Kevin is either an asshole or shouldn't be behind the register, you can decide after reading this - bought a very nice, expensive and well taken care of bass in to sell to them and was told that it's worth more with the pick guard on it (approx $420) , Came back the next day with the pick guard on the bass and I meet Kevin, after waiting 20mins in line I was told "I don't think we have time for a sell today" (6pm on a Monday) after examining the bass for a total of 30 seconds he goes "woah" - brings the bass over to another team member and shows him a "warped" guitar neck - (we'll come back to this later don't forget about this), the other team member goes "that's not dramtic" So Kevin comes back over and explains to me how GC would buy the bass for around $300, I explain to him how yesterday I was at the same GC and they offered me $420 but only if it had the pick guard on it, he then questions if I was at the same GC and wanted me to then describe the team member I was talking to yesterday. After this game of "Guess Who" was settled, Kevin begins explaining to me how the neck of the guitar is "warped" and how the Guitar techs would need to fix it, not being cocky here but as someone who has fixed and built guitars from scratch , this is not a complicated procedure. So now as Kevin is explaining to me how the guitar techs would have to actually work, ANOTHER team member from the peanut gallery buts in and goes "the company is going out of business you should just hold onto this guitar and wait" So I did what any logical person would do, I walked out of Guitar Center and here I am writing the review, I don't wish anything bad on Kevin, I just wish he could be properly trained. I got a price from Sweetwater on a new Fender American Meteora Bass of $1,790. I went to GC to play one and check it out. The retail price is $2,299. I asked what the price would be. Was told $2,299. I mentioned I had a quote for less from Sweetwater, they didn't care and wouldn't budge on the price. Yes I paid about $70 shipping from Sweetwater, and about the same for a good setup from All Music. Guitar Center is only good for checking out guitars...buy elsewhere. They will eventually go out of business. I also had to wait at least twenty minutes for the guy at the register to locate the bass and bring it out, while three other employees lounged and talked to each other in the back. I'm frustration regarding the repair service for my bass, which I purchased from this store. Within a month of purchase, a string broke, and shortly after, the instrument developed a strange buzzing sound. I returned it to the store for repair on 2/8/25. However, It's been a month now. This is for Guitar Center Carle Place only!! I sent three emails regarding buying a guitar to Guitar Centers near me. Patrick at Carle Place responded in a couple of hours (on a holiday) so I went there. I got a response from another the next day and still waiting for the third....I traded an acoustic and got a fair and reasonable price. I took the Epiphone Les Paul home but found it had some sort of corrosion on the pickups. I took it back thinking I'd have to wait on Epiphone for a replacement, but Matt gave me a replacement on the spot! It's an hour drive to Carle Place when there are other stores closer to me but I'll be going there anytime I need something in the future. Plus there's free parking right by the door!! I have been shopping at all guitar Centers in local metropolitan area and Connecticut frequently since the early 90's. Today was the first time I lost it. I told the store manager. This place sucks. He turned around and said ,"What did you say". I repeated that. He said I disrespected him and I should leave. He threatened to call the police but I was there to pick up an item that I purchased online so I couldn't leave. In retrospect I shouldn't have said that. But I am hoping that maybe good will come of the incident. I do apologize for my outburst. What was the trigger. I believe that the store was way understaffed. The staff person Matt who is wonderful was working on another customer and it was a very long transaction. My pedal just needed to be handed to me and another person just needed a quick ring up. What set things off was the store manager came out from the back and I was happy because I thought help was on the way. I said to him that Matt needs help. He blew past the register and said "I'm sure he does" with a cavalier attitude. Why did he have to say that? Why couldn't he have some sensitivity to people waiting? What the manager doesn't get it that he came across very passive aggressive basically saying without saying. I don't care how long you have to wait. I have observed this manager many times with a line Shooting the breeze while people are waiting endlessly. It's not all the time. I been shopping there for over 30 years. It's always been my home store. I don't want to as a customer feel like I'm an imposition or bothering or inconveniencing him. Everyone else has been great. I am not really sure why this store get so many low stars. We have visited here a few times an have found the staff very attentive and friendly. Unlike the store of he similar type in the area, the guitars are right in front of you when you come in the door. WOW! They are every where, duh, the reason the name Guitar Center. Back to the review.... We were looking for a Bass guitar and were having difficulty finding one that was light enough for G to hold comfortably. Alternative Bass Acoustic were being offered at other stores which were lighter but were not what G wanted. Amazingly here the sales associate went over to the wall and found the perfect Bass guitar for G and it was light. I don't think I have ever seen G happier to find a new toy. It totally brought out the 14 year old in him. The store was relatively busy, and we were sure that making sales was important so we gave the salesman permission to help others while we discussed price and accessories etc. The laid back experience allowed us time to look around at guitar strap and other thing that G would need to accompany his new toy. During the visit we also inquired about the in house guitar lessons. G opted to call back and reschedule his lessons because they did not have the actual guitar in stock. When the guitar finally came in, G took his free lesson and was very impressed with the quality of the lesson and was looking forward to taking actual hour long lessons. We were very pleased with Marty who was our salesman and would recommend anyone starting out to contact him if you have any questions. He can