I would rather spend more money at a small mom and pop shop than go to this place again. People in guitar center shirts don't work there apparently and you can't find someone who actually does. The big guy there that acts like he knows everything doesn't do anything. I asked for help about an amplifier and I was gonna drop $1,000+ on a Marshall but they didn't seem Interested in making a sale. I've been shopping at Guitar Center for decades and the Stafford location is easily the absolute worst in the Greater Houston Area. My advice: treat this location like an inventory warehouse. If they have what you need in stock, order it online for pickup. In store, not only will you not get any help, you'll get sneers. That's weird considering this location is seriously struggling. This location has a good selection but the customer service is horrible. I walked in with my husband who was looking to replace his guitar. No one acknowledged us as we walked in, no one came to see if we needed assistance. I could see if the store was packed but we were the only ones there and not one person raised their heads to speak. When Guitar Center first came to Sugar Land I remember they had a really cool grand opening! Now their Westheimer location had been a mainstay forever and when they moved that one that was a good decision as the current one on Westheimer is pretty much a Super Store! I really like their vintage guitar rooms! Now this review is going to be primarily on the service I've experienced at the GC in Sugar Land and not so much on the studio or instructors they may have. And this review is written mainly from memory as I have been to the Sugar Land store many times since they have been open. Many times. To restock on picks. Pick up extra capos or cords or accessories and even a guitar or two! Living in the Houston area most of my life, I have been around music stores forever. Favorite hang outs especially when I was a teen. Sometimes you can meet some really cool people! As someone who has a passion for guitars this is one of those places which you can spend the whole afternoon at. Just checking out all the gear and guitars. Trying them out... Restraining yourself from getting another one etc. lol! I've actually met a luthier in training at this location! I can't remember his name but I spent a lot of time talking to him. He was probably one of the most interesting fellas I've met there! Others have been patrons that I've bumped into most of the time in the acoustic room. Talking shop. Especially about Taylor guitars and swapping licks etc. Those experiences have been interesting. Especially when you meet someone who's really good! In a nutshell, this Sugar Land location is a well stocked location convenient for residents. Now I have yet to experience any planned events since the grand opening but to be truthful it's been awhile since I've been there. I think for them to sponsor other musicians to perhaps make appearances or play some of the products in store might generate more interest. Oftentimes I find myself usually making the trip out to Rockin' Robin on Shepherd where I bought my first electric guitar when I was 15. I've met some famous musicians there and it is without doubt, one of the coolest music shops in town! They have a room full of Collings guitars that is my favorite to hang out in. Ask for Jimmy....the nicest guy ever! Full of great stories! But if looking for a guitar GC is a great place! They will price match (like musician's friend) and usually their inventory is decent. The one on Westheimer seems better stocked but Sugar Land is not bad. Now as far as personnel there is not really anyone I can say is a stand out and it seems like you're always seeing new faces so attrition is probably high! But the store is conveniently located. Loud sometimes on the weekends when you have a bunch of kids in there cranked up at full volume.... But I always like to hit the acoustic room for some peaceful bonding (I've had my eye on this Taylor 814ce!). Mainly during the weekdays when it's not so crazy.... Best time to buy is probably in November when they have their Black Friday sales but go early because the best deals usually get snatched up quickly! All in all a pretty decent place! read more

