment. I will NEVER buy from this location again and will avoid Guitar Center at all costs. read more

I like this Guitar Center because they're actually fairly well stocked. Although they may not be stocked in everything I want them to be stocked in, they do tend to carry the most popular stuff. I know musicians can be very finicky as I am on myself, but when you think about it Guitar Center has to have what they can sell on hand. As a keyboardist Primarily, they don't carry a lot of the workstations and other keyboards I would want them to carry but they carry the popular keyboards that sell. All in all I do you like this Guitar Center because when I need something they almost always have it in terms of your every day things that I musician needs. read more

I didn't go to Guitar Center expecting good service, and I got exactly what I expected. I was visiting Phoenix for a week, so I decided to go to Guitar Center to look for a cheap acoustic guitar. I was happy to find one that played reasonably well and came with a gig bag for only $75, so I decided to purchase it. There were three employees standing around talking to each other, so I went to the first one and told him I'd like to buy the guitar. "Oh, you will need to go to this guy over here." He was nice enough to actually carry the guitar to the other person, who was on the phone, and let them know I wanted the guitar, but, not only was the other guy on the phone, he also had another customer he was helping. I waited about 10 minutes, while the other employees were still standing around talking to each other. Then I left. Guitar Center needs to learn what I call "Rob's First Rule of Retail," which is, "If you have someone who wants to give you money, make it easy for them to do that." It's not that 10 minutes was a long time to wait, although I have no idea how much longer I would have waited, it just galls me that you have three people standing there doing NOTHING while I am standing there like an idiot waiting for the one person who is doing any work there. Sure, I'm only spending $75 THIS TIME, but next time I may be in there buying a high $$ item. Enough ranting. . .Guitar Center sucks. . .I will probably do what I should have done in the first place--get the guitar off of Craigslist. read more

I would just like to give a special shout out to the employees/management at Guitar Center on 99th and McDowell. I have gone into this store multiple times over the past two weeks as the person in charge of picking items up for a huge project we have here at the school. As I entered the store looking completely lost because I have zero experience in this area I hear a very pleasant voice simply saying "hello and welcome to Guitar Center". You may think that a simple hello is very small, but I have a huge pet peeve when it comes to customer service so it was beyond exciting to hear that wonderful welcome when I arrived into the store. I went to the counter to pick up three 100ft cables and the young man at the counter (can't remember his name) couldn't find my order so Dominic Silva came to help him. Mr. Silva was so helpful and polite. He made one call and found my order with no issues. After I was all paid for he asked my name and even helped me carry the items to my car. Later on that night I was back for round two of what felt like a million trips to this store. When I arrived later on that night it was pretty busy, but over the crowd I hear a "hello Tanisha" I look around and it was Mr. Silva OMG!! I told myself that is super cool that he remembered my name. I have worked retail before and I know how difficult it can be to remember customer's names especially during the holidays when you see hundreds of people a day. With that small attention to detail and or his good memory (lol) I felt that I needed to share how this store goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Fast-forward a few days, I went in and purchased several items (Thank you Joe for your patience and great customer service) After I was all paid and ready to go, I realize that we might have a problem. The amount of items I purchased and the size vehicle that I have don't match up. Joe helps me outside with my purchase and as we are trying to cram everything in my car Ms. Molly is leaving for the day and decides to help. She tells both of us to watch out as she is the Tetris master and sure enough she showed both of us up and got everything to fit into my car nice and organized with no problem, she didn't even bust a sweat. (She deserves a raise) I say all that to say this, I can only speak for my experience at Guitar Center, but with this exceptional service you have gained a loyal customer for all of our future music needs. p.s. I called in to see if they had any Maschine Mikro MKII's and the employee assured me that they did. I go in and they sell me the product at full price. When I get home, I find out that it has been opened and that I can't even use the serial keys given because they have already been used. I call and they tell me its too late to come in today, so I should go to the Phoenix location tomorrow since they looked it up and told me that they have NEW ones. I call the Phoenix location and of course, the Avondale location lied. Never go to this location ever. There were hairs and grime on the exterior of the product and the plastic packaging had been torn upon opening. read more

I ordered LED lights system and was helped by TJ, who was great. The lights came in and no one bothered to let me know. I picked them up, took them to the gig and one of the lights did not work. The stand was also broken. I took everything back. When I approached the counter, 2 young guys were less than friendly. I told them what I was there for and they acted like I broke the equipment, asking me questions. It took almost 30 minutes for them to take them back and order new ones. They kept calling TJ to help them with the transaction. One guy at the counter never acknowledged me, it looks like he was on the internet. The other guy acted like I may have been bothering him. Everytime I go to guitar center at this location the help is not friendly (except the drum department - they are real good). read more