definitely guide you in the direction you need to go as far as your first guitar and staying within your budget range. We were very pleased with the transaction. Have been shopping here for 6 years and there are always new managers. Waited for 20 min for a simple return. returned a 3 day old speaker and was charged a restocking fee because it had fingerprints which got on it when i was putting it back in the box as it was never actually used. He tested it and everything was perfect. Said the box was open so that added on to the restocking fee. How is one supposed to use it and test without opening the box at least? i had the the pro coverage on it just in case as well. Great group of people who work here. I purchased one of my guitars here last year and have always returned to purchase strings and other accessories. I try to limit my visits here since every time I go, I have this urge to want to buy another guitar or accessory I don't really need, the only thing that stops me is the fear of my wife beating me senseless if I return with another guitar :( Since my son now wants to learn to play the drums, I have good reason to come here. I have never been to the percussion side of the store. We met a nice employee named "Jon" This was his first day but he seemed like a seasoned pro. He explained the different drumsticks, drum sets and cymbals. Since my son has just started to play, our drum instructor just wanted us to buy a percussion pad for him to build up his speed, accuracy and rhythm. Jon was very informative and showed us the different sets of percussion practice pads they sold. We were very happy and bought a nice set of Vic Firth 5B sticks and Vater Percussion practice pads. We plan to return when he is ready to move up to the big boy drum set. Practice hard my son and maybe one day you'll be playing on the biggest stage in the world! One of 2 large chain music stores in the area, staff is always friendly and helpful. They have a large square footage of space dedicated for all musical instruments and musician's needs including DVDs and books. They encourage you to try the equipment---people are always playing here. A good place to visit if you're starting out or need some standard equipment. If you're in the market for rare pieces, you're most likely better off searching the net. They have handicapped accessible restrooms as well as candy machines (for a quarter) in the front of the store as welll as near the restroom. There's a large parking lot and you can walk to Barnes & Noble, Stop & Shop and other little shops in the mall. read more

My boyfriend came in today to fix his guitar and went to this old guy in the front counter with a long white beard who was talking on his phone barely acknowledging him. My boyfriend told him he's wondering how much it would cost to fix the guitar and was told the technician was not in today. That's fine. But he still wanted a second opinion and asked the old guy if he thought it was worth him fixing the guitar and the old guy was like "Uhm I wouldn't know that. I don't know anything. I'm not the technician." I understand that he's not the technician so he wouldn't know the specifics but.. as a front desk employee who works here shouldn't he at least have some general knowledge about guitars and whether it's worth fixing or not? He didn't even let my boyfriend take his guitar out to show him because he was too busy yapping away on his phone. Highly unprofessional and lazy. DO NOT take lessons here! They charge your card whether the lesson is given or not. The instructors cancel the class but the store still charges you with no make up classes. Danny the manager is incompetent in helping out. They do not care if their instructor calls out for vacation. They will charge you for the lesson anyone. This was the first time in some time that I decided to drive to a store to shop instead of just ordering online.. and oh what a nightmare it was. It was Guitar Center of Carle Place that made it so glaringly obvious to me why retail stores are failing and crumbling under online sales foot. About a month or so ago- I go into Guitar Center of Carle Place ready to spend around $300-$400 on a new snare drum. I did a little bit of research beforehand and had a few snares in mind that I wanted to test out and hear live before choosing and buying one. I go to the drum department and there is only one person working there who is ringing up someone at the drum department cash register. His customer was buying a few things and asking about warranties and whatnot.. no big deal. I waited patiently and didn't want to interrupt. After about 10-15 minutes he was finally done and it was my turn. I explain how I'd like to buy a snare, had a few in mind, and would like to test them. Are you ready for what the Guitar Center of Carle Place drum department employee says to me? "Oh. You should have told me earlier because I need to get another employee with the keys to the drums so it might take a while". I stand there dumbfounded. I should have interrupted his sale and informed him of what I was doing before I waited on line? And why wouldn't the drum department employee already have the keys to the snare drum shelf? I was literally speechless. So off the drum department employee goes into the main store to locate another employee with the keys. At least 5 minutes go by and finally the other employee comes back with the keys. He asks what I wanted to do. I explain again I'd just like to test out a few snares. He explains that it is difficult to unlock and get each snare off the shelf... Then he asks if there was a particular one I had in mind. I explain that there were 3 snares I researched that I wanted to test. I ask him a question about the first one I ask him to unlock and he says, "Sorry I'm not a drum guy." Turns out the first guy who left the drum department to find the key guy was the drum guy. He was MIA since going to get the key guy- and the key guy/guitar specialist is recommending I just play/test each snare while it is still chained to the shelf. Haha funny... but he wasn't kidding. Finally, another 5-10 minutes later, the first snare I wanted to test is unchained and off the wall.. and totally untuned and unplayable. Guitar guy with the drum keys needs to go find drum guy to tune the snares. It went on like this and eventually they got to tuning a snare. It sounded terrible after they tuned it. I had been there nearly 45 minutes at this point and not learned or accomplished anything. I left and bought 3 snares on Amazon- tested them and returned the ones I didn't like. It was an infinitely better experience than shopping at Guitar Center of Carle Place. read more