This Guitar Center has been around for as long as I've been in Sugar Land (5 years) but I've only visited it a few times and I'm not sure why because the employees here are all so friendly and helpful! I came in to purchase a bag for my ukulele. As I was browsing, Steve came up and asked me what I was looking for and if I needed help (that's a loaded question, I always need help.) as he asked this, a group of 3 cheerful guys walked in and all hailed Steve, saying how great of a guy he was and that I was in good hands. This was comforting, but I thought they were probably just joking around. I asked Steve if they had any other bags (I was looking for a Córdoba bag but they only had a different generic brand bag). He kindly checked in the back for me and came out a few minutes later with a disappointed look on his face. He suggested I try finding it online and was sorry he couldn't help. As I was leaving now the store, Steve called me back over and told me he might have found one in the system, saying it was in the back room. After heading back there, Steve came out with a Córdoba bag! He let me examine it and went to go grab the same brand and model ukulele that I had just purchased. He wanted to make sure it would fit and, unfortunately, it did not. He did proceeded to log online and look through the website to find one but had no luck. The fact that Steve went through all this trouble to help me out really made me appreciate the kindness of strangers. I know that it is his job to help customers but Steve went above and beyond. He could have easily let me walk away the first time but he didn't. As far as the products, can't say I looked around too much but from what I could see, there was a vast variety of acoustic guitars, electric guitars, drums, keyboards, and strings. Unless you're looking for something extremely specific, I'd have a hard time believing you wouldn't be able to find it here. I have been to this location twice now in an attempt to get an inexpensive $100.00 acoustic guitar. Times are tough and I didn't have alot of cash but I had a Peavy raptor electric guitar sitting around that I don't play because I prefer the sound of an acoustic. I had recently had a new Floyd rose locking tremolo put on it before I got it. I took my guitar in , one guy spent 30in looking at it, then another guy sat and messed with it. This clown was trying to tune it with the neck lock,locked down and I had to tell him before he broke my strings. Then a third guy takes a 5 min look at it and honest to God offers me 15 dollars for it. I had already picked out a 99.00 guitar to trade because the first guy said that was doable, so I was cool with that. Even though my Peavy was worth more. Then the guy informed me he meant they were only giving me 15.00 for the guitar no trade. My jaw hit the floor and I didn't know how to react. 15.00 are you serious Guitar Center. I don't know what kinda game this store is running. It would have been better to say you weren't interested than insult your customers that way. Either you are outright trying to rip off your customers or your employees don't have a clue to the value. The Floyd rose was worth 100.00 alone used. Needless to say I walked out insulted and drove 60miles back home. Today I decided to give it another try. I was going to Houston anyways so I figured I would get rid of my DW5000 drum pedal. It was used yes had some scratches on the foot part of the pedal as expected. I looked online and guitar center had these used ranging from 120 on up to 250 used depending on the model there are different options. Strap driven or chain driven. Mine was chain. Again two young girls that didn't know anything about drums. Looked in your system and offered me 27 bux for it. I paid almost 250 for it. It cost me 27.00 to drive there. Needless to say I have taken 2 items into this store even at pawn shop prices 180 were worth 180 bux. And guitar center couldn't work on a trade of a cheap used 100 guitar they probably took in on trade for 20 bux. I'll never buy so much as a guitar pick from this place. I have been here a few time also bought a Yamaha from them and I must say they are least bothered about their customers. No one cares what you want no one cares even check the inventory or even assist their customers. Few weeks ago I was here to buy a Saxaphone and when I enquired this guy at the register was least bothered and pointed me to an end where there was just one cheap chinese sax. When I asked questions about it this guy never answered my questions but kept speaking like I was asking the instrument for free. Also he gave me so much bullshit in just a few sentences like I was born yesterday. Anyway I visited the one at Westheimer and they are totally opposite. I bought a guitar here. No one offered to help pick one out. The one I liked had a big gouge in it, and they didn't have any others. I asked them to order one without a gouge. I also asked for a case. When it arrived, they gave me a shipping box. The salesperson said it contained the case and guitar. I said I didn't think so. I sat down in the middle of Guitar Center and unpacked the box to find it was just a guitar case, no guitar. The salesperson went in the back and found another shipping box with my guitar in it. I had to unpack the guitar in the middle of Guitar Center so I could tune it and see how it sounded. No one offered to help. The salesperson was busy with a bunch of other things. Eventually I decided the guitar was worth keeping, but I spent another 15 minutes trying to buy some picks. Want to know why Amazon and eBay are killing brick and mortar? It's because I can unpack a guitar in the comfort of my living room. Guitar Center should have my stuff ready before they send me an email to pick it up. read more

This place is a zoo that always seems to have plenty of sales people who never can help you right away. The usual wait time is at least 20 minutes. Very disorganized which tends to keep the sales teens rushing around aimlessly. You need a mgr with a key just to buy a stylus! That meant a 30 min. wait for us because one mgr was on break while the other had several other people to help first. Crazy efficienient. The place is usually well stocked, and once helped, the staff usually knows their stuff and do enjoy what they do. The prices aren't bad, but shop around. They will often negotiate. I found the staff and selection at the Westheimer store better, however. read more

