After having knocking on my BRAND NEW engine they just put in for $6,000 (which didn't include new hosing nor gaskets, bolts) I contacted the shop through via my parents only a year of having the engine. A hose was changed but did not fix my issue. When calling to ask the owner ERIC how to deal with the refund, I recommended a possible oil change. With quick aggression he said I do not understand labor and that he has men to pay. He quickly and assertively said my truck is no longer welcomed there. As he did not void the labor warranty because the year had passed, is not my issue. but to have a OWNER use such unprofessional mannerisms that could've been sorted out much simpler. Instead I'm here to leave a true review of my experience. After the owner stated my malcontent of a review won't do his business much harm. I will be leaving reviews elsewhere. read more

After reading many great reviews I went to Gulfport Garage in hopes of establishing a relationship with a local shop. I really thought I hit it off With Eric the owner, so I I made an appointment to get a simple brake pad check, no other complaints with the car. That meant measuring the pads and inspecting the rotors but they decided to test drive the car as well. After a short while Eric came storming into the waiting area with arms swinging and said he'd just had a fight with his tech, " but you have bigger problems". I was like, what are you talking about. Prior to this I hadn't been told anything or asked permission to do any further diagnosis on my car. I rushed into the garage and to my surprise saw my car high up on the lift running while the tech had one foot on the brake and one foot on the accelerator while in gear creating an awful banging noise. I immediately yelled stop, get my car off the lift! Having been in the business many years I began to question Eric, why would you do that to my car, that puts way too much stress on engine/ transmission which I later reconfirmed with 3 different master techs who all said you just don't do that. Eric got super defensive. The more I tried to ask questions the angrier he got gesturing in a swinging motion as if to throw a punch at me. He then turned it on to me saying that I was angry because he found something wrong with my car and that he was going above and beyond to identify an issue. You don't do that on your own without asking the customer's permission . It only got worse from there. We all have our bad days but in no way is this behavior okay, right or wrong especially from a business owner. Just a horrible experience all around . read more

A good mechanic is hard to find. Gulfport Garage has been in the family for going on 50 years, and as Eric, the guy I spoke to, says, they're a part of the community, and when they go to O'Maddy's they'd rather have customers buying them drinks than throwing drinks at them. I set up an appointment, and when I got there the part was in and they were ready. I was in and out in 45 minutes, and paid almost $50 less than they estimated. I went to this garage years ago but never wrote a review, like I should have, but life was difficult then and these mechanics didn't help. The A/C in my car was blowing warm air. We paid about $900 or so and when my husband drove it back, it still was the same. We told them right away, brought it back in and they said it was something else that must have broke. So it broke on the way home from their garage? Really? I've heard a lot of stories from mechanics and contractors but this really was a first. And I'm reading all these reviews saying how honest they are? I guess they really hated us because we gave them more money and the A/C was still not cooling. If it wasn't for all the hard times we were going through, I would have filed a formal complaint. They should have stood by their work instead of taking over $1000 from us. I know we were not difficult or nasty to them and did not deserved to be taken of. I guess they run hot and cold from all these 5 star reviews. Or do they have a lot of devoted friends and family? Or do they have a lot of money from ripping people off to pay to get rid of the bad reviews? It will be a cold day in hell before I go back to this place. read more

What a great experience!!! We were driving in from New Orleans and our A/C stopped cooling. We looked at YELP and found Gulfport with 5 stars. I called and explained our situation. Eric, the owner, said he was jammed but to bring it in the next day and he would try to work us in. I came by and he was able to work me in and solved the issue in a timely manner and a very reasonable price. Above & beyond service!!! I'm from Maryland and was on vacation, camping at Fort De Soto Park for a week. On the day I had to head back home, my 2012 Ford Expedition wouldn't start. I thought I'd be stranded for at least a few days. Gulfport Garage went out of their way to find me a new Alternator and install it the same day for no extra charge, only delaying my return home by a few hours. They were very busy that day, but understood my situation and went above and beyond to keep me on schedule. The owner, Eric, explained that he had been thru a similar situation while on vacation as a child. His family vacation was ruined because the auto shop in the area would not expedite service no matter how much money they offered. So one reason he became a mechanic was to help and give piece of mind to people in similar situations. Truly a wonderful person and his shop reflects that. I have gone to the Gulfport Garage for about 20 years or more. They are honest, responsive to questions, and make every effort to explain what is wrong and what is not wrong. They will not fix something that doesn't need fixing, and if the part they put in is faulty from the manufacturer, they will change it out at no cost to you. Their prices are fair, with no gouging. They call you when your car is finished, or you can wait for it if it is not going to be long. Of course, if you like, you can do a walking tour of Gulfport while you wait, or have lunch. I've had my share of VW problems but i recently bought a 97 Jetta that had no issues whatsoever. i never wanted to have to take it to a mechanic just because for it being such an old car, and no issues?! That was a win itself. Up until a week ago, there was a noise that befuddled my boyfriend and i and he suggested that i do need to take it to be looked at. It sounded so terrible when i drove it, it sounded like i was seriously messing the motor up no matter how careful i drove. What was sure to sound like a spun rod bearing, i believe his name was Dino (correct me if i'm wrong) rode with me not even a block and said the same thing. Thankfully i only needed a new water pump, timing belt, and external belts. I sat for an hour inside and Eric was very polite, he was sure to keep up a conversation while i waited, where at other places i've been to, i've sat and been on my phone because no one speaks to you other than when taking payment or telling you what's wrong with the vehicle. I left my car that morning and picked it up after work. That sound was gone!!!! The car drove just like it did before any of the issues happened. I couldn't believe it. I was very relieved to know i didn't F*** my motor up and it was only that. I'll continue to take my Jetta here for the simple fact that they are polite, they seem caring, and now they are the only people that's ever worked on this car since i bought it.