Sad to write a bad review for the first time. This store is just one of the most complete guitar center I've been, but the customer service is just bad, they know you are there but will keep acting like if you aren't. Was waiting politely for one guy to finish with one client and after the transaction was done he kept talking about how he met someone and she got engaged and so many other things that really was just disrespectful seeing that I was right behind the girl. How you gonna spend 15-20-30 minutes after you are done with a client just talking, knowing you have more clients waiting. Other employees pass by me and didn't even ask are you being help or anything, they keep acting like I was invisible, men if you see me standing in a place waiting at least for curiosity ask me. As I said before trying to be polite with the other customer being help I just look at the guy a couple of times like saying "come on men let's get to business" to which he kept inmutable. Worst feeling for a client is feel they are ignored. I don't think the have to fired everyone like some else mentioned, but at least train/retrain them in customer service and business efficiency. read more

If I could give zero stars ... I would - Yelp please make this feature an option! This place has gone down hill, and (like another reviewer stated) is full of incompetent, lazy people. I used to frequent this place alot. My family had an entertainment business a decade ago, and we would come in here all the time. The staff back then was very helpful and knowledgeable. Fast forward to the present, and the people at Guitar Center are just plain lazy. I came in during a Sunday afternoon - not busy whatsoever and you can count the number of customers out on the floor on two hands. Meanwhile the employee to customer ratio was basically 3:1. I came in with a friend who needed to exchange some wires because he grabbed the wrong one from the wall. We walked to the back of the store where we approached a clerk at the counter, who was doing nothing but staring at his cellphone. My friend told him that he needed to exchange some wires because he grabbed the wrong one. In addition, he wanted to know if they had the one he needed in stock. The clerk, barely even looking up from his cellphone, said, "If we have it, it should be on the wall. Go look for it yourself." Then he went back to his cellphone. Seriously? My friend and I just looked at e/o like wtf, but hey he still needed the wire so went to go search for it ourselves. We come back to the counter and the clerk had disappeared. There were two other guys there, who looked busy doing something on the computer. They didn't even look up to acknowledge us. As soon as a manager for the dept walked by, they perked up and told us someone will help us. They called some other dude who was walking by (and looked like he was busy doing something else), and told him to ring us up. Even that seemed to be a chore. TLDR; don't come here, the customer service sucks. If you can go to Sam Ash - the guys there are cool and more than willing to help. read more

This store is a great example of why the internet is killing physical businesses. Disinterested and lackadaisical staff can't compete with the brutal efficiency of Amazon. Attentive and helpful staff? That would set them apart. Unfortunately the Guitar Center in Carle Place makes me pine for the cold, faceless (yet effortless) web facade of a virtual retailer. To be fair, I've been to this location exactly once, and my review is based solely off of that. However I feel that I must have received the best they had to offer because I was one of maybe 4 or 5 customers in the entire store. We were easily outnumbered by staff. I went there to buy a microphone and pick up a 2 mic stand + cables + accessories combo that was too good of a deal to pass up. There was no one in the mic section, which is to say no customers. There were three employees locked in a personal discussion. One of them eventually acknowledged me and reluctantly asked if I needed help. (I'd been standing there looking back and forth between them in a hopeful sort of way, so yes.) I told him which mic I wanted and, nice and leisurely, he got it off the shelf for me. I told him I was also interested in the combo deal and showed him the relevant product page from GC's website. He had to get a manager. Which took about 10 minutes. (Again, the store was empty). The manager OK'd the deal, and the sales guy started gathering items for the combo. He took them behind the counter, rang it all up and I paid. (This took longer than you'd think). I checked the bag and it looked like everything was in there. I also checked the receipt to make sure I got the right price on the combo deal. When I got home I realized I was missing the supposed-to-be-included small tabletop mic stand. I checked the receipt to see if it was on there and realized that I was charged $15 above the price of the mic listed on GC's website. (The price wasn't shown in the store -- I though it would be the same). They were already closed by that point. I didn't end up going back because 1) I could foresee that trying to get a partial refund and a mic stand could take at least an hour of frustration, and 2) I felt stupid for not being more diligent in the store and didn't want to admit to my stupidity. That was a few weeks ago. Why am I just now writing this review? Because it's been bothering me since. Why should I have to feel like an imposition for coming into a store to buy something? Why should I leave a store feeling like an idiot? Why should it be entirely my responsibility to ensure that my order is correct and priced accurately? I take some of the blame, sure, but between the manager and three other employees surely if they all put their heads together they could have gotten this right. I can understand the purpose of a retail location for musical instruments that you might have to try and see for yourself. When it comes to commodity items like microphones, cables, mixers, other electronics and accessories: Shop online. (And not on Guitar Center's website.) PS - I realize that some stores have different online and in-store pricing. But the mic in question was available online for in-store pickup, so there's no reason for the price to be different. Had I known that it was different I could have just ordered it online using my phone while standing in front of the order pickup desk. But of course the need to do that would be idiotic in the first place. read more