This has become my "go to" Guitar Center because the folks are always very helpful to this non musician. I buy stuff for my godson who plays the drums. I buy mostly online - the prices are often MUCH lower than the store - and have it delivered to this location. I bought a Pearl Demonator Double Bass Pedal for him for Christmas. It was about half the price online as it was in the store and they delivered to the store for free. If you just take the time to look online you can save some bucks. I didn't know diddly about double bass drum pedals. But when the godson and I went out to first look at them - and I was doubled over by the double bass pedal prices! - the young man in the drum section was kind enough to print out information on several that caught his eye. Plus a few that were a bit more in my price range that he thought would suit his stage in playing the drums. I wanted something that would last a while but knew he didn't really need some $1200 pedal at this time. If you are looking for gifts for musicians in your life this year for Christmas or whenever you can save some money buying at discount stores or you can get professional advice, warranties and quality products at a real music store. Plus if you look on their website you might also save a lot of money and still get all that. Musical instruments are an investment and help from folks who actually play the instruments they are selling you is priceless. read more

This is probably our favorite location now due to Scott in the percussion dept. HE WAS GREAT. We went in with my brother to fix his snare and he helped us out and took his time and did a great job. When coming here the salesman ignored me, then whem I asked for assistance he helped another person who did not want to buy anything as opposed to me who was a willing customer. Worst customer service on earth! First of all, I signed up for a 24 month no interest credit card through them. All good. Bought an awesome amp, had it break down on me. I took it back into guitar center to have it checked by an employee who told me the behavior was probably just normal from the tubes. I was just having clean channel noise at the time. Over time this got way worse to the point I knew there was a problem and the distortion channels were not holding up either. I took it back in again and the employee didn't check the amp or want to hear about the problems it had really. He did want me to call Pro Coverage until his supervisor said it would be good for him to call them. During the wait time for that he explained to me how he hated his job. Probably not entirely his fault. I get that. He told me how they are supposed to ship the amp out to the repair center for me but that they were here in town so I could just drive it by. I work 9-6 regular hours that businesses are open. I can not take off work because you sold me a product that lasted less than a month. So, he got me the number of the place to take my amp here in Houston and the name and address of the place. After that he discovered that my account said I was signed up for 6 month financing and that the employee who signed me up pressed the wrong button and signed me up for a financing plan I didn't plan on paying for and now I had to call Capital One. I called Capital One and I wasn't signed up for 6 month financing on the price of the amp thank goodness but just the price of the Pro Coverage which I would easily pay with my regular required payments. Even though I never agreed for that one purchase to be some special finance deal because I had the credit line for it. Anyhow,.. Now the repair service they got me the number for is not picking up at all even though their website is still up. I sent them e-mails and they all came back as undeliverable. So, I just called Guitar Center and let them know that I needed to get them to ship the amp for me because we already called Pro Coverage they already got me the wrong number and they said that Pro Coverage would be able to get me a shipping label. Pro Coverage should be able to give YOU a shipping label. Anyhow, you've screwed up the sale, screwed up the sale support, are unwilling to do what you can about the technical support and financial support issues. You have put 2 peoples credit on the line through bad Customer Service and then shirked off any responsibility or desire to help all of this brought to you by bad Customer Service. read more

Here is an updated review to my first review. My dad had been calling Guitar Center tech for the past 3 months for my pickup repair. I think there was probably some miscommunication between my dad and me causing me to think that there was unnecessary delay for the repair. I called John at the shop today to ask about the repair for myself. He reassured me that the wait was not any of Guitar Center's doing, but that the process with shipping parts from the manufacturer is complex and takes a long time. I went here to purchase a new ride for my drum set. The drum expert wouldn't give me and my daughter but one pair of sticks. She wanted to play on a drum set while I was checking out the cymbals. He said he could only give us one pair to share and that's all he could do. I took one and my daughter took the other one. I was fine but it was hard for her to play with one stick. When I asked about the coupon I saw online he looked it up and said it was only for cinco de mayo and it is now expired. He also didn't come and help me with any of the cymbals. What a great store and staff! I came here and bought my Seagull Mini Jumbo and do NOT regret purchasing the guitar. The Staff is very knowledgeable, have great guitars in stock, the only thing I wish is that they have more classical guitars like Westheimer. Signed up guitar lessons for me and my son. Was told that the sign up fee would include beginner's instruction book and purchases made there would include a discount because we were paying for lessons..... but at after my first lesson I'm told that I had to purchase the instruction book and when I tried to purchase product I was told that they stopped offering that to customers back in April 2015. I was told this by two different people and they were more concerned about who told me that versus trying to help me. I understand this is a rock thing and they're too cool for school but these people really have a I don't give a crap attitude. Other than the instructor anytime I want buy something no one is available even though the store is full of people. The only reason I gave them 2 stars is because our instructor Dave is awesome!
